Mecha, Fighter, Ship; you name it, and Gentle Shine has more than likely piloted it. Always seems to be wearing a blue and silver flight suit, complete with an intricate helmet that veils his features.
Colonel Shine has proven to be a competent leader in the field, aside from his reported banter between squadmates- and hostile forces as well. When dealing with superiors he alternates between complete solemnity and flippancy, earning him some manner of contempt. He treats those of lesser rank with a fair amount of respect, encouraging or reprimanding them as he deems the situation warrants. He is deemed calm under pressure, and has proven able to live up to his expectations.
His actions outside of combat could be described as lax at best, taken to social drinking and an interest in women. He seems able to find his way into most social groups when he feels the interest, which has proven both helpful and detrimental to previous operations. Aside from his usually public appearances, time spent on leave remains largely unknown.

Colonel Shine has the following immediately on his person;
In addition to the standard Jumpsuit, he has on his combat belt either the I-02 Laser Pistol, or an HK UCP, depending on where his current assignment will take him. This resides on the right of his belt. He also has three combat knives, all of which are hidden in various small pouches that a discerning eye might spot. One is on his left thigh, another on his left breast, and the third, a smaller utility knife, in an internal pouch of his left arm. In heavy combat scenarios he will carry the J-09 Laser Rifle, complete with a sling to be carried on his back, or an HK G36KE, again depending on the locale of his mission.
Non-combat equipment is fairly limited, as far as what he is always carrying. These are two flasks (one reportedly mead, the other bourbon), one water canteen, and two notebooks of unknown use. All of these reside someplace on his belt, with the exception of the mead and one of the notebooks, which are kept in the leg pouches.
In addition, on long journeys, he will carry a combat pack with supplies to last him roughly a month.

Records of the so-called 'Gentle Shine', and that of his Al'Kaera Squadron is shrouded in mystery. A man enlisting in the Navy by the name of Valiren Braezan found himself climbing quickly through the ranks until, less than a year later, he was in command of his own squadron.
No civilian records of this so-called Valiren exist, and it is obviously an alias. His reluctance to part ways with his issued combat suit, even when in the presence of superior officers and likewise when on leave is suspicious, to say the least.
What little is known of Valiren outside of his military record suggests that he has no family, and few friends. Every so often our agents will notice him encountering certain recurring individuals, but conversations are always brief and uninteresting. It is speculated that Valiren is a foreign spy, however no solid evidence has been found of his searching for or obtaining records or information of any kind.
He is an unknown, and the unknown is reputedly dangerous. A close eye must be kept on him at all times.
