"Just about, four on and three, depending on if it fell on the weekend." Grinning as well, he rather looked forward to their next encounter. Refreshing was the least of the adjectives he'd put on it, especially after dealing with all the dogmatic dictators back at work.

Thistle grinned at Erich as they walked and talked. “No, no, I swear. It was so hard not to laugh, because here he is, above me a good three ranks, and he's claiming he knows what to do. I mean, what can I do? I let him pop the hood and go down in it, and her turns the wrong screw. Oil squirts up, getting him in the face. He was so pissed, but here I am, a still as stone having to not laugh.” She told the story, a laugh in her voice. “I don't know how some of these guys get promoted.”

She smiled brightly at him, happy to just be hanging out with her new friend.

He had his cane with him this time, traversing the streetside with a great deal more ease than their first encounter, Erich laughed with the conclusion of her story. He did rather enjoy seeing her, not having had the chance to spend time, he mentally admitted, with a girl like this since before his accident. "Well, any structured body has the tendency to favor those who... well, have favors." He returned her smiling glance, and continued with his hobble, made evident only moreso by his cane.

However, unknown to either of them, as he was wanting something of an off day, was Anwärter Stahl, approaching from the opposite direction on the same sidewalk. In his dress uniform he looked as fit and trim as ever, if not constantly hungry and tired. He, least of all people, expected to bump into his sister, Obermann Alke, not but a few paces down the street, asking in surprise, "Alke?" when he first ran across her, unsure if it was her.

She started at this, then grinned. "Stahl! Stahl, this is Erich, my friend. Erich, this is my brother, that I told you about the other day." Unlike him, she had augmented her wardrobe, and was dressed in fashionable clothes for a Belkan woman. They flattered her chosen figure very well. "Erich works for the Reichspost." she said happily. "And it's rather obvious what Stahl does." She said cheerfully.

Erich offered a hand to Steel, which was taken eagerly, the two of them sharing a rather friendly handshake while Erich rested his weight on his cane. "Most pleased to meet you, Steel... if I may?" Smiling in return, it didn't take Steel long to answer, if only with a cautious glint in his eye,

"Of course. Any friend of Alke's is one of mine. A postman?" Nodding in response, Erich spoke, though Steel's sight, largely concentrating on Erich, shifted often to Thistle's rather stunning attire. She was quite a young woman, Steel was the first, regrettably, to admit. He's probably have to deal with more than one unruly party down the road.

"Yes, only a small call to serve Him, though I would give much more. You and Alke are both in the Landwächter?" He asked the question not simply to Steel but also to Thistle, with a shifting glance to her.

"You've already given more." She said stubbornly. A permanent injury was gift enough! She then smiled. "And yeah, we both are. Though I take great pleasure in teasing him about being an Anwärter." She said with a grin. She but her bottom lip. "Though I didn't know he had today off too."

Erich sighed as he smirked to Alke, tapping her leg with his cane as he did, before looking back to Steel who soon spoke, "Well, I... I'm to blame for that. I thought I might head out and see things on my own for a change. But, Erich would make good company! I didn't know that you had made a friend off base." Erich blushed at this, and avoided Steel's gaze for a moment, his spare hand making its way behind his back before he finally managed to compose himself.

Alke grinned at this. "Yep! I haven't had a chance to tell you. It's nice, because our days off occasionally line up, and he's been showing me around town." She grinned happily at him, clearly in a good mood. The it soured somewhat, despite the smile she gave Erich for the tap on her leg. "How much longer until you find out where you'll be stationed after graduation?"

Steel hung his head somewhat, sighing as he did. The situation was something that he didn't like to think about or discuss, especially with his sister, considering... well, it would be dangerous. "Well, they like to keep things quiet, especially with the enlisted men. I don't think we'll know even while we're in transit, but... they're training us in a lot of open area and urban combat. Not raiding or boarding tactics." He paused for a few moments, sighing as he contemplated, "I think... I think I'll be going on Crusade." He was rather quiet after he said that, both out of fear and excitement, and one could hear Erich audibly inhaling, wistful in his own way.

"That's a great honor, Stahl." Erich complimented him as best he could at the moment, he would've ventured farther if he knew him better.

"Given, I might just wind up on garrison duty on one of our worlds. You never know."

Steel nodded, not sure if he wanted to go to war, especially on Crusade... but there was no greater way to serve. Perhaps he would be one of the divisions sent to the rear, he was sure that would delight her, but... whether he wanted it or not, he wasn't entirely sure yet. However, buried in the smile of Erich there was hope, even so far as to say jealousy, but such a word would not suit Erich. Perhaps envy did a better job, for envious he was, but not in a personal manner, rather just his opportunity. "That we will," answered Steel, "I'm sure everything will be alright. Erich's here to keep you out of trouble while I'm gone."

Nodding at the mention of his name, Brenner smiled, "I'll do my best."

Alke grinned. "I don't think it's fair to give him such a tall task!" she declared and laughed at her twin. She then glanced to Erich and smiled. "But I'm sure he'll try." She said teasingly, and then gave Erich a shy glance. She certainly wouldn't mind him keeping her safe, but she wasn't going to say that. Besides, it would foolishness itself. He wasn't Erutin at all.

