Elloit

A Witch Hunter who has been declared Extremis Diabolus by his own best friend due to his being a half-vampire.

0 · 443 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by elloit

Description

He wears a floor length brown leather trenchcoat, beneath which are a pair of brown trousers and an off-white cotton shirt. On his head he wears a wide-brimmed, tall peaked hat- a sign of his profession, which also helps to slightly conceal his face, which is heavily scarred. His eyes are a piercing flint, and his short hair is dark brown. He wears sturdy knee-length leather boots, and his hands are similarly gloved, with hisforearms protected by metal braces. Buckled over the outside of the coat is a section of plate armour, which covers his chest and back. Dozens of religious icons hang from chains around his neck, along with a bandolier of stakes and crosses. Holstered at his waist are two pistols, along with a rapier and pouches containing various other holy items. His whole body is dotted with purity seals which tell of his deeds, accomplishments, and purity. His skin is deathly pale, however, and he burns in natural sunlight much more easily than "normal" humans...

Personality

As a Witch Hunter, he is used to being disliked and feared by a lot of people. It is no surprise, then, that he cherishes all of his friends dearly. Needless to say that when one of those friends betrayed him, it caused some emotional damage. He is no longer the happy, enthusiastic and eager person he used to be. Instead he is constantly wary, suspicious, and mistrusting. He still wishes to make friends, but the fact that he is so cagey and sceptical is a slight hindrance. He also thirsts for blood, thanks to his half-vampire nature, though he is not undying, and still needs to drink and eat normally, unlike "true" vampires. On the plus side though, he can still go out in the sun, which is an advantage over those "true" undead. He also has access to some fairly basic psychic techniques.

Equipment

Two Flintlock pistols, plus bags of blessed silver ammunition. A silver rapier, again blessed, along with numerous stakes and holy icons. A vial of holy water, the ground bones of Saint Edgar, and his most prized possession of all- one of the great Holy Hand Grenades.

History

At age 12 he was chosen to become a Witch Hunter, and consequently removed from his parents and sent to a secluded monastery, where he would be trained in the art of combatting the most foul creatures imaginable. At the age of 15 he graduated, quickly rising to prominence as someone who could learn quickly, and never let his faith falter. He served for 10 years, during the course of which he successfully caught and burned thousands of heretics, and defeated numerous Demons and oher such creatures. His distinguished record was recognised by a number of religious leaders, who all agreed on what a credit he was to organised faith. Then, 3 months later, it happened. He was attacked and bitten by a group of vampires. Though he fought back and managed to vanquish them, the damage was done. Though he had not been converted to a "true" vampire, enough of his blood had been drunk and replaced to make him a half-blood. Not knowing where to turn for this, he went to his best friend for help. Horrified that Elloit had allowed this to happen to himself, the supposed friend declared him Extremis Diabolus, an enemy of the Witch Hunters. Now he is no longer welcome amongst the only world he has ever known, and on the run from his former colleagues. Despite this turn of events, he refuses to bow to his would-be masters amongst the vampire population, instead working freelance for whoever will pay. Of course, he still takes on all manner of awful creatures because he feels it is his duty, but he is much less caring as to whether or not something is "evil", when he himself is an abomination in his own eyes.

So begins...

“ Stormed into the bar. He was in an even worse mood than before. Somehow, he had managed to teleport to an entirely different dimension, one that he had no idea how to escape from. Still, at least they had booze. Booze was always good, especially in large quantities. It helped him to take his mind off of the array of bewilderingly different people he was now surrounded by, for who knew how long? Walking quickly to the bar, he grabbed a stool and ordered himself a round of ale. ”

“ Someone was staring at him. Though he didn't even look up as he downed the drinks, he could feel their eyes boring into him. Someone really wasn't happy about his being here. By the Gods, more disgruntled people was all that he needed. At least so far in this strange place no-one seemed to have recognised the fact that he was a Witch Hunter. Enduring the burning glare, he ordered yet more drink. ”

“ Glanced round at the...whatever it was...going on on the other side of the bar. Looking around for the reactions of others, he saw Tyar. He didn't know who he was, but he knew an assassin when he saw one. He spat on the floor in disgust- striking from the shadows like a coward was not the work of the pure and honourable. ”

“ What was with all the open talk of death and killing one another in this place? It seemed that this dimension had no laws of any kind. He supposed in the long run, that that would benefit him though. Particularly when he had to get more blood. Feeling less than social, he crept over to the booth where the dead waitress lay before quietly dragging her body over to a dark corner. Although her body yet lived, her soul was gone, so she was dead. He allowed himself to quietly feed from her, hoping no-one noticed his curse. People in his homeland had been less than tolerant of him, and he didn't expect it to be any different here. ”

“ Someone was watching him. He reddened slightly, ashamed, but it was neccessary for his existence. Looking up, he saw it was a woman. He was surprised when instead of hatred and revulsion in her eyes, he saw curiosity. Dropping the body, he strode over to sit down next to her. "I take it you people don't know its rude to stare, either?" he said sarcastically by way of greeting. ”

“ Laughed at her words. He liked people with a sense of humour, especially when they didn't seem like heretics, unlike everybody else in this place. "Why am I ashamed? Why am I ashamed!? I am a Witch Hunter! I'm supposed to be an icon of purity and devotion, but instead, I am reduced to...this!" He trailed off motioning to the corpse, before murmuring "Sometimes I wonder if I should just kill myself, rather than continue this ironic existence." ”

