Harriet

Head of Staff and Manager at Gambit's Bar, stern and motherly about her patrons. Recent events have hardened her slightly, a subtle change, but a change nonetheless. She now carries a shotgun in addition to her trusty rolling pin.

Description

Harriet is a rather plump woman, with rosy cheeks and a broad smile. She is a handsome woman, but in no way beautiful. Her hair, which she normally keeps braided, falls to her mid back, and is a straw blonde color. Her eyes are bright blue, giving her a somewhat norse appearance combined with her hair. She is of medium height, and has muscled arms from the aforementioned chopping. Harriet normally wears simple dresses in whites and browns, and of course her butcher's apron.

Personality

Harriet is a jolly woman, with a good sense of humor and an entirely unfeminine aura about her. She laughs at dirty jokes that would make most women blush, not to mention making them, and is very hands on in her approach to a lot of things. She takes a no nonsense attitude around her companions, and any disputes are swiftly solved with a bashing together of heads and a scalding. Though she is only 29, she has a very motherly and disciplinary nature to her that can bring even older men and women in line, and has a similar role in the group, mothering over everyone and keeping order. She of course, defers to more experienced companions in combat situations, but domestically, she is the boss. Or ye'll be gettin' a fine dose of the rollin' pin won't y'!

Equipment

Harriet has a strong arm, after long hours of chopping up tough carcasses, and dealing with rowdy customers. She can swing a saucepan with enough force to knock you out cold, and can wield a cleaver with a similar level of skill that a soldier wields a sword. She is unused to using it in combat of course, but she has always been a fast learner. Overall, Harriet has a lot of brawn for a woman (not being sexist, but at the time...), but is unpracticed at using it beyond clubbing people with pans and rolling pins. Beyond combat skills, she can cook, and is a real gossip - giving her eavesdropping skills.

She carries her cleaver and rolling pin with her at all times.

History

Harriet's father, Kane, was a butcher, and his father was a butcher, and HIS father was a butcher - all from a long line of butchers who have owned Gaidal's Butcher's shop for countless generations. Though the building has undergone renovations, expansions, and even replacement after a nasty event resulting in the collapse of the whole complex, it has remained the Gaidal family's. As you might imagine then, when Kane's wife died without bearing him a son to continue the legacy, he was rather distraught. Though he had a healthy six year old daughter, he had nobody who he could leave the shop to! He had to find a new wife, and have a son! Unfortunately for Kane, by this point he was a somewhat decrepit old man, and rather undesirable. As a result, he resorted to leaving the shop to his daughter, who much to his delight took to it like a duck to water. Harriet gathered quite a reputation within the first week of taking over the shop, beating several groups of cocky youths who thought to take advantage of her supposed feminine frailty to con her out of money, out of her shop with a rolling pin.

More recently, due to the recession the ancient store has been put out of business, but Harriet was not out of work for long, her reputation as being excellent at keeping order even in the direst of situations got her a job at Gambit's Bar, though even she can't really hope to control what goes on there, she can certainly cow a good number of patrons.

Several months ago, however, she was unable to prevent the demise of a young boy at the hands of a bounty hunter whilst she was working, and has since been suffering from a lot of guilt, despite being repeatedly assured there was nothing she could have done. She is determined to bring the killer to their knees, and is working with the Wing City police department to help in doing so.

Before Motoko sold the bar, Harriet was Head of Staff and manager, and her position transferred over with the sale.

So begins...

Harriet pushed open the door of the bar, and entered. The butcher's daughter cast a wary eye over the occupants of the bar, knowing full well what kind of riotous behaviour went on in such taverns. That she was often part of such behaviour was irrelevant. The door swinging shut behind her, she made her way to the front of the bar, where there was no tender to be found "Oi! Where in blazes is the blummin' barkeep?" she asked loudly.

Harriet turned to see the large and muscular man on the floor, "What's the matter with you then?" she asked, walking over and crouching down next to him "Now don't be foolin' around with all that nonsense of shame, ain't no reason to be ashamed of bein' defeated." she said, patting him on the arm "Now pull ye'self together, you're a strong one, I can tell."

Harriet laughed out loud "That's the spirit, I like ye' because ye' have a sense o' humour. Insecurities or nay, a good one o' them is thin on the ground these days. Most people resort to takin' the piss outta me accent, and seem confused when I tell ye' to get new material."

Harriet strode into the bar, her woolen dress swinging around her ankles, and her braided blonde hair bouncing slightly as she walked. The plump woman made her way to the bar counter, slamming her hand down on it and grinning "A'right! I be on duty now, so I'm layin' down some rules 'afore I have to throw your raucous behinds outta here. No fightin', beatin', rapin', stealin' or breakin' anythin'! Else ye'll be gettin' a dose o' the back o' me 'and!"

Harriet glanced up from the glasses at Nea, sniffing "Hussy." she muttered under her breath. In her opinion, such revealing outfits were entirely indecent, and any who wore them needed a smack.

Harriet began to hum an old drinking song, tapping her foot along to it as she kept an eye on Nea, not wanting another murder to explain. The police really didn't seem to get that it just sort of ....happened in the bar. Nobody usually noticed.
