Description

Name: Captain Integra Blackheart
Occupation: Mercenary

Appearance: Eyes like sea-glass; made for the Ocean. Slender, and of average height, with hair the color of straw. The man is rarely seen in an outfit other than his Captain's attire. The pea coat, boots, and tricorn having almost become part of his soul, as much as the pistol and knives. Bits and baubles dangling from the tricorn, tend to jingle together along with the many knives concealed on his person, creating a metallic rasping noise unless he walks a very specific way. The man's skin is scarred in more than a few places, evidence of past knife-fights.

Personality: Cocky to a fault, prone to outbursts of violence, and unable to control himself. Such was the Pirate King he had once been. Now Blackheart was a bit quieter, more thoughtful, and his outbursts of violence eerily cold. What had once been cockiness was now simply status quo. He likes working in solitude, liquor, and having a warm place to chat. Losing that which was dearest to him caused him to renounce piracy, and while the moniker has stuck, the man makes an honest living selling his services.

Image

Equipment and Abilities: Blackheart made a Faustian bargain; the spirit lives off Integra's life force, and in turn it teaches him magic, and focuses his raw power. The spirit, Bezalel, specializes in shadow magic, but knows many others. He currently favors a .45 Caliber pistol and an array of knives and short swords. A ring of sustenance lets him sleep only two hours a night and only eat for amusement, and a personal force-field helps keep him alive. Last, but not least, was his Frigate. Top of the line, made by off-world elves that specialized in interstellar travel, the damn thing was for all intents and purposes, an extension of Blackheart's soul. Armed with twelve top of the line cannons of varying design, two were Ionic to deal with ships, another two were rail-guns made for whole-sale devastation, two magitech cannons for utility, two that simply spat out a sludge of weaponized nanites, two specialized with with chains and hooks for towing ships closer, the last two were specialized lasers. Either could be weaponized, but their true value lie in using one to induce a thermal outflow off Stars, and the second to super-cool the run-off. This process could turn stars into fuel, and helped fuel the spacecraft which otherwise ate through fuel at an alarming rate due to it's AI.

Historical Background: House Amantem. It had once served as the only House of Hunters in a thousand mile radius. The Amantem Hunters were renowned for their skills, and wildly respected. They lived in the lap of luxury. However, as the time passed House Amantem did not age well. By the era of Integra it was but a shadow of its former self. Having been split into three on his father's death; the Estate lay on the brink of ruin. Integra brought it back, through sheer determination he and his childhood friend managed to continue working as Anti-Freak specialists long enough to keep the Estate afloat. Young Integra was a freak himself, having been born to a mother who was a witch. He chose to ignore the powers for sometime, but when he fell in love with a young werewolf, he began to dabble as a way to extend an olive branch to her. It worked and they lived happily together for sometime, until she simply disappeared. Once, Integra had been able to scry her from any distance, now she was lost to him. He delved deeper and deeper into the dark magic his mother had left him; an attempt to find his lover, but never could. In desperation, he freed and made a pact with a shadowy demon named Bezalel, losing himself in his quest. Integra can't remember what he's looking for anymore, or why. He only knows that though he successfully bound the Black Hound Bezalel inside him; it is waiting for him to slip up, and he can't afford to be so weak.

Lillith turned towards blackheart. "Assuming both of us get out of here alive I will talk with you about helping your 'ressearch' depending on what you're willing to offer for it" Lillith glanced backwards when the door shut. Looks like going back wasn't an option anymore, bugger. She let the monsters growing on her finish before quickly killing them by stabbing them through the neck or with one of them just twisting the head off. She destroyed the goo once she had 3 of the monsters dead on the floor in front of her before quickly consuming them for mass. She doubled in size from this and once she was done she turned to look back to the rest of the goo piles. She then turned her attention to the other 3 though technically 5 members of the group. "I recommend that someone tries attacking that heart before it can produce any more of this goop" after saying this she conjured a small ball of fire in her hand and lobbed it up towards the ceiling to make sure there wasn't anything hiding up there. She also took her own advise and tossed another ball of fire at the heart.

Sybil shrugged as the immaterium shifted quietly looking about as the misty forest agitated. A bad sign as the machine was more sensitive than herself to warp creatures. They tried to perturb the natural framework of reality just by existing. This synthetic monosurface far more obstinate a machine. The city needed a reinforced locale given how often these umbralkind loosed horrors for minor irritations or just murder for mild amusement.

