Horatio Castle

It's a lie.

0 · 608 views · located in Wing City Hospital

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by AugmentationAudit

Description

BASIC INFORMATION

Name/Nickname: Horatio "Old Ho" Castle
Sex: Male.
Age: 32.
Marital Status: Married.
Profession: CEO of Castle Corp. and something of a business tycoon.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Height: 6’0
Weight:145 pounds
Hair: Copper-brown, though when oiled back into his customary style it appears closer to black.
Eyes: Green.
Complexion/Skin Tone: Pale skin that frequently takes on a greyish cast.
Distinguishing Marks/Scars: A deep, upwards-curving scar is clearly noticeable beneath his right eye.
Appearance: An unhealthy looking man by all accounts, and one with little stamina since his return from abroad; he holds himself carefully, sometimes shuffling with hunched shoulders when tired. He has been known to walk with a crutch. Outside of the public eye, he tends to use a self-propelling wheelchair to get around. It is neon green, and was chosen by his daughter.

Anything else: He takes a great deal of care when dressing, liking to appear immaculate even when he feels far from it. His typical outfit is topped by a dark brown frock coat.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Likes: Lavender, the works of William Shakespeare (especially Sonnet 20), salmon.
Dislikes: Parasites of any form, rats, the cold, blunt knives, mess.
Undecided about: Mr Maxey quoting (or misquoting) the works of William Shakespeare.
Physical Condition/Health/Disabilities: Since his return from overseas he has suffered from a poor constitution. He kept to himself with limited finances for three years since his return, before becoming a part of a mega corporation. He appears to be unhealthy in general, being overly thin and often pallid. The true nature of his illness is not something he wishes to share.
Talents: A qualified medical surgeon with speciality in paediatrics. He has worked his way (possibly illegally) into the management of the corporation he joined.
Family: Married, but his partner is unknown. Overprotective aunts he tries to avoid. He visits his parents on occasion. He has one adoptive daughter: Eevee.
Goals/Life’s ambition: His true life’s ambition is private.
Bad Habits: He is a secretive being by nature.
Happiest memory: His happiest memory is a private affair.
Equipment: Although he still possesses the tools of his previous trade, he tends to carry little save for what can fit within the confines of his coat pocket: a mobile phone, a notepad, a pen, a bottle of antibacterial hand gel.
History/Bio: A highly private man, very little is actually known about his life before he came to settle in London, and even less is disclosed by Horatio himself. After training in London, he worked abroad with an aid organisation for several years. He became unwell overseas and eventually returned to England to convalesce, the exact dates of these happenings are unknown.
Possessing joint-citizenship, he moved to America to work for Klinton Co (now Castle Corp) as some form of investigator.
Over the next five years, he gained rank in the corporation Klinton Co, before taking over management almost overnight in a shock move.

Horatio Castle is a powerful man in many ways, despite his obviously human frailties. His assets are massive, his staff larger, and he is renowned for hiring dangerous people for less than savory jobs.

He owns Wing City Hospital, which he commissioned to be built through charitable foundation with an injection of his own funds to get it off the ground. He is protective of this venture, and will happily take steps to defend it. He has several emergency medical facilities set up around the city, so that, in the eventuality of the hospital having to close, he would easily be able to start up elsewhere away from the main site.

So begins...

Horatio Castle was infinitely glad that there was no 'I'm sorry' anywhere in her speech, because that above all else made him feel wretched even when he was doing well. Even without a symptom to bother him, when the sun was shining and he had just been given a sizeable pay-check (in short, his perfect day), he could still be reduced to a foul mood by a single apology. Believe it or not, he was sorry too, sorry for himself.

He didn't dwell on that, as Kendra seemed to be avoiding the subject, though the offer for help... he frowned internally, because most offers for help didn't come like that. Curious, he asked, "How do you mean?"

Horatio Castle gave her a long look before deciding that no, she wasn't trying to patronise him. He had had a feeling that she was a little more than she seemed (Max rarely stuck around boring for long, or put in any effort to keep it happy), and this could confirm it.

He thought the idea over for a few more moments before prodding the crutch towards her and finally, faintly reluctantly, showing her his hand. As practical as his crutch was, and as useful as it proved, no man was spared the irritation. He'd developed a nice callous a year previously when he'd had a bad spell, but this was his first relapse in a while so his hand was suffering the consequences again.

