Jorge was in the back, behind the cars and motorcycles with a rather well made Hover-bike. With hover vehicles becoming popular within the upper class of Wing City, Uncle Al's repair service had hired Jorge to see to the repairs of various engine bits, and wiring.

"Ach, damn." He said, drawing his hand back quickly from the hot sparks that came from the wires. He needed his screwdriver, and he searched on the table nearby. "Wha- oh, it's back up by the Chevy." He said, leaning over and looking past the hover-bike. He opened his mouth to tell the kid to scram, but decided not to. Maybe he'd want to help. Maybe he was interested in the cars like Jorge had been when he was young.

"Hey, little man, could you grab my screwdriver? It's right next to that Chevy!" He shouted up to him, pointing at the sleek black Chevrolet striker 20XX. The screwdriver sat on the floor next to the front tire of the car, in a puddle of water that was dripping from the faulty piping on the ceiling.

Jorge grinned at him, "Man, as long as you don't punch out any windows are slash any tires then you're fine." He said, taking the screwdriver from the boy. He screwed in a shiny new screw where one had fallen out, and placed the screwdriver back on the table. He then glanced back to the kid, "You.. want to help me, man?" He asked, grinning at him. He'd let the kid tape a wire in or unscrew something if he wanted.

"Just make sure you don't touch any of the blue lights." He added, glancing to the open panels on the hover bike. "Or would you rather me just show you how some stuff works?" He asked, leaning against one of the tables.

Jorge grinned widely, "This is owned by a man named Luke Barric. I've never met him, but he's good friends with my boss so I fix it for no charge." He said, writing some details of his repairs onto a piece of paper. He laid the pencil down, and tossed some grey tape to the kid. He then motioned for the boy to step back so he could lower the hover-bike to ground level.

"What's your name, buddy?" He asked, kneeling slightly.

"Well, Calem, my name is Jorge and you need to listen really closely to what I'm about to tell you." He said, smiling lightly. "There are some grey wires that I'm going to show you and you need tot ape those down really well, alright? But near those wires are some little blue lights. Don't touch those lights, Calem. Alright?" He asked, standing up.

He went over to the hover bike, and opened a small hatch. Inside were the wires, and the blue holes. Inside was the engine core which was constantly powered even when the bikes were off. It needed the holes to vent itself constantly and if it was covered or tampered with then the energy would arch into whatever had messed with it. This wouldn't cause death, but it would definitely hurt.

Jorge grinned as the kid put the tape on the wires, "Good job buddy." He said, patting the kid on the head. He knelt back down to examine it, and he flashed the boy a thumbs up. "Nice work, Calem, you lined it up nicely." He added, closing the panel and beginning to screw it back closed.

"Say, what brings you downtown? Your parents nearby or something?" He asked, glancing out past the cars. If the kids parents were out there then they could be worried sick. Jorge wasn't a parent, but he'd lost something precious before, and he guess it'd be a magnitude or two worse to lose a child.

Jorge continued working while Calem talked, and froze in the middle of polishing the chassis of the bike to look at the boy. "Wow, man, that's... uh.... That's rough." He said, scratching the back of his neck. Jorge had been raised in a fine family, with a mother and a father and a dog who was named Tyger because that's how Jorge had spelled it when he was a child. He couldn't really identify with the kid's feelings, but he could see that the boy didn't like talking about it.

"Well, uh, you really seemed to like taping up those wires. I have another job for you, if you're up to it." He said, standing and wiping his hands on a white t-shirt that he used as a big rag.

Jorge raised an eyebrow, "You did a pretty good job with the wires, so I think this D guy is pretty wrong." He chuckled, leaning over a table and filling out a form. He stuffed it into a little canister, and turned around. The mechanic smiled, "So, you want to help or not?" He asked, holding out the canister.

"If you do, take this little canister and put it in that hole over there," He pointed to a hole in a clear tube that lead up to the second floor, "And then press that blue button." He finished, pointing to the big blue button on the wall next to the piping.

"You got it, pal." He said, watching carefully. As Calem pressed the button, a powerful suction would pull the canister up the tube and to the second floor.

"Good job." He said, grinning. The blue button would turn green as the person on the second floor removed the canister from their side of the pipe. "That's all I need to do today." He said, taking a seat on a rusty metal folding chair that was behind the desk he'd been using to write on.

Jorge smiled at him, Calem reminded him of himself when he was a kid. "Alright, buddy. Why don't you come by around lunchtime tomorrow? I'll probably have more stuff for you to do." He said, checking his watch and looking at the clock above the garage door. Lunch was the busiest time of the day. Most people brought their cars in and went to eat somewhere and then come to pick it up afterwords.

He reached into his pocket to grab a cigarette, but froze and then withdrew his hand. He didn't want to smoke around a kid.

