Jane Agatha Quin

A slight and blind woman who could hardly make a sound coming into the room. Her clothes are shabby, dark and out dated.

0 · 185 views · located in The Maw

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Coloratura, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Race: Rather pale caucasion.
Accent: Proper victorian english.
Expression: Forlorn.
Eyes: Ebony.
Disablility: Blindness and fraility.

Jane's looks are plain, she is slender, almost gaunt and her hair is a deep ashy brown with rolling though unkempt waves.
Her face is sharp though not terriblely so and her vacant blind eyes are black as coal,
with a frown usually etched in her full soft pink lips on a face pale as alabaster marble.
Her clothing is plain for her own era and is usually muddy dark colors with little embellishment.
Jane looks only seventeen or eighteen but acts with the word weary nature of an old woman.
She is usually dressed in a black cotton dress as would have been worn by a young maid servant or governess during the 1800s.
Her dark eyes hold anguish and her gaze is austere.

Image

Personality

She tries to have good posture but often looks wilted as if the world presses down upon her, mostly because of her life as a pauper then a widow and what she is now.
When meeting someone new she does not bow to them as an equal despite her former life as a chambermaid or governess.
As she feels if she is of equal wit to them she must not need to though
she does show the proper respect to men for her era as she still adheres to the proper behavior of the 1800s.
Her speech is refined and her manner is well though occasionally a bit of a cockney accent due to her time on the streets of London. She is aloof without intention and tries not to speak with many people simply looking on as if she were separated by them with some invisible glass barrier due to being treated so differently than others in her formative years because of her social status and her strange situation now.
She enjoys painting something she learned in the girls school she attended a time ago, she is quite good at it though rarely is able to.

Equipment

She wears a pewter locket about he neck if not wearing a cross necklace,
the locket contains an petal from a rose given to her by somebody that is long dead.

History

She is lost in this modern age which is not her own, hailing from the early 1800s,
born in 1791 died in 1816, the year without a summer.
Jane is not of this world having died at merely 17 a bitter widow working as a governess ,
having been married to a stern Prodestant clergyman at the age of merely 14 who died at 34.
Her life before marriage was spent as the child of parents as destitute as she would be,
Her father was a failing cobbler and her mother a house wife as only was fitting.
She did housework for wealthier families in London from age six,
making paltry amounts for tiny chores until she was old enough to do much better and more work.
Her parents died in 1799 but she had a saving grace to save her from the streets for a short time.
A mysterious benefactor who liked her looks and would soon become her husband paid tuition for her
to go to school to study all accomplishments and proper manners for a young lady of the time and religion of course.
She married at fourteen as previously stated and when her husband died he donated his small fortune to the Prodestant church of course, he had never liked the wayward demeanor of his little wife anyway. She became a destitute vagabond who refused to sell herself on the streets though was to wretched to be taken as a maid. She did a few odd jobs though wound up on the street no less, in one bitter winter she died of hypothermia and starvation a blessed release for this poor woman.
Only to be awoken and restored to her original state by a curious necromancer who chose her to rise as he liked her name and the time she came from. The necromancer made a slight mistake when brining her back and did not return her with eyesight. She now does not look dead simply ghostly pale, other than that she looks same as she always had and lives in a towering stone estate with the man who raised her and claimed her as subordinate. She is allowed to leave but he can take control of her mind and body at any moment he pleases, he is less a child or companion to him rather than a tool or subject to study.

Jane Agatha Quin opened the door with a small movement of her hand and moved into the room, blinking a few times being shocked from the bright electric lights. Her skin was frightfully pale and figure slight as a rail. She seemed like she wished not to walk on, looking sickly though she did none the less almost as if propelled by some other force. She walked up to the bar and addressed the robotic bartender seeming frightened of the steel made man her voice was feminine yet low and world weary "Excuse me..An order for Mr. Ashdown was placed for pick up delivery the other week...The imported crate of vintage red...I've got the check with me here sir." She spoke only after giving it a quick and almost unwilling curtsey, her head always bowed and her seemingly long brown hair tucked into a neat bun with a few stray whisps to frame her face.

Jane Agatha Quin turned her head to Trias being a little taken aback by the man being covered in bandages though she nodded with gusto "My apologies ..Thank you graciously sir." She simply thought of apologizing as she had burdened him with her ignorance or that was how she would have put it. Though her manner to him was cold and even the slightest bit haughty as she took him for an uneducated swordsman and a man who probably has an easier life than she has. Suddenly her ebony eyes shut tight as if she was suffering an awful head pain and she held the sides of her face as if she'd gone raving mad but this lasted only a few seconds and she was back to normal only whispering "Yes m'lord.." to nothing but the thin air before her and then sliding the check into the machine slot.

