Eloise Crawfield

A shape-shifter who tends to be on her own

0 · 160 views · located in Lósénji

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by étoile

Description

Seventeen year-old Eloise has been disappointed by far too many people to give much of a care to others. She is independent and very capable of surviving on her own, shape-shifting into forms that are most efficient for her, though she has a few favorite forms. Occasionally, for fun, she'll disguise herself as others and manipulate their thoughts and feelings. She isn't out to get anyone in particular, in fact she is quite sweet (her cordial relationship with other animals because of her unique abilities show her gentle side) but she has a hard time trusting others, despite the fact that abandoning her family has left her feeling lonely, isolated, and while young, she is constantly depending on herself for her needs.

In her true form, Eloise has shoulder-length caramel and soft green eyes. She's almost deer-like, fragile and often running off. She doesn't carry much with her--a small bracelet a dear friend gave to her before she left her home. She often reverts to disguise when she's in trouble, or small creatures, but the fox is the animal she most resonates with.

So begins...

The trees were beautiful, but a little harsher than Eloise thought as she tumbled to the second-to last steep step onto what seemed to be a winding path. She could have just as easily shaped her arms into a pair of wings and flew about as a bird of some sort, but Eloise didn't feel the need, nor did she have the energy. She had been traveling all day, trying to get a handle of where she was now since leaving the final traces of her home's village. She was lost of course, but she felt freer than any bird, and so, was content with a simple human figure, crunching her feet down the path and catching her breath.

The sounds of the new world surrounded her, and she tried picking up some of the atmosphere--quite peaceful, harmonious, almost. She hadn't seen much wildlife just yet, but she sensed something a little more congested--perhaps a town?--approaching near, perhaps a mile or so off the base of the mountains. She continued walking, eyes and ears out for nothing in particular.

That lack of observation would prove to be Eloise's detriment, as she passed a small outcropping of moss-covered rocks and dew, green and lush in the day's sunlight. Suddenly, with a great creaking noise, one of the rocks jerked upwards, shuddering as legs formed underneath it, three-fingered hands reaching around the stone to shove it away.

Where there was once rock, there was now a tall, wiry humanoid with a single glowing light for a face, that expanded and diminished rapidly, almost imitating a quick blink. The head swiveled on a long neck that was wrapped in chords and wires, the alloy rusty and flaking from mistreatment and lack of attention. When the glowing light settled on Eloise, the machine stood fully, moved towards her. After a short burst of static, a voice from within the machine began to speak

"Salutations. This GHX model wishes to extend its sincerest greeting to you, traveller."

An unusual sound, not exactly one found in nature, threw Eloise off her step. She quickly turned and spotted the glowing machinery talking to her. She fumbled around for some sort of weapon, afraid it could be a bomb or guard of the land. She found a wooden stick--not much, but she didn't want to shape into anything that could potentially set off this...thing.

"What..." her breath escaped her when it spoke so gently. She shook her head and kept her head strong. Not exactly sure whether to say anything or not, she quietly took steps away from it, unsure when it would explode, or shoot, or whatever these things do. It seemed so out of place, here, among the foliage, but she couldn't waste time wondering. Holding up the wooden stick, she continued to take steps backwards, wary that the slope would take a steep turn.

"This unit wishes not to alarm you," the robot said, reaching an arm out, three-fingered hand spread in a gesture of halting. The glowing orb for an eye kept opening and closing, opening and closing, as if it were not under the machine's control.

"This unit would like to know where it is currently situated. Its GPS function appears to be broken, and it has sustained damage."

Eloise's initial instincts told her to run and hide, but instead her feet were planted to the soft ground. She felt exposed already, as if it had detected everything about her, and yet it didn't use it against her. It was simply...friendly.

She tried thinking this over. It certainly wasn't from her village back home--no one had any sort of equipment to build something like this--and it did not seem to demand any information from her whatsoever. In fact, it looked afraid to frighten her, something very new to Eloise.

She slowly dropped the stick, watching its "hands" reach out towards her. Hesitant at first, Eloise began to straighten up and softly touched its metallic surface, as it it had just come from someplace from outside this place's atmosphere, as if it belonged to somewhere else, but had run away, just like her.

"Hello," Eloise chirped, and cleared her throat. "What...who are you?"