Horatio Castle allowed Kendra to take the crutch as he trusted her to give it back... unlike some people. He'd only had it honestly stolen once, but he was wary of that happening again these days. However, Kendra wasn't some dirty, spitting rat child spawned from some unclean council estate; he was certain that the mother of said brat was only about twelve, despite her claiming to be at least twenty. As if that made it better; her son was old enough to spit, spout vile language, and steal his crutch...

His thoughts were as scattered as his speech at times. "I- that would be appreciated." He was a little awkward, rather unsure, but making mental notes at all times in case it proved useful later.

Horatio Castle ran his hands, one blistered, one smooth, over the worn item, as thankful for it as he was resentful; he was rapidly becoming swept away by his own thoughts, and sought to dredge himself back to the present. He was tired, very much so, and still cold despite the fire; he was probably coming down with something other than the obvious, likely some flu or other... wonderful.

Still distracted, he commented vaguely. "Some people, but not many; Max is a lucky man." Or a very, very clever one.

Horatio Castle was drifting a little (a sure sign that he'd either overdone it with his medication, worn himself out, or was having a relapse in earnest), but he didn't seem to mind; he wasn't in pain now that he'd finally deigned to stay still, and he felt close to safe in the current company.

"Tea? Oh, hot and wet, I assume. But lots of sugar if I have a choice, cream rather than milk."

Horatio Castle was certain that he had just seen a woman grow tentacles, which was a shocking image. One that made him think of his younger years and his older brother making him sit down and watch Teeth... and then he couldn't get the image out of his head, grafting it straight onto the unfortunate Ori. He tried very hard not to shudder as he muttered a polite "thank you" before turning to Kendra, relieved that she had spoken to distract him.

"His number?" He assumed the woman was afraid of the feelers and teeth as well, so he nodded. "Of course." He handed over one of Max's own business cards rather than reading the number aloud where the alarming woman could hear.

Horatio Castle was happily oblivious of the plans being made about him over his head (because in his slightly muddled state the idea of Max forcing him to bed would have been very, very welcome, but not for any of the right reasons), at least for a moment. When Ori spoke he had a hard time not scowling.

"Am I alright?" he asked. "Why do you ask?" Masochist, the voice in the back of his head (that sounded a lot like his mother sometimes) chided.

Horatio Castle sighed in relief as the woman-thing decided to leave, though he pushed the tray of tea away from them with distaste. "Never trust someone who gives you just what you want to drink without you having to ask," he said softly, resting back into his armchair.

"And I should be fine, though thank you for the offer." He had a lift arranged, though it was taking no small amount of time to arrive... she'd probably forgotten, or become so distracted with something that his request had been indefinitely delayed.

He sighed; he should have lied and said that Max was-

Horatio Castle was quite aware that he was fighting a losing battle, as with Kendra's fork pointing at him and Max's hot hands on his shoulders (and the weight of drug-haze, tiredness and cold weighing him down) he was in no mood to argue. They were right; he was exhausted, it was late, and his ride was a no-show.

"I'm not going to fight you," he said, quickly continuing when Max opened his mouth to speak. "And shush; she doesn't need to hear another AIDs joke; you'll put her off."

Horatio Castle had been following Max for a long time, but had never seen him teleport two people at the same time and have the same number of people come out the other side, so he was naturally rather apprehensive about the whole process. Would Max kill them both just because he could? Horatio wasn't sure, and he didn't really want to die... but... it would probably be worth the risk, and even if he did die in transit: what a death it would be!

Max, on the other hand, was quite confident, and had done this before, though it hurt like a bitch and left him feeling like jelly inside afterwards. He'd probably end up going to be as well, but if it meant impressing the pair of them and getting them both into one location where they could entertain him? Totally worth it.

He grinned again. "Fantastic! Hold onto your hats then, ladies!" He laughed, took a single, deep breath and vanished with the pair of them in tow.

Horatio Castle made his way into the room, a crutch in one hand and an iPad in the other; he appeared to be reading something though he had deliberately tilted the screen so only he could see what was typed there. He moved quite slowly, more to facilitate his reading than for reasons associated with the crutch; he had only brought it for reassurance seeing as he wasn't having that bad a day. However, like his tazer, the crutch made him feel that little bit safer when in public. ...and tended to stop people stepping on his feet, which he appreciated.

He sat himself down at the cleanest table he could find, still reading, and set his crutch across his knees. Only then did his eyes flick to the room around him.

