Oh, oh my. That was nearly good as the whole facade following it. To twist him around like this was rather delightful. Kampf, however, took it in stride, his expression changing with the shift in topic as he addressed the issue at hand. Tossing his head back slightly, as well as shifting his feet, he looked to the Duke with rather piercing eyes as he asked, a smile forming on his face, "Thus, I've come to a rather difficult conclusion, that goes against precedents long-established. I would-"

The sentence was interrupted by the rather timely arrival of the lady Sieglinde, who was certainly well-dressed -- as always. "Ah," the Kaiser mused, looking to the new arrival with a softened gaze and a bow of his head. "The lady herself joins us." At this he silently offered her his hand, extending it to her from his position by her father, "If you may, perhaps you would speak with us, Sieglinde?"

Kampf, as usual, took her hand in his own rather gently, folding his thumb over her delicate fingers as he raised it to his lips before returning it to a more natural position between the two. "It would be for naught, I'm afraid. I didn't plan on it just yet." The smile he shared with her faded slightly as he turned back to her father, though he still bore a good deal of formality.

"You are a strict man, Duke, such is good. But..." He made the light insinuation, only his eyes betraying the nature of his words, "perhaps you are too harsh at times." He soon blinked however and the glint was gone, replaced instead by his usual stare, "But, back to matters, Duke Redwing. I would ask, most humbly, for your daughter's hand." Surely this would send him into some sort of fit. The Emperor asking for his daughter? Preposterous!

He had said that there was little precedent for it.

The reaction was rather extreme but understandable. From what he was able to gather the Redwing family neglected their youngest daughter somewhat, and largely didn't expect much out of her but a marriage to better serve their house. Just how well this marriage would serve they certainly had no idea. Judging from the reaction, one could insinuate that their expectations were rather inaccurate; they were lucky that Linde took no offense. Then his words seemed to hit her. Her surprise and reaction did garner an internal chuckle from him, though he didn't let it show, his smile soon growing as he approached her, just a step or two.

"Yes, in marriage." It was rather logical, of course, his choice. Her being of one of the greatest noble houses in the Hegemony, an educated, pious and deft woman, and certainly not the least of all; she was Azrican. Oh yes, the symbolism of the act wasn't lost on Kampf (it was, in fact, what drove the whole plot) and so he continued, "... you would have me, wouldn't you, Linde?"

And with that Josef offered her a kiss of his own, placed on her lips, believing himself finally to be of position to do such a thing. Having held it only for a brief moment he soon pulled back, admitting quietly his own excitement concerning the matter, "Such words do bring me such joy, Linde." He did, however, have to make sure that he didn't step on the now-fainted Duke as he stepped back, not wanting to crowd the future empress. Josef did, however, offer her his hand, suggesting as he did, "If it is to your liking, lady Sieglinde, perhaps we might have a meal whilst the servants attend to your father?"

It amused him to see her face in such a similar state to her attire, though he didn't let it show, putting things up more to the end of him being rather pleased with her acceptance. Which wasn't to say that he was not, but rather just happy that his plan had gone through, even with a slight bump. Allowing her to lead him to the dining room, he walked alongside as best he could, drawing a hint closer than usual. "So this is your home," he mused, "... much more like one than the palace." It, while grand, wasn't anywhere as imperious as his own residence, and thus it was rather logical how he could make such an observation

"Well," He said, speaking softly, despite the lack of any others about, "perhaps you might see to that." He had drawn in a hint closer to say such, though once it had he drew back but a hint, still allowing her to keep at the task at hand. She was a rather beautiful woman, even in this state. There could be none better to take up the mantle of Empress of the Hegemony. The pair would be a true display of Scatterran might and grace.

Kampf was mother, Kampf was father.

So mild-mannered was she! Oh, to think that she would soon be Empress, the 'mother' of the Hegemony... it was perfect. One side was the martial might, the strength, whilst the other emphasized the beauty and culture of their civilization. This would show those xenos and heretics what true power was. All would look upon their land and despair. With such he returned, again only slightly closer so that their arms brushed rather freely, and spoke again, "We are to be married, after all." Such was what married couples did, was it not?

He had spent so much time over the years wandering these halls and learning their nature that, by now, it rather bored him to be about. It was as if it was his own little town to mill about in, so large was his residence. Often times he'd greatly prefer staying around only the rooms which he needed, venturing only occasionally to the library for a meager helping of entertainment. To be sure, he welcomed distractions, going out of his way for them at times, but few would prove as curious as this one.

