Isobel Shields racked her brain for a moment as she tried to recall any of the lore surrounding the fae. Did they have any powers related to or made stronger by touch? She couldn't remember. Goddammit, Isobel! Get yourself into a situation like this after you had just run away from a similar one. Sighing inwardly yet showing nothing but charm on her exterior, she finally reached out to his extended hand and shook it, her eyes holding a charmed interest in hopes to please the vain fae. "Well met, my name is Isobel." She withheld her nickname, Izzy, he didn't seem the type to use anything less than formal monikers. The need to clear her throat, turn tail, and run for the hills all swept her at once. Yet, for some odd reason, she stood (or sat?) her ground and hoped for the best. "What brings someone like you to a place like this?" Her question was quite truthful, he seemed the type for fancier establishments. Gambit's was more of a rough and tumble brawl bar with its thieves and fights and general tone of discord.

Isobel Shields suppressed a shudder as the man's enhanced chuckle seemed to roll over her skin like a caress and though she couldn't control the goosebumps which sprang up along her skin, at least she didn't run either. Knowing her luck, the man would take it as a sign of a battle won and perhaps be even harder to deal with should they have a second encounter.

Maybe she just shouldn't hang out at Gambit's anymore.

Taking her hand back from his grasp, she desperately wanted to trace a rune of protection to shield herself from his magical essence, but didn't know how he would take it if he caught her. For now, he didn't seem too intent on causing her harm so she stayed her hand and rested it upon her thigh with her other hand still clasped lightly around her glass of whiskey.

"Well, thank you. Not many people seem to bear the name Isobel anymore, it seems, though I bet you feel the same. I have never met a man with the name of Trephan before. It sounds.. exotic, noble." Her glass lifted to her lips once more to calm her parched throat, whiskey used to fuel her conversation. "So tell me, what business would Wing City have for a man such as yourself?" Keep the conversation focused solely on him and perhaps she would make it through the day unscathed.

Okay so this obviously wasn't the way she had intended for the conversation to go. Yet how could she keep his vanity in check while at the same time being bland enough that he wouldn't wish to continue his games? Bloody hell she was bad at this. Why had she never paid attention to Doc's lessons in the Academy? He had spent a whole day on the fae, on the two courts and their powers, weaknesses, etc. Sadly enough, she had probably spent the day passing notes to her best friend instead of actually paying attention. Who knew you would actually need to know about the fae in real life?

Isobel toyed with her glass, fingertips tracing patterns into the condensation as she listened to him speak. He did have a rather pleasant voice and.... Wait, what? No! That's simply his magic. She shook her head slightly as if trying to physically clear the mist that was forming in her thoughts then flashed him a grin as he finished his last statement. "Property development? Are you, perhaps, the one constructing that new Hotel in the center of town? I've heard so much about it already and the property has barely been sold, yet I've heard the gossip. It's supposed to be a luxury resort, much more tasteful than this place."

Isobel Shields studied Trephan's face as he spoke, wondering if the innately magical being had to actual try for his spells to work or if it simply came naturally. Inflecting magic into his statements as a normal human might simply change their vocal intonation. It intrigued her, yet scared her at the same time. If he could do such things without trying, then perhaps she should shield herself. Using the tip of her finger, which was already idly moving about the surface of her glass, she traced out a rune of protection, allowing the magic to gather slowly in hopes of not attracting his attention. Once finished, she lifted her hand, dragging it through her blond tresses in a natural motion of pushing her hair back away from her face, allowing the magic to release around her head and face to at least partially protect her mind from his wordplay. She couldn't weave a stronger spell without attracting his attention and the attention of every other magical being in the bar.

"What type of project did you have in mind for this City? I know the city quite well, perhaps...." she trailed off, mentally berating herself for what she had been about to offer. She really didn't want to see him again, in fact, she wanted to get as far away as possible. So what had her offering future assistance?

Isobel Shields felt the barest hint of magic that was not her own tracing along her fingers and she bit her lower lip. Busted. Yet he hadn't said anything out loud so perhaps he wasn't offended... Yet with the statement that he had made about seeing the city through her eyes, perhaps that was a threat? Her mind whirled once again as she tried to recall what sort of fae could or would swap bodies or body parts. She really should have paid attention in class! If she lived through today, she would have to drag out her old Mythology and Folklore textbook to research the fae a bit more in depth just in case she ever bumped into this man again.

