The sight of an armed and armoured woman appearing out of thin air in the middle of Volary was not one that Ira had expected to see on an idle walk through the sloping streets of the city. The sharp featured young man halted across the street from Enda, hesitating for several seconds with surprise. Nearby, other citizens stared with equal bewilderment, some murmuring suspiciously amongst themselves. A woman picked her child up from where he had been playing in the street, sweeping through a door into her home and shutting it firmly behind her.

Ira took a breath, before striding in Enda's direction, raising a hand to hail her. "Stranger!" he called out, speaking the Volarian local language, "State your intent and identify yourself."

The young Lord's palm flexed at his side, ready to snatch up the glaive that was fastened to his back should the foreign woman prove hostile. Her sheathing of the weapon, however, reassured him that was not the case.

The knight rose her hands immediately, turning to face Ira. She was alarmed, and it showed. She looked around at all the people around her, noticed, very quickly (as it was hard not to notice something so obvious) that every one of them...had wings. Her eyes swept back around to Ira.

"Be calm," she said to him, keeping her hands up. "I don't mean any harm. I've come here by accident! My name is Enda Klee. I'm a knight of Karyuse. You wouldn't know it, trust me. We were under attack. Some..." Her eyes darted to the side. How would she explain Strizek? He was no god. "...one...transported me here. At random. Please, I'm lost."

Her tone was very calm, very controlled. She tried a soft smile. "Please."

Ira gave the strange woman a dubious stare, folding his arms and frowning. The way her eyes moved gave him pause - there was clearly something that she was hiding, or at least omitting from her explanation. However, her confusion and alarm did seem to support her insistence that she had not intended to appear here.

"Enda. Alright," Ira sighed, switching to speak in the same language as Enda and relaxing his posture slightly, "My name is Ira. You are in the city of Volary, if you know of it, on the continent of Shintenchi." The lack of recognition in the woman's face was apparent, so he went on "... on Terra?"

He shook his head and waved a hand dismissively. "Explaining that can wait. I think you should come with me before you get in any trouble." Ira turned to walk back in the direction of the palace and the guards' barracks, but paused. "You said you were under attack. There is no chance of you being followed, correct? By the same ... method you used to get here?"

"It would be impossible," the knight said. "No one knows where I've gone. As you can see, not even I know where I'd gone. Traces are not left behind. Don't worry." Enda covered her tracks rather well.

"The palace? What will happen to me there?" she asked. "As heavenly as this all seems-" She raised her palm to gesture to the city, "-I've learned not to judge solely on appearance. I need to be careful. You understand, right?" The knight slacked her arms at her sides. This was either a very good situation, or a very bad one. She was on Terra. That was great! But where was Lark? Taylor? Duke? Railynn?

"Am I the first person who's appeared here like that?"

Shadows passed overhead before several more winged men arrived on the scene. Alighting upon the ground in a flurry of grey feathers was Kamil Iyengar, Captain of the Royal Guard, and two of his men. The trio were armed with strangely mechanized looking three pronged spears.

With his men at his back, the Captain gave Enda a hard and studious look.

"What's going on here, Ira?" he asked in their native Volarian tongue. "Where did this woman come from?"

Humans in Volary were an uncommon enough occurrence as to make Enda quite the spectacle, though they weren't entirely unheard of. Enda didn't look anything like their Taiyou neighbors though, nor from one of the natives further south along the coast.

"To my knowledge, yes," Ira replied, "Much as you might be surprised to hear it, strange armoured women appearing out of thin air isn't a regular occurrence in Volary." He gave Enda a dry smirk. "Who'd have thought it, hm?"

It was at that moment that Kamil and the other guards descended. Ira turned to face the captain with a respectful nod. "About three feet to the left of where she is now, to my reckoning, Kamil," he said, slipping back into Volarian and smiling faintly. "Much to my surprise, she simply appeared. Teleported, or something of that nature."

He glanced back at Enda, "She seems to mean no harm. She says her name is Enda Klee, and that she came here by chance, not intent."

Enda was silent as what appeared to be a small flock of angels landed in front of her. The knight was a bit awe-struck. There were beautiful things in her world, and there were great things, as well, but very rarely were they both. She clopped her mouth shut and tried to greet them all with the same smile she had given Ira.

"I don't know if you speak the common language, like this man here-" She gestured to Ira, "But I heard my name in there, somewhere. I'm hoping that you aren't discussing the best way to get rid of my body. I really haven't done a thing wrong, have I?" She hoped she hardly looked threatening, despite having a giant sword strapped to her back. Despite wearing heavy dark armor and having more muscle than these feathery men combined.

