vii. historical
A boy born on a farm East of Rosinder, a home not found on any map, not near any significant village worth naming. His father was a soldier in the military, who fought bravely and gave his life for the name of Rosinder and the Terces family. Leaving behind a widow and three sons. The elder two brothers were different sides of a coin, but they both tended the farm, took care of their mother and youngest sibling. The boy, Arcturus, was the fastest horse rider in all the land, legend of his exploits reached as far as the Tellus, and perhaps even Terrenus. People from all over came to watch him ride, some were even foolish enough to challenge him.
Though it had been years since their father passed, the boys paid their respects to the shrine they built outside their house in the forest. It was a humble thing, crafted of wood and with caring hands. At its center was a mantle, resting upon it and surrounded by candles was their father's breastplate. Though crafted of impure mithral, it kept its mystical luster over the years and the insignia of the Terces beamed brightly about it.
The two elder brothers took up fencing and began studying in hopes of joining the academy one day, against their mother's wishes. Arcturus continued tending his horse, Star, and the others in the stable; aside from his other duties and chores. One day, during an outing, just before the leaves stained themselves the colors of autumn, he'd a chance affair. There she was, the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid his eyes on. She had dark hair and eyes, and though her skin was tanned, she had freckles around her nose and under those chocolate brown's he enjoyed staring into.
She had with her a picnic basket, and two sets of fencing gear. The boy was too awe-stricken to have thought it was beyond mere coincidence. She spoke of his elder brothers when they talked; and did they talk. Before the sun set, she challenged him to a fencing match. His hands were meant for reigns, not the hilt of a blade, but his strong feelings for her pushed him into such a thing. His loss was far less than impressive, rather an embarrassment than anything. The girl laughed and joked about him all the while they ate from their picnic setting.
When he woke, after talking himself to sleep at her side, she was gone. When he returned home to his mother, his brothers were also gone, joined the academy to become knights. He never had the chance to talk to them about her, to find out how they knew her, to wonder whether he'd ever see her again. From that moment forward, he decided to become the greatest swordsman in all the world. And when he found her, he would defeat her, for she would never again laugh at him.
She only left him with a single name- Dara.
