Personality

Gaius is usually pretty quiet, he tends to keep to himself most of the time and hates unnecessary confrontation, even though he comes from a war-like tribe. When one insults his diety, Ogrin, he goes absolutely nuts. He hates unbelievers, but if they don't bother him he won't bother them. Also, being of the Norse persuasion, he particularly enjoys singing songs of battle with his friends and drinking mead and eating meat until the sun rises. Of course the ensamble wouldn't be complete without a concubine or two.

Sexual Orientation - Bisexual

Religion - He and his tribe follows Ogrin. Ogrin is really just Odin, they just changed a couple of words to not seem like copy cats and so the others wouldn't kill them for only worshipping one god. Ogrin is a god of life, death, battle, and he is king of the universe.

Code of Conduct - 3 tenets of Ogrin

- Honor : Honor your tribe, your family, and your friends. Honor your fallen comrades by avenging their deaths.
- Courage : Do not fear anything but Ogrin himself. He shall remove all obstacles in your path.
- Respect : Respect your tribe, friends, and family, but most of all Respect your enemies.

Equipment

Gear

- Boots of Ogrin : With these boots, Gaius is faster than a cheetah, can fly like the hawk, and more agile than a monkey.
- Gauntlets of Ogrin : With these Gauntlets, Gaius is stronger than a bison, and tougher than the bark of the sacred tree.

Weapons

- Vudjin, Spear of Ogrin : Image The sacred spear that Ogrin supposedly carried when he killed the Frost Giants.
- Hunting bow, with arrows : nothing special, just a normal wooden bow with steel tipped arrows.
- Steel Battle Hammer : Small one handed hammer that he carries into battle, nothing special about it either.
- Steel dagger : dagger used for skinning animals.

History

"Let's see here.... It all started many years ago. My village Pagus Eurus had woken up like any other day, hunters like my brother and I went out to hunt to prepare for the long winter ahead, the wood cutters, and blacksmiths were aiding one and other in preparation aswell. Something didn't feel right about the day however. I told my brother, Tulvur, this but he simply told me that I was worrying about nothing. However when we had returned to the village, he was wrong.

There had been a raid. Everyone was dead. Children, men, women. All of them. Dead. All but my brother and I. However he soon killed himself. I don't blame him. But me, I cursed the names of those that did this. I called the name of Ogrin went to the altar in the center of the village and shouted his name to the heavens. I shouted until some one, or some thing answered me. The answer was not a voice, but an action. For as I shouted and cursed the name of my god Ogrin, the altar had opened, as if it were a crypt rather than an altar. Inside, were the boots, gauntlets, and spear that the founder of the village had used to drive out the demons all those years ago. I grabbed them and vowed that I would use these tools to seek vengance on those that had destroyed my village. I have had no such luck thus far..."

So begins...

Gaius Stood at his forge, hammering a nicely sized piece of steel, what it was about to become, Gaius had no idea. He would let the steel take on what ever shape it wanted to. If it wanted to be a sword, then it would become a sword, an axe, then it would be an axe, and so forth. He had taken refuge in an old abandoned stone house that looked as though it had been abandoned since the first civilization. He would sigh as he stuck the hot metal into the water trough next to the anvil and look at it. "hmm... Just a few more heat cycles and it should be a nice weapon.... I'm starting to think you want to become a sword." He spoke to the steel and stuck it back into the heat of the forge. Gaius put down his tongs and his smith hammer and walk over to a cloth and wipe his hands. As he began to wipe his hands he had heard a piercing shriek coming from the forest. "Hmm? Sounds like some one needs help." He said and went into his stone lodgings and removed his hammer and ran into the woods to see what all the fuss was about. Ofcourse, he had forgotten his gauntlets and this boots, so he was wearing some simple armbands, and some leather shoes as he ran. At any rate he would have shortly come across the woman being chased by the demon wolves. "By Ogrin's beard." He sighed and threw his hammer at one of the creature's to get their attention.

As the first wolf was struck he would run, pick up his hammer and smash the wolve's head in then run to the others and beat them away from the woman. "Begone wretched things!" he shouted as he hit them away from her with his heavy steel hammer. He could tell by their eyes that these beasts were no mere woodland animals. "By the name of Ogrin I command you to back into the depths from whence ye came!" He shouted as he hit one across the face with his hammer.

