Kampf nodded, it had been some time since he had read it, though he did recall the story. He always did prefer things written before the exodus, less emphasis on him, more thing about it seeming... Scatterran. "They were rather risque, weren't they? I did enjoy it when I picked it up, I found it a refreshing change from all the conflict and struggle so present in our literary heritage." He mused further, "While that's an excellent backdrop, and theme, for many a story, there are many issues and themes than can be explored, at the least elsewhere, if not exclusively with a romantic tone." He really had too much time on his hands, but he was happy to have someone he could discuss such things with, who wasn't too preoccupied with believing he was a God.

It was like speaking to Wing. A Scatterran Wing.

He waved down an attendant, whispering something to him before he soon stepped off, Kampf apologizing for the interruption as he finished, eager to continue, "Pardon me, but, it makes me wonder, what era do you take a liking to? I know that I have a thing for the Old Empire, before my father's time..."

“Well, my tastes don't range quite so far back!” She admitted, then gave him a wink. “They go backa bit farther. It's harder to find books from that far back though, so I also like books from around your father's time, but before his rise.” She shrugged. “You can almost sense the beginning in them. Almost feel that which spurred out ancestors on.” she closed her eyes, remembering scenes and stories from books.

“Ah. They're all so amazing. Hard to find a good variety though, to my sorrow.” Getting older books wasn't exactly easy as going to a book store. Her family despaired enough that her reading would leave her needed corrective eye surgery.

“Of course, the family has a collection, but I've already read most of that.” He had been alive so long, he was probably more than familiar with all the older books.

"It truly speaks to one's soul. Whatever disagreements I had with my father, it's through such works that I've come to understand him a bit better, perhaps even think I know him." He paused, the mention of his father, even by himself, had surprised him. He usually didn't like to speak of him, but this time... well, it was understandable in the context. Especially since they were discussing classical Belka after all.

He picked some more at his food, interested instead with his company, "Sieghilde, remind me, once we're finished, I rarely get the chance to discuss such matters with people that it's reminded me... If it wouldn't interrupt your plans, I'd be delighted to show you my library here."

Have? Have? She had assumed borrow at absolute best, really she had. "Emperor Josef, please. You've honored me so much today already. I could not possibly accept this gift. I am sorry, but I must refuse." She would stay firm on this. Oh how she wanted it, but as he had said, she well knew the value of that book. No, it was not something she could accept in the least.

Though it was hard to refuse her God, she knew she had to.

"Emperor, you have lavished attention and honor on me so far. I am nobility yes, perhaps from one of the purest lines in existence, but I cannot allow even you to continue like this, my Lord Josef. Please forgive me but, it isn't proper in the least, and the only thing I have is propriety." Her voice was tinged with the slightest taste of bitterness. The second born daughter, youngest girl, well aware that as soon as her parents deemed a suitor acceptable she would be married off, Propriety and her reputation was all she really had. All were equal in the empire in theory and in religion, but she well knew her place as a noble lady.

"I am sorry sir, but I believe it may be best if i use today to get settled into my rooms here, rather than go to your library. Please, forgive me." She looked down to her plate, clearly not happy to refuse, but refusing to accept.

Linde just knew she has done something wrong, but wasn't certain what it was. Perhaps her family was right and she hadn't been ready for a pilgrimage just yet. She rose however, demurely following her sister, no small confusion evident in her eyes, though her face remained calm and still as ever. Matters to attend to. Matters they hadn't had to attend to before she had decided going on the library trip was a poor idea. That was code for trouble. She knew Liese hardly approved of her, but still. She had behaved perfectly, she was certain.

Linde Redwing was in her set of rooms in front of her vanity, brushign out her hair. Normally worn up, especially in public, she took it down daily to carefully brush her hair out. It was much longer than the severe hair style currently favored made it look. She scowled at the mirror, knowing perfectly well who was to blame for the severe militaristic hairstyle so popular.

"I cannot wait until someone sets something new! Whoever decided Liese's military style was good for the social scene is a fool." She murmured under her breath, then sighed. She was staying at the Redwing house on the planet of course, little used as it apparently was. Liese was lucky to be at the emperor's right hand of course, but it meant that the woman had a room in residence. After that debacle of a dinner, Linde would not stay in residence with the Emperor. She'd only make a fool of herself again.

No one had been announced, the servants, not that Liese had many, Linde had been forced to hire a few just to get the basics done, had not let her know, and as a result, Linde thought it must be one of the servant at her door. Hardly suspecting Kampf was there, she continued to brush her hair as she called out. "Come in!"

She kept her eyes on her vanity mirror, her strokes slow and even, not even paying attention to who was in the doorway. "Is there something I'm needed for?" She asked, not expecting so. "Or did the first of the party invitations finally start to arrive." She would have a few days reprieve of course, as a polite and silent remark to her status before she was besieged with invitations. After all, she would only be here a handful of weeks.