"Not fair?" He asked, grinning, "You'd think I'm a cripple or something, the way she talks." Chuckling, he allowed her her fun as she shifted, returning her look with a smile. "She'll be a handful, but not too much." He looked back to Steel as he finished, not without nudging Thistle again with his cane, and Steel smirked, knowing that the two seemed to be well off.

"I don't know if he could stand mother, though."

This caused Thistle to turn a bright red. They weren't! But he- Thistle's jaw dropped and she stepped hard on Steel's toes, annoyed. "You! Gah!" She declared and threw her arms up in the air. "I can't believe you. And no one can stand mother. She's mother." She pointed out dryly. Even Thistle was hard pressed to deal with her mother.

Steel yelped as he hopped back on one foot, still smiling despite the pain, looking to Thistle with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Of course not," he said, "she is mother after all... But, how would you two like to grab a bite? I need to get to know Erich if he'll be looking out for you." He finally set his foot back down gingerly, speaking, "I don't want him to get hurt."

Erich took her hand in his and nudged her with his shoulder as she spoke, and, smiling, he replied, "I would be delighted to, Alke. Really." He shot her a happy glance before looking to her brother, "And Steel's nice, I rather like him. He looks out for his sister." Steel replied only with a smirk, his expression speaking for him. Yeah. He likes me.

Alke smiled at the brush against her. He practically spoke their language already. Or at least, with the physical touching he did. But she had this feeling that she was being set up by these two. They were up to something already, and they had just met. That was it. when he returned, she was going to introduce him to some Belkan too. Mother would throw a fit, but it wasn't like it was permanent. And Thistle could always just declare it her rebellious phase if it didn't work out. Which it wouldn't. He was human!

"So, where to?" Steel asked, still looking rather smug, "I'm up for just about anywhere myself." Erich tucked his cane under his spare arm, thinking that the wooden shaft could be mistaken for something of a swagger stick. He thought it looked good, at least, and that's about all he had in mind with the act. Shrugging as he did, he bumped Alke with his elbow,

"I'll leave it up to her. I don't mind the meal so long as the company's good."

"Why not the sandwich shop we ate at before, Erich? Though you may have to lead, I don't quite know where in the Empire I am." She admitted sheepishly. She was in town. That much she knew. Obviously. And if she headed to where there were dark uniforms, she'd get closer to the base...but that was the limit of her sense of direction. It certainly wouldn't let them find a sandwich shop.

"And Steel? Shut up. Or I'll tell Mother you found a girl, and the more you protest, the more she'll believe me."

Alke made a face at the size of his plate. "Not enough rations for you, eh?" She teased and then smiled. "This is better than the last time we ate out even. Try not to spend every cent in your account on the food though." He might. After all, she had tasted those rations bars, and while they were certainly something, they were nothing good at all. "i don't miss ration bars. At all."

Erich chuckled as Steel shrugged, more concerned with his meal than with his sister's chiding advice. He remembered those days, you never stopped being hungry, and the stuff they gave you not only wasn't enough, it tasted like Hell. Steel spoke through a mouthful, "I don't blame you. The stuff tastes like molded shit." He then blinked a couple of times before looking both to Alke and Erich, apologizing, "... I'm sorry. I let my tongue get the better of me." Erich didn't really mind, but looked to Alke for direction. He may have been a cripple, but he was no fool.

She just wasn't one to be crossed.

Alke rolled his eyes. "I work in a garage. With mechanics. You really think they watch their tongues around me? But thanks anyway, Stahl." She said, please and poked him. "If nothing else, that place has improved your manners!" She glanced to Erich, then smiled at him.

"So, um. I have the day off for Stahl's graduation. You want to come with me?"

Steel drew his lips, shrugging again as he continued with his meal. He tried his best to act well around Thistle, being as he was the dark and was something of a mentor, and even more so around Erich. He was a Belkan, even if he was, well... Whatever. Back to the sandwich Steel went, as happy as could be while the two chittered away. Erich, at the shift of her gaze and a question, was just the opposite from his own. "I would be honored! When is it?"

Erich was rather befuddled by the whole matter, not understanding why their mother would be such an issue. His mind did wander however, and thoughts of a rather unpleasant old bat of a woman came into his head, one with a scimitar or some other vile weapon in hand, and he couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. A most fearsome foe indeed. Steel's mind was rather abuzz, however. It was a rather comical sight as his eyes shifted back and forth between both Alke and Erich, a piece of roast beef dangling out of his mouth as he did such. Waiting a moment or two after she'd switched tongues, replying in Belkan, "I... don't think it'd be much of an issue. But understandable." Glancing over to Erich, he spoke under his breath to him, "Our mother is something of a bear, you see."

"If you are sure. And it's not that Mother is a bear, so much as...she's a bit of a force of nature." She said and shuddered. "The woman does not get No told to her. Ever. She's too...charming. It's like you can't say no, because she's just ramrods over it with perfect politeness. It's hard to describe." she was so nice, she was terrifying? Bah.

So long as Redwing didn't try and make it a state event then, everything ought to be just fine.

Steel nodded begrudgingly, Thistle's characterization of her was rather accurate. That was mother. At least the part about not ever being told no. That was just a deathwish. "Well, it shows." Erich spoke, surprisingly, once she'd finished. Odd one, this Erich was, at least not like many of the others in basic.