Gaius placed his hammer into a ring that hung from his belt and offered the woman a hand. "I don't think you will have to worry about them for a while. They will think twice before setting foot near my lodge." He said as he helped her to her feet. "Are you alright? Did those things harm you in anyway?" He inquired looking at her with his sparkling blue eyes. He was rather curious about her. What was a woman doing this far out in the woods? Surely she would have realized the risk that she had imposed upon herself by coming out here alone?

"No need to thank me. Here, It's going to be cold this evening, you look like you could use a warm bed and a hot meal. When morning comes, I shall point you in the right direction to the nearest village, what do you say?" He inquired with a kind smile. He didn't get very much company out here in the woods, so he took what he could get for companionship, even if it was just for a night. "Come, I'll show you to my lodge and get you some food cooked up, you look rather hungry." He said and began walking back in the direction of his little settlement.

Gaius simply looked at her and raised his brow. "Why wouldn't you be allowed into the village? Did you steal something?" he asked her and scratched his chin. As they came upon his old and ancient stone lodge he walked over to a wooden rack with a dead deer, rabbit, some birds, and a couple of foxes. "Pick what you want to eat, I'll start a fire in a few minutes." He said as he walked inside and put his hammer back onto his weapons rack and walk back outside to his forge to check on the metal that he was forging. It was a nice glowing orange color. He picked his tongs up along with his smith hammer and plucked the blade from the embers of the forge and placed it onto the anvil and began to hammer down on the metal, sending red sparks around him. "My name is Gaius Pennipes. Forgive my rudeness of returning to the forge as soon as we got here, It's a bit of an old habit." he said with a light chuckle, he also didn't want the metal to go bad by keeping it in the heat any longer than it needed to. "So, what brings you so far out here into the woods, miss...?"

stumbled into the bar. He wasn't quite sure where he was, but, it was... strange, and new to him. He had been wearing a black leather shirt with what looked like a small cape, made from feathers and an animal hide. He bore a spear, bow, and quiver on his back, and a steel hammer and dagger at his left hip. Slung over his shoulder was a ring with various animal hides and leathers tied to it along with bits of meat and animal bones. "Wh... WHat is this place?" The baffles young man inquired as he looked about the bar. He had never seen such a strange tavern. However, as soon as he saw a bottle of what he thought was mead on the counter he would calm down and head over to the counter. He set the ring of hides onto the counter and unhooked one and handed it to the bartender. "I would like to trade one of this wolf fur for three bottles of sweet mead please." He said holding out the animal fur to who ever was tending the bar. Of course... Gaius had no money, and where he was from, everyone just traded things like furs or vegetables for things they wanted. "What is this place?" he asked no one in particular as he looked around the bar at all of the various pations.

Gaius had pulled a chair up to the edge of his forge, he had made a sort of spit fixture and had put a full grown skinned and gutted deer onto the spit and slowly rotated it. Normally, Gaius would have made a fire seperate from the forge's flames, so that the juices wouldn't drip onto the coals that lay in the forg. However, tonight he was feeling a bit lazy. As the succulent meat of the deer slowly cooked he sighed and looked out into the darkness of the woods around his little home. He would look from his stone lodge, that seemed to be carved out of a single piece of stone, then back to his forge, which had all of the weapons and tools that he had made, then he would look to the tanning rack which had a hide stretched out and the fur had only been half shaved off, and finally he looked to the 'animal' rack, where he had hung the dead animals he had caught while hunting earlier in the day. "Oi... It's eerily quiet tonight." he said and prodded the deer infront of him with a fire prod. "just about done." He said and plucked a bottle of mead he had made from the side of his chair. He popped the cork off of the bottle with his teeth and spat it into the forest behind him then would begin to drink. Oh, that was good mead. A little sweet, but that was how he liked it.

To anyone withing the vicinity of Gaius's campsite, the glow of his forge would have just barely been visible through the trees. However, Gaius would always make sure that his area was secure before he went to sleep or got comfortable, and at the moment he was pretty comfortable, meaning that he had let his guard down for a bit. "Oh, goodness It has been a loooong day." he groaned as he stretched his arms above his head. He then took another swig of mead and set the bottle back down onto the ground, only to pick up the fire prod and poke the deer once again. "Only one way to see." He said and pulled his dagger from it's sheath on his belt and cut a piece of meat from the roasted deer and bite it. "Mmmm-mmmm! that's good Venison. Now I just need some spices and herbs to make it better. Eh.. I'll get some tomarrow. Gotta trade these hides anyways." he said thought aloud and cut an even larger piece out of the deer and went to eat his 'dinner'.