Kamil lowered his powered-staff to hang loose at his side as Ira filled him in on Enda's peculiar arrival.

Still speaking in Volarian he turned to his men. "Search the city for others," he instructed. Both men bowed their heads before taking to the air once more.

Turning back to Enda, Kamil inclined his head in greeting.

"That your words are verified as truth, there will be no need for that," he replied. His accent was thick and he appeared less than fluent, but he was legible enough as he switched to the more common tongue. "In the interim I welcome to Volary."

He gestured to the sprawling city of crystalline spires with his staff.

To Ira he switched briefly to Volarian once more. "There were no others?" he asked.

"None that I know of," Ira replied, "She asked whether I had seen others like her, though. They may have appeared elsewhere, or not at all. I imagine if they have, we'll hear of it before long."

Folding his arms, Ira looked back to Enda. "Where are you from?" he asked, returning to speaking her language. "You mentioned being a knight of... Karyuse, was it? Is that a place on Terra?"

Enda gave Kamil the slightest of bows. After all, it wasn't her land, and she was intruding, wasn't she? Might as well be polite.

"Thank you. This place is amazing. I'm surprised I had not heard of it before, when I was living in Terra." she told the Captain. She waited patiently as they spoke. When a question was directed at her, she heaved a sigh.

"No. It's on another planet entirely. In another universe...I think. Either that, or so far away that anyone in a spaceship hasn't been able to find it." she explained. "Karyuse, in the continent of Madeva, on the planet of Sozo."

"Few arrive in Volary," Kamil explained to Enda.

"If it's transport back to her planet that she requires, see that she's taken to Narita. From there she can find transport elsewhere," he told Ira in Volarian. The avorian Captain seemed more comfortable within his own tongue. "The Matriarch is to return today, I need to go see to her arrival. Tend to our guest?" he asked Ira with a nod towards Enda.

"As you wish," Ira replied, inclining his head. "I hope everything goes smoothly."

He turned to Enda then, giving her a final searching once over. "The Captain was just saying that if you need transport elsewhere, the nearby city of Narita will be able to provide that. You are of course welcome to stay in the city for however long you want, if you desire it. I couldn't tell you whether Sozo is known to the other Terran peoples, but between our Shogunate neighbours and the peoples of Aslund, it's possible- should you wish to return there."

Enda's eyes flickered to the ground.

"I'm not sure if I do." she said. "I'm no longer needed there. At the same time, I'm not quite sure what else should be done."

Find her friends? Is that what needed to happen? With Taylor, Duke, Railynn, and Lark? Strizek had mentioned something before she departed. Perhaps get back to Aslund? Wing City? What was waiting for her, there? She was sure Taylor and Duke were together, by now, as well as Railynn with Lark.

And yet still, she could not be sure. If she had nothing else to do, then she would do the only thing she could. Find them. Starting...

Oh, spirits, where?

"If it's alright, I'll wait here, see if anyone shows up."

"I don't see why it wouldn't be," Ira replied non-committally, shrugging his shoulders. "Come," he gestured, "Walk. I'll show you around a bit."

Starting forwards, Ira turned his head to address Enda as they walked. "Tell me more about what brought you here. You said you were under attack?" he inquired. Civilians they passed turned to look with interest at Enda, her unfamiliar ethnicity combined with her being human made her quite the oddity amongst the city of winged beings.

Enda fumbled with possibly lying or just telling him outright that she would rather not let him know. She only just met these people, but...what were a few vague details? They would never be able to reach Sozo.

"We were...I was...in a war," began Enda. "Against a rival kingdom. She made eye contact with everyone they passed, staring at them just as much as they were staring at her. "Spirits, everyone here..." came a quick mumble, eyes carrying to their wings. Even all her time in Wing City, in Sozo...strange places, but this...?

"...ah. Sorry. I was serving in a war...and it seemed the tides had changed just for us. Unluckily, something happened to turn that coin over again. As much as I tried to fix it, I wasn't doing much more than making the situation worse, so I left in the midst of an attack. As cowardly as that sounds, it wasn't...it was the only thing to do to help."

Enda bit her lip. Perhaps that was a bit much. "What are you all? Everyone has wings, here. I can't quite say I've experienced anything like this. It's amazing."

"We are Avorians," Ira replied, "And perhaps it is. I certainly find our architecture more appealing than that of our neighbours, but I have yet to see what lies in foreign lands. I've heard tell, of course, of some impressive buildings. It's not really my area of expertise, though."