The creatures stopped their advance as she just stared impassively, "My name was written on my urn. I don't care why the humankind named us that way we serve the Living Emperor by way of our Overbeing. Not the deities of Celestialkind. We're aware of how much this place attracts demonkind from the last one built before I arrived on plane. This time I had them correctly build this layer absent natural dimensional constructs. I leave the reality unconstrained and interfaced for politeness and to not be constantly resolving discontinuities cleanly."

She pointed at the sample, "Like what happens if synthetic planespace under maintained interfaces to natural ones enters the natural in an isolated natural glass vial."

One eyebrow raises at the portal slowly bending out of reality, "Speaking of. Jinhai, just format the remaining gate and vent the natural matter at the other end. There's been a warp shift and those filthy Chaos things aren't getting in. Exponential elemental layer resistance to interface proxies, close all native ingress interfaces, and destroy and reinitialize any altered zones not the current visitors."

A one-sided response to a query she added, "I'm aware of the resulting discontinuity."

The elemental planes iteratively turned bleak and too-smooth as servitors went to work. A short squall of ticking under this reality's nature observed in ceasing its passing of contact to the plane without. Natural energies still came but there was soon a distinct impression of reuse like recycled air's metallic taste coming from the shadow plane now as natural forces were 'reused' from a common pool. The faster one drew the harder it became to draw more as the pool no longer refreshed from without.

The remaining door blinked out of existence its locale in reality replaced in whole from a set image instead. Roughly cut native threads of reality detonate the leeward portal in the sewers a bleeding gash melting the bricks for tens of meters then searing itself shut. Inside such a thing far more regulated as footsteps in the dirt were quietly replaced with the original pattern of reality in a blink of energy at a rough polygonal bounding volume writing an interface. The flickers grew smaller along their path as ever smaller perturbations were unwritten.

Her steel-colored eyes moved but a little more than her face by narrowing them, "Fine, humankind. I have things to do and there's a disturbance in the warp. I don't have access to the Imperium's weaponry designs yet so what do you even want? I don't hold parties or have brunches with guests. I have things older than you and your pup to deal with similarly inclined to pillage, destroy, and maim and a forge that is not done yet even if I can still make some things. I will translocate you and your servitors across the boundary to a suitable location when you leave."

Irral's Energy readings would likely be off the charts in a matter of seconds as his body continued to glow in Draconian Light. The Gold tainted with Purple swirled around his body in a flame, and he turned towards the incoming Aschen fleet slowly, lifting his chin to gaze upon the ships as he flapped his now proportionately sized wings, and lifted higher into the atmosphere to observe them closer. From behind the Shadow of his Helmet's view-port, Irral narrowed his eyes. These ships were weaponized, sure, but he sensed no anti-magical properties from them. At least, not enough to harm him, anyway.

Raising the point of his Lance to what he assumed would be the command ship based off his limited knowledge of Human (And otherwise) fleet tactics, he spoke. "You would be wise to turn around and leave while I do not deem you hostile." his voice boomed over the landscape, and likely, into the ears of the Aschen aboard the ship. He was using his magic to project his voice through most materials that lacked proper anti-magic insulation, or were too thin to protect against the sheer might of the sound-wave.

Below, citizens of pramia would see the sky brighten. In most places, everyone would look up to see the same thing: a great glowing dragon rising, high above where any airship has ever flown, so high that it’s size was seen in whole and began to shrink as it departed Pramia’s atmosphere. There was some semblance of silence aboard the Pride of Langara, as sound seemed to inexplicably cross the vacuum of space, four light minutes in the span of an instant, reverberating the hull of the Command Carrier.

"Update; energies detected from the creature... it appears that the primary objective is not aboard the fleeing vessel..." EVE's voice chimed in, as if though she didn't even hear Irral's ultimatum.

Montrose did, and in response her gaze narrowed, her expression darkened while her fingertips worked the fleet management interface.

"I'm going to take it out, give me something to work with, EVE." Montrose spoke up.

"Analyzing... two tactical scenarios identified that minimize casualties; as the entity intensifies it's magical energies, I have been able to study them closer, My analysis of the entity's magical composition is complete." EVE replied.

"Considering all relevant parameters, I re-advise mission abort." EVE added.

"Mission abort is unacceptable, we'll signal for reinforcements, and try to keep this thing busy for as long as we can, until additional fleet elements arrive." Montrose rebuked, while bringing her hands across the holographic fleet interface.

The atmosphere of the Command Carrier was that of trepidation, but everyone intended on committing to their duties to the end.

