Jane Agatha Quin

A slight and blind woman who could hardly make a sound coming into the room. Her clothes are shabby, dark and out dated.

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Coloratura, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Race: Rather pale caucasion.
Accent: Proper victorian english.
Expression: Forlorn.
Eyes: Ebony.
Disablility: Blindness and fraility.

Jane's looks are plain, she is slender, almost gaunt and her hair is a deep ashy brown with rolling though unkempt waves.
Her face is sharp though not terriblely so and her vacant blind eyes are black as coal,
with a frown usually etched in her full soft pink lips on a face pale as alabaster marble.
Her clothing is plain for her own era and is usually muddy dark colors with little embellishment.
Jane looks only seventeen or eighteen but acts with the word weary nature of an old woman.
She is usually dressed in a black cotton dress as would have been worn by a young maid servant or governess during the 1800s.
Her dark eyes hold anguish and her gaze is austere.

Image

Personality

She tries to have good posture but often looks wilted as if the world presses down upon her, mostly because of her life as a pauper then a widow and what she is now.
When meeting someone new she does not bow to them as an equal despite her former life as a chambermaid or governess.
As she feels if she is of equal wit to them she must not need to though
she does show the proper respect to men for her era as she still adheres to the proper behavior of the 1800s.
Her speech is refined and her manner is well though occasionally a bit of a cockney accent due to her time on the streets of London. She is aloof without intention and tries not to speak with many people simply looking on as if she were separated by them with some invisible glass barrier due to being treated so differently than others in her formative years because of her social status and her strange situation now.
She enjoys painting something she learned in the girls school she attended a time ago, she is quite good at it though rarely is able to.

Equipment

She wears a pewter locket about he neck if not wearing a cross necklace,
the locket contains an petal from a rose given to her by somebody that is long dead.

History

She is lost in this modern age which is not her own, hailing from the early 1800s,
born in 1791 died in 1816, the year without a summer.
Jane is not of this world having died at merely 17 a bitter widow working as a governess ,
having been married to a stern Prodestant clergyman at the age of merely 14 who died at 34.
Her life before marriage was spent as the child of parents as destitute as she would be,
Her father was a failing cobbler and her mother a house wife as only was fitting.
She did housework for wealthier families in London from age six,
making paltry amounts for tiny chores until she was old enough to do much better and more work.
Her parents died in 1799 but she had a saving grace to save her from the streets for a short time.
A mysterious benefactor who liked her looks and would soon become her husband paid tuition for her
to go to school to study all accomplishments and proper manners for a young lady of the time and religion of course.
She married at fourteen as previously stated and when her husband died he donated his small fortune to the Prodestant church of course, he had never liked the wayward demeanor of his little wife anyway. She became a destitute vagabond who refused to sell herself on the streets though was to wretched to be taken as a maid. She did a few odd jobs though wound up on the street no less, in one bitter winter she died of hypothermia and starvation a blessed release for this poor woman.
Only to be awoken and restored to her original state by a curious necromancer who chose her to rise as he liked her name and the time she came from. The necromancer made a slight mistake when brining her back and did not return her with eyesight. She now does not look dead simply ghostly pale, other than that she looks same as she always had and lives in a towering stone estate with the man who raised her and claimed her as subordinate. She is allowed to leave but he can take control of her mind and body at any moment he pleases, he is less a child or companion to him rather than a tool or subject to study.

Jane Agatha Quin heard the commotion and perked up looking worried "My heavens, something going on here?" She was becoming more frightened now, her world was that of a blind woman complete darkness so it was more alarming for her hearing the fight. She gripped the bar for support and tried to place the sound.

Jane Agatha Quin looked hurt for a moment bowing her head but then she brightend and curtsied to Fate with a smile "It's alright i'm sure it would be a common mistake...A fairy? I've never seen one before but Wing City is a strange place. My name is Jane Agatha Quin, you are?" Her voice was soft, silvery and almost a whisper. Her coal black eyes were vacant shining in the light and her skin was ghostly pale. She heard more of the fighting and her face turned grim.