It seemed that his fiancee had come here, to the palace. To think that she would ever come here of her own volition was rather amazing, at least to the Emperor, and to amaze him was something of a feat. Oh, he had watched her progress for some time, the liege-lord still having some stealth about him, and only recently had he approached within any distance, still hesitating to make contact. There was no reason to as of yet.

Perhaps one would present itself.

Josef cocked an eyebrow in response, listening as her words echoed down the imperious hallway to his ears. Such was just the sort of opportunity that he had hoped would present itself, and thus he approached as quietly as he could manage, preferring to walk along the rug that lined the center of the hallway. "It is a surprise," He announced, projecting his voice once he had closed within only a stone's throw, "to see you here, Linde."

For once in his life he didn't lie, and with curious eyes did the man look to her, uniformed but not as gaudy as their last encounter. He preferred a much more spartan attire in his own home. Less trouble to assemble the ensemble.

He returned her smile, approaching too as the pair closed the distance that remained. Oh, it would be rather entertaining to have her here, how she would blunder about. At least it would provide him with many an encounter to be the valiant knight, come to save her from assured despair. "As am I, I didn't even know you'd come." He chuckled at her suggestion of never being found.

Well. It was possible, Josef imagining that the stink of a rotting body would take a good deal of time to wash out. "... but you're found now. Anywhere I can show you to?"

"But of course," came his reply, closing a deal further with her, well within arm's length, "hundreds." He did, of course, have a rather extensive library of holobooks, but his actual, physical collection was much more valuable. He had to have one of, if not the, most well-stocked libraries in the Hegemony. Given, a great deal of it came from his personal collection before the Exodus, but a portion came thereafter. Rather useful how his little hobby would come in such handy regards with the future empress. "Is there anything specific you'd like, Linde?"

The library wasn't that far away, though to be sure Kampf was more concerned with the woman before him.

He certainly didn't expect her to make the first move, at least not one so daring! Listening as she spoke he moved the hand opposite of the arm now entwined with his fiancee's to her hand, as if to keep it there. "Whatever you'd like, my lady." To be sure she would have something of a fit when she saw the place, in-fact he would be rather lucky if she didn't have a seizure. It did please him to hear that his gift hadn't been for naught, and he spoke as he leaned in to her, though still keeping a deal of distance as he lead her to the place, "Well, we'll have to find something more for you then."

A shake of his head came in response, downplaying her modesty as she removed her hand, the Emperor drawing closer to her in its wake. "There's nothing to forgive, Linde..." Her martial dress did manage to impress him, though he admitted mentally that he favored her more feminine attire. Such was what set her apart from her sister, as it seemed that that woman was almost entirely about business. For a few moments more they strolled, Kampf keen to dote on his fiancee before they arrived at the door to the rather extensive collection.

In a flash did they part to reveal the vast number of tomes before them, nearly all of them hailing from times long before the woman's birth. Such a sight even excited him a degree, as he was sure there was some musty book here or there that even he hadn't the time to read yet. "Feel free to explore." The whisper floated across the air between them as he looked to the assortment, though his eyes finally rested on the young woman. A fine empress, to be sure.

A smirk curled his lips as she dashed off, eager to be about the many books which populated the cavernous chamber. He followed, a much more thought-out and measured manner to his movements, albeit slowly, looking over the many books, some of which he could recall reading as Supreme Chancellor. Oh how he would enjoy the reestablishment of Dinsmärk, to dwell once again in his old residence. The time that he used to follow her, however, was also utilized to concoct a manner in which to introduce another topic with which he needed to introduce. He figured she would listen with some interest, as it involved their wedding.

Specifically the entertainment, and if he recalled correctly she was on-world.

"Linde." The name came from his lips with a tone begging attention, possessing authority, "If we might speak for a moment? It's in regards to our wedding." With this his hands found themselves behind his back, clasping each other as he looked to the smaller figure of his fiancee. "I've gotten something for you."

"Yes, I thought that you might favor it." Or he hoped she would, he knew little of her tastes in the arts besides her utter fascination with written works. Using the brief window of silence to approach a deal closer, he leaned in to announce his gift, of sorts. Such an event at this would surely be worthy of such entertainment as he had managed to procure.

