With a smile he responded to both matters, though not for long on the latter, instead preferring to take the stoic route, knowing that the woman whose hand he hoped to win did such a thing, and quite often. "You would, in a sense, as all service men and women do. To defend our Hegemony against the endless night is a supreme honor, each soul within will speak volumes for your quality in the hereafter." He could tell that such a remark would likely send Linde into a rather unpleasant mood, and he tried to disarm her as best he could, offering a smile, somewhat different, to the esteemed lady,

"After all, we're all cogs in a machine, right Linde?" He hadn't meant to call her by her familiar name, at least not vocally, it just rolled off the tongue. Damn. That would send these people into a frenzy.

Josef put on a look of light shock, one that, were one observing from outside of the situation, would've possessed a slight mocking quality, though he wore it rather well, drawing back from his host for a moment as his mental gears clicked into place. He paused, thinking, though it didn't take him long as she drew to a close, her emphasis driving his stratagem of this delicate game. "Then, lady Sieglinde, might I beg your forgiveness for my brash act, and ask your permission to do such?"

Josef was glad that he didn't have to deal with the fallout from this situation, thanks be to whatever powers there were that he was emperor.

Again he nudged her, though this time it was her leg proper, and he blinked slowly, taking in the agape expressions present across the table before speaking, "Then, Linde, you may call me Josef." He smiled, "It is only proper, after all." Finally, things were getting somewhere. Perhaps he wouldn't have to fight her to keep her on the world after all.

Josef accompanied the toast, as was proper, raising his glass as well, a feeling of satisfaction settling in on his small victory here. The first step on a long road, no doubt. He simply took a sip of his, however, not wanting to drain the glass as so many of his subjects had done, and set it down with an idle motion. Things were beginning to fall into place...

Kampf continued to speak softly, preferring this to projecting his voice as he usually did, "Oh, that's inevitable." He blinked at the thought, looking back to the chattering masses as he mentally prepared himself, "But, I'm sure there will be a moment or two afterwards without the throngs..."

She was to be the one, that much was sure. She already fit the image of the ideal Scatterran noblewoman, and she was well liked by most and rather amiable. She would make a good matron and Empress. "I can never be too sure, blinded as I am." She had fire in her as well. She didn't lie down for anyone, that much was a necessity -- a good empress wouldn't bow to the first foreigner who dared show their face with some petty might. "I'll just have to keep you nearby to get through the drudgery then, wont I?"

"You need not worry," He said, speaking a little louder with his smile, still playing the role of an affectionate suitor, "It's nothing, and consider it done." He squeezed her hand, slightly, at this, playing it up as much as he could. He knew that Liese held feelings for him, such was part of the reason why he was so pleased that she was absent at the dinner tonight... her infatuation was simply dangerous. However fetching she might be, however, her sister gave her an excellent run for her money, and in much more than simple looks. "A day spent away from the chatter of the nobility would be rather pleasant, as well as away from her prying eyes."

Kampf soon turned to the door, rising from his seat, and with a nod to the two guards flanking the door, he bade her to enter. He returned her salute as she entered, approaching by a stride or two as she spoke, to gain a better look at the young woman before him. He offered her a warm, paternal smile, his boots clicking against the tile as he did, "You look just like her, Thistle."

He had read her dossier, and he knew some of her, but not a terribly detailed swath of information. She had planted herself here in the Hegemony for some time, even before her home had fallen, and such would add an interesting dynamic to their interactions. However, he did speak the truth. One could see Wing in her, and not just in her looks.

Kampf nodded in affirmation to her assessment of her mother and soon turned to glance back to the chairs as she offered thanks to him, something which warranted a curious look to back to her, and he did his best to play it off. "Thistle, it is the least that I can do to repay not only your people's character, but your mother's memory." He paused for a moment after that, before assuming a rather melancholic look, "... I'm most sorry about her."

He sighed, glancing back to the chairs for a moment and gesturing to them with an open hand, "But, shall we? It's been quite a while since I've had the chance to speak with an Erutin."

"Steel, I've read about him." Kampf sighed, doing his best to emulate the feeling of longing, "He's quite valiant. He's a Scharführer now, though I don't think, from the reports, that he's doing very well." It was true, his division had been thrown into the thick of fighting against Erutin insurgents and usurpers, and he was serving his purpose as a bridge quite well. "But, enough of that. Tell me, what do you see for the future of House Erutin?"

He was curious, to be sure, as to what she perceived as their role in the Hegemony. Whether it was in line with his vision or not had yet to be seen.

