Helena has no trouble voicing her opinion, and often gets in trouble doing so. Since birth she has been strong-minded and observant. She sees no point in being docile or a coward as she finds women like that are unimpressive, and has become a social pariah because of her opinions. Although she has no friends besides her aunt and mother, she cherishes loyalty, and given the chance she would do anything for a friend. Helena is constantly frustrated by her dull village's ignorance to the happenings around them and by her father's imprisonment. She would give anything to get away and go on an adventure.
While Helena is not trained to fight, she is not incompetent with herbs and plants, knowing many remedies from her aunt. While she has no powers that she knows of, she has always been drawn to the four elements, and is silently ashamed that she truly seems ordinary.
Once, before the tyranny, Helena's family had been important, rich, and noble. But once Kril came into power, her father and her uncles were imprisoned, losing all their riches. Helena and her mother immediately escaped to her Aunt Winona's home. Her mother's sister accepted them, and since then has taught Helena about what used to be and all she knows about herbs.