“ The woman seemed to become suddenly agitated when he mentioned his profession. Ordinarily that would have been when he would start to make inquiries, but he no longer cared. She seemed to know what he was thinking, and her words resonated with his own conscience. "You speak as though you have talked to someone with my...affliction, before. And are you saying you know when death will come for you? Is that what troubles you? If so, then I am a qualified confessor", he chuckled, "and whilst I am trapped here, anything you say will be kept in utmost confidence..." ”

“ "Ah, the Sisterhood, eh? I have something similar back in my dimension. I do not like that business of sacrificing people, but I suppose it is not too different to what we do when we burn witches, when you think about it. Still, if you only have 228 days, what are you doing in this bar? Go outside, spend the time with friends or whatever. Just enjoy the time you have left. Who knows, the afterlife may not be so fun." He then remembered her other question "What would I do to survive? In order to survive I have betrayed friends, even killed them. I have stained the honour of my profession, even resorting to witchcraft, which is how I ended up here. I have become everything I was supposed to destroy, all because I do not want to die just yet." ”

“ Wondered if he should change the topic, he just seemed to be depressing his newfound companion. The problem was he did not know what else he could talk about. He had been on this plane less than 24 hours- what could he possibly know? Instead he resolved to apologise, speaking out with a somewhat lighter tone. "I am sorry, but I don't think this line of conversation is proving very beneficial to you emotionally. I would like to say, though, that you really don't seem too happy about your current situation, spiritually speaking. If you don't like it, then opt out- there is no reason to walk dark paths unless you choose to." That last comment stung himself like a barb. He was such a hypocrite sometimes... ”

“ "I am Elloit." he said, tipping his hat slightly. He wasn't entirely convinced by her words, but if she was going to say she didn't mind, then he would accept that. "I feel the same way as you, in some respects. I resolved to rid this world of as many hell-spawn as cross my path before the rest of the Hunters catch me. I too, seek to benefit my organisation with my death. Of course, now that I am here, I have somewhat escaped frommy fate, if only for a short while. They will doubtless find me eventually. If it is not too personal, might I ask in what way you have failed? You seem clear of any taint to my eyes." ”

“ "A friend? Sure, why not, I haven't had one of those in a while." He said, laughing, before realising how embarassed she seemed to feel about the reason for her sacrifice. "That seems a rather hefty price to pay for something that isn't your fault." He said more seriously, "Are you sure it is you that is the problem, and not the would-be father? Either way, it does not make you broken, for we are all different. Being unable to bear a child is hardly a heresy worthy of execution or sacrifice, but then again, this is not my world, so I can't really comment..." ”

“ Shied away from her touch slightly. It had been a long time since anyone had touched him outside of mortal combat, and it was a strange feeling. Though her words had clarified her situation to him, this Sisterhood was nothing like the one he had mistaken it for back in his dimension. It seemed an awfully harsh way to go, being forced to have a child, but it was their choice, he supposed. He was slightly saddened that she would have been through so much, and yet be unable to do anything to survive. It seemed so very unfair. "I understand what you are saying, and I can also see that look in your eyes. You are expecting me to reject you as a whore, are you not? Well, I can assure you that you cannot be more wrong. I do not mind what you have done in the past, the important thing is what you do now, with the time you have left. As much as I hate to suggest it, have you considered- sorcery", he practically spat the word, unable to believe what he was suggesting, "I am sure there would be some sort of spell that could help you?" ”

“ Stood up slightly upon seeing the green glow arond Nadja's hand, his hands instinctively going to the hilt of his sword and the grip of his pistol. He quickly mastered the instinctive action, releasing the weapons and sitting back down again. "Forgive me", he said with a resigned sigh, "I have not exactly been living a tolerant lifestyle for very long." He glanced around at the figure she had indicated, and upon seeing his wings, his had began to creep back to his sword hilt. He angrily stopped himself. "A friend of yours is a friend of mine." He said, by way of explanation. "It will take some time for me to adjust to this new world, I think." ”

“ "In my world, there are no Kings or Queens, who rule through conquest, there is only the Council of Churches. You could consider them representatives of each of the Gods, and they govern the land. Us Witch Hunters are their millitant arm, and though the persecution of those who partake in sorcery is part of our job, it goes much deeper. We are also tasked with fighting Daemons, the undead, and anything else that would threaten the balance of power in the world. You would most definitely not enjoy my world, and neither would your friend over there." He grimaced as she called out to the winged man, he really did not need another individual to stretch the limits of his tolerance, but such was life. The fact that Nadja seemed uneasy about him didn't help much either. "Is there anything else you wish to know?" ”

That", he said, gesturing to the corpse, "Is what I was reduced to during the line of my work. I was attacked by vampires, and though I was victorious, the bites had...changed me. I am a half blood- I eat normal food, drink normally, just like anybody else, but I require blood in order to survive. My own best friend declared me Extremis Diabolus, a traitor, when he found out what had happened. I was cornered by them so I used some of the latent Psychic abilities within the vampire genome. Unfortunately, controlling my destination was impossible, and I have ended up here." ”

"I apologise, Nadja, but I have to go, I will see you later." He said agitatedly. The three Witch Hunters had spotted him now, and were running at him. Drawing his pistol he fired, cratering the face of the first, before drawing his sword to slit the throat of the second. The third hit him in the face, but he rolled with the blow, swinging the butt of the pistol around to strike the man on the chin, knocking him over. He then sprinted out of the bar, with the third Hunter in groggy pursuit. ”

Elloit Woke with a start in the same dark corner he had passed out in. How much had he had to drink that night, and when had he drunk it? His head hurt like hell, but he knew the best cure for that- more alcohol. Shuffling over to the bar, he grabbed a stool. "Gimme something alcoholic." He managed, and the barman gave him a sideways look before complying. Sitting there he clutched his aching head and hunched over his drink.