Kampf smiled, avoiding her gaze for a moment as he mimicked the look of affection, and he waited for a few moments before responding. "The rumors are true, though they might've spread a bit slower were it that I had decided to ask her in a more private environ." He looked to Thistle for a moment before admitting, "I know that must seem odd. Me, courting." That was half of his reasoning. With Scatter in their hands, to have the prophecy of the Matriarch fulfilled would prove most valuable to their war effort.

Inside, a bloom of satisfaction enveloped Kampf's breast, already she was becoming a part of the Belkan machine. It would only be a matter of time before they had the Erutin firmly under their thumb. "I'm glad that she has a good reputation outside of my circles, and she is. I take it you've spoken to Liese on the matter?" Liese could be something of a loose cannon, it would make sense that she would talk to an outsider about such things, without the biased filter to look upon her, in some ways, taboo beliefs.

Curious, that Thistle would know of Redwing's infatuation with him, and such caused Josef to, mentally, smile. She really was becoming part of the great game, "... her feelings? I'm not quite sure I understand Thistle. The Archduchess?" He was wearing a rather confused look, as he was rather keen on doing, playing it off as Liese was the pure knight, chaste in her devotion to her God's safety. "Please, do explain."

Kampf shrugged with a sigh, musing, "Perhaps." Even as incredible a woman as the Archduchess was, he couldn't be with her. She would demand that which was impossible, as he could read it in her face, and her eyes, that she desired such -- a child. "But, what's this talk? A fight? Has Redwing gotten more brash in my absence?" He wouldn't doubt it. She was a rather volatile woman, if anything.

Kampf shook his head again, not feeling the need to answer vocally that he, well, was dead for the last five years. "A fight? Well, that could prove to be quite dreadful, knowing Redwing, and I only know Hope by reputation." He then chuckled and echoed Thistle's sentiment, "Well, I don't think you're alone in that. Liese is prone to somethings so rash that they escape me."

The Emperor of the only civilized corner of the Cluster enjoyed the kiss of the sun on his brow as he looked about from the rear of his vehicle, the top of it having been put down so that their lord could enjoy the pleasant day that had made itself known. So sublime was the faint heat of the star, combined with the refreshing breeze, that he was inclined to remove his peaked cap, as it now sat in the leather seat beside him. Oh! how sometimes he forgot what resources he had at his disposal, paying such a luxury as leather seats so little mind. He still operated in his mind as if things were still the 21st century... if only it were those easy days again! Then there was only the Coalition to challenge them, instead of such hideous monstrosities that haunted the Cluster and his holy empire, though he hoped, if things went according to his plan(as they most usually did) that such a circumstance wouldn't continue for much longer.

And as if leather seats weren't enough, it was a car driven by internal combustion, in the old style as his father had enjoyed. Thoughts of that man dampened Kampf's bright disposition for but a moment as he mentally shuddered, having to turn his eyes to the vast blue sky again to inject better images into his mind, most certainly the Landwächter ships, visible from the ground, did just that to brighten his mood. Hopefully lady Sieglinde wouldn't mind such a trip, as they had agreed that they should meet again on this day, though he hadn't exactly proposed where.

The vehicle, even at its lax pace, made it soon to the Redwing estate, and stepping out on his own, left the vehicle to his LW valet, who waited diligently with it. Checking over his uniform to make sure that all was sharp, he began to stride towards the residence, silently wishing that he wouldn't run into Liese today. She always did tend to favor the office, so he hoped that, perhaps, he might prove fortunate in such an endeavor.

There was no need to knock on the door as it seemed that the servants already knew of his arrival, no doubt thanks both to surveillance of some kind(no doubt thanks to the ever-paranoid commandant) and likely just the overbearing noise that his vehicle had made just getting up to the curb. The door was opened before him, and with a slight bow of his head greeted the servants, whose own bows proved much deeper than his own. With a tender gaze did he impart on them a warm smile as they offered to take his hat, which he freely gave, and thanked them for such a service. He had little time, though, as soon he was bid to come to a sitting room -- unexpected, but not unwelcome. Perhaps her ladyship wasn't prepared yet, and such was understandable. He was early, if only to avoid the piercing and ever-present eyes of her elder sister.

Moving quietly about the generous halls of the place, he admired their abode with silent respect, following behind the middle-aged woman who soon lead him to a rather pleasant place; a room on the first floor, obviously made for entertaining in the afternoon, with a hint of sunlight piercing through the window, almost obscuring the emerald leaves of the tree outside. Taking a seat upon the insistence of the servant, he didn't bother to cross his legs, rather he leaned forward and rested his arms on his knees, eager and curious to see just what it was he was summoned to this room for.