As the sun began it's decline into the west, Gaius, looked up to the sky and scratched his chin. "Hmm... I'd say it was about... Three... ish..." He said and walked over to a pile of coals next to his forge. He had to keep it hot at all times, once a forge cools, it's never the same. One thing about blacksmithing that he had learned the hard way. As Gaius began to shovel new coals into the forge he would occasionally glance over to his Stone Lodgings, then over to the animal rack where he had hung the carcases of the animals he had caught earlier int the day and the day before. The deer he had caught the previous day should last him a good while, he should put some salt on it so it wouldn't go bad very quick. Maybe stick it in the barrel of salt he had gotten the other day. When he looked back to his forge he saw that the glow was beginning to dim. "No, no, no!!! Oh no you don't!" he said and grabbed a small barrel of black powder and two strike stones. He would pour the black powder over major areas of the forge and use the strikestone to relight the coals. Of course it would take a while for it to spread but he had all day, nothing really better to do. Except drink.... and hunt. "Phew... that was close..." he said to no one in particular and fell onto his hindquarters as the glow of his forge had returned to it's bright orange glow. Oh, how he wished he had some help on some days.

As soon as he heard a rather strange squawking sound, followed by a thud, Gaius suddenly had the though that he wasn't alone. Just incase what ever it was that had crashed into his home was hostile, he grabbed his steel hammer and made his way around the corner of the house to around the back and saw the strangest thing.... A harpy... 'Oh by Ogrin's beard' he thought. He hadn't seen a harpy since he was a wee lad, and then the harpy was trying to kidnap him to try and do Ogrin knows what to him. As he saw that this harpy was of small stature, he put his hammer into the ring that hung at his left hip and sighed. "Had me worried for a second... I thought something scarier was coming to attack me." He chuckled aloud and looked at the harpy female.

Gaius would shake his head and kneel down beside the harpy. "If you were a monster you wouldn't be here flailing your arms and body about as if you were scared." He said and reached out to her. "You look like you hit the wall pretty hard, let me see the extent of the damage." He chuckled at the silly creature and move her, er... hands? WIngs? What ever, he would move what ever they were so he could see her nose and make sure nothing was broken. He didn't want to be held liable for any damage that the female had obtained on his property.... or did he? Eh, there was no telling with this man. "What is a silly creature such as yourself doing this far out in the woods? And without a guide no less?" he continued to chuckle, still amused by the ravings of this harpy.

Gaius chuckled as the creature stumbled over her words. "Hmm... Well it doesn't look too bad... Some bruises... and scuffs, but nothing a wet cloth can't fix. Maybe a couple of pinches of salt to sterilize that little cut." he said and lightly touched the cut on the bridge of her nose.

The Blacksmith stood from his position and walked over to a barrel of water near his forge and removed the lid. He would pluck a cloth from the rack above it and get it nice and soaked in the warm, yet clean, water then replace the lid. He walked back over to the harpy and lightly dabbed the cloth on her face to clean up the dirt and blood and such. Of course, due to her small stature and the way she was acting, Gaius had taken it upon himself to take care of her as if she werer a child. "Tell me. What is your name?" he asked her.

"I am Gaius Pennipes." He said with a light bow of his head. Once he had gotten all of the dirt off of the harpies face he would toss the rag into a nearby bucket for later washing. "Salt would help clean the wound, but if you're sure, I won't use it." he said with a light chuckle. As the female stood he threw a blanket over some dead birds that he had caught earlier in the day, so she would not freak out. Just in case. "Please, sit, you mist be rather tired and a bit confused, especially after bumping into my lodge." He chuckled and direct the Harpy's attention to a stool near his forge. "You know, I'm a bit of an adventurer myself." he chuckled. "Have you found any treasures in your travels?"

The man chuckled at her words. "Well, you should try cave diving. You never know what you might find in caves. Of course, you'd need some one to go with you, so you don't get lost." He said picking on her a bit, seeing as though earlier she had mentioned she had gotten lost in the woods.

Gaius walked over to a shelf and plucked a brown bottle with a dark liquid in it and popped the cork off of it with his teeth only to spit it onto the ground. He took a few swigs of the contents and let out a content sigh. "Now that's good mead... Nice and sweet, just like Pa used to make." he said to himself then looked to the Harpy. "Want some?" he asked and began to go for another bottle that was placed onto the shelf.