There was a long pause from EVE. "Advise tactical approach... re-calibrate, and activate AEGIS Field for null-magic capabilities, All ships adjust shields double front, thermal dissipation with magical dispersal properties, load-out M-7." The AI Hologram explained, while a large display of the field flickered to life before Admiral Montrose.

"Position Hastati cruisers in a capital phalanx, with frigate, and corvette escort to draw attention away from the main command vessel, the emphasis will be a swift first strike, with long range capabilities. Positioned at the rear, Athena cruisers will fire long range Ajax missiles armed with a tricobalt warhead directly behind the entity, twenty five thousand teracochrane yield."

Missile trajectories were highlighted briefly.

"Follow up with a salvo from frag cannons, while Hastati cruisers engage with long range Ajax missiles carrying High-yield antimana warheads."

"Anticipate likelihood of mission salvage, at fourty-nine percent... considering all possible variables." EVE added, as displays surrounded the Admiral.

"Do it... We'll execute the plan, and signal the fleet, I'll bank on this... thing's arrogance to keep him in the fight... fire and maneuver... keep FTL Drives hot, tactical jumps... let's keep this thing on it's toes!" Montrose called out.

EVE Simply nodded.

"Plan accepted... disseminating objectives to all units, commence diversionary tactics until fleet arrives." EVE then turned to face Montrose. "The remainder of Classis I will be on station in three millicentons, minimize casualties for this period of time, and mission success will increase to ninety four percent."

---

The Aschen fleet continued to advance, but something started to change. The Aegis cruisers moved out among the formation of Aschen ships, and began their first move.

A brilliant beam of blue light began to bounce among the four cruisers, until the entire Aschen formation was engulfed in a massive, but brief, shimmering bubble of energy. Inside the shimmering barrier, magic would mostl likely be useless, no matter the strength, or the caliber. Magic would likely simply fail to catalyze within this barrier, rendering the Aschen ships, and her crews largely immune to indirect magical attacks.

Shields on the individual ships began to flare to life, moving, contorting, and adjusting to accommodate for possible retaliation.

Armored panels aboard the Athena class cruisers retracted, exposing the nose cones of roughly a dozen Ajax type long range tactical missile systems.

The ships continued to advance, at their current speed, they would be within attack range in minutes.

Omnia remained cordial, the Aschen were moving into an attack formation and energy reading suggested they were expecting a large conflict, and likely reinforcements. It was never good to pull the tail of a tiger, especially not when she was operating at minimal capacity.

"Your vessel has been found to be in possession of Imperial Property, surrender it, and we will arrange proper compensation; Failure to comply will result in interdiction, and seizure of your vessel."

"I can assure you, proper paperwork has been put together for all property on board. I concede that some of our deceased organics indeed originated from Langara, but a bounty was put on their head, collected, and their bodies legally obtained through the correct channels. If your scanners are picking up residual energy from the artifact, I'm afraid it's been transported to Terra. Should you collect the first, I'm certain my Captain would be more than happy to surrender the second."

The AI contemplated warping to Terra, but she hadn't been called for yet, and was excited to see the Aschen in action. Her ship retreated a safe distance away from the dragon, watching it begin to glow like a Yule-tide tree. She always felt so powerless when she was disconnected from the mega-structures that housed a majority of her processing power.

She re-oriented six of the ship's twelve cannons, locking onto Irral, just in case. There was another Artilect with the Aschen, one that wasn't held back by the same constraints Omnia was. "What a brilliant battle it will be!" A swarm of nanites hovered around the frigate, forming many impromptu telescopes, each one relaying what they saw back to Omnia. The show was about to start, and she eagerly watched with her many 'eyes'.

The heads-up display in Integra's eye-patch quickly tagged everyone present. An undead which was probably a vampire due to his uncannily human appearance, an arcanist, a hitman, an elementalist, and a creature made up mostly of quintessence that took the form of a girl. Whats with Quintessence and pretending to be girls...

Integra stifled a yawn as the undead approached him, questioning about the lizard he'd left orbiting Pramia. "You know how lizardfolk are, slow. He'll be here eventually." He undid the stopper on his flask and took a long swig, enjoying the bite of alcohol as it ran down his throat.

"Can you or someone else explain what the hell is going on in this damn place?"

Blackheart knelt down, placing his amulet in the spot that the door pointed to, and spoke plainly to the elementalist. "It's a door, there are key-holes. I have one of the two keys. Get both keys, door opens. Not much else to it." Maybe he oversimplified it, but that was the gist of it.