He laughed, "And trust me, it is as curious to us that you humans do not have wings, as it is to you that we do. At first, at the least. Many here do not frequently travel to the Taiyou lands nearby, and so still consider other races very unusual."

Enda was on the balcony to Ira's house. Her armor lay in a neat pile to the side, while she sat in loose cloth, her sword laying across her lap. She ran her fingers over the neelamite crystal edges, allowing the blade to sing a single high note into the air. The wind from up there- oh, how high they were! Blew all her hair into her face.

With a cheery smile, the knight got to her feet, fastening the sword onto her side. She crossed her arms and turned heel to go back into the house.

"Ira?" she called. "It's been three days, but I'm still convinced you need to know that I'm going to wonder off in case I get lost."

Ira glanced up at Enda towards the balcony from his position on a seat inside, where he was carefully whittling away at a small piece of pine wood with an equally pocket-sized knife. Though the shape was indistinct, curves seemingly in the shape of wings were starting to take form, along with an arched back - some sort of bird, perhaps, or maybe a particularly stylised avorian. Multiple painted wood carvings of a similar nature were placed around the spacious (in comparison to the small rooms of many home, most of animals.

Whilst not quite at the levels of grandeur of the palace, Ira's home was larger than seemed to be common in the city, both taller and with more spacious floors (though still small compared to most non-Avorian buildings due to their propensity for building upwards as opposed to outwards). Though all of Volary seemed to consist of elegantly ornate buildings, no two quite the same for all their artful spires and archways, those in the area of Ira's home were also that touch more beautiful.

"I'm sure the guards will be willing to send you in the right direction if you do," he replied, raising an eyebrow. "Where were you planning on wandering to?"

Ira paused for a moment, "I suppose that's a poor question. You don't have a destination in mind. I need to go to the merchant district to buy some new paints, if you want to accompany me. Navigating the shops can be difficult if you don't know where to look, and many of the signs are above street level."

A familiar figured alighted upon the balcony to join Enda as she moved to re-enter the building.

"Lady, Kee. I trust your stay is found welcome," he offered with a slight incline of his head in greeting.

The Captain turned his attention to Ira next. "Ira," he called as he followed Enda through the spacious and open balcony towards the interior. When he spoke again it was in his native tongue. "We're having demonstrations with the new rocket angels down in the training fields if you want to join us."

Not all of the avorian people were pleased with the new technological advancements the Taiyou had been bringing, especially the military assets - but many too supported the direction their matriarch Avantia had chosen to lead them in recent years.

"Demonstrations, you say?" Ira raised an eyebrow as Kamil arrived, setting aside his carving and rising from his seat. "I have to say I'm interested in what the Taiyou creations can do. Honestly I don't know why people would complain."

He spoke in the Avorian language for the moment, before pausing to glance at Enda. "Do you think our guest might accompany us?" he asked, "Or else I fear she may get lost again. There is nothing to keep secret, is there?"

"That sounds just fine to me, Ira. I really do need a way to thank you for all this: can't be easy having an armed stranger in your home where you sleep, aye?" She gave him a friendly wink. "Makes me wish I had a pair of wings, m'self, with the way this city is built, but I'm sure I'd be a failure of a...what do you call yourselves again? Ah! Avorian." She placed her hands on her hips and smiled broadly.

When the Captain came up behind her upon the balcony, Enda's eyes widened briefly before she bowed her head in return. "Oh! Of course. Volary is quite pleasant, though I assure you both I will be departing soon, though I haven't found any of my friends. I don't plan to be a burden much longer."

She was silent as the two men spoke, keeping her arms folded. She looked between them, hoping that perhaps she could make something out, but she was at a complete loss.

"There's always people who will fear change. They'll come around in time," Kamil explained. He glanced to Enda briefly at Ira's question as to her attendance. "I don't see why not," he added. "I'll see you in the fields in an hour."

Nodding his head to Enda once more, the Captain excused himself to go see to preparations for the pending demonstration.

With the demonstrations not taking place for another hour, Ira had gone ahead with heading to the shops towards the centre of the city in order to pick up painting supplies. The journey took a little longer than usual due to having Enda at his heels, and therefore being confined to the ground, a minor annoyance that was easily overlooked. At least she was chatty.

"You have been to Terra before, then?" Ira was asking as they made their way through the narrow streets. To either side the buildings of the city towered above them to great heights, their crystalline make reflecting the light in a myriad of patterns. "You seemed to recognise the name, at least. Might I ask how? By your own word, your home may well be in another universe altogether, so how is it you know our planet?"

