The day was largely average, Erich would say, much like any other that wasn't spent back at the mainframe. He really did enjoy these walks, the fresh-air and warm sun did one some good after being cooped up in one of those artificially light tombs. On the upside, he got to wear a rather dashing uniform, at least for a civil service. A dark blue single breasted tunic, slacks, accompanied by black oxfords, and on his head, a kepi to match his clothing. The only things that really revealed that it was a uniform was the nameplate on the left breast and a triad on his kepi, along with a cufftitle 'Reichspost'.

Funny that. A postman in a post-digital age. He was, to put it simply, a glorified technician, monitoring thousands upon thousands of transactions, interactions and communications daily. It really did get to be quite flooding, at times, and one just had to escape... at least more often than the service allowed on its sparse spare time. He was rather consumed in his thoughts when his limp caused his shoulder to collide with a passerby. The collision shifted his weight to his bum leg and he tumbled to the ground, managing to keep from hitting his face on the sidewalk. Breathing for a moment, he glanced, not really looking, to the pedestrian he had bumped into, more concerned at the moment with righting himself. He apologized as he did, however, "I am terribly sorry about that."

Erich shook his head, taking her hand whilst he tried to balance himself with the other. Rising after only a moment or two, he spoke, countering her, "I ran into you, miss, I should be the one apologizing." He released her hand as he finally righted himself, his smile lacking in place of some concern, "I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Erich broke a smile, brushing himself off as she spoke, glad that he hadn't upset anyone. Or, well, she did seem somewhat upset, but not too badly. Patting the dust out of his uniform, he shifted onto his right leg, the good one. "Oh, I'm fine. I just don't get out that much in the week." His statement probably made little sense to her, but what was said was said. It was at this that he blinked rather suddenly and offered his right hand to shake, "Ach! I'm so dense at times... forgive me, I'm Erich."

"You and me both." She admitted and shook his hand. "Heil Kampf, Erich. I'm Alke." She said happily, hoping she had that right. Out of the garage, she really didn't interact all that much with others. "I didn't ruin your uniform did I? I keep going through mine..." Dress uniform days were something of torture for her. She had pretty much given up touching her uniform that day, and did paper work until after the inspection was over. Her and every other mechanic! who made a bunch of grease monkies dress up, anyway?

"Heil Kampf." The words rolled off of his tongue almost automatically, and he gave them little thought, rather more interested with the situation at hand. "Despite the circumstances, it is a pleasure, and don't worry about this... nothing a trip to the cleaners can't fix." He smirked to himself as he glanced down to give it a look over before returning his eyes to Alke, "Despite it's flair," He was referring to the cufftitle on his right sleeve, which he raised, a golden-yellow band inlaid with the word 'Reichspost' in a dark, gothic script, "mine's really not that important, unlike yours." He had, for the most part thus far, not looked to her uniform, which he just now realized was the jet black one of the Landwächter. Such a sight initially made him recoil internally, but she seemed a nice enough sort. "You're from the base, I take it?"

"I am, but you can relax. I'm a lowly Obermann mechanic. That's all." She said cheerfully. "And let me tell you, I've never been so glad to wear black. The cleaner's can only do so much to grease." She admitted cheerfully, then smiled. "Let me buy you something to eat to make up for it. Knocking against me can't have felt good." Especially sicne he had fallen down. "Even if it wasn't my fault."

Smiling in return, he looked to her to respond, drawing his attention away from the rather narrow street. Shifting his position he spun on his heels, rather enjoying the motion as he did so. Well, such a thing is unfair to say, as he enjoyed almost all locomotive action, especially after being cooped up for only the Emperor knows how long. "Feel free, where would you prefer, Alke?" She was rather different from some of the personnel he'd run across before, rather amiable and without as much of the usual discipline.

Raising his eyebrows in response, Erich blinked as he took his seat, "Perhaps you have. Work takes it out of all of us." Placing his kepi on the table beside him, it wasn't but a few moments before a waitress came by, taking their orders. Preferring a rather basic choice, Erich opted for something resembling a ham sandwich accompanied by a glass of tea, something rather nice to drink on a warm day like this. "So you're a mechanic?" One wouldn't think it to look at her on the street, at least.

"Day in and day out." She admitted. "I know I don't look much like you'd imagine, but I love working on vehicles of all types." Her voice was light, happy. She enjoyed her work, tedious as it was at times. It made her happily. What do you do for the Reichspost?" She knew the uniform, she had been studying hard, but the organization itself...well, it was confusing.