At that moment, everyone might have felt something strange...a shift in the air, and maybe just a bit too much...static. At first, they might not be able to tell, but eventually they would be able to determine where it came from. It was from Rivian, who was now holding a katana. But there was something about him, the air around him seemed less timid and more serious, as if he had narrowed down his focus completely.

No, if anything, this was a total change in Rivian's character. It was as if something was triggered inside of him, he seemed more confident then ever.

"I see, intense combat again is it? I remember this feeling now...I remember my training. A constant. Consistant. I know what will happen here".

Rivian then looked all around the battlefield in an instant, his senses and mind heightened.

"Seven monsters in the caverns on the left, twelve on the right, all preapring to charge at us at once. Twenty more coming from behind. Odds of party survival are low if I do nothing and go straight for the center, where a much larger and tougher creature is spawning. Given level of development, high genetic variance. Wont be able to use it against itself, probably cant be absorbed either. Conclusion? If I go immediately, we all end up dead. But if I go for the sides, big thing spawns and its an unknown variable.

And then there is the heart. Probably has some defenses of its own. Hiding, in secret...there are strange colored crystals on the walls? Possible connection? Likely antibodies....antibodies? I see, so thats how I can deal it some damage. Hurt all of it. Likely will adapt, will only work for a few seconds. These creatures seem like they have high adaptability. Must work quickly. Everyone will need to work together...plan concluded!

"Blackheart, cover the back! Minsu, cover left and right! Lilith, do not go after the big thing, its probably anticipating you by now! Instead, smash those gems!"

Meanwhile, Rivian begna to enlarge his blood katana...and stuck it into the ground.

Suddenly, Rivian went a little pale as blood looked like it was flowing into the ground from the katana. Now, at first they might wonder why Rivian gave them all tall orders. Even if they were exceptional, didn't he just ask or order them to attack large amounts of unknown enemies with still unknown abilities while there was something big forming in the center and didn't say anything about attacking the heart?

BUt then, his plan probably became clear to them when the heart shook out in rage...and parts of the blackness turned red.

"If you have been down here all this time...I bet you never got infected with any of the diseases that were used on me for experimentation!"

Experimental and highly dangerous versions of polio, smallpox, anthrax, and other diseases all resided in his blood, though mostly as trace remnants or with the antibodies against them. But because of that, by putting his blood into the circulation of this dungeon now...into the heart, he was inflicting all those diseases on it at once.

It also meant that Rivian was a potential walking bio-weapon, but given that no one was infected he could probably only infect people intentionally, and hopefully would never have the desire to spread those diseases into the world.

Irral narrowed his eyes as the Aschen Ships continued their advance and began to shift formation, their anti-magic generators projecting a shield around them. Typical Humans and their toys, he thought. Not knowing that this shield was Anti-Magic, however, he did as predicted, and launched an attack at long range.

Quickly twirling the Lance in his hand, Irral drew the Magic Circle before him, and then slammed an open hand in the center of it. Arcs of brilliant, blindingly Gold light shot from the circle, heading straight for the bridge of each front-line ship the Aschen was sending his way. He would watch with confidence as the bolts of Light made their way straight for their targets at blinding speed, only to slam into the shield with all the Force of a Supernova. Due to the anti-magical properties, however, each bolt was fizzled out before it could reach each ship, no matter the force behind them.

With an annoyed grunt Irral spread his wings, and darted for the ships personally, breaking the sound barrier and heading to Mach 7 within a matter of two seconds, the shock wave from his sonic boom rumbling the earth beneath them as he headed towards the ships, Lance at the ready.

The eye flashed bright green as it was inserted into it's place in the floor. The green beam of light was sent from door to eye, the Emerald Eye Pendant refracting the light skyward. The beam of light grew in strength and brightness, comparable almost to a quasar, as it shot straight through the hole in the ceiling and made contact with Sol high above.

A hum began again from behind the door.
"SET THE SECOND"
The door spoke again, if possible even louder than before, words that could be felt in the very bones of those present.

A great emerald beam of light, the beam being only visible to Irral, stretched through space and time. It hit the Emerald Eye Pendant, which started to brilliantly glow.

A voice would permeate Irral's mind, with it a vision: The Impervious Door, with one glowing eye, the other dark, it's features seeming more lifelike than ever before.
"SET THE SECOND"
The Impervious Door called for the return of the second Emerald Eye Pendant.