Though he couldn't help but feel that there was some underlying agenda to it all with her.

"For our wedding I've arranged a deal of entertainment." He allowed the words to linger for a moment before he announced just what he'd procured. "The diva Devika will perform for us, if that isn't against your wishes."

The embrace was returned, if not slowly, as Kampf wrapped his own arms about her, though he was understandably a deal more preoccupied with the affection that now seemed to flow so freely from the otherwise reserved woman. "To be sure," he spoke the woman drawn close, "is isn't too much trouble, and she might've mentioned something..." Oh, it was all out on a limb, but surely such a prestigious individual as the Diva would be welcome.

Taking advantage of the situation, Josef used to opportunity to kiss the woman again, this time drawing out the act more than the last. "I'm happy," he mused, drawing back, "that it is to your liking."

"Hmm." Was all that the God-Emperor offered in reply for a moment, taking in the sight of the eldest Redwing child in pain, drawing off of it for a moment. It was a rather pleasant sight, to see the Azrik experiencing only a fraction of the harrowing the Belkans had suffered at their hands. "It seems I will, won't ?" For a moment the Emperor simply looked to Wing with a pleased expression on his face, only moving off of her for a moment as he thought he recognized a face in the crowd.

Was it...? No, no it couldn't be his cousin Mammon. Not in this cess-pit.

"Liese, dear."

The woman hesitated to reply, only looking up through tear-filled eyes and responding with a weak and harried, "My... lord?"

"I would suggest partaking of that potion the creature is waving about if you want your darling son to have a mother." Part of the woman sank at the thought, but soon moved to approach Hope, an arm outstretched, palm open before the saber fell to the floor, sending the woman tumbling, hands still begging for the phial as she writhed for a moment.

Where it that one didn't pay close attention to detail, it would have been easy to miss the small delegation sitting, rather quietly, to the minister's right flank. A handful of men, and women, clad in uniforms as black as the void that the walls did show. However quiet they may have been, they certainly didn't seem awkward. While one or two of the others might have proved to squirm at the sight of a member of the Coalition so close, the eldest officer seemed rather unimpressed with the situation.

That was without considering, of course, the titan of a figure that sat near the center of the small entourage - a man who wore neither a smile nor a frown on his face. What he did wear, with an air of proficiency, were his eyes - piercing orbs of emerald hue eagerly glancing over the prime minister as he entered - the eyes of a predator.

None of the figures bothered for any sort of applause, as some of the other parties did, the less couth soldiers even having to fight sneers from creeping onto their well-bred faces. Waiting for the noise that did pollute the place to die down, the towering central figure stood silently, his jet gabardine greatcoat hanging about his shoulders fastened with a golden brooch, fashioned into a triangle. Instead of such a hollow and worthless gesture as clapping one's hands, a single resounding snap of his heel plates was his hail, accompanied by a proper Imperial salute.

"Sieg heil, minister Regievko."

Kampf, meanwhile, simply blinked in response to the man who spat something back to him in his inferior tongue. Part of him wondered if he was even worthy of the name. Of course, such thoughts didn’t leave Kampf’s lips either. As arrogant as the man was, he was no fool, much like Devrim. Perhaps the Coalite would get to business soon.

The longer one spent here, the more likely they were to catch a disease.

The Imperial delegation watched the man speak, and even the most belligerent of their number would admit that the man before them was a leader, though of what caliber and effectiveness they left up to their lord, who sat watching in curiosity. Of course it was no small feat of irony that they sat here, a legitimate part of the council, ready to contribute their part to do away with the Aschen menace. That much was unquestionable.

The matters of halting empire, oppression, segregation? They had to stifle their chuckling, bullion aiguilettes shaking slightly as officers tried their best not to burst out with a giggle. Already were there several minds planning jokes around this when they returned home, others looking to the rest of the audience, trying to see if anyone was taking this as seriously as the speaker.

Perhaps it would have been in their best interests to look to their center, as their Emperor watched with cold eyes. Just as one man nearly let loose a snicker did he speak, his even-toned bass resounding when made guttural enough. "How very... humbling, minister. But, I believe we can spare breath on all of our parts - we do know why we're here." The God-King offered a light smile at that, cocking his head at a very slight angle. "Don't we?" Came his coy finish.

