Ngihtfall in Wing City. One could argue both sides of the coin when it came to when the city was most active. The day was always a hustle and bustle; families out shopping, or office employees running to and fro. Businesses were almost always busy, regardless as to the product being offered. Everything had value to someone in this huge city.

But Night was busy in it's own way. Parties, clubs, Drinks, Drugs, sex and sociopaths.

And a young Elf.

Ja'keth walked through the city wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sleeves ripped off at the shoulder. The purpose of the modification to the sweater was clear, to reveal a certain tattoo on the youth's arm.

"Doesn't it seem perfect?"

He had silently sauntered up to the younger elf as though he had appeared from thin air. He was a very rangy, charming, sharp-featured man. He seemed to be in his mid twenties, and the lively reflection within his eyes only exaggerated the fact. Despite this, by the way he carried himself, swiftly taking careful and fluid steps, with a gentlemanly swagger and bounce to that walk, the knowing smirk on his face, the way those eyes scanned the area here and there, without seeming suspicious or paranoid, one almost had the sense that he was well, well past his years.

"It's like...a new beginning. We start here, we thrive, we spread out to other regions...but first we build it up somewhere close to home. I'm right, aren't I? I'm completely right." His tone was more fluid than that walk.

Ja'keth continued walking at a steady and deliberate pace as he ignored the fellow elf who popped up. While the other went on and on about...something, Ja'keth simply pulled the hood of the sweatshirt over his head.

There was a reason why he had not been entirely....happy when had heard that he would have company on this assignment.

"Can we just, not talk till we finish?" Ja'keth responded. "I mean, I know I'm not exactly in the position to give orders, but I was chosen because I have a very specific way of doing things. One of those details includes quiet."

"You act as if she's going to fall for that." Da'veth smirked in knowing. "What's this very specific way you like to do things, hmm? Either way, I think you're going to need to change your game up. Things might get a little unpredictable."

The taller elf rolled his shoulders back, several bones popping with the gesture. "Quiet isn't always a viable tool. Sometimes one absolutely must be chatty, lest things get awkward."

"You know what, you're the boss." Ja'keth sighed as he slowed his pace, falling behind Da'veth. "You want to shoot the shit, have some chit chat with the girl. go ahead. Who knows, maybe she's easy enough to actually fall for your 'smooth talk' and get into bed with you. that would seal the deal nicely."

Ja'keth glanced over his shoulders for a moment before turning his attention ahead once more.

"But my job is to make sure things aren't interrupted. And attracting attention in the middle of territory that doesn't belong to us is not going to make my job any easier."

One of Da'veth's hands came to his chest, and he feigned his offense to Ja'keth's statement. "You have completely misconstrued my intentions!" he gasped, and then leaned over close to the boy all of a sudden. "I'm...not really that bad, am I? I thought I was far more subtle." He straightened up with a hand held up to his chin.

"Ah. Here we are. Remember to keep your mental fortitude strong- neigh- make your mind unbreakable! She's a dangerous sort, and not at all right in the head." He paused, eyes facing the looming, almost sinister apartment building before them. He tapped those fingers on his chin. "I'll try to keep her attention on me. If anything happens, you either find a way to incapacitate or kill her. No mercy." He grinned. "Understood?"

"Let's just get this over with." Ja'keth sighed. "I just have a feeling I'm gonna be sore in the morning...."

Da'veth nodded. "Ah, very well, very well." He gave a lighthearted shrug, then moved into the apartment.

The place was run-down and ugly. The hallway had patches of wall crumbling, and graffiti on the walls. The railings were made of rickety, rusty pipes. The concrete was rough. There was trash all over their pathway and in piles in the corner.

"...how sanitary," sneered the older elf. They came to a door that was worse for wear. It looked like mites had taken to the wood. There were various small holes in its surface.

When Da'veth knocked onto it, it swung open. He blinked. "Well, that's one way to do it, I suppose."

Walking inside, he ducked his head down. There was debris everywhere, very little furniture, and knives stuck in one wall with crudely drawn target rings around them. The shots were frighteningly accurate.

And there, curled up in a corner wearing a little lilac cocktail dress, was the culprit. A pale elven woman with dirty blonde hair that sprawled out on the ground at her feet. Her hands shook, just slightly, as she looked up at them from her knees.

Looking around Ja'keth developed a growing sense of nostalgia. Reminds me of home... He thought for a moment before shaking his head. He gave a glance to the woman they had come to speak with. At first look, she was pathetic. A drug addict with way too many problems. At least that's what the book's cover illustrated. But then again, he wasn't exactly a work of art himself. Knowing he was in no place to judge, Ja'keth kept his reservations to himself as he closed the door behind them, making sure the lock latched securely.

"You're up boss."

Da'veth gave a charming smile, aimed both at Ja'keth and the girl. He held his arms out, "Well, yes, Miss Ondonae-" He took a step forward, then stopped dead. The girl's eyes were locked onto him, unmoving and unblinking, while her fingers continued to tremble. Da'veth began to sway, and before he could do anything else, he tumbled into a nearby wall. He did not fall, but instead slid down it calmly, one hand covering his eyes.