Aoi watched from a bit further away from the others, well within the distance needed to reach it in only a few seconds for him, but far enough to watch from a distance with extreme interest. And more importantly, listen. Aoi made use of his exceptional hearing, and decided to listen in on everything from a distance, even going so far to take off the headphones he had specially made for him.

"Well well, this looks like it could get interesting...and the rewards are so high in potential...I wonder what I will buy this time..."

While thinking those thoughts, and watching the others as they discussed the door, the door began to speak itself...Aoi decided to specifically listen to the door now, and since it was making sounds on his own, he might be able to gather more data on it. Density, mass, possibly even material if it was unique enough.

Aoi took up a closer position, not really going out and introducing himself and not overly noticable. However, his main focus at the moment would definently be the door in front of him.

"If its really sturdy, then there definitely has to be great treasure ahead...."

Incidentally, Aoi was rather greedy and ambitous, having made a name for himself in certain circles...very few of them legal.

Lilith agreed to consider Blackheart's offer, in exchange for a presumed transfer of goods. Which was fine with him, if there was one thing he had TOO much of it was things he'd found on his journeys. Rivian grew calm, a calculating look on his face and then he started giving a plan of action.

"Blackheart, cover the back!"

Twenty of the lizard things were quickly approaching, some of them much larger than the others, and other still with multiple heads. With an ambivalent sigh, he nodded confirmation. "Wouldn't have it any other way." With a thought, the servitors assembled in two staggered lines, unleashing a salvo of gunfire that tore through the lizards.

Unfortunately the monsters seemed nonplussed about being fired upon and within moments the quickest lizards leaped into action, gnashing teeth ready to tear whatever they could. One of the servitors in the back-line brought a power sword down on the lead one's neck, just in time to prevent it from destroying one of its undead 'comrades.' For whatever reason, these lizards were much sturdier than the ones previously encountered, and nineteen of them still remained.

"Alright, new plan then." Three of the zombies dropped their weapons and charged forward, slashing at the lizards with their metallic claws and driving pitons into the larger ones. A phalanx of hard-light shields went up around the Captain, and he saluted the three servitors that were about to become non-existent. "Gentlemen, I thank you for your service. You are relieved of duty." With that, the three that were currently being torn apart exploded, creating a shockwave that would've knocked Blackheart back had it not been mostly absorbed by Hard-light.

Black goo splattered the walls and the floor, all but one of the lizards had been destroyed by the detonation. The last one, that had been too far behind to be incinerated by the blast, was the size of a moose. "At least have the decency to die with a bit of flare." It skittered across the walls, onto the roof, and dropped itself on Blackheart. At least, it would have, had he not drawn his power sword and bisected it from skull to tail.

It was a bit messy, the lizard covering him in viscera, but he had to conserve his energy for the lower levels. Femtites began to clean him, and he took a moment to observe how the party was doing.

"The keys," He explained with a bit of excitement, "are the Emerald Eye Pendants. One of them was already here, and the other...Er," Casren turned to the pirate, "Where did you find it, anyhow?"

Out of the corner of his eye, the vampire watched bemused as yet another inspected the door.

The beam of light sailed through the blackness of space towards the Aschen fleet formation, and as expected, struck like a mighty lance against the aegis field, which shimmered with dazzling hexagonal patterns that rippled outwards in every direction. Much akin to a rock hitting water.

"I have detected an impact against the AEGIS field." EVE Reported. "AEGIS Field is holding, and registering minimal fluctuation."

Montrose let out a scoff, as the highlighted icon flickered on the display. "Seems to be advancing towards us..."

Keying in a set of commands onto the fleet interface, the Admiral called out to both EVE, and her tactical crew.

"Execute the plan! Neutralize him and seize the artifact!" She ordered, and like a well oiled machine, the Aschen fleet fell into compliance.

The Athena cruisers moved first, two Ajax type missiles surged forward from their armored racks, darting forward in the blink of an eye before vanishing entirely.

An instant later, the two Ajax missiles winked in roughly a thousand feet behind Irral, as two brilliant flashes of light, then surged fourth at blinding speed, much faster than the mach seven Irral was traveling.

They detonated simultaneously behind Irral as two blinding flashes of blue light that expanded in every direction, tears subsequently formed in the very fabric of space, drawing everything around them closer with intense gravitational pull.

Irral didn't take long to register the threat of the Ajax Missiles, but by the time he did, they had already detonated. Turning to face them, he raised his Lance defensively. The Initial blast would send him further outbound towards the fleet, and the tear in Space would begin to pull him back. With a grunt, Irral's Wings stretched outwards and he launched another Salvo of Light towards the gravitational Pull-point, aiming to use it to shut it down and release him from said pull.