"Aye!" replied Enda peppily. "I used to live here for quite some time. First came here when I was just a squire, really. I was never the best magic-user...I'm a complete oaf when it comes to the art! I was learning to make portals between the kingdoms to make travel easy. I made a portal, alright, but to the wrong place. To a whole new universe. I fell into Wing City and started an adventure. I learned quite a bit of new things. I believe I was fifteen when I first came here. It's been four years since." She nodded in conclusion. "I became one of the King's Chosen for a short time. I quit. Then the royal family was murdered, and I became the Knight-Queen. I wasn't able to quit that before I was teleported here, but they'll find a replacement, I'm sure."

She surely did not seem like a woman who could run a kingdom. Far from it. But there was one certain thing about her. Ira was right about her being chatty.

"I wonder, though. You've spent your whole life here, right?" the knight asked Ira.

"Such as it is," Ira replied with a nod, eyebrow raised with a slightly bemused smile. "I must say, I've barely lived by comparison to that story. You're... a Queen? I would never have guessed. Not to offend, of course, but you don't seem much like the type to me. I would have expected a Queen to make it a point to let everybody know that she was a Queen." He chuckled, "I've found royal blood often leads to a certain sense of entitlement, even in places where that blood means nothing at all."

He paused to consider his words for a moment, "I suppose I can't really say that, though. I am, after all, of royal blood myself. I've always considered myself the exception to the rule, though. In that amongst many other things."

Enda widened her eyes. "Oh, you? Why, the way you walk among the others like one of them I wouldn't have guessed! Myself, no, I'm not of royal blood. I only took the position because there was no one else to fill the position for those four months. But you...why would you say you are an exception? If I could be so brave to ask."

"I was referring to the way I hold myself, compared to much of my family. I neither expect nor desire any preferential treatment. As for in other matters, I make a habit of going against the grain. It is not traditional for men in Volary to learn magic, and yet I taught myself. Equally it is not traditional for men in Volary to abstain from taking a wife or partner, and yet, so it is. That one's the most frowned upon, though largely my choice in the matter is respected. We are not plentiful in number, and producing children is a highly valued goal in life." Ira shrugged his shoulders with a dry smile, "The idea has never appealed to me, although largely due to the necessity of taking a female partner for it, something in which I have no interest."

This took a few moments to go through Enda's mind. She shifted the sword upon her back, rolling her shoulders, and nodded. "I see." said the knight. "Then it would seem a few things are against you. Do you enjoy it here? In Volary? Don't get me wrong, the city is beautiful. The people here are amazing. But...to be confined to one city throughout one's entire life...is..."

"Tiring? Frustrating? Yes, I agree. And yet, it is home, and I've little desire to relocate myself to Narita or elsewhere amongst our neighbours or surrounding territories. Perhaps one day I will travel farther abroad, but for the time being, I have responsibilities here and nothing pulling me away. Life is not bad here, don't get me wrong. It is merely at times... limiting." Ira smiled, shaking his head, "We are nearly there, see the building at the end of the street on our right?" he pointed the building in question out.

"Yes," said Enda, despite wanting to continue the conversation further upon the topic of his current situation...and future travels. "Ah, that must the paint store. Again, you surprise me. However, I do admit I am used to being in the presence of warriors and not artists. Battlefields, as opposed to rooms filled with little sculptures. It's a refreshing change, to be truthful."

"They are not mutually exclusive," Ira noted with a grin, "I am, after all, one of the royal guard myself."

Close. She was close.

Spyri didn't give too much of a crap as she barreled through the light crowds. Her limbs had grown lanky, her torso elongated and overall appearance gangly. Despite this, the blade on her hip seemed natural where it was. Her cape swirled behind her, worn and dirty but sturdy. It complimented her determined glower as she made her way towards where she was going.

Enda was here.

At first she stormed past shops and people, not caring to look in or at either. The sword told her she didn't have to, and the girl wasn't about to waste her time. Every now and again, in a spot clear of anything, she would halt and touch the hilt of the blade. Closing her eyes she concentrated. Listened?

In another moment the girl was off. Two legs carried her far, Not as far as wings would carry me, Spyri thought irritably. Still she made her way towards the pulses of Cha'tlag. They would bring her to Enda. The shops were getting classier, she noticed off hand. Lots of interesting things to look at, if she wasn't on a specific search for-

"ENDA!"

Three sheets to the wind, Spyri took off in a gallop after the form of Enda as she began to slip from sight.

"ENDANDANDANDANDANDANDANDANDANDANDA"
