Elise Linnet

An odd looking misfit.

0 · 446 views · located in Tauvyr Tavern

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Coloratura

Description

Image

Elise is seventeen years old and human,
Pretty pale skin with somewhat rosy cheeks,
slight dark circles under her dark eyes caused by exhaustion.
Elise has full lips of a pinkish color.
Her eyes are an odd sort, mossy green,
but her left eye is permanently dilated
from an injury, leading to one eye that is a normal green color
and the other looking black and simply having a green ring around it.
Often wearing closely fitting straight legged black denim jeans and
New Wave, Punk rock, or Glam rock band T shirt.
She wears her black hair in a quiff style
(the only difference from the photo is that she has no red stripe in her hair)

Personality

Headphones rarely leave their place on her neck, she's constantly listening to music,
like any teenager would be, though she absolutely detests modern pop,
much preferring older rock.
Elise has a history of mental illness and has been commited many times
leading to her running away from home, She is a paranoid Schizophrenic,
who has often occuring hallucinations and hears voices in her mind,
but has not broken the law or hurt anyone as a result of her disease
and tends to but rather docile and seem eccentric at first glance
one would have to converse with her for a time before they noticed
something truly wrong. Her Schitzophrenia seems to have been caused by a hereditary gene for the mental affliction,
which was only activated upon her taking an extreme dose of LSD.

Equipment

Nothing much, just an mp3 player and wallet.

History

Elise is a teenage runaway, possibly from Liverpool, UK.
(Much more will be added soon)

"Hey! I think I know that girl! …Queen Mary…Yeah." Elise didn't think that Mary would be too interested in Elise, since she was so down on her luck and jagged around on the edges, What kind of image would she present? She wasn't exactly a princess.

"Suppose I could try auditioning or something," Elise wasn't a procrastinator despite all her flaws, she held out her palm with all five fingers out in the universal sign for "Give me five minutes." And she went over to a little pay phone in the corner of Gambits, picking up the thick volume next to it and looking up Invictus Records then dialing the number.

Elise Linnet got some sort of secretary or office assistant "Is qu-- Miss Munroe in?"
Elise sounded more like a nervous teenager than usual, as she so often sounded like world weary woman.

She stood there waiting while she was presumably on hold, tapping her feet to the beat of "All The Madmen" by David Bowie, not that anyone could surmise that just by listening to her shoes rap on the bar's dingy floors.

"Alright cool it, Queen--.." She stopped short, realizing this was no time to pal around, it could be her only chance of not being homeless or selling her body, or if worse came to worse being a barrister, Eugh.

"Miss Munroe, I'm calling to inquire about an audition with your label. I am an accomplished Violinist and singer." She said both of these things with confidence having had violin training since early childhood and possessing a naturally nice Alto/Mezzo soprano voice and quite a few years of singing lessons offered freely by the mental institution she'd been in before the one she'd been transferred to and had ran away from.

"Cool it!"

Elise grimaced at the sound of yelling, her own heated words, and Phinx's reaction to the possibility of gun violence. Damn…Why did those crazy military types have to ruin her chance at possible stardom?

"Erm…Sorry, This is a public pay phone so I can't really go anywhere else. I'm Elise, You probably forgot, I was really… Erm…I'm that skinny chick? We met..." That was usually how people remembered her around Wing City, these days she couldn't afford a good meal.

Elise Linnet wasn't sure she'd be looking so good by tomorrow, as she was planning on skipping another dinner to stay in her room at Gambits or spending the night on the streets. She really didn't want to show up to an audition unwashed or more of a stick figure than she already was.

"You…You couldn't just…Squeeze me in?"

Elise Linnet chuckled almost wearily and then brightened a bit "I'll just order…Terrible pop music videos!" One could almost hear the sly smile in her voice. Elise didn't actually know any popular musicians past 1985…But she figured it wouldn't be hard to find some…Could you even order those on hotel televisions. Maybe she could search for something by that Bieber girl she'd heard so many awful things about.

"Well..But..Really thank you." Elise wasn't exactly good at receiving charity, nor did she know the appropriate response, so her tone was a bit hesitant.

Elise Linnet didn't have time to hang out as she dropped the phone when two imposing men stepped into the bar and informed its inhabitants that they were to die, lovely.