With a glance did Josef look to the door, happy to see that the object of his affection was here, as he presumed that she would be before long, and, not removing his gaze from her, apologized, a smile still present on his face. "Sieglinde, the pleasure is mine, and I would apologize..." At this he did remove his gaze from hers, looking to the floor from the corner of his eye for a moment as he thought on how best to word it, "... my agenda cleared rather quickly, and... if you will excuse me, I couldn't keep myself from your presence any longer." He sighed at this, pleased that she was present now, and with another look to the room at large, turned back to her. His face bore a hint of a sort of innocent curiosity, as he figured that would be best for the situation at hand, as he asked, "Might I ask, why the summons here?"

Kampf's look turned a degree more severe, tinged now with a look divided between hurt and irritability, and as one could tell from his voice, that the latter was pleasant, though not overbearing, "Troubles? I must inquire as to their nature, if they are so grave to deny me the courtship of so wondrous a woman." He, of course, wasn't truly in-the-know for matters regarding the nobility, largely unconcerned with things and had his vast network of Landwächter agents inform him only when matters rose regarding more treasonous or heretical thoughts. Rumors such as these weren't often so high profile. "Such a thought pains me deeply, Sieglinde."

With time his expression softened, somewhat, as he listened to her explanation, though he still harbored, as the undertones of his voice betrayed, some annoyance with the thought that others would dare make such a claim. Not only that Sieglinde would resort to utilizing magic to ensnare him, but to suggest that he was susceptible? That was heresy in and of itself. He moved from his seat closer to her, and offering his hand, he spoke, quietly at first, though it did gain some strength as he went, "... there is nothing to forgive, and such is why I offer you my support." He sighed as he looked to her, and the sight of this beautiful creature reduced to such a miserable state warranted a pang in his heart, "I would rather have no other, Linde."

Lightly was his other hand placed atop hers, his eyes still looking to her own as he kept a straight face, believing that a smile, no matter how pleasant, was warranted in this. Gently his thumb stroked her hand as he tried his best to explain his position, "Quite, Linde, and I would ask that, if only in this matter..." He paused, thinking of the words, "... if it at all possible, to think of me as a man first. I can feel as any other, and love is no foreign feeling to me, at least not in your company." He did speak the truth on earlier occasions, that even in the presence of so fetching a woman as her elder sister, Linde was easily one of the more beautiful women he had ever met, and so well-bred and graceful... a true Scatterran lady.

"... were it in any other matter, lady Sieglinde, I would beg your forgiveness, and I am tempted to now, but I am told to do otherwise." He smiled to her, sorry somewhat that he caused her so much embarrassment. His mind pondered whether she had ever received such displays of affection, or been the benefactor of any young man's admiration... and now, to receive such from, of all people, the Kaiser of the Hegemony? It was something of a jump, he admitted to himself. "Linde, do tell me if they dare speak ill of you again. I believe they might have forgotten who commands the Verhör." He spoke, of course, of one of the 'civilian' branches of the Landwächter, the Hegemony's notorious inquisition. Linde, and by extension her family, had nothing to fear, so long as Kampf was smitten with their youngest daughter.

Such a display did warm him, even if it was interrupted by her dutiful chaperon, who he didn't blame for her action. Likely a precaution from her family, or her sister more likely, and he dismissed it from his mind, eager to see if she would prefer to retire to a more pleasant, natural environment. "It is but my duty, Linde, and to hear such brings such a warmth to my heart!" He didn't raise his voice, but the pitch did indicate a sort of hushed exclamation, smiling as he looked to her, hoping that her gaze wouldn't falter. He did so fancy her, perhaps she'd become accustomed to it. He sighed, however, and put forth a suggestion, "Now, would you still like to go about? I'm sure we could arrange something, my valet still waits outside..."

"Then let us have a hint of spontaneity." His smile brightened again, revealing his teeth somewhat at the thought, "But, I would leave that to the lady's discretion... now I did have my servants pack for a picnic. I'm sure that your sister wouldn't mind if we enjoyed it on the grounds here..." He paused, looking out the window for a moment. It was rather pleasant that some of the houses enjoyed such natural holdings, even while much of the rest of the planet was urban sprawl. At least the atmosphere was still clean, no stain like Rienzi possessed. "... if the suggestion is to your liking."

He returned her expression as best he could while maintaining the look of a stoic noble, even moreso as a God and Liege, but... he had asked her to treat him as a man in this, and as a man he was determined to act. "Oh, quite so, and I have wondered about those Godchildren, such an odd thing..." Given, he knew all about them and their mother, as was his charge to. The dossiers were too important to let pass by, as was the entire Erutin situation. "But, I shall have my valet fetch some light furniture," He spoke as he rose, his hand still resting on hers, "no need to worry your delicate form or elegant dress with sitting on the ground."
