Capsuleer
Considering the theoretical and completely experimental nature of the Conductor system, another technology was required to provide an edge in terms of sustainability and survivability of test subjects. Without further procrsationation, the "Capsuleer" technology was introduced after the combination of Aschen and Coalition computers.

Created from a batch of clones and grown to the exact replication of the subject, cloning and successful synthesis of test subjects were created to supply the Conductor program with exact, precise subjects to provide testing and improvement to the system. When one subject would die in whatever accident occured during testing, a supercomputer rigged to a nearby sub-light frame would use an array of sensors including (but not limited to) thermal, gravimetric, electromagnetic, electronic, optical and neutronic sensors to take a "picture" of the subjects brain at the exact state before termination. Transfered through the sub-light array to a location in Yggradisil Fields, the picture will then be read by another supercomputer and then transfered through a nueral link into the unactivated clone. Following the transfer, nanomachines fifty times smaller than a single bacteria activated in specific pathways within the subject's brain reattach neural links and construct any unregistered pathways to recreate the existence of the brain to the exact moment of termination ... in another body.

Subjects are often Scatterran males exhibiting sufficient ability to interact with their environment and often pass the Counter Balance-administered RADOS Clearance Testing.

Grove would have buckled at the knees if she had been standing when that question was asked. Living through death was not an experience that Lara wished to share. Not at least the first time. It had almost destroyed her sanity. Her gaze left Kovodnik, and Lara merely looked down at the shot glass between her hands.

"No," she said with a little less fire in her spirit than Lara usually held. "Not at first. The shock of death is too much. Your memory... is still intact when you awake in the new body. But when you finally do realize, and it varies on how long it takes, it..."

Her jaw tightened, and it was apparent that Lara was having difficulties in answering the question. But she had made the bet, had she not? This was something Lara would have to see through until the end, or she'd end up paying the Oriyak by default.

"Let me ask you this, how would you react to witnessing your own death, only to wake up still alive? All the pain, all the horror, then being placed into a body that is foreign, and hard to control. During that time, all you have is your memories and your mind."

Grove sighed and closed her eyes to relieve herself of the hellish torment she had gone through. A person should never scream like the ones she had. There should have been a scar where she had been brutally shot. Nothing but smooth skin on this body. Not a scratch. Sometimes Lara would stare in the mirror, just wondering and thinking.

"Oh Hadden, it's not so bad as it seems. You get used to it really. Besides," Lara said with a forced smile, " with all the fun that I've had throughout my lives, I hardly ever think of the bad side effects. The good far outweighs all the bad, you know. Sure you don't want to try it sometime?"

The moment this Oriyak succumbed to being a Reborn was the moment that Lara would finally lay to rest. There was no way she'd ever go on living with this brute wandering around in space. Especially with all his damned questions. Lara should shoot him in the leg for asking such a fucking private question!

But for now, she behaved. For now.

Grove gave a small shrug of a slender shoulder. "Think what you want of it, but its a hell of a party. You ever take a moment to think about all those "what if" moments in your life? I do all the time, and you know what, I can actually go through them in another life if I wanted. But... sometimes the opportunity doesn't pop up. No two lives are the same. You can say that I've seen it all, done it all, been every kind of person someone could be." Lara went a bit reminiscent again but this memory or the memories were far more desirable than the last.

"You ever fall in love, Hadden? The feeling that you have when you do? It's indescribable. Imagine falling in love and experiencing it more than once, more than twice... or more than a dozen times." Lara picked up her shot and sank it down again, then cleared her burning throat. Damn, he could have at least picked a smoother drink.

"I..." Lara cleared her throat again," bet you're wondering just how many lives I've lived, huh? Well that'd be like asking a woman her age, you know. Dangerous territory there."

Grove looked back over her shoulder at the entrance of the Taiyou woman. The expression on Lara's face was one that was not pleased in the least. She then looked over to the Oriyak and sighed. Seems their time was up, and this session over and done with.

"Three. Only three," Lara said before standing up. "I think its time that I head back to the ship. Nothing but idiots stocking and repairing my baby." The woman stood there for a moment then clapped Kovodnik on the shoulder.

"Until next time, Oriyak," she said before heading out. Lara hadn't used his name for the fact that the Taiyou woman had no reason to be told by Lara. Hadden could offer it to her if he wished.

"We can talk about you more, next time," Lara called out with a wave, but never looking back before disappearing out the front door.

The soldiers that had been standing at ease outside heard shots fired and acted immediately.

"Shots fired. Shots fired! Ensure Commander Eos Paradigm is safe. Move out!" The thundering of twenty feet, heavily armored and geared along with those urban warfare rifles burst through the door, ready to shoot at the first sign of aggression. Four them rushed to Eos and looked as if they had literally tackled the unarmed woman to the floor. She understood though.

The other sixteen trained their weapons upon the soldiers who had fired in the bar, and the squad leader shouted out, "STAND DOWN OR WE WILL RESPOND WITH HOSTILITY. STAND DOWN OR BE FIRED UPON!"