Elise made for the stairway, actually attempting to appear nonchalant, maybe they wouldn't notice her? Besides, she had no intention of fighting and just wanted to get up to her hotel room and go to sleep.

Elise Linnet strode somewhat awkwardly along the sidewalk as she would not tear her eyes away from a scrap of paper that she had jotted the address and directions on.
Elise had walked for quite a long time to get there as she hadn’t had enough money enough for the cab-fare, although she didn’t mind, as it was a nice cool summer evening and she was used to traveling long distances on foot.

She stopped a few buildings down from Mary’s complex and stared about bewildered unsure where to go next.

Elise Linnet did not actually have a number, as she had sold her cell phone a few days after arriving in Wing City to help pay for her room at Gambits Hotel but the teen did hear Phinx’s voice faintly and finally found her to be standing outside of a building that was only a half block away.

Elise began to walk quickly over and made a waving motion with the hand that was not clutching a black violin case.

Elise Linnet cocked an eyebrow and sported a wry smile “Yeah, I’ll just use some of that extra money I just have lying around and go purchase one.”
It seemed she was trying to make a good impression, as although she kept her black leather jacket, instead of wearing worn out jeans and a band t-shirt she donned a fitted dress of a dark emerald green color that’s hemline ended just before her knees and her feet were clad in black converse high-tops that looked surprisingly pristine compared to those of a ruby-red color that she usually had on. Elise had admittedly stolen the ensemble from a department store nearby, but hey what else was she going to do, show up looking shabby to an audition?

Elise Linnet followed her into the pricy apartment complex “It looks great, but I imagine your neighbors can get a bit annoying from time to time…” Elise was somewhat experienced with extremely wealthy people, having been often roomed with rich girls suffering from one eating disorder or another when committed to one of the myriad of mental health facilities she’d received treatment at and they were often quite pretentious in her opinion.

Elise Linnet smiled knowingly “Well you did say you ran a company…What do those tough guys do exactly?” She almost stopped short of herself unsure if she should be asking that kind of question, but it was out in the open now. She leaned against the elevator walls, running her hands along the hard leather Violin case that she carried in her left hand.

The elevator climbed to the floor that Phinx’s apartment was presumably located on and stalled for a time before its doors slid open.
Elise stepped out tentatively into the hall and spoke in reply to her companion wearing a sly grin “Sheesh Queen Mary, Didn’t think the music industry was that cutthroat.” She then waited to be shown into Phinx’s apartment.

Elise Linnet crossed the threshold slowly, as if she was unsure about entering such a nice apartment, and stood just inside the entryway, holding her instruments case a bit closer to herself. Her peculiar heterochromatic eyes, one being green and the other coal-black, darted about the room, taking in all the luxurious trimmings and furniture. She wasn’t sure what to say when faced with this sort of atmosphere but she managed to mumble “Guess you like reggae?”

After a moment of quiet she turned to Phinx again and held up her violin case “Can we get started…?” She asked this, wanting to get the part of her day that she had been obsessing over for a better part of the afternoon and onward.

Elise Linnet snapped the lid of her Violin case open and pulled first a water bottle that was stowed in the top pocked out, taking a drink from it and then replacing before retrieving the instrument and placing the left side of her jaw on the chin rest and drawing up the bow to its strings, it had a jack where a power cord would have gone if she’d had an amp, but other than that it looked and sounded like a normal violin and would only change if she’d had it plugged in. She began to play a rich and melancholy tune, the bow dancing across the strings while her other hand did the finger work.

When she lifted her voice to sing one would hear a warm mezzo-soprano that had a very smooth, lovely, and yet darkly lachrymose quality to it. “Gloomy is Sunday…My hours are slumberless...Dearest the shadows I live with are…Numberless. “ Her eyes closed as the lyrics flowed from her lips and she seemed to be pouring all her soul into this song. “Little white flowers will never awaken you, Not where the black coach Of sorrow has taken you…”

Her voice rang out clear and pure as a silver bell with this interesting take on a classically Polish song that had only gained international fame when covered by Billie Holiday. Elise continued letting her saddening beautiful voice drip from her lips “Angels have no thought of ever returning you…” And this line was filled with more emotion than even the the other verses of her refrain, with tinges of anger among the gloomy lyrics “Would they be angry if I thought of joining you..?” She continued in this way until finishing after about four minutes, letting the last “Gloomy Sunday…” ring out for a time.