At the same time, however, a Draconian Portal opened beneath him, and he dropped into it as quickly as he could. He would appear on the outside perimeter of the Aegis Field, glowing with Holy Draconian Energy, keeping him alive in the Vacuum of Space. Flapping his wings once or twice to orient himself, Irral then darted forward as fast as he physically could, easily travelling to 500 times the speed of sound before he slipped through the Aegis shield, and the glow around his body instantly stopped. The Anti-Magical properties of the field took affect, and everything magical about Irral stopped, including his transformation into a human form.

With a brilliant Flash of Light, Irral's One Hundred-Forty meter tall Birth Form stretched itself out in the Vacuum of Space. It was as gloriously beautiful as it was terrifying, for junior crewman of the nearest Aegis Cruiser as Irral's Draconian body continued to lumber towards them at the same speed he had when entering the field. Broad, nigh-impenetrable outcroppings of scales covered Irral's most vital areas - his chest, head, and throat as well as additional spiked scale formations on his forward and rear legs. His tail seemed to be a massive broad-sword at the end, with a pointed end made to stab and tear apart. This Dragon was built in his entirety for combat, even his nose sported an additional horn that he could use to ram and stab with. Perhaps the only obvious weakness he had was the malleable flesh of his wings, and the softer areas within the most inner parts of his legs, and his belly. Even then, however, they were protected with tough scales.

Folding his Wings back, Irral managed to pick up more speed, and outstretched his forward claws, aiming to grab hold of the Aegis Cruiser he was currently soaring towards. His tail likewise made minute adjustments to keep him on course, and his Golden Eyes closed briefly as they adjusted to the Vacuum of space before opening again, glowing dimly as brilliant flushes of Red and Purple ran through his scales and spines, normally White or Gold. Whether the flushes of color were blood or inherent Corruption from his torment at the hands of the Shadow Dragon back on Terra only Irral and a select few close compatriots knew.

If contact was made Irral's claws on both sets of clawed feet would likely immediately sink into the hull, giving him a perfect grip to begin his physical assault. Granted, the weight of a Kaiju-Sized Dragon would make the entire ship rumble if not make a sizable chunk of the hull crack with his impact, having used his body as a kinetic attack to begin with. Once Irral secured himself to the hull, his massive wings would flare out for balance as he growled, the rumbling bass likely rattling the bones of one unprepared.

Blackheart nodded towards Casren, "Funny story actually. I picked it up as a fancy brooch from a general store. It wasn't until it started yelling at me that I realized the importance of it." Irral was taking his sweet time, and by now the Captain had gotten bored.

He found a nearby wall, sitting down with his back resting on it. He flicked the lid off his flask, having a slow drink of the whiskey within. The newcomer was nearly famous in underground circles, the HUD in his eyepatch labeled the young child as Dark Sparrow, a hired assassin. "Cheers mates! I'm sure the gecko will be here soon." Not like he's engaged with the Aschen or anything! He chuckled, enjoying his aged whiskey.

"It? You mean the pendant, or the general was yelling at you? Just curious, cause I have met a few robot generals who would fall under the it category" Aoi asked, sitting cross legged on a rock behind Blackheart. Wait, just when did he get there? Well, that was his little secret, and if asked, he probbly would not explain it. At least, not yet. But he expressed an almost innocent like curiosity.

Aoi had decided to go with this for two reasons. One, he wanted to introduce himself before the door opened. He figured if he didn't, the people around might get suspicious. Besides, he was aware two people had noticed him. Its not like he was being overly stealthy, but a normal person wouldn't have noticed so he figured these people could have some talent.

He had no interest in a suicide mission after all, at least not an unneccessary one.

He then turned towards Casren with a smile. "You seem to know a lot about this door, gramps. Have you already explored it? Anything that might give us enough shock to stop a heart from beating...or maybe, make it start beating again?"

Admittedly, Aoi knew almost nothing about the people before he arrived. He had heard rumors of Blackheart, but Casren sort of interested him. After all, he didn't hear the usual heartbeats he got from everyone else. He considered vampire, but in a multiverse as large as this one, he couldn't be certain it was not something else. Zombies, some immortals, a few gods even, or so he heard.

"Of course, oen of us could always try to pick the lock if we felt impatient...but personally, I dont feel like upsetting that thing or doing soemthing unneccessary that will probably end with all of us dead...or re-dead".
