So begins...
Gayle Rue's Story
Gayle Rue entered the bar, distracted. Damnit, she needed a drink. She pulled the black cloak around herself as she approached the counter, ordering a vodka cranberry, thinking about the instructions she had just been given. Attone? What the hell did that mean? She expected to be surrounded in blackness or at the very least absolutely nothing... but when she opened her eyes and the figure blathered on and on about actions and atonement... well, she wasn't expecting it. So now, here she was. Stuck. And she was pissed. She sat at the counter, draining her drink, requesting another.
Gayle Rue slid the currency across the counter, fuming to herself. Atonement. What... the... hell? She figured she would start by thanking someone. That was usually a good thing, right? She looked at Kat. "Thanks," she muttered, lowering herself into her drink.
Gayle Rue looked up to Kat, gesturing to the currency she had placed on the counter. "That should be enough... but keep them coming." She pulled more money from her pocket, setting it on the bar.

Her expression was stormy as she requested a vodka cranberry, sliding the money across the counter. She took a seat at the bar, swallowing her drink. Atonement. What the hell was that supposed to mean?

Gayle Rue pushes her way into the bar again, looking around as she moves to a stool at the counter. She sits and looks around before she rested her elbow on the surface and dropped her chin into her hand. She had no idea what she was supposed to do, and she was pitying herself at the moment.
Gayle Rue sighed to herself from her stool at the counter. Atonement. Penance. What the hell was she supposed to do? She was supposed to be gone completely, but no... she found herself here, in this place, with instructions to change her ways. Again... what the hell was she supposed to do? It wasn't like there were any stupid little old ladies she could carry across the goddamned street. She mentally cursed the being who had given her the instructions as she ordered a vodka cranberry.
Gayle Rue glances around as she sips her vodka cranberry, trying to figure out what she should do. None of these people seemed to need any help... not that she would want to help them anyway. They looked pathetic to her. Uninteresting. Just background noise for her misery. She bit her lip and sighed. What was she supposed to do? Why her?
Gayle Rue finished her drink and frowned at the fact that she did not feel its effects. She bit her lip, debating whether to ask for something stronger. Much, much stronger. She looked down at her wrist, at the silver bracelet the being had given her, its surface constantly changing as numbers moved across it. She didn't know how to read the damn thing. Oh, hell with it. She slid the empty glass away from herself and waited for the bartender, her chin in her hand, her finger tracing the wood grain in the counter.
Gayle Rue pulls a twenty dollar bill from her pocket and slaps it on the counter. "The strongest drink that this will buy... I don't want to think at all," she said, irritated at the irritation in the barmaid's voice.
Gayle Rue smiles in appreciation as she lifts the drink to her lips, swallowing it before she can even taste it. Setting the empty glass on the table, she mumbles. "Thanks." She picks up the second glass, examining it. "What do you call this?"
Gayle Rue nods, looking at the drinks lined up in front of herself. "Thank you." She waves her hand, signaling that she doesn't need anything else for the time being so that Kat wouldn't feel obligated to talk with her. She lifted the second glass to her lips, already feeling a bit of an effect from the previous glass. She looked around the room, frowning to herself before she looked down at her wrists. The wounds were still fresh, unhealed. If she had known this was what it was to be like, she would have blown her damn head off when she had the chance.

finished the second glass Kat had given her, slamming the glass onto the counter with a loud satisfied "Ahhh!" She reached forward to grasp the third, her vision a little blurry. Yes. This would work. Drunk. If she were drunk, she couldn't think... and the words that the being had said to her would go away. Maybe she would pass out eventually, and wake up to find that she was indeed truly dead as she had wished. She looked around. Now that she was acceptably buzzed, she wouldn't mind conversation... to find out what kind of hell hole had become her purgatory. None of the patrons of the bar that her eyes had fallen on looked remotely interesting... although, she couldn't really see clearly to begin with.

Gayle Rue watched Violet discreetly, biting her lip. He had stood, almost as if he had a purpose, and then suddenly stopped. She tilted her head slightly, watching to see what he did next, sipping her drink, the alcohol numbing her brain.
Gayle Rue turned her attention away from Violet back to the drink in her hand, losing interest in everything else as she swallowed the heavily intoxicating beverage. Looking down at the bracelet, she studied it. Numbers. Three sets. One counting down slowly, one set at zero and one reading negative three thousand two hundred twenty four. She frowned. She hadn't been that bad in life, had she? She hadn't killed anyone, so what was the big deal? Why couldn't she just be dead? She sighed to herself, running a finger over the numbers, pitying herself.
Gayle Rue finished the drink in her hand, the fourth... what had the barmaid called it? Devil's Spit? She laughed. Devil. How fitting. She lifted the last one, the fifth one... staring into its contents blearily. Yes, she was deliciously drunk. Didn't need to think. She looked down at her wrists. If she had been this drunk before, maybe she wouldn't have that stupid bracelet, reminding her of... something. She couldn't remember what, but she knew that was good.
Gayle Rue finishes her final drink, now officially more drunk than she had ever been in her life. Ha. Her life. The life she tried to end. She looked around the bar that had become her purgatory. Hmm... Being drunk, she didn't think the place was that bad. Of course, the patrons still didn't catch her attention. She stood from the barstool and stumbled over to an armchair near the fireplace, barely able to remain upright. Damn, that drink was amazing. She sat down heavily in the armchair, glancing around through bleary eyes.
Gayle Rue looked up drunkenly at the machine and smiled. Oh, she wished it would destroy her, but she knew that it wouldn't happen. This was purgatory. She was stuck here, like it or not, until she had either met her goal or the time had run out for the final judgment. She stretched languidly in the armchair, curling her legs underneath her, watching. Perhaps she was a bit too drunk...
Gayle Rue stirs in the armchair near the fireplace. She'd been staring into the fire, drunkenly thinking. She realized she could probably use another drink, despite her current state of inebriation, and shakily stood from her seat, weaving carefully toward the counter where she requested another vodka cranberry. She moved onto a bar stool carefully, nearly falling over the other side. She laughed at herself - the first laugh since she'd arrived at this place... wherever this place was. Folks called it Gambits. She called it purgatory.