"Then let the terms of the pact be decided." The air of playfullness had disappeared, the eldest Scatterran stood, striding forward a bold step. The monarch carried his height, an attribute further emphasized from his clothing, well, Josef clasping his pale hands behind his back. "There are more grave matters to be seen to than the cooperative destruction of some petulant man-child and his band of miscreants playing at empire."

Kampf paid the man respect enough not to interrupt him when he spoke, knowing how rude and uncouth such an action would seem. However, as in the days of old, the Coalition refused to realize the true threats that were posed to the Scatterran race. Very well. If he insisted on waiting, then let him wait. He was a sovereign being.

Already had the man proven less in the lord's eyes than he had expected - how he pandered to the Terrans, the words made his ears writhe as if a thousand maggots crawled within them. The thought was disgusting, but the monarch made no visual balk at such, instead patiently waiting for the man to finish, with words that were far from expected.

Reclamation.

The word banished the irritation he so felt earlier, Josef's eyes widening a detectible hint, looking to the minister with renewed vigor. For a brief moment, the only word that the boogeyman of many a story could utter was that most holiest of words, looking to the Coalite with wondering, if lethally serious eyes. "Scatter?"

The Emperor would not be phased long, however, soon recovered from the momentary lapse and resuming his previous tone, meeting Regievko's eyes as best he could. "Then, Brüderchen, will you lend me your ear for but a moment, and in due time heed the warning I bring?"

The Emperor blinked only once after this, his figure and uniform unmoving as his mind fought off memories long-buried, unearthed only by Regievko's words.

Untouched. There mere thought sent a shiver down his spine. No doubt it was overgrown beyond recognition now, but the thought of standing on Steel Square again made his blood run cold, if that was possible. Thoughts of a home long forgotten inhabited his mind once more, of a war so bitterly remembered in their transplanted home.

"Minister?" Asked Josef, "If I might have a moment of your time?" A moment, no doubt, that could lead to several more. This talk of Scatter had, no doubt, excited him, but it was certainly not going to derail his other thoughts. No, not when that oddest of feelings lurked in his mind. It felt, almost, like fear.

With a shift did the Belkan realign the coat on his shoulders, his martial frame bisected by the white swordbelt he wore, a light sigh escaping his lips as he glanced to the marines on either side of the man, looking at them as a falcon would a rabbit. "Let us speak, leader to leader..."

"... Josef to Josef?"

The Belkan ceased his attempts at speaking with the Hykan, seeing that the man had no interest in the wisdom of another. A pity that, how shocked these political slaves would be when the alien counter-offensive began. But, out of all the powers, who would they look to for guidance? The Emperor mused on the topic for a moment as he stood, soon accompanied by several of his subjects, Diesing looking to him with a curious glance.

"I would assume, my lord, they would not hear your warning?" The bespectacled man, obviously once a pinnacle of athletic conditioning, still bore a hint of his own martial bearing - replaced now with the cold, calculating mind of a diplomat. Josef didn't bother returning his glance, there was no need to, instead he simply spoke.

"You would be correct, lord Diesing." A sigh was emitted from the elderly noble, looking after where the one known as Regievko had filed off too.

"They will be caught entirely off-guard." Spoke the graying aide, his own hands mimicking the motion of his lord's.

"I'm not sure that's to our disadvantage, Leopold."

An otherwise unremarkable patron entered the ancient hall, the stone walls and arches, despite their age and strength, seemed to buckle and bow in the slightest hints as he slowly stepped by - black boots polished to a sheen slithering from beneath the skirt of his onyx overcoat with each step. Row by row of pews passed by until the Scatterran reached the third from the first, nary a noise coming from his form as he moved to sit, white-gloved hands pinching the fiber visor of his cap to reveal a healthy head of Austran hair, parted professionally from years of practice.

Lightly did the cover find itself sitting in the man's lap, his left leg crossed with his right. A quick glance from one of the nearby holy men was soon silenced and sent back to its place with a cold glare, his hands concerned with drawing the cherry rosary from his mantel's breast pocket as he returned his gaze to what lay before him - an artifact of the time before. One of the many relics the churches so proudly held in the days before the Exodus, proof that God's Empire was once mighty.

Once powerful enough to rival his own.

Silently did his fingers rub the wooden beads, the gilded triangle hanging from the bottom of the cord jostling slightly with the effort.