Grove turned the corner while swinging a pair of keys around her finger and stopped when she saw her best friend in the whole wide planet of Terra. The woman just casually strolled up to the Oriyaks and stood there not three feet away. Grove looked to the Terrans then to the Oriyaks, and then settle squarely on Hadden.

"You know," she started out while catching the keys in her fist," killing before you have a drink can spoil your appetite for a good brew I hear. Wouldn't that just suck, Hadden." A grin was flashed to the men escorting or accompanying Hadden. She honestly didn't care what they thought of her or even if they threatened her either.

"So, what's it going to be. Are you going to come inside and have a drink with me, or kill a few innocent Terrans who just had their leader free them and then be assassinated? I smell war somewhere. It stinks, but the money in it smells oh so wonderful," the Capsuleer jeered on while expecting Hadden to leave the poor kids alone and continue on their bet.

Grove sighed and crossed her arms across her chest. "Hadden, are you really going to shoot me? I can see your hand on your pistol. That's not really fair you know. I've never once risen aggression against you," she said before sighing.

"And yes, I know all about the 'evacuation' but it takes a long ass time to get a ship up and running. Mine's not even half way finished with its repairs. Do you really want me to take a ship full of people out into space that could explode without warning? I tell you, navigating through asteroid belts is not all that smart, but its very badass."

"Though, I suppose since I am not complying with orders, you can shot me here and now. Right where I stand, Hadden. I won't do anything to stop you," Lara said to him with a soft expression. She wouldn't fight him and the woman would let him kill her, though kill was a relative term. She'd just come back a few months later in a new ship and taunt him further about how he lost the bet.

Grove was interested in this reaction. He must have needed that money badly, or else usually an Oriyak would have just shot her down dead. Hm. It made Lara grin on the inside. "Tempt you? Now why would I ever want to do that, Hadden," the Capsuleer teased with a light hearted smile. "And no, the Gallante is not worth another of my lives, but the people that I employ. Their comfort of living is my concern. I do pay them well and have their loyalty. I take care of my crew whether they think so or not. Just like your men here. Wouldn't you do anything for them," Grove questioned while walking directly up to Kovodnik and placing a hand on his shoulder. Dangerous, but the Azrik liked to push boundaries.

"Let's go have a seat and talk about this latest report on the news why don't we? There's lots of shit stirring up in the sewers and its about to flood into the streets," she said while gesturing to the bar with her free hand. "Or you know, we could stay out here in the open and stand while speaking. Its really up to you, but me? I'd rather be comfortable."

Grove gave the taller Oriyak a, 'What the hell are you lookin' at, I know I'm shorter than you, you dick' expression for a split second before the two of them headed towards the notorious bar. She squeezed in the bar and kept her hands to herself once inside yet didn't move far from Hadden's side. "So, they weren't just random civilians then? Maybe you should have said something about beforehand because everyone seems to think that they wer—" Excuse me, boss lady...

Lara wanted to facepalm when her crewmember saluted Hadden. He wasn't always the brightest of the bunch but did his job well enough. "Well, this is Ramirez, Hadden. And he's ... not too smart. Stop saluting him, you dumbass. He's an Oriyak, not an Azrican. He's not with UCON, my employer and if they see you saluting him, they will shit themselves dry."

Grove passed Hadden a look that said, "See what I am dealing with here? Can't just leave the idiots to themselves."

Grove rolled her eyes. Military. she could care less about military customs. All she cared about was political warfare and how she was going to make a fat profit off of it. Lara was just one of those people that actually hoped for war. Why not though, it made her bloody rich.

"You know, Hadden, I don't think the Coalition likes having its marines killed randomly and without proper explanation. It could cause a good bit of tension to add on between our people. We already don't like each other, and if you all keep up with this, then there's going to be a war. I can smell it. That or, Ramirez hasn't showered again. I'm thinkin' the latter statement," Lara said while giving her employee an odd look.

"Alright go ahead. What's my ships status and how long is it gonna take to get her wings back? While your answering, go get me and my friend her a bottle of ... " There was an odd pause while Grove thought, " Stovnoski that awful tasting vodka. And you," Grove said while looking up at Hadden, " sit down. You're making me feel far too short."

Grove plopped down into a seat and propped up her boots on the table without a care for manners. The woman was going to be comfortable and no one could tell her otherwise. Last time she sat like this though with the chair slightly tilted backwards, some of her crew thought it would be funny to tip her backwards. Those bastards. They'd be paying for that for a long while to come.

"Hundred and Six Terrans, and even more marines. You need some better intelligence there, Hadden. Really. Your boss is going to single handedly start this war if you don't step up and say something to him. Do you really want to see UCON hurt your people again? Also, more people like me would come too, we can't have that either. See, I run a monopoly on this planet for now and I would like it to remain that way. Driving a star ship with your brain, there's more competition for it than you think, actually ... "

Seven and a half hours. Stupid. Why did he have to go and say something like that? Now her SSOR buddies would expect her and her crew to be gone by then. Not a chance in the world. There was no way that war was going to be declared before then. Lara would find a way. She knew her ship and would "strategically" cripple her for a little while longer.