Elise Linnet chuckled lightly and bowed with an informal air when given the one woman standing ovation. “Thanks…I guess it does...” The young musician spoke vaguely, not wanting to say the meaning for her was that her schizophrenia caused her to be surrounded by shadows as mentioned in the song, and when it spoke of joining a deceased loved one, Elise thought of her lost brother, who had died when they were young adolescents, it was easy for her to find personal meaning in songs even when she had not written them herself.

She nodded “Can do…I have a lot of my own songs written, but this one seems to showcase my Violin playing the best.”

Elise Linnet furrowed her brow “Hey Thanks, but what about The Cure, Stray Cats, The Smiths, New order..Hoy division, Siousxie and the Banshees, Bowie, Adam and the ant, They were great in the 80s! But your right about the computerized thing…” Elise felt pretty strongly when it came to music but this was probably a good thing for her future career.

“You’re not going to use that auto-tune thing on me are you…?”

Elise Linnet mumbled under her breath “Not to mention Echo and The Bunnymen…” To top off her list of musicians from the 80s that she particularly favored.

Elise fervently shook her head “You know..” And held up her violin case “I’m just not that into that sort of thing…I suppose if you make me I could…” She winced a bit, at the thought of techno.

Elise Linnet shrugged with a half-smile “Hell, I’ll sell my soul away if it means even a semblance of steady pay.”

She didn’t plan on finding a lawyer, and why should she? Anything was better than living each day with the threat of homelessness looming over your head, or even worse returning to a place comparable to an insane asylum that she had just ran off from.

Elise Linnet glanced about with a raised brow “Here...?” She sounded quite surprised but then collected herself and joked “But I’m a filthy vagrant..?”
She ran a hand through her quiff hairstyle and looked around, wondering if it really would be okay for her to stay there.

“Thanks! I’ll try not to get any filth on the upholstery!” Elise had actually bathed that morning at Gambit’s hotel but she liked to make light of her lowly situation. She shook her head “Psh…I don’t need a lawyer, Queen Mary, I’m broke, you know I’d sign anything…Are you going to try and create some sort of image for me or something?”

Elise Linnet sighed with relief “Good, I’m a terrible actress…” Elise trailed off for a moment and her eyes took on this peculiar glassy sheen while she began to stare right past Phinx, as if there were someone standing behind her.
But she shook her head quickly after a few minutes and rubbed her eyes “Heh...Sorry about that I can get a little distracted sometimes.”
Elise was then phishing around in her pocket for something but didn’t seem to have any luck and withdrew her hand after a brief time.

Elise Linnet held up both palms “Hey now, lets not talk about guns.” She laughed nervously “I assure you I’m not a serial killer.” And she wasn’t just a paranoid schizophrenic who didn’t have her medicine on her, but the worst that would happen probably would be more strange than violent.
She waved at Phinx “See ya’ later, Queen Mary.”

Elise Linnet opened the door to Gambits and stepped inside, carrying a black violin case and clear plastic water bottle that was just about completely crushed, yet still had some liquid filling it. Around her neck were shiny plastic headphones leading to an old mp3 player in the girl’s pocket, which blared a song called London Calling by The Clash.

Her short black hair was styled in a messy quiff and she smelled of violet perfume with an undertone that was reminiscent of cheap soap. The odd looking girl wore a retro style black leather jacket with a Ramones t-shirt underneath and straight legged jeans that were cuffed at the ankle and suited her spindly legs quite nicely, at the bottom her bright red Converse sneakers stood out in stark contrast to the black background of her pants.
She hopped up on a barstool and noticed her acquaintance Legion sitting in the corner that he so often was, she wondered if he ever left Gambits. Elise waved with a half-smile at him, but stayed quiet.

Elise Linnet placed her dark Violin case on the bars counter and turned in her seat to face Legion, grinning at the Ex-Demon, her worries of him being offended because of her believing that he was a delusion now dispelled, she spoke with an air of easy calm “Hey man, how’s it going?”
Leaning her elbows back on the bars counter and crossing on leg over the other, Elise looked pretty relaxed for once.