Kampf took the invitation as it arose, walking as quietly as his hobnailed boots would allow, and as he swung the door opened he was rather surprised. As beautiful as she was at dinner, she seemed more radiant now, perhaps that she didn't care who saw her. He sighed softly as he came to a stand-still, looking about the room for only a moment before he returned his eyes to her. He wanted to smile, but that would ruin what it was he had to say. "There is one thing..." He spoke, even lessened his bass voice proving to be rather unique, "... I believe I owe you an apology."

It was odd. He hadn't apologized to anyone in... at least five centuries. How strange this felt!

Not a servant, not a servant at all. She stood quickly, a hair band coming up to secure her hair up in a child's ponytail. It wasn't the best, but at least her hair was no longer down. "My lord! I'm sorry, I didn't know you were coming. I would have been waiting." she said, wide eyed. "Please, no apology is needed. Liese assures me that I take things much too personally." she said, and offered him a salute, before turning the ponytail into a loose bun. There. That was a much more adult hairstyle, if sloppy.

Well he did insist on it, didn't he? Still, dealing with Kampf the man, was very different from worshiping Kampf the God. "Then I must accept, sir...Josef. But let's retire to the recieveing room, if we may. My personal quarters are no place for visitors." Especially of the opposite sex. As she had told Liese last night, in private where she could be as bitter as she felt, she had nothing but her honor and her pride to her name, work with BARDAS or not.

At least was was fully and fashionably dressed. That would have been simply demoralizing. Kampf likely preferred woman of angles and muscle, rather than Linde's regrettable softness.

He nodded, smiling as he did, happy that she had accepted his apology, whether there was any real base to it or not. He also understood her logic with such a move, it probably wasn't very common that one had an emperor, much less a God, in their room. He followed her lead, allowing her to set the pace of the encounter. Arriving as they did, he awaited her directions, this being her house and not his, as to just where to sit.

He eyed her as they moved, and even as they stood in the room, though he avoided doing such when she looked to him, preferring to meet her gaze at such. She had grace about her that he rarely saw outside of the Gotteshalle, and even within, and there was something about it that appealed to him. Probably had something to do with the fact that this had been a predominantly militant-based dictatorship for the past five centuries... "I do trust things have been going well for you, Sieglinde?"

Kampf took his seat as directed, and pondered for a moment on if he wanted anything, the suggestion of tea ringing out rather oddly with him. Times spent on Dev Eru were what he recalled, his time spent speaking with the Erutin Empress. Such an amiable one, her, she actually was quite civilized and enlightened for a xeno. "I would be delighted, if you could." On the topic of social occasions an eyebrow became cocked, his curiosity piqued, "Dances, or simple get-togethers? I can't say I've ever attended such a thing, not since Scatter. I remember the gala in Dinsmärk before the war..." ... and that Coalition assassin. He mentally sneered, an ugly, happy sneer, recalling as he plunged the bayonet into her as she thought she had him entwined...

He blinked, pushing the thought from his mind. "I'm sure that Liese will be most excited to hear such."

Kampf shared a chuckle with her, glad to see that he'd managed to get her into something of a better mood than last time. "She is rather dedicated, and I'm rather glad she is. But she's just... too severe sometimes." He thought on that, knowing that the two didn't get along all that well. That much was obvious from Liese's little episode at the table. With a sly grin, he added, "And am I to take that as an invitation, Sieglinde?"

Hearing such rather pleased Kampf, figuring that this was just the kind of event to start moving things into the new direction. It would take some time, but hopefully not long, his plans having a direct correlation with his efforts in the Home galaxy. "Any of them sound wonderful, though I must warn that I haven't danced in quite a while." He offered another soft chuckle, inhaling audibly for a moment, "And I'm not terribly familiar with things anymore. Do they still waltz?" His question was rather honest, he hadn't bothered to look at anything of the type in the intervening centuries since his exile. The waltz came up simply because it was both rather simple, and something which he somehow hadn't forgotten.

He chuckled at the thought, him shuffling about trying to mingle with the nobility of Tannhäuser. "Well, I guess I'll have to get someone to teach me, then." He then looked as the servants brought in their beverages, and took his happily as they offered it to him, pouring the tea almost as soon as they had arrived. He took it as it was, rather hot, and after a moment of hesitation, took a sip. Piping hot, in fact. He soon sat it down, having been, again, more distracted with immediate matters than contextual actions. "I wouldn't make much of a man if I couldn't dance, and a dinner sounds delightful. When should I plan on attending?"

He pondered this, bringing two fingers to his lip as he thought of his agenda at large, which often did have quite a wide selection of things to be done. BARDAS wanted him to inspect their newest mass-driver rifle personally on Rienzi, as well as tour their newest space mines, and then there were issues dealing with the Reichsversammlung, he wanted to attend the assembly this coming week. It was, after all, the transfer of power from Redwing to himself, officially. "I know that the Syndicate wants me to tour some of their assets on Rienzi within the month, and aside from the Assembly here this next week, I can attend whenever you would ordain it."