Horatio Castle had a premonition, not for the first time, that his client wasn't going to show. Stifling the urge to groan, or possibly throw something, he jabbed at the screen of his iPad as if it had done him the injustice of standing him up. Really, he was getting sick of booking an appointment only to have the client vanish off the face of the earth.

Glaring for a moment, he set the iPad aside before he broke it, leaning back in his seat with an irate sigh.

Horatio Castle was, actually, rather irritated that some idiot with a gun had chosen that exact moment to- start being an idiot. He got up, picked up his ipad, and left looking deeply displeased by how utterly stupid some people could be in a public bar.

Sat in the bar, again. Horatio was glaring at his iPad looking worn out and generally aggravated as he poked the screen with the tip of his finger. His crutch had been thrown down beside his chair in disgust, everything about him simmering with displeasure. He had been stood up, again and it was beginning to get on his nerves.

His bloody contact had probably turned up last night only to be shot by the lunatic that had driven Horatio from the bar. He set the iPad aside with a growl of frustration, dropping his head into his hands and rubbing a slow pattern across his forehead in an attempt to stave off a migraine.

Horatio Castle was lost in moody contemplation, eyes glazed as strangely flattering thoughts of destruction fluttered through his brain. He was tempted to throw his iPad into the fire just to see what would happen; he could always get another- he blinked. A glass of something tempting had decided to appear on said iPad... how-

"Yes, yes, I must say I am having-" Horatio broke off with a rather violent start as someone yelled loudly, sending an electric thrill from head to toe. He hadn't been expecting that, at all, and the resulting half-leap out of his chair was both ignominious and rather painful.

Horatio Castle settled back down in his seat, his scowl intensified to near murderous proportions. "I would hardly need to be jumpy if rude idiots didn't insist upon shouting for no other reason than to take their temper out on a server." He sniffed, displeased. "When a person has legs that work you would think that they'd use them, but apparently not; it's easier to shout, upset people and get what you want like a child."

He shook his head, rubbing the cramp in his leg.

"I suppose you're right; some people never learn when it comes to basic manners," Horatio groused, draining his glass quite impressively given his pale, weedy appearance; he didn't look like the sort of person that could empty a glass of whisky in three quick swallows, but apparently he was.

"They cost nothing, believe it or not," His voice was a little rough, but otherwise stable. "Unless they have to be directed towards people like him, of course. Then they cost a great deal." Gesturing to the empty glass, he smiled. "Thanks for that, by the way."

Horatio Castle looked faintly mournful at the mention of more, but shook his head; he was already going to suffer for that, a small, doctor-ish part of his mind was telling him sternly; he ignored it, told it to go die along with his good health. If he couldn't even have a drink any more... His eyes flicked to the crutch for a moment before he pointedly looked away.

"I most certainly could, but another would probably be a bad idea; I'm pushing my luck already, to be honest." Not that he was at all happy about that fact; he'd have to be careful with his medication tonight, that was for certain. "I'll leave it with that one before I start to regret it; wouldn't want to turn into one of those idiots."

He chuckled somewhat wryly about the whole situation as he held out his hand to shake. "Horatio."

Horatio Castle offered the man a slightly shallow smile as they shook; he wasn't feeling particularly cheerful and couldn't seem to get the damned doctor voice out of his head no matter how hard he tried to stamp it down. He knew what he was doing, one glass wasn't going to kill him and he knew what drugs he couldn't take the night time dose of now that he'd had something to drink. He picked an ice cube from the glass, running it across his palm for no other reason than because he physically could. He wasn't sure how to be honest with himself, feeling torn in two... he tipped the ice back into the glass, thoughtlessly licking the moisture from his hand.

"Would you believe that I've had the misfortune to meet the prize prick of the bunch every time I've entered this place?" he asked. "I think I'm cursed," he added with a laugh as he rubbed his hand on his thigh.

If he noticed Juoram looking, Horatio didn't seem to pay it any mind, too busy worrying about his own problems if he was being perfectly honest, which, these days, he rarely was. There was a nice burn starting under his skin, sending him light-headed; he unconsciously mirrored the other man's pose as he settled back into his seat. Walking was going to be interesting later, but later was, by definition, not right now; later could wait.

"My life would be very, very dull in the absence of pricks," There was a duel meaning there, and Horatio's lips twisted into a slightly humourless smirk. "Then again, I never seem to find the right sort of prick."