His smile returned as he thought on just how to word it without sounding like a total loon. Rubbing his nose for a second, he started, "Well, I've always wanted to fly." He had been training to do such, yes, but that's where he picked up his sciatica. "Planes, preferably. Not ships... while I'm sure they're nice too." He chuckled, trying not too sound too wistful, "I'm sure that's something of an image, a crippled pilot."

"I can see it. I mean, it's just you leg right? I'm sure that planes don't use both feet." She said, confidently, not at all actually sure. Either way she gave him a large smile. "Couldn't the civilian sector?" She trailed off then shook ehr head. No, no Belkan would take work as a civilians over working for the emperor. Even Thistle knew that, though she still didn't understand how he could create such loyalty.

Erich pondered for a moment, thinking on it. He knew that they'd discharged him honorably from service and offered him the job in the postal service as a supplement to serve out his oath. The civilian sector, as Alke said though, was always an option. So long as he didn't drag on the system he should be safe... there was always freelancing, or even working for BARDAS. "They could. I'd love to be back in the sky some day..." Their meal arrived however, and he took on a more positive air, "But for now, let's eat!"

He agreed, though the stuff that they had back at the facility came out of a machine rather than a cafeteria, it was still pretty horrid. The egg-salad, that was the worst, and he was already greatly enjoying the change of pace, his sliced sandwich soon finding its way to his mouth. He made sure, however, to not be too rude in his consumption, being as his company was of a different sort. "I'm sorry to hear that... it's not me is it?"

"Ah, no. Just nerves. My brother is a candidate for the LW right now, and he'll be graduating soon enough. We've never been too far from each other, but...he may get assigned somewhere, and I may not be able to follow. It's a little frightening." She admitted, then snorted.

"Not that I, as an Obermann, am scared of anything at all!"

Erich nodded, chuckling at this after a bite of his meal, "I'm sure of that! But, I'm sure all will be fine." He smiled at this, looking down to make sure that none of the food had made its way onto his uniform before looking back to her, "If you don't mind my asking, why'd you join up?"

Ah, well wasn't that a question. "It's hard to be hired as a mechanic, when you aren't what they expect. And no one trusts a girl with their vehicle." She made something up quickly. "Better I live well enough using my talent for the Emperor, than barely eke out a living because I'm a pretty face."

Thistle saw him stop and winced, then picked at her food once more. "Oh? How did you end up in the service?" She asked with a grin. This could prove to be interesting. Very interesting. It would also be enlightening, and she beleived firmly in knowing your enemy...and your ally.

This was something that Erich was as confused on as others, being as it was a logical choice. "I think it was dealing with the nerves in my leg, but I don't know for sure. A whole replacement would've suited things better..." And I could still be flying. "But I still serve a purpose, and that I'm thankful for."

Alke sighed, then shook her head. "Well...I like it. I think that it's... I think it's kind of cute." She admitted, and took a bit of her sandwich, to prevent herself from saying anything else potentially embarrassing. It was though. "Besides, it just shows what you've given up for the Emperor."

Now it seemed to be Erich's turn to blush, having been treated by a good few as a hindrance to society and something of a failure, rarely was it that anyone ever looked upon it in a positive light, much less cute. "Well..." He really didn't know how to respond, but did his best with a smile, "Thank you, though I do feel outmatched in that regard." He looked down to his leg again, wishing somewhat that he could take his cane with him to work. "Well, I was awarded a wound badge."

His spirits were lifted with her efforts and he returned the smile, even though he could walk on his own some of the time, he still required his cane for the most part. "I might see if I could apply for such an operation... but then I wouldn't be quite as cute anymore." He ended it with a chuckle, returning to his meal. It was a nice change of pace, running into someone who didn't judge him based on his injury.

Alke gave him a grin. "We should meet again sometime." she suggested, pleased to have made a friend. I think you're good for me. I'm not even half so worried now." She admitted happily.

Erich took the scrap, curious to see just what it was that she'd written. It was an odd number, not in the usual form that he encountered, but he was sure that it'd work all the same. She didn't seem to be the kind to just drop someone a fake number. Agreeing with her, he swore it off that he wouldn't show a soul, "But of course. There any times when I shouldn't call?"

"Huh." He was rather surprised by her ability to pick up at any time, perhaps she had some sort of cellular phone that he'd yet to see, or was recognized differently by the internal ministry. "Well, that's their loss then." He might actually have to start getting out some more rather than retreating back to his apartment with another of the uplink's library's technical manuals.

Se gave him a grin. "I have two days off after every four days on. Typical schedule, you know?" She said happily. "What's your like? The same?" she hoped so! It meant that the had matching days off!
