Heywood Raincaller

Pokemon have much to teach us, if us Humans would quit barking orders and listen to them.

0 · 1,420 views · located in Mossdeep City

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by LawOfTheLand

Groups

Team Liberte is a group of likeminded and former Trainers who feel that adhering to ancient tenants of Pokemon and Human relations should be restored to their former glory, where Pokemon and Humans are equal.
The Ruulan Voyagers are a highly specialized branch of the UPL dedicated to serving their champions and nation far away from their homeworld.

Description

Heywood is a fairly meek individual that's older than he seems. He was born after the invention of the capsule system known as Poké Balls, but his traditional upbringing from parents that did remember that time led him to respect the ways of those that lived off the land, remembering various tips and tricks about how to get along in the wilderness. As a card-carrying Liberte member, Heywood firmly believes that Pokémon and Humans should be equal in all respects under the law, and anything that gets in the way of that equality should be shunned, whether it's the League's insistence on gadgetry, Chain's preoccupation with slavery, or the Revolution deciding to segregate themselves. That being said, a Poké Ball is mighty handy.

As knowledge of the old ways is one of the few reasons for his continued freedom, he seeks out younger folk to preserve his legacy of living free and wild. Sometimes he has to do some regrettable things to maintain that independence, which draws dark-types to him like a Volcarona to a flame.

Heywood Raincaller limped towards the tall, alien figure, his cane intricately carved with depictions of stampeding Bouffalant as natives drove them over a cliff. "Why, hello there. Aren't you all dressed up with nowhere to go, eh sonny?"

"Heh," he forced. "Well then, I could use a strong young man like you to look after me in my old age. Maybe I could even teach you the old ways, so that they do not die with me." The Growlithe at his side thought differently about the stranger, and began to bark ceaselessly. "What is it, boy? Uh-huh...uh-huh...a Pokémon, you say? My, my..."

"With...humans?" The old man seemed quite puzzled by this, but a moment's thought led him to the answer. "Ah, so you are a Pokémon, then? My partner here has a very good sense of smell. I'm sorry that you were treated so harshly, but there is good news--you're not the only one that suffers."

He took a breath in. "I take in Pokémon that have been abandoned by their former partners. Would you be interested in accompanying me?"

Heywood Raincaller staggered back. "So...so the rumors are true. Mewtwo is real...oh...oh my." More barking from the Growlithe as the old man clutched at his chest with his free hand, the magnitude of the revelation taking its toll on his aged heart. "Argh. Charcoal...help me...help...me...the pain..." It was all he could do to use his cane to stand, and within a few seconds he couldn't even manage that as he gasped for air.

The Growlithe nipped at the man's shirt collar, trying to get him to breathe easier by removing the shirt. It wasn't helping. "No...gah...leave me be...help..." The panting grew harder and even his speech started slurring. "Nyaho...Great Shprit..."

Heywood Raincaller couldn't hold on any longer and passed out, after which his Growlithe barked at him some more.

Heywood Raincaller leaned back in his worn armchair and lit up the peace pipe. "Hm. For all the history here, none are willing to learn the old ways. I may not die alone, but I do not wish for the traditions to die with me," he lamented as he reached down to pet his Growlithe, who barked happily at the affection.

Heywood Raincaller furrowed his already wrinkled brow and took a hit from his pipe before breathing the smoke, as if he was blowing it into the tower. "Calm yourself. The spirits of the dead feed on the emotions of the living, nothing more, nothing less. Deny them their meal and they will avoid you. It's really that simple. That being said, we should probably do something about the abducted young lady before something horrible happens to her."

Growlithe barked and sharpened its gaze, ready to fight. No righteousness about saving the girl. No anxiety about entering forbidden territory. It seemed that Heywood's jimmies remained quite unrustled by this entire state of faffairs.

Heywood Raincaller said nothing in return, but merely puffed again on his pipe-weed. Growlithe, for his part, barked at the spectral assembly, its unique form of Poke Speak. -We mean you no harm. One of our friends was taken into this tower. I seek nothing more than her safe return.-

Heywood Raincaller braced against the ground and his cane and seemed fine. Growlithe was not so lucky, being blown back against the interior wall like a challenger to the Mistralton Gym. Heywood was trying to use the old ways to ward off the malevolent spirits, but the power of the Cleanse Tag didn't seem to be doing much even after hanging it around his canine partner's stubby neck.

"We don't have time to argue! We must have the girl back--it is not yet her time. I beseech you, release her in the name of the Great Spirit or we will have to resort to more brutish measures." He originally had a ritual in mind, but the presence of a very pissed off Haxorus made the more immediate solution the obvious choice. Hopefully this stranger would be welcome in the dragon's mind and heart, as Growlithe continued to argue. -Hey, Haxorus! My friend Heywood says that we might have to fight our way through these guys. You've got the brawn, he's got the brains, and together we can win this!-

Haxorus looked up as someone called her name, just sort of seeming to gain focus again and turn to Heywood's growlithe. It grunted a simple "...Okay." for a response, apparently not much for words.

Meanwhile, the spirits went quiet again. "Dusknoir lurks further up. Beware, you will not be safe here." a single voice from an unknown location echoed. With that, many of the ghost pokemon simply vanished, sliding into walls and evaporating into thin air seemingly. Where they went was anyone's guess.

Kumatora blinked and looked around the now empty room. "...Okay, this is fairly ominous..." she simply stated, crossing her arms. "...Well, might as well head forward, then... we aren't gonna save Valorie by staying here."

Heywood Raincaller nodded somberly, almost as if he knew what the Pokémon were saying. At the very least, the gist thereof. "By their own admission, it is not safe here. As for the challenges that lie before us, they remain as immaterial as the residents of this tower...I wasn't able to catch that part," he admitted with a sigh.

"Let us go and end this foolishness before things are done that cannot be undone."

Another loud crash echoed from above, followed by the roar of an unknown pokemon. The voices of ghosts started to get louder. Soon it would be hard to hear anyone else talking, as the whispers of ghost pokemon drowned out most noise. It seemed something was going on higher up, though making out what the ghosts were saying was impossible. Abruptly the golurk in the center of the room seemed to come to life, and without a word it's feet erupted in jet fire and it rapidly soared further up into the tower, as if it had been summoned by something. How strange.

Heywood Raincaller was hurrying up the stairs, but between his cane and the Growlithe feeling like he needed to clear the way, it was difficult. However, fortune was with Heywood this day, as he was in possession of a rather potent battle machine this day.

"Haxorus--use your Dragon Claw. Get us to the top of this tower by way of the stairs. Growlithe, if you see a chance to use your Flamethrower safely, please do so." Assisted by Shane's Mightyena and Kumatora's budding psychic talents, surely they could get to the bottom of things. Or in this case, the top.

One should always avoid will-o-wisps, nevermind attack them. The ghostly fire danced before the squirtle's eyes as if mocking it before abruptly lashing out and striking the pokemon, inflicting it with a severe burn if it hit. A Chandelure appeared at the top of the stairs, blocking their way forward. The pokemon had an uncanny resemblance to a chandelier with ghostly fires burning in it.

"Your friend's time has come. Do not attempt to take what is no longer yours..." the pokemon warned in pokespeak before being abruptly decked by Haxorus without warning. The dragon pokemon just sort of rushed the ghost type, striking out with the axe-blades adorning it's head to send the pokemon spinning wildly out of control into a wall, where it bounced off and just sort of deliriously wobbled around, apparently unable to take the hit.