Jane Agatha Quin curtsied to him quickly though did not hold out a hand to kiss as that mannerism was strictly for the more well off ladies of her time and frankly she'd never liked that custom in the least. The woman's gaze was steady though eerie and it seemed something pained lurked behind those coal black eyes. She tucked a loose strand of deep brown hair behind a pale ear and gave him the smallest though somber smile. "My name Is Jane.." She trailed off for a moment seeming caught in some dream then snapped out of her repose and continued "Jane Agatha Quin of Ashdown manor..Regretfully. " As she spoke the last word she looked to be hurting in her head once more and whispered lightly "Great deep apologies for the slip of the tonuge m' lord." Though the whisper was not directed at Trias. She adjusted the folds of her cotton day dress, one could see numerous white petticoats just barely peeking from the low hem of her deep green almost black dress that looked rather plain and dingy for its time, around 1816.

Jane Agatha Quin looked surprised by this and embarrassed..She did not expect him to notice actually she did not seem to know she had spoken at all really "Sir?" was all she said in her whispery voice though submissive voice. She seemed in ill spirits or her demeanor was simply a gloomy one. She studied him a moment and awaited his explanation for the question with pale hands folded modestly at her side, looking frail as a reed.

Jane Agatha Quin shook her head a bitterly as if insulted "I can judge you're character for myself sir..Pardon me but I guessed as much." The robot handed her the large and heavy package with she struggled to hold and almost dropped it after this she breathed a little victorian type curse "Oh Dash it all!...Be careful Jane." The first voice was her own though the other sounded different and darker more like one that was guiding the wraith like woman. She looked sick and pained abruptly and almost swoon though catching her own self and the package.

Jane Agatha Quin glared down at him her black eyes shining will melancholy or rage feeling he was speaking to her in a rather mocking way. She took the box from his balance with a great force then adjusting the plain dark brown bonnet she wore, it was not finely sewn nor embellished but it served as all her clothing the good purpose of showing the time she hailed from, though unbeknownst to her. Her tone was sharp and hard hearted but quiet non the less "I beg you're pardon sir but no one is my superior..They may hold my body subordinate but my mind possesses wit to match any others and they sha'nt hold it captive."

Jane Agatha Quin seemed to sigh but one could scarcely be certain wether she really took in a breath and let it out at all. She seemed puzzled by his kind offer but her expression hardened once more and her voice was faint though assertive "I should not need it sir..I may be plain and obscure but I can get on just fine with my work..." She seemed to take in his features for a moment, her black eyes scanning his face a moment and a look of pining after something crossed her countenance and it seemed to make her desperately miserable and ever more sickly and pale.

Jane Agatha Quin swooned just a bit almost falling faint but steadying herself once more, she moved as one who was graceful and even strong though burdened with some strange terminal illness. She pursed her scarlet lips at him looking with narrow coal black eyes her voice was soft and cold "I beg your pardon sir..But why should you so rapidly assume I need help from you of all sorts?" She clasped her small hands around the package as she neared the door with a worried look.

Jane Agatha Quin looked at Trias perplexed and opened her mouth to speak but just as she did a chilling breeze came through a window knocking the plain bonnet from her head leaving it dangling by the ribbon from her pale neck. She seemed rather perturbed and re adjusted it with great care though her mind was far from the room she occupied. Looking at Trias once more she appeared to have forgotten his words simply clutching her pewter locket and whispering "You have strange eyes.." It would not have been clear whether or not it was to him or herself.

Jane Agatha Quin looked like something was haunting her mind and her black eyes were glassy. She stepped back a bit feeling things would turn out in a grave manner if she did not leave soon. Though she seemed reluctant as she pondered the demeanor of the man before her, the ghostly womans voice was a bit shaken as she spoke and then bit her lip "You must miss her...Being my strings..? I did not ask..It was an observation."

Jane Agatha Quin nodded slightly "I said you were a queer thing yes..You're eyes rather ensnare me though..Reminds me of someone from a long time ago." She lowered her head mournfully "He died of liver failure that turned his eyes yellow." Her gaze rarely left his and there was something odd about the melancholy black eyed woman, even though light was cast on her in dim surroundings she did not cast a shadow.