"Not...you..." the elven psychic whispered brokenly to the older elf. Her gaze switched suddenly to Ja'keth. A steady pressure would begin to build up on his mind, something that was easily swept aside.

"What?" Ja'keth spat, rubbing at the side of his head. "You'd rather talk about this with me? Blondie believe me, you're better off just hearing what that one has to say. After all he gives the orders. I just follow 'em. He may be a bit of a slime ball, but it comes in handy in this business."

Pausing, Ja'keth blinked several times as he felt a headache building. "I should also advise you that we aren't here to cause you any trouble or bring harm to you. So it's in your best interest to treat us similarly. As strong as you think you are, there is always someone stronger."

It was a huge bluff of course. Ja'keth was himself only a minor elf, the bastard offspring of an elven father and a human mother. No powers, no magic, no strength, no incredible agility. Just the power he earned through his own trials.

"I...don't...like...him..." Her words came out in breaths that broke and formed something barely coherent. She sank in her place on the floor, comfy between the refrigerator and cupboards that were adjacent to them. A low, lyrical whine filled the room as she pressed her cheek against the floor. Her eyes never left Ja'keth through this movement. Not even once. "He's a mean, cruel man and I...don't...like him at all."

She pushed herself up suddenly, long strands of hair partially concealing her face. "Whaaaaat...did you want?"

"Yeah well I don't like him too much myself either, but that's the way things are. You're a grown woman, act like it. Don't go looking to me for pity."

He watched the girl curiously when she finished. What were they here for? While ignorance may be bliss, is was also fairly inconvenient. He looked over his shoulder at Da'veth. well what now, oh fearless leader?

"Anyway," The half-ling sighed as he turned back to the young female. "We're here to talk with you. We want to offer you a safe place with people much like yourself."

The woman flattened herself against the floor, face suddenly deadpanning. The pressure on Ja'keth's mind became heavier.

"Boring. Boring. Is that all?" She got onto her hands and knees from the beached whale position she had previously, then crawled toward Ja'keth. The woman ignored Da'veth completely. She propped herself up onto her knees in front of the younger elf boy. "I have a safe place. I have this...safe place..." A wan, drunk smile spread across her face. Without any real warning, her hands grabbed for his belt, and she pulled at it to get herself to her feet.

"I...want...other things."

Ja'keth covered his face with one hand as his brain seemed to be growing against the inside of his skull. He squeezed his eyes shut for a few moments, opening them quickly when he felt hands on his belt. Spreading the fingers on his face, Ja'keth glanced down at the young woman.

"Look either hurry up and start choking on it or cut the shit. I'm not the type for games." Not at work anyway.

Knocking her hands away Ja'keth stepped back slightly.

"Boss, I'll be outside. Hurry up and finish here."

The mood in the room changed completely. Having previously been stale with a hint of sexual tension, it now became dark. A growing rage swam around them, trying to infect Ja'keth.

"Sorry?" the elven girl whined in a high, threatening voice.

It was then that Da'veth came though, snapping out of his daze. "Knock her out, Ja'keth! Do it! I lost her! Knock her out knockheroutNOW!"

Ja'keth turned to face Da'veth with sheer confusion. "What're you talking about? You want me to knock her out? You told me we were here to talk not beat up some gi-"

He spun around, a heavy wooden baton in his hand. Whirrling while mid sentence, Ja'keth swung the weapon like a whip, aiming to crash the baton against the side of the young woman's temple.

The woman fell like a ton of bricks.

Da'veth heaved a pained sigh and got to his feet. "Good-" He patted Ja'keth on the shoulder, "...good job. I didn't know what we were getting into, not really." He shook his head and rubbed his hands over his face, letting out a deep groan. "Gods have mercy. That was the most pain I think I've experienced in a while. That took almost everything." He peeked out from his fingers to eye Ja'keth. "She tried to anchor onto you. Did you know that? I had to bombard her with every desire and control I could possibly find just to distract her!"

Sat on a low hanging oak branch was an elven woman. She was clad in a long green cloak, a very common piece of apparel for forest elves and rangers. Beneath it she had on a leather jerkin and thick breeches.

The air was chilly, and getting more frigid still as a cold front moved in. The woman adjusted the thick scarf around her neck, and pulled the cloak more tightly around herself. Her pale hands were cold to the rest of her skin. She could barely see the sky, but what she could see was covered in clouds that whispered of freezing rain.

Crackling was one of the more prominent sounds within the thick of the woods, which was eerily quiet, even for the morning. Within her fingers, the elf was toying with a white wrapper. Within it was a piece of rice candy, which she plopped quickly into her mouth, then disposed of the wrapper in a pouch upon her hip. She kicked her feet, almost impatiently, as she slipped her fingers through her ash blonde hair.