"Mead, Here, just try it. It's sweet. Make it myself. One bottle won't get you drunk. He said with a chuckle. "The Mead has a bit of an apple aftertaste. The only fruits I have are dried berries in a bowl in the lodge. I could get those for you."

Gaius walked into his lodge and came out holding a tankard. "Allow me." he said and poured the mead into the tankard for the harpy then handed it to her. "There you go, sweetie." he said kindly as he set the bottle onto the edge of the forge. Afterwards he would take a couple of more swigs from his own bottle and clear his throat. "You know... This kind of reminds me of the good old days when me, my father, and my brother used to sit in the mead hall and sing songs of the heros of old. The king, the soldiers and all the rest of the patrons of the hall joined in about two or three songs in. Once we had sung about all the heros, we would sing about our own adventures and tell stories around the fire." He began to reminiss, though he didn't mean to. "Stories of dragons, and elves, and all different kinds of creatures."

As Gaius began to remember what happened to his people he would cut his speech to a halt. "But, that's in the past now." He said and took a couple of more swigs, and just stare into the glow of the forge.

"Well... My people called it the fifth era... I don't know what these people would call it." He said with a shrug. "I'm not saying elves didn't exist where I'm from, but they certainly didn't show themselves to more than two or three humans at a time. My father said that when my brother's mother had died, he met a beautiful woman, from a land far beyond the forest. Of course, he and her had gotten into it, else I wouldn't be here. But when he begged her to stay... SHe did not. When she had given birth to me, she simply gave me to my father and left. He always told me that she was an elf woman... but I don't believe a word of it. She's probably just some gypsy, wandering around the earth somewhere, not really caring who she beds." he shrugged. He didn't like to think about his own mother like that, but it was hard not to, in his village, you mated for life. Not staying with his father was a great insult. "Anyways! Tell me Thelma, Usually harpies where I'm from are rather daft, no offense. how is it you are able to articulate?"

"Harpies where I'm from don't speak. To find one that can speak is a rare. That usually means that hey have over come their bestial nature, or they are part human, somewhere withing their body." He explained. Of course, he couldn't rule out the possibility of his mother being an elf, but he did. Seeing his mother as an elf made him wonder why she didn't stay? To hell with the rules of her own clan! No... It was better for him to think that she was some gypsy harlot. Easier for him to digest, and understand that his mother did not want him rather than she could not have him. "But, My villages time was cut short one day... While my brother and I were out hunting, there was a raid.... and a damn fast one too. I and my brother had only been gone a couple of hours and the raiders had managed to kill everyone in my village. My own brother couldn't bear the sight and gutted himself. Ever since, I have vowed revenge. My god Ogrin, granted me the tools to seek my vengance. When I find who did it, i shall tear their heart from their chest, and feed it to the Great Wolf. Skol shall feast upon the banquet of souls i shall prepare for him." He said staring into the embers of the forge, causing his own eyes to slightly glow.

"Oh I'm sure I will find vengence. But, for now, I shall simply adventure and seek fortune." He said with a chuckle and finished off the rest of his mead. "Where are you from, Madam Thelma? You don't look like you belong in the forest... more in the mountains perhaps." He said and stood from his place to stretch his arms and back, bones popping as he did so. "Oh, man that feels good." he groaned as he sat back down. He wanted to get another bottle of meade but didn't want to be rude and get drunk while he had company. That was in bad taste.

Gaius was about to begin singing an old song, however, it was cut short by his hearing some rustling in the brush near his territory. "Hmm?" he inquired as he stood up and removed his steel hammer from its holster at his left side. Of course, he knew that any sane animal of the forest wouldn't wander this close to a human settlement, so by default the intruder had to, also, be a human. "Show yourself, or prepare to defend yourself." He said sternly and cracked his neck.

"What business have you at my territory? Surely you aren't here to merely visit." He said and scratched the back of his head with his hammer. He didn't like intruders very much. "I'll call your sword flimsy if i so wish, because it is, besides, this is my territory. If you don't like it, leave." He said and went back to his forge and sat down on a stool. "Then shut your trap... and quit with the magic." he said addressing the flute and the suit disappearing. Of course, he wasn't privy to modern technology. Which was why he lived out in the woods. Everything was too advanced for his primitive brain. Science had replaced magic... however he did not understand science. "This is a no magic zone. If you want to cast your fancy spells, go some place else." He said and waved for her to go away.