Jorge chuckled while Calem talked about how excited he was to fix things. Maybe he'd let Calem screw in some bolts or tighten something if he wanted. Or he could show him how an engine works. It'd probably be easier to show him how an older engine works because with all of the new stuff put into hover engines it can be dangerous just touching the engine panel.

"I bet they will." He said, adjusting the dial on the radio that had been playing old classic rock the whole time. It sputtered, and then went to static, and Jorge quickly turned it off. Terra didn't have many radio stations, and the ones they did have were terribly staffed and taken care of.

Jorge shook his head, "I don't have any kids, no, but I have a friend that comes in on weekends named Vik and he helps me." He said, smiling. He'd had a girlfriend once and when h=things got pretty serious she got shot in a shootout in a place downtown called Gambit's Bar. He hadn't brought himself to go in there yet. Was that the bar the Calem lived in? Must be a little safer if kids are staying there.

He laced his fingers together, and leaned on the desk, "Trust me, Calem, you don't want to live here, a lot of mean people come here at night and it gets scary sometimes." He said, making his eyes wide.

Jorge shook his head, "Nah, I don't even live here. I live in an apartment on mainstreet. The power there isn't very reliable, but even that's better than being here with the leaky water and the broken P.A. system.

"Trust me, and besides, you've got a family that you've got to be with, even if you don't like them." He added, smiling. He was sure the boy was exaggerating a little when he spoke of his father and this D person.

Jorge cocked his head slightly, "I'm sorry Calem, but you've got to go home." He said, a hint of sadness in his voice. He'd seen some movies where kids had bad parents, but he'd never really expected anyone to be so mean to their kids.

Jorge sighed softly, and shook his head. "I'm sorry, buddy."

Jorge smiled as the boy stopped asking to say and said his goodbye. "I'll see you tomorrow, buddy." After the boy left, Jorge filled out a few more pages detailing all of the repairs he did, and put them in the filing cabinet under his desk. After he'd finished he lit a cigarette, and closed the garage door.

As he approached the red door to exit he glanced over at the broken window. "Gah, I'll need to call someone about that tomorrow." He said, frowning. The mechanic exited the door, and locked it. After he did so, he gave it a jiggle to make sure he had locked it thoroughly. "Well Jorge, another day, another dime, I suppose." He chuckled, walking off towards the Main Street.

Inside the shop were several vintage cars. A Kia Soul, and a few different Chevies. In the back sat a glimmering silver hover bike. It looked like it had been recently waxed and cleaned.

"Hey, sorry about that." Jorge shouted, crawling out from under the bike. He took off his hat, and walked up the the counter. He held out his hand for him to shake, but quickly withdrew it to wipe it off and offer it again.

"The name's Jorge, you need something fixed? Big Al is the best in vintage auto repairs, and new hover models." He said, beaming with pride. He loved doing this stuff, "We also specialize in transferring vintage vehicle systems to newer hover models.

The lights flickered. Big Al's was under a faulty power line that the city had been neglecting to repair. Al had asked Jorge to fix it this morning. After this guy stated what he needed, Jorge would have to go out there and see to fixing the wire.

Jorge grinned, and opened up a drawer. He pulled out a white towel, and tossed a white towel to Myles. "Good to meet you Myles, do you want some history of the place, or do you just want me to tell you the work we do?" He asked, leaning on the counter.

A man in a white day suit walked down from teh upper floor, "See you Jorge, see to this man before you lock up. Sorry if you were here to see me, sir, I have pressing business." The man left quickly, and Jorge turned back to Myles.

"That was Mr. Al, A.K.A. Big Al."

Jorge chuckled, "Albert Roberts founded this shop twenty years ago. He mostly fixed vintage cars with his brother Jonathan Roberts." He said, opening the small door and gesturing him into the shop. He'd let him look around while he told the history.

"Jonathan was killed in a hover-bike accident, and Al decided to start hover repairs to make sure a faulty part doesn't take the lives of anyone else's loved ones." He said, leaning against the tool crate. He had been hired to do the hover repairs. "That's about it. You're caught upon Big Al's history."

Jorge walked over, and patted the bike, "This here is an LM-Granger hover-bike, recreational model." He said, smiling, "It has a servo-disk malfunction. The engine could easily overload if I don't get it repaired. It takes about a day or two to fix it up." He said, pointing to a metal work tray.

Inside the trey was a silver and blue disk with a hairline crack in it. A few large metal tools next to it.

Jorge grinned, "Happily." He said, showing him a little chart. He pointed to different parts as he mentioned them.

"Well, the servo-disk spins inside the motor. The spinning creates electricity which is then transferred to some pretty powerful magnetism. This propels the bike away from the ground and the air simultaneously. The steering mechanism here," He placed his hand on the handlebars, "functions almost like a bike to turn the motor."

He raised an eyebrow, "Any questions?"