Jane Agatha Quin smiled for the first time that evening though it was little and she still looked frail and breakable as a reed though her stance was one of defiance. She seemed to be fighting internally with something before that and her smile might have been due to the man before her of a small victory, one could never tell with Jane. She spoke with a silvery voice like a breeze running the the branches of a tree "Oh that was many years ago..It sha'nt be something to shed tears over now...My shadow? I suppose I do not cast one because i'm not truly ment to be in this world..Pherhaps it's laws do not always apply to me." This is something she would have never betrayed to anyone and her master would not allow it either, though that might be the fact she seemed to struggle within herself and it would show a great will for a dead woman.

Jane Agatha Quin nodded taking off her bonnet as she felt awkward standing in a such a futuristic place and none of the other woman who frequented it had to cover there hair. As soon as she reached up her other hand to do so she dropped the large package with shriek, not of terror for the loud noise it made but for fright of her certain punishment not that death could scare her but there are worse things in the world and she knew it. The box crashed down shattering each bottle and the red liquid began pouring out. She woman knelt to gather it with an eerie speed as she tried to gather everything up.

Jane Agatha Quin looked at him right in the eye and seemed genuinely shocked and frightend for the first time she broke her proper and cold repose and reached out a pale wine colored hand to touch his face, her hand would have been like icy and the wine on it would look like blood to any one who did not know the situation. Her voice was one of sad great emotion "You're fault ..No it was my own foolish chattering....Now he'll never let me free of this curse...If that is to be my punishment...These were very expensive you see."

Jane Agatha Quin sat there in a great stupor, she did not understand why a total stranger would do such a thing. She seemed to be at a loss for words and stumbled over her sentence "B..B-But why?" Her coffee brown hair had fallen from its casement to tumble down to her corsetted waist and the red liquid was splattered across her dark frock though she didn't seem to notice. Staring up at him with her mouth agape and black eyes wide.

Jane Agatha Quin let her mouth be closed where she would have usually swatted his hand away with some angry utterance. She now looked a bit less looming and a great deal more helpless but she tried to remain her willful self by picking herself up. She now looked so confused and did not know what to make of him so her tone returned to its aloof state "Thank you sir..But why help me? Don't you understand by now i'm not really a person anymore?..I am cursed from my grave to wander an instrument being bent to the will of another..Why care about my suffering?"

Jane Agatha Quin seems weak with the shock of it all and lets him help her, she collapses into the chair languidly. "If you truly seek atonement for something maybe you can help me further.." She felt awfully rude asking this question and stopped a moment though couldn't help continuing "You seem unnatural, do you know any thing about magic?"

Jane Agatha Quin finds his gaze more comforting than unnerving as she might have usually and in the light wearing a smile her face looked more pretty and less like a walking corpse or terminal hospital patient. "I seek someone who is as trained in magical arts as.." She grit her teeth in anger to say this "My master.." Making the motion of a sigh after but not taking or releasing any air "To seek me free from the curse...And then permit me to kill myself as suicide would then be the best option for me."

Jane Agatha Quin folded her hands and spoke in a very straight forward manner "Yes..There is naught a thing left for me on this world I am chained to and in this time..My soul is restless as I am ment to be sleeping in the grave yet I am not and it conflicts and torments me daily. There would be nobody all my relatives are gone...They died even before me and never liked me much any way. " The wraith like woman obviously feels completely alone and without a kindred one in this plane of existence save for a rather cruel Necromancer, she closed her eyes seeming resigned and touched her white neck were a crucifix used to be and murmured "Heaven does not exist you know..It is only dark sleep and you hardly know it but you're being eaten by maggots..."

Jane Agatha Quin shook her head rapidly with closed eyes still and her voice was full of tension "We are only a small bit similar if at all...You have not lived a life of anguish and found relief in death only to be risen...If you could have left it all for quiet nothing wouldn't 'ow 'ave? " Looked embarrassed as she slipped into her victorian cockney dialect and collected her thoughts before speaking again. "Moreover..It is not in my hands until I am freed.."

Jane Agatha Quin sensed all the other voices in the room as she tried to get the robot to accept her request. She sighed after her repeated attempts to speak to it were met with some technical jargon. Tapping her cane over in the direction of Cresentia the blind woman spoke softly after a low curtsey "Excuse me madam, Are you familiar with the robots here?"

Jane Agatha Quin didn't understand how to work the robotics there and she looked a bit distressed or at least lost in the crowded bar. She heard the small sounds that the fairy made at least by moving, she seemed to think there was a small animal on the bar, as she was blind and unable to see it. Cooing softly she looked in the general direction of Flurr "Aw..Hello dear. Are you a squirrel or some thing how did you get in here?"