Written? She was a rather profound specimen, this one, writing invitations... Well, it did make some sense. He was in attendance, after all, though he always figured that someone would just get a scribe of some kind to do all the writing, then sign your name on it and claim it as your own. But Sieglinde suggested otherwise.

He approved.

Offering forth a hand, he silently asked to see the tablet with a quick blink, smile still present on his face.

Kampf strode with some purpose through the place, though he lacked the power that he would going to a speech or meeting with a delegate, his movement not as dominant or purposeful as usual, though it did show some determination. He, for a change, wore a tunic more suited for such a social occasion; a double breasted jacket, still black, trimmed in a rather faint gold bullion, accompanied with basic black trousers, which were also trimmed, and a rather reserved pair of oxfords. His hair's comb-over managed to escape the weather outside, the blondish hair only upset by the removal of his peaked cap, which was now in the hands of a capable servant, the same one who was escorting him to the room where most of the evening would be spent.

Hopefully he didn't look too out of place.

He allowed the servant to open the door and announce his arrival, Josef preferring to tuck his arms behind his back and bow his head slightly, looking the humble part. He would play this up as best he could, hopefully getting a chance to sit beside lady Sieglinde.

He returned her salute with a smile, happy to see that she was so personable with her guests, and followed her with little issue, dissuading her from her worries as he did such, speaking softly enough so that the murmur drowned out his words for those who weren't listening, "It's no problem, though I'm surprised that you're offering a guest such a high position." He didn't look forward to the drudgery that would come, however, the last thing he wanted to do was to have a conversation with every one of these pompous-

He was getting ahead of himself. He needed to enjoy what he had, especially since he had another chance to speak with Sieglinde outside of paying her a visit, and she never seemed to be too keen on such things. She was rather proper, he would give her that, a true Scatterran lady if he ever met one. He took his seat as the servant offered it, and with an idle movement placed the napkin in his lap, looking instead to the table at hand, meeting gazes that were soon turned away, back to their own conversations.

"You have quite the audience here tonight, Sieglinde."

Again the Emperor offered a softly raised palm, as if to calm a distressed individual, "It's fine, I do appreciate the gesture..." He then offered his gaze to one or two of the guests, smiling as always, trying to keep them from eying him too much. Leaning over somewhat, he spoke more softly than usual, keeping his voice hushed, "You put the others here to shame." He offered her a brief nod at this, glancing to her beauty for a moment before returning to the scene at large, reclining in his seat as much as it would allow, ready for either the meal or a response, whichever would come first.

Josef nodded to the servant who arrived first, taking whatever it was he bore without asking. Surely it wouldn't be anything unpleasant, not with Redwing hosting this, and he had more important things to tend to than whatever it was he ingested. He shot her another brief glance between blinks, switching his eyes between her and his meal every now and then. "Well," He whispered, his voice strained to produce such a light note, "we'll just have to speak later." With a audible intake of breath he took up his utensils, cutting away at the sliver of meat that was accompanied by some rather artistically influenced vegetables. Odd, these nobles. They preferred food to look at, not to eat...

It made little sense.

"How has Tannhäuser greeted you, Sieglinde?" The small talk was all part of the act, after all, that's what they did at these things, wasn't it?

Kampf's smile widened as she spoke, taking in her words between the occasional bite of food or wave to another guest, it seemed that people really were abuzz with this. "I'm glad to hear that you find our capital so welcoming, I know sometimes it can seem cold and urban, but it has its bright spots." He soon had to suppress a grin, which he did with ease, turning to the matter of her personal vessel, "But I'm terribly sorry to hear about your vessel, I don't suppose there's anything I can do?" His hint of emotion that tinged his question let on just enough that he might seem genuinely concerned, for in a way he was, though just not in the way of which he spoke.

The Emperor cocked one of his eyebrows at this, were it that he wasn't who he was a playful glint might've appeared in his eye, and he asked her, with a slight smile, "Oh, have I? Well, I'll leave it at that then." He turned back to his food for a few moments, pondering just what would be the best subject to broach, several coming to mind... the Crusade, the Reichsversammlung, Liese-

No. That was probably a bad idea. Best to keep things on a more personal level here, after all, it was a social dinner. "I'm surprised to see, or rather, not see Liese here." He looked about for another moment, down the table, "But then, this is your event, it's only proper that you host it."

Josef offered the young lord another nod, "I'm happy to hear such, though I know Redwing is a good woman, I'm glad that I am welcomed back to my office. You know, it wouldn't hurt the Empire to possess more men of your caliber. I don't suppose you've considered the service?" He shot a glance over to Linde at this, the slight twinge of a smile betraying his thoughts on the matter, though he allowed most of his attention to be focused on the newcomer.