Jane Agatha Quin seemed awfully frightened of the brawl and frail as a reed she stepped back whiping her head left and right rapidly still try her best to find out were the sound was coming from "There's a bar fight going on..?" This was only made a question because she would feel awfully silly if her hearing was going bad too. She flinched at his touch as she had not known how near he was and honestly even being touched frightened her, the girl looked so young but her past had to be dark as she wore a world weary countenance in her expression and deamenor.

Jane Agatha Quin opened the door with a small movement of her hand and stepped into the room her pale skin seeming to glow in the bright electric light. Her eyes were closed and she had a black cane tapping on the floor, obviously blind. Her skin was frightfully pale and figure slight as a rail. She seemed like she wished not to walk on, looking sickly though she did none the less almost as if propelled by some other force. Her clothing was plain a long black dress befitting a governess or school mistress of the 19th century, her collar was white without ruffles. Her voice was dark and world weary though not unfeminine "Good evening..." She spoke to the robot only after giving it a quick and almost unwilling curtsey seeming to think it was a person as she was blind though only sensed the presence, her head always bowed and her seemingly long coffee brown hair tucked into a neat bun with a few stray wisps to frame her face. She looked young maybe twenty but her air was that of an old pauper woman.

Jane Agatha Quin flinched at his remark for sake not knowing there was another near though she was curious about his accent not having the funds to travel avidly and truly not being able to in any sense. She could not see him but if she could she might marvel on his clothing, the blind woman was neat and tidy though she dressed as if they were in the victorian era, no elaborate gown simply a black cotton day dress that a school mistress or scullery maid would be seen in. She turned and curtsied to the man, just hoping she was facing the right way though her hearing was very good and helpful in her state. Her curtsey was not a formal one of a noble woman but a more reserved bow that a woman with more dignity and less grace would perform. Her voice was dusky and dark but it did have a certain haunting charm "Oh hello..Pardon me but no I live in a place not so far away.." She paused and seemed to reflect on this statement and simply mused "Yet it is.."

Jane Agatha Quin turned her face to Xander Gray she was not alarmed thinking he was completely human, in fact if she were not blind she might be going mad this very moment from the shock of all the electric lights and modern technology. Though she seemed perfectly at home, smoothing down the folds of her long plain ebony gown and shifting her weight so the corset on the inside of her day dress would not cause her any more discomfort than usual. She curtsied quickly but low to Xander and gave him a soft smile, her coal black eyes still looking worn as ever "Oh hello..You tend to this Tavern, M'lord?" She did not address him as such thinking he was of noble birth, simply being a servant for a great hall brought about this habit. Then turning back to Kazuo looking rather tranquil though inquisitive as she cocked her head to the side "Prosthetics..? I beg you're pardon m'lord but I do not believe I know the word."

Jane Agatha Quin eyes did not follow his hands they were a cloudy black, some times unblinking which could have been unnerving to some. Though she looked horrified at his explanation of prosthetics and shuddered "Sounds awfully unsafe and unsanitary..I could never do it." Jane came from a time where pain killers had not quite been invented or at least were not in there prime and most surgeries ended with infection or death so it would have been normal for her to shy away from this idea. She sighed at his other question slightly though it scarcely could be seen wether she drew breath at all "Hm..Just recently to tell the truth." She would not have told the whole truth about her loss of sight by any means as she had good reasons to fear this.

Jane Agatha Quin gasped at this looking in such shock and awe though full of admiration "You thought it painless, Why you must have the heart of a lion!" Of course in her day when one lost a limb it was usually sawed off then cauterized with fire to seal it, it was rumored there had been heart attacks just from the pain. She clasped her hands and looked at him with new respect though stopped a moment thinking it through to wonder if he was lying or not as she could analyze tones well but did not believe her ears.

Jane Agatha Quin blinked utterly bewildered she had only heard the foreign language shouted and not seen the mans intimidating form so she was not terribly alarmed though confused her voice was softer now, barely a whisper "Was it one of you're men that addressed to you?...Pain killers?" She sounded the last word out seeming confused, her hands grasped the bar counter almost for support.

Jane Agatha Quin blinked her coal black eyes for the first time in about twenty minutes, just a bit eerie though she was blind, She did not seem to understand the names of the medication she used and was wary about trusting him though she spoke too curious not to ask "It could..For how long?"