She kept her hand still instead of whisking it back and dusting it off on her jeans as she wished to do. Perhaps if she tried something different.... Her eyes widened a bit at his suggestion to show him around and she blushed on cue, "Oh me? I doubt I would entertain you for more than a minute out in the city. We have plenty of people that have been around longer than I have." She knew that her fear was beginning to infiltrate her voice so she paused for a moment to steady herself.

Isobel Shields felt panicked. Perhaps she should just leave the city for a bit to avoid this next meeting with the fae. Even if she would brush up on her lore, she didn't know if she could or would survive another encounter. The fae were mischevious creatures, sometimes downright malicious. So the true question was- why was his interest centered on her? He had obviously caught her using magic... She stopped her thoughts from circling in her mind as she drew in a deep breath and forced another smile upon her face. "Ahh, well then I will look forward to seeing you again." He sounded as if he was about to leave. Good. She had a lot of reading to do.

Isobel Shields inhaled sharply as he leaned in close for her, her breath catching in her throat as she thought he was going to press a kiss to her lips as he had to each of her fingertips earlier. But then, he pulled away as if nothing had happened and strolled towards the door. Had she imagined it? She dragged her lower lip between her teeth in a thoughtful motion, watching the man as he sauntered away and wondering what exactly had happened. Perhaps the succubus part of her soul was simply intrigued by another magic-wielding being. Or perhaps he was some offshoot of fae that induced such feelings. Or, perhaps she was just going crazy. Having conversations with a maniacal possessed doll that no one else could hear speak would put that last option into the forefront.

Sighing, she turned back around on her stool so she faced the counter and stared into her whiskey. Now, where had she put her textbook on Myth and Folklore?

Isobel Shields walked back into Gambit's and this time she was carrying a few thin textbooks in her arms. As she approached the bar, she dropped the texts onto the countertop as she slid onto a barstool and raised her gaze to casually glance around for a bartender. Her brow furrowed slightly as she didn't catch a glimpse of any humans, that meant she would be left with robotic servers. She lifted one of the touchscreen menus, punching in a quick order for a lemon water, no more alcohol today, and set it back down so she could open up one of the books in front of her. It was titled, 'European Mythology and Folklore' and looked old and worn, with a dark leatherbound cover.

Isobel Shields skimmed a fingertip along the index, finding the section that she was searching for and flipping automatically to the indicated pages. "Classification of fairies and fae-like creatures...." she murmured to herself, only looking up momentarily as her water was deposited onto the counter in front of her. Her lips moved as she read silently, light eyes intense. Sadly enough, she should know all of this stuff but she had zoned out during the lessons. She also zoned out during the lesson on griffons so here's hoping that she didn't smack into one of them anytime soon.

Isobel Shields lifted her gaze, eyebrow arched in surprise as the two men that were seated by her held a conversation. One that she didn't want to overhear any longer. Gathering her books in her arms, then latching a hold of her drink, she moved to a table far away, near the entrance, and resettled herself. Since she had the whole surface to herself, she stacked her unused texts in a small pile and then leaned the book that she was reading up against them so it was propped slightly, allowing her to read it without straining her neck. Next, she sat the water down to her right then rested her elbow upon the tabletop and leaned her chin into the palm of her hand.

Isobel Shields finally flipped closed her textbooks, frowning thoughtfully as she tucked them away into her messenger bag. Her mind was almost numb from the sudden influx of information, more than she had ever wanted to know about fae creatures and their kindred was now tucked away in her memory. A quick glance at her half-full lemon water caused her to pick it up, chugging down the rest in a single gulp.

Isobel Shields arched a brow as a rather gaunt looking woman suddenly galloped over to her table then stood still, silently staring at her. "Ahhh, hello?" she questioned, almost unwilling to speak to anyone else today after her first encounter this morning at the bar. Maybe she needed to ward herself a bit better to prevent detection. The blood mage always seemed to attract the abnormal.

Isobel Shields glanced at text as it was dangled in front of her- a rather well-worn cope of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland? A smile curved her lips as she reached out, plucking the book from the girl's fingertips and running a hand over the cover with a soft laugh. "My goodness, I haven't read this in forever," she reminisced. Curious eyes lifted back to the girl, brows knit inquisitively. Could this girl not read on her own? She seemed... Well, it was hard to tell how old she was. Her thin frame made her seem teenage at best.

Still, she had time so she opened the book, motioning with a finger at the first chapter's title, "Down the Rabbit-Hole..."