"Ramirez," Lara said, "There's dissent on Terra. Their pretty little Liberation died in an act of terrorism by the Hataf, a rather idiotic group of people out to make sure that Terra doesn't get their sovereignty. Now, SSOR is out to make sure that no one touches their ass or well, they're gonna start killing people. Simple. Because," Lara continued while looking straight at Hadden, "It's completely okay to warn other nations by killing them first, isn't that right?"

Grove leaned forward, removing her boots off the table, and slamming the chair back down on all fours before picking up the bottle of vodka. "So, people are just cattle. Tell me, Hadden. How would you react to aggression being taken out on your people just for someone to show an example out of them? That's hardly fair, and quite cruel reall—" A look was given to Ramirez which wasn't too please at him raising his voice.

"I swear to whatever deity is up there, I will shove my boot up your ass if you don't shut up, Ramirez. I'm docking your pay for six Terran months. You're lucky I didn't pick a planet with a slower yearly orbit!" Her eyes never left him while she spun the top off the alcohol.

"I'm sorry, Hadden," Lara apologized while pouring him a shot. "Sometimes my men are far too comfortable speaking what's on their mind. They get emotional like women. Just don't pay attention to him." She slid the shot over to her Oriyak friend.

Grove looked at Hadden for a long moment. Huh. Things were going to get very interesting on Terra and soon. "So ... Hm, I'd ask what the next step would be but I highly doubt you'd tell me. After all I am a blasphemer and anyone else that works with me. But enough politics. We'll just squabble back and forth until the sun goes super nova. Have you ever seen a sun explode? It's pretty awesome I have to say, honestly. Though getting out of range, that's not so fun. Actually I failed, thus my second life gone," she rambled on in order to change the subject.

"I could tell you all about my four lives sometime I think. I doubt you'd be interested to hear about any of them however," Grove said while pouring her own shot. Out of the corner of her eye, she looked at Ramirez.

"Sit down or something. You're making me nervous and I don't like the way you're looking at Hadden. You can talk bad about him when you get back to the ship, but for now, cool it."

Grove rushed into the bar after almost dying out in the streets from an explosion. Pieces of her flight suit still smoldered and ash coated her face. "It's fuckin' hell outside," she said to herself while sinking down a wall to sit on the floor. This place was neigh indestructible and a good place to hide out while the entire Wing City was being glassed.

"Alright, attention Gallante crew," she announced into her communications line, "It's time to get the ship fucking outfitted. Anti-Aircraft style. Shit just got serious."

Orbiting Terran Space was the Heimdall Class Battle Cruiser, Gallante, piloted by none other than Lara Grove. "Hailing Dawn Under Haven, this is Lara Grove Capsuleer of the Gallante UCON Arms Transporter. "Dawn Under Heaven, this is Heimdall Gallante, Civilian Carrier piloted by Lara Grove, Capsuleer. Requesting permission to dock for ship outfitting. I repeat, Gallante requesting permission to outfit carrier craft, over," Lara said while adjusting speed to nothing more than a hover, shutting off all main propulsion engines.

"To be frank, Commander. I'm looking to make my baby fly faster. Which of your engineers do I need to speak with to get it done?"

"Roger that Dawn Under Heaven," Lara said while shutting off a malfunction beacon. Her ship was going to fall apart at this rate. The Gallante had seen better days, but that last asteroid belt had done the beauty in finally. "Dawn Under Heaven, I am drifting into your proximity. I can no longer steer my shi-" Another beacon went off which was shut off through the Gallante's AI. "I'm floatin' scrap right now. Pardon me if I get a little too close. No worries though as your sensors have probably picked up that my shields and cannons are all offline. Those got punched by space rocks too," Lara rambled on through the comlink while shutting off yet another warning malfunction beacon.

While being ferried into the Dawn Under Heaven, Lara sent out a recorded message to her dearest Oriyak friend," It's Lara. I may be ... occupied for a little while to get my ship repaired. I will pay you as soon as I get back onto Terran Soil if you're around, buddy." The Capsuleer took a look around at the emptiness of the control deck. It was odd not seeing her crew here, odd to not be yelling at them. It was for the best though. This was the sole reason that Grove was made an immortal human.

"Well, alright. Here goes nothing," Lara said to herself while taking a calming breath. The ship entered the Dawn's hanger. The order for the Gallante's engines to shut down was ignored. Grove never planned to follow orders. The Comlink to the Aschen Supership was cut completely. The Gallante's slipstream engines verved into high gear.

"See you in another life, Hadden. Slipstream engaged," Lara said to no one but herself before the ship began to quantumly rip into the very fabric of space instantly. The Capsuleer reached to the back of her skull and ripped herself from the Gallante before sending in her Translight signal. There was absolutely no way that the resistance her ship was to make jumping into slipstream was going to let her, or the three Aschen superships survive.

"... eject you out of the hange-"

The Gallante jumped into slipstream. Lara prepared for her fourth death as it came.
