Personality

Ja'Aku is quite a pessimist, always viewing the glass half empty. He is a dour and dreary fellow. He is rather quiet, and broods quite often. Anytime something goes wrong that he is involved in, Ja'Aku almost always blames himself for the failure, even if no fault rests on him. Ja'Aku is also a bit of an alcoholic. Despite all of that, Ja'Aku is quite wise and was gifted with incredible patience.

Equipment

One long sword and one short sword.
Silver holy symbol of Odin.
50' rope.
Grappling hook.
1 week of trail rations.
Several belt pouches.

History

Ja'Aku, an elf hailing from the Western Elven Kingdom, began his career as a bodyguard-for-hire, and in his early days protected merchant caravans and rich nobles. One day, a wizened priest from the temple of Odin saw Ja'Aku in battle, and was impressed with how well he handled himself. The old priest offered to employ him as a temple guard, and though he could only pay Ja'Aku half of what the elf normally demanded, he offered to teach the swordsman the ways of divine magic.
Ja'Aku was quite content to live at the temple, serving as a bodyguard for one of the priestesses there, when the temple came under attack by a deadly group of assassins. Though Ja'Aku fought valiantly, he was no match for the highly skilled assassins, and was soon defeated. When the elf came to, he saw that the temple had been sacked, and a large number of priests were either dead or missing.
He traveled the world for some time, seeking revenge for what had been done, but when the final blow had been struck and the perpetrators lay dead at his feet, he felt no true sense of satisfaction. Now, he searches for a way to redeem himself.

So begins...

Ja'Aku entered the bar, a gloomy look on his face. His dark eyes scanned the place quickly before the elf proceeded directly to the bar counter.
"I need a drink," he muttered glumly.

Ja'Aku rested his head on the counter, feeling rather tired at the moment.
"Bartender," he grumbled loudly. "Can I get some service over here?"

Ja'Aku looks up at Sarah curiously. Elves were quite fond of music, and Ja'Aku was no exception. From his seat at the bar, he gave her a small wave.

Ja'Aku sighed, having not gotten his drink. Still, he thought he may still have some ale in his flask, tepid though it may be. Walking slowly across the bar, the elf headed toward Sarah, taking a seat beside her.

Ja'Aku "Greetings," Ja'Aku replied, his voice gravelly though not unfriendly. "I take it you're a bard of some sort, correct?"

Ja'Aku "Er, a bard is a profession, ma'am," he said. "It's a travelling musician of sorts."

Ja'Aku "Yup, definitely a bard," he muttered quietly, more to himself than anyone else.
In a louder voice, he said to her, "So what brings you to a place like this?"

Ja'Aku "Don't they do 'Jazz In The Canyon' not far from here?" he asked. "My friend Ellis says they pay the musicians pretty well over there."

Ja'Aku looked at her in surprise at this, his ears perking up. He quickly relaxed again, however, realizing that a homeless, penniless bard was not actually all that uncommon.
"Playing taverns for a few coppers each night isn't the best way to make a living, I suppose," Ja'Aku sighed.

Ja'Aku "How do you buy new strings for your cello, then?" the elf asked suspiciously. "Or do you steal them?"

Ja'Aku scratched the back of his head, then began to search through his many belt pouches for his whiskey flask.
"A law-abiding bard," he laughed mirthlessly. "That's a first."

Ja'Aku eyed Sarah curiously as he unscrewed the top from his small metal flask.
"So I'm guessing you hair from a family of thieves," the warrior-priest said to her.

Ja'Aku "Worse than thieves, eh?" Ja'Aku questioned, taking a swig of tepid whiskey. "What's worse? Yakuza? Necromancers? Cultists of Cthulhu? The Spice Girls?"

Ja'Aku spied Nathan behind the bar counter, and quickly regained his seat at the bar.
"I need something strong," the elf said, already fishing out a handful of coins.

Ja'Aku looked over at The Catalyst suspiciously. The elf did not like the looks of her. She looked like trouble.
However, his attention was pulled back to Sarah when he heard her speak.
"Come join me at the bar, girl," he said to her, patting the seat beside him.

Ja'Aku once again looked suspiciously at The Catalyst, but was taken aback by the voice that came out from beneath the hood. The warrior-priest had expected a voice more sinister sounding than that. Still, he did not like the looks of her at all.
He slowly sipped his drink, watching her from the corner of his eye. He nodded his silent thanks to Nathan.

Ja'Aku looked at The Assassin with wide eyes. There was little that the warrior-priest hated more than the undead. However, he knew to be wary around intelligent undead. Still, he could only wonder what something like the undead would be doing in a tavern.

Ja'Aku pulled his holy symbol out from beneath his shirt as a precaution, then gingerly poked The Assassin with one of his sheathed swords.

Ja'Aku "Just wondering what an undead creature is doing in a place of the living," the elf replied, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Ja'Aku studied The Assassin for a few moments, then calmly took a swig of his drink.
"I've actually said that phrase before, myself," the elf said to the undead. "You may be a blasphemous creature, but I like your personality nonetheless."

Ja'Aku "Hire yourself to kill me?" the warrior-priest chuckled. "I've never been threatened like that before. I don't think starting a fight with a priest is a very wise ..."
However, Ja'Aku was interrupted by Nathan as the bartender handed his flask back to him.
"Oh, thank you," he said, handing the bartender three more gold coins.

Ja'Aku "I'm not fond of being called a moron," Ja'Aku replied, "especially not by a bag of bones. But I'm in too foul a mood to really care."
The elf sighed glumly as he downed the last of his drink.