Isobel Shields let her gaze roam over the woman's face for a moment. Her tone held the meandering tone of a child's yet there was a hint of... something else. Letting another smile curve her lips, she lifted the book slightly so that the item caught Crepa's attention. "Would you like me to do voices?" she paused to let the girl answer. "Now, I will do one chapter today. I can read a little to you each day if you wish." Something frightened her about the girl and she couldn't tell what it was. Perhaps she was just on edge from the morning's previous encounter though.

Isobel Shields began the story for the girl, using a girly British tone when playing Alice and an almost cartoonish male voice for the White Rabbit. Having read to her former classmates time and time again when she was younger, she made it a dramatic presentation, tone helping to represent Alice's fall through the Rabbit-hole as they neared the center of the chapter.

Isobel Shields smiled at the girl, treating her as she would a younger family member. Though she didn't have sisters, she had a ton of cousins ranging in age from newborn to 30 years of age. How would you explain this story when there were things more unbelievable at Gambit's than talking rabbits? One could run into a neko or talking bird and ruin her explanations completely. Wing City was a home for the unusual and unexplained. "Some rabbits can talk," she tried to carefully word her explanation, "There was a kitty in this very bar last night that could talk!"

She only stopped the presentation to answer the girl's questions, otherwise acting out each section as if she were on a stage. As Alice drank the bottle labeled 'Drink me', Isobel pretended to drink from a vial and as she found the cake that read, "Eat me' she faked nomming on a tiny pastry.

Isobel Shields nudged open the door to Gambit's with her hip as she texted furiously on her cellphone. Ahh, the wonders of modern technology that were available to someone like her with old school magic. The world truly was her oyster. When she finished with her message, she locked her cellphone and slipped it into her purse, finally allowing herself to chance a glance around the room. Her lips quirked into an amused smile as she noticed the wide array of patrons, brightly colored dragons to men garbed in dark depressing clothing. What a mix.

She shook her head as she began her path through the bar, stopping momentarily by a bloodied man in torn clothing that laid upon the floor, groaning. "Ahhh, do you need help? Healing?" She asked, a soft frown evident upon her lips. Some people despised magic or simply wanted to heal on their own so she wouldn't push the matter.

Isobel Shields felt a thrum of energy fill the air and glanced up towards the front door, eyes widening as she noticed a woman that was practically humming with magic. "Ah shit, what have I gotten myself into?!" Glancing down at the man laying before her, she sighed and whispered, "I really hope you don't mind, but blood fuels my magic. Don't hate me or anything, k?" Kneeling down, she dipped her fingertips into some of the man's blood that had spilled upon the floor and using it almost as an ink, she traced a few hurried runes into the ground in front of her. A sharp increase of magic flowed up from the life-blood causing a shimmering yet opaque shield to raise around her body.

Isobel Shields eyes closed as she felt the sudden influx of magical energies, protecting herself from the bright burst of light before all fell into darkness. Muttering to herself in the dark, she felt the magic of her shield beginning to erode and she moved her fingertip to her forearm, retracting the protection runes there so that they would reform and travel with her, effectively creating a forcefield around her body instead of being stuck to a certain point upon the floor. Drawing out a second set of runes, she added another layer of protection from magicks, layering that overtop of her shield in hopes that it would prevent the erosion of her magic should another attack be unleashed. A string of curses escaped her pale pink lips, something about overpowered bastards and warmongers coupled with some sort of vague reference to another topic that was lost in the low tones.

The young blood mage had been about to cast a light spell but realized that perhaps it was better for her unintentional enermies to be unable to locate her. So she used the opportunity to thread her way through the rubble, trying to find a way out of the damned bar.

Isobel Shields strolled back down Main Street, hoping that whatever chaos had inflicted the bar earlier was now gone. She needed a drink. The bloody runes were still scrawled on her forearm from before, the mage either hadn't deemed it necessary to wash them off or had simply forgotten about them and their continued presence caused a soft opaque protective shield to hover around her. She almost wore it like a second skin as it hovered over her black silken top and unmarred blue jeans.

Slipping past a gentleman that looked like he was steeling himself to face whatever was inside, she murmured a soft, "Excuse me" before pushing the door open and walking in ahead of him. Light blue eyes casually scanned the crowd, wincing slightly as she saw that another confrontation was already in progress. Hopefully this one didn't dismantle the bar.
