Just off to the side of the room, away from the more busy areas, sat a simple man. He wore a cotton shirt over a pain of faded jeans, and his shoes were nothing special. In fact, they were quite worn out. If he cared at all, he didn't show it. He was staring into his half-empty glass, wondering what he would go about doing next.

Malcolm looked up from the glass between his hands, his brown eyes watching Darien for a moment. He shuffled slightly, running a hand through his short hair. Unlike the tanned skin of his face, Malcolm's hand was pale and lacking in color.

"I suppose I could use a bit of extra money. What did you have in mind?" His voice was a bit rough around the edges, but kindly enough not to sound rude. He took another pull on his drink, whatever it might be.

He continued to watch the pair as they sat and spoke. The woman's compliments, however, fell on rather deaf ears. he'd not had a good life, and he'd always discounted such compliments merely as ploys to entice him without reason.

"New business? What would I be doing, exactly? mind you, I know how the rat-warrens around here work, so trying to drop me into something as bait ain't gonna work. You just keep that in mind." Now that they were closer, the two would realize that Malcolm wasn't in his prime, but rather just a bit past. He might have been thirty, thrity-five, but it was ahrd to tell in the poor lighting on this side of the bar.

"Maintenance? What kind of business did you open, might I ask?" He wanted to know just what he'd be doing. Having grown up in the area, with it numerous scum-holes and gang hideouts, Malcolm was expecting he'd be mopping the blood of the floor, or keeping the bones of the dead from riding up against the elevator's sides. he really didn't know what to expect.

"And whatcha mean by pleasant?" His eyes darted to Ike, but only long enough to appreciate what he saw. It might have been rude, but if he were a bit of a lecherous man, so be it.

Malcolm scoffed and took another pull of his drink. It was nearly gone, meaning he'd have to order a new one soon enough.. What the guy was saying reminded him of all the other places he'd worked at recently. Brothels, hideouts, and all the other seedy locations int he area had, at some point, hired him for some job or another. And then he'd been shot in the leg, so he couldn't get around as easy anymore.

"Why am I not surprised. What kind of ill repute? Ladies of the night, or drugs?"

He looked past Darien to the bar and inclined his head a bit to the bartender on staff. That was one hell of a job, being the bartender here in Gambit's. Now that his next drink had been ordered, he looked back at the finely dressed man before him.

"An you're not worried I might try and get a lil' somethin' extra if I work for you? Either you know me better than you've said, or you're a trustin' fool. I can't tell which. Alright, say I do come to work for ya, what am I lookin' at for pay?" At least the man was honest enough to admit what the business was, rather than lie about it, only to get someone injured later on. Malcolm rubbed the scar on his right leg, the habit having been formed long ago when the wound was still fresh.

Two thousand! Now that was something he could do. But then his joy turned to confusion.

"Whadaya mean by 'turn on the beds'? If you expect anyone to buy a night with me, I'd say you're sorely mistaken. I ain't exactly the best lookin' around." He was genuinely confused, but if this man was saying what he thought, the Malcolm was a bit taken by surprise. He'd never make a very good seller, at least, not to anyone normal, that is.

The change in the man's look did startle Malcolm, but not as much as it probably should have. He'd seen more than enough to allow him to not be afraid. I mean, there were things that would scare him, but he was a Gambit's regular, so he'd seen plenty.

"I would disagree. I'd say that they're some of the pickiest people around, since they go to specialty ones sometimes. But I suppose it don't really matter. I probably wouldn't get any buys anyways. When would you be expecting me to start?" He was beginning to seriously consider the proposal, figuring that he could use a job again. Maybe he'd earn enough to get leg surgery, or better yet, a pair of robotic legs. Now wouldn't that be something.

"We talkin' walk out now and head on over immediately, or tomorrow immediately?" His drink arrived then, just as he'd pulled the last few drop from the prior one. He figured he'd need a job soon anyways. If not, not only would he get kicked out of here again, but he'd have to start dealing with the sharks and any of the gangs who wanted him dead, for whatever reason they saw fit.

He took the business card, and promptly had to force himself not to choke on his drink. Well, there wasn't much choice after all, was there. The man's business had been opened up in the abandoned building he'd been living in for the last few weeks.

"I suspect that you meant to do that, then?" he asked, a wry smile picking up across his face. He'd known this to happen to other people, but he'd never expected it to happen to him. He was a nobody, after all.

An attractive woman of no older than twenty seven entered the bar, dressed in semi-formal attire, and proceeded to walk up to the bar's counter. She cast a glance at Kyle and the cat, assumed it was his, and then tapped away at the touchscreen, her fingernails clicking ever so slightly against the plastic. Having ordered herself a drink, she finally spoke.

"Nice cat. Is it yours?" Her voice was sultry, but she wasn't putting any effort into trying to sway the man before her. It wasn't that he wasn't attractive, she'd just not been interested in men for a long time.

"That'd probably be best, considering she's probably a stray. She's pretty, but I can't say things would work out so well is the Wing City Trappers found her wandering the streets. You've heard how they treat the strays they catch, right?" She watched him for a moment, her blue eyes simply keeping an eye on him as she waited for her drink.
