Garleunatri is a known lover of poetry, using it to express her discoveries and relay their beauty to her more aesthetically inclined peers. She prefers to spend her time in the company of animal companions. She isn't so aloof to fit in the grandiose company of modern elven society, and she certainly wasn't a muddy dwarf or ruddy human. Garleunatri was just...

The crinkle of parchment echoed through the tunnel, immediately followed by a flicker of orange light. Eventually the glow settled, illuminating some of a female form. She shifted, and the light was blocked by a rectangular shape.

"Hmmm..." The rectangle shrunk a bit, light escaping to the walls of the tunnel.

The padding of a large creature echoed through the tunnel, from the darkest end... Pad, pad, pad... The sound was that of heavy paws hitting stone and with each second it got louder. Soon, the steps were joined by a voice...
"Apple, I don't remember seeing this in the temple plans..." it came from around a slow corner.
There was no reply.
"Keep an eye out, there might be something down here- hey, is that a light?"

She snapped the scroll shut upon hearing voices, having had not noticed the sound of the movement. Who was that?

Maybe this was the right place.

Reaching her hand up to her hair, the female elf plucked the illuminated leaf from where it rested above her ear. She sheathed the scroll, holding up the leaf to see whatever was up ahead better.

"Hello?" Her voice was soft like falling acorns.

The sounds of movement stopped, to be replaced by heavy breathing... There was someone around that corner...

"No, it can't be a Gigi," he replied to someone who wasn't talking back. "Gigi's can't talk... Maybe it's one of 'them'?"
Again, there were no words spoken but the voice found the need to reply.
"Ningen? Are you sure? What's a Ningen doing here?"

The whispers ceased for a moment, then the head of a large, white, furry creature with antlers and a black button nose peered its head around to view the source of the light.

With a squeak, the female elf plastered herself against the wall of the tunnel. Great Oak of Life! What is that? Holding the leaf to her chest for a moment, she stared.

Seemed...docile enough...

Slowly, she extended the glowing leaf towards the great furry beast...thing. Simultaneously, a small chipmunk like creature scurried down her arm to settle behind the leaf.

"Can..You speak?"

The creature, easily the size of a horse (though some of that visible weight seemed to be thick, snow-coloured fur) stepped out into the tunnel; alone. Despite looking somewhat like a Deer, this creature seemed a little bulkier, with paws and claws instead of hooves.

~Why have you come to the Root Lands?~ It spoke... It used no physical words, no movement of the lips. Instead, its wisdom seemed to go directly into the elf's mind. She needn't worry though, the creature known as Apple wasn't a mind reader.

Blinking a few times, she absorbed the thoughts. Oh, wow, this truly was an interesting creature. Later, the elf would log this encounter in a note book, complete with sketches and scales. If she was lucky she would get a sample of it's fur, willingly given of course.

"Root lands? I'm studying," with her free hand she pat at the sheathed scroll, "Following a map, you see." She cocked her head to the side, and gently pushed from the wall.

"What are you?"

~It is clear that we have gone too far, then. I'm sorry, but you should turn and go back the way you came. This tunnel leads only to a dead end.~

With that said, it slowly turned around and began to pad off around the corner and into the darkness once more. The creature barely had a tail, but something akin to a stump was there (though it showed no signs of scarring or being the remains of a severed limb).

A dead end...but...That isn't what her scroll said.

With a furrow of her brow, the curious side of the elf got the best of her.

"We? Wait-" Plucking the small creature from her wrist, she placed it under her hair and cautiously followed the large creture.

"Oh, Saliseh," sang a voice from high above, not too far away. Saliseh shoved the remainder of the berries in his mouth. His cheeks puffed and his eyes glittered. The qote moved quick, scaling the branches of the bush and perching on top. He chewed and chirped, gesticulating towards Aki with excitement. There was someone, kind of like his someone, but much his size! And with wings!

Garleunatri leaned around the bush to peer at Aki, "Fascinating!" She had never, ever, ever seen a fairy before-and the elf had been alive for a long time!

Saliseh spread out his arms and jumped, floating with grace back down to Aki.

Aki saw this and looked up at the Elf with a bit of a starry-eyed expression.

"Woooow! You're really pretty! And you have big ears!"

Aki had finished her blueberries and that fact was evident by the mess all over her face. She stood up and brushed off her skirt before flying up to look at Garleunatri at eye level.

"Ehehehe~ I can be big too!"

She then changes her size to her human sized form, careful to not step on Saliseh or his stash of blueberries. She now stood at a height of 4'5" (135 cm).

"See? See? I can be big with magic!"

"Oh wow!" Garleunatri took a step back as the fairy grew before her, Saliseh climbing the elf at lightning speed. The elf giggled at the sight of the blueberries all over her face!

"Thank you!" Garleunatri gave a slight bow at the compliment, "You are also, very beautiful. It's an honor to meet you! What is your name?" Fairy magic was fascinating!

She giggled at the compliment and wiped the blueberries off her face.

"Thank you miss! My name is Aki Sugardust! I come f-"

She stopped herself before saying anything more.

"Mmm...Mommy said I shouldn't tell outsiders about us...but you seem really nice....."

"Nice to meet you Aki Sugardust!" Garleunatri's smile faltered a little when Aki was wary to tell her where she was from. But, she understood being wary of outsiders. The elf herself was wary of dwarves and humans. Dwarves always seemed to get one over on elves when it came to anything economic, and humans just couldn't be trusted.

"I come from Elwendil," Garleunatri offered, pointing a finger east, "It's a beautiful Elven city, with a big, cobblestone, circular center."

Saliseh scurried back down Garleunatri, hopping and gliding down to the blueberry bush. He began to forage, shoving berries in his mouth as he went.

"Not too many!" The elf warned her companion, leaning over to pick a couple berries and pop them in her own mouth. Delicious!

"Mmm... W-Well...I'm sure Mommy won't be too mad... I come from the village... It's hidden so humans and others can't find us...All our houses are built onto the sides of the trees or in the roots."

She spills her information since Garl was nice enough to give hers.

"I've heard of a city like that!" Garleunatri got excited, then realized they were probably talking about different places.

"This one is over on Ellaria, though. I've never been. It's an Elven city, so probably not the same place..."

Garleunatri offered a few blueberries to Aki, scooping up Saliseh from the bush and putting him in her hair.

"It sounds like a beautiful place..." Secretly, the elf wished to go there and be inspired. She loved to write poems based on her travels, and already had one brewing for this meeting. A fairy! There was plenty of lore in the great library of Elwendil regarding Fairies, but most of it was ancient journal accounts that didn't give much information, and much of it were stories that were considered historical fiction at best.

Aki shook her head at the blueberries. Three was more than enough for her.

"I could ask Mommy if you can come and visit....Would that be ok Miss?"

Garleunatri did a little dance with glee, "Oh, I'd love to!"

She spun around and looked herself up and down. Saliseh hopped from her head, jostled by the movement. Around he soared, coming to rest on the elf's outstretched hand when she finished her twirl.

"Am I...?" Too big?

She giggled and replied with, "You'll shrink to our size when you visit! It's the secondary precaution aside from being ice oh....uh....Iso...Ice-late.... Alone, and being sealed away."

Aki was struggling to remember the word isolated and gave up on it.

"Shrink?!" Garleunatri tipped her head, Saliseh mimicked the movement and perked his long ears. Size magic was something her people knew about. Primarily it was used on familiars, namely birds to grow them for means of flight travel. But, never had she heard of a complex enchantment which catered to such a need!

This was almost too cool. Garleunatri began to sing...