Jane Agatha Quin would have given him fair warning of her impending reaction has she known what she was in for, she allowed him to shine the lights in her wide long lashed eyes, her black eyes might of look like a dark abyss with that light shining into them. She blinked a few times, expecting of course to see the image of a bar in her own time, she expected candlelight and a long oak table or some thing of that nature. When things came into focus she stared for a moment, then let out a shrill and audible scream putting the back of her hand on her alabaster white forehead and swooning against the bar. Then her lips moved and she seemed to be praying or speaking to herself though it could hardly be made out she seemed to be telling herself it was all a dream.

Jane Agatha Quin 's vision was fading but she did sweep the room with her eyes quickly, after five minutes of clear vision things got blurry again and she became much more calm though still anxiously alarmed and confused. Actually she looked horrified into a stupor though she did whisper while stumbling over her words "Wha..Wha..?" She was pointing up at the electric lighting and then down to a touch screen menu and after that forcefully gesturing to a robot server.

Jane Agatha Quin nodded wearily "Eighteen sixteen, The year without a summer.." the woman looked less dignified and much more meek though she tried to muster what courage she had and speak so she could be heard. Jane looked unsure of her words but it was the last date she had seen and that was all the world she knew.

Jane Agatha Quin began to get a splitting headache thoughts were rushing and buzzing through her head like accelerated clockwork, she also did not understand some of his words pertaining to the current era so she was even more bewildered. Her voice was a pained groan "I'm losing my mind.." A bit of her dark cotton frock was crumpled up in her small ivory hands, she was extremely distressed. Jane was blind once more and this actually seemed to comfort her though her jaw was still agape in awe.

Jane Agatha Quin pondered a moment, her last memories of sight were so distant it was hard to picture them but with enough thought the pre victorian streets of London were crystal clear in her mind her voice was shaking but it remained steady enough for her to be understandable "I remember...The grain shipments were not coming in well as there had been frosts in july and much erratic weather...I could not get a job as a house maid or governess not even a mistress for a village school as there was much famine and the economy was having the worst streak i'd ever seen. I was left to the streets, bereft in my poverty...I remember the coldest hungriest night shivering and floating in and out of consciousness..Then darkness, like I could have died." She tucked a stray strand of nut brown hair back into her plain but tidy bun seeming a bit more collected now.

Jane Agatha Quin nodded slowly but she thought this over for a moment and shook her head "No..I woke up to blackness but there was a voice.." She put a hand to her ivory chin trying to remember why she had even come to the bar though upon her realization she looked shaken and distressed once more, sitting up then standing abruptly. She mumbled to herself "There was a lot of supernatural things happening then...Due to Benjamin Franklin and his experiments with electricity, No doubt. "

Jane Agatha Quin looked about for the one who had tugged at her skirts, but what was the use she was blind. The haggard woman looked fornlorn and made little attempt to find or stop the child. She was too used to people doing things like that to her this was just another curious child in her mind, she walked across the room hands out stretched each moment she was not tapping her cane to find her way, she located a chair a sunk into it looking world weary, she was thin too thin even gaunt. She mused to herself "Tonight is any other night....Children bothering old blind women." She spoke as if the child did not anger or offend her simply reaffirmed her place in soceity, though it was odd she spoke of herself as an old woman, she looked only twenty.

Jane Agatha Quin didn't attempt to stop the young vampire, she was resigned to most anything, she sat still as a statue her glassy black eyes staring straight ahead vacantly like orbs leading to some abyssal place. She made one single move after at least ten minutes, to clasp her pale spindlely hands together in her lap atop the black cottom fabric that made up her dress and cloak. Her voice was airy and weak as if in some perpetual state of illness "Boys will be boys.."

Jane Agatha Quin let her face turn languidly over to the direction of The Wandr'er, she could feel some one looking at her, through no special powers but simply a blind humans increased intuition. She was indeed frail as a reed or drying plant and she looked forlorn, her doe black eyes holding no luster or shine. Jane seemed to wish to hold herself in good poise but her posture was that of a wilting flower, straight but seeming as though some other wordly force could send it plummeting at any moment.
