One of the central market places of La'ita Hara had been for the time being converted into something of a public spectacle. A large platform had been erected where Avantia herself stood present. Those of her royal guard were stationed to maintain a safe distance between the platform and the gathered crowds of people who had congregated to watch what would be Volaria's first public execution in several generations of Matriarchs. Many had gathered out of public outrage, others out of morbid interest in the grizzly affair.

Standing at Avantia's side was Shanthi - the source of the whole matter. Truth be told she hadn't wanted to be here at all, and it had been Avantia who had insisted on her attending. She hated the way people looked at her with pity, and she would just as soon have remained out of the public eye had Avantia not wanted her here. She endured it with dignity though, and she kept her head high.

Meanwhile the main street was kept clear of onlookers to allow for the arrival of Sato, and of course, Joshua himself.

In the skies above the district, a single Sudden Transport made it's way through the buildings, and the skyline. Bobbing and weaving until it ultimately came to touch down in a space cleared in the market square. As the door to the transport opened, four Shogunate Warriors emerged in lock step, their rifles shouldered.

The four men spread out in a guarding formation, providing a corridor in which the prisoner would be delivered.

Sato, and four Shogunate guard, along with Haruo Arakawa in tow moved through the formation, Josh would have a black bag placed over his head and escorted towards the central staging area.

Josh hadn't been told the real reason he was being taken here, but the sounds of the crowds, and the engines of the Taiyou transport likely played in his ears as they moved.

As Sato, with Josh in tow moved up the steps, the four guards move the broken man towards the place where he was to be executed. There Josh would be forced to kneel, his hands unbound from his back, and rebound to his front, As he was forced to kneel, a broomstick was placed in his knee joints.

Prior to his transfer here, Josh had been fed a meal consisting of rice and a few slices of fish to bring his energy back up, along with water to quench his thirst. Josh had also been given an opportunity to be bathed, and he was dressed in a grey yukata. This was probably the cleanest he had been in weeks since his capture.

The delegation from the AXIS also silently watched the spectacle as it unfolded, seated in front to provide the best view of the execution.

The TNG Delegate, Casper Lessard had also been invited to witness the execution, of course. He had not been told the true nature of the event.

Sato stepped forward another step, approaching Avantia while Josh was being prepared for execution.

Sato looked the Matriarch in the eyes, before she unsheathed her Katana and held it outstretched to her right, and then she pulled it to her shoulder. It was then she held it up straight and inspected the sword up and down, and then she sheathed the ornate Katana, before taking the scabbard and blade, and holding it horizontal out towards the Matriarch, offering a bow as her hands remained outstretched.

For a while Josh was led to believe that he was being set free. Or at least the torture was to end. He'd had food - decent food that hadn't been forced back up, and he had some energy within him. He'd been given water and a bath, before eventually been clothed. For the first time in a long time, he was given hope. Misleading hope.

He was still in pain from the days of torture though and as the transport stopped, Josh had to practically be dragged out. His legs were battered and bruised from the abuse and he was struggling to walk as he was led. He could hear a lot of noise that confused him, and he knew that he was outside in a crowd of people. But he had no idea why.

His hope of freedom, or an end to the torture was gone the moment his hands were tied to his front and he was forced to kneel, a broomstick forced against the back of the joints and causing him to cry out in pain. He had no idea what was happening as he was still blindfolded by the bag, but he was ready to beg. He had already begged. But he was ready to beg again.

"Please. I'm begging. Please not again." His voice was still hoarse and cracked from all the agonising screaming he'd been doing. It hurt to speak, but he was willing to beg through the pain. He now regretted having anything to do with taking the person that had started all this. He was ready to apologise.

"I'm sorry... Please... No more..."

Avantia accepted the offered sword as she lifted it carefully from Sato's hands before offering a bow in return. She turned then, offering it to Kamil next who likewise accepted it with dignity and respect before bowing his own head to Avantia. Traditionally such a gesture from Sato would have come with the expectation that it would be Avantia who would strike the blow, but consideration was afforded for Volarian culture and Avantia's lack of experience in handling a sword. Kamil would act in her stead to ensure that the execution progressed without error.

As preparations for the pending execution were getting underway, Avantia turned to address the gathered spectators. While she spoke, one of the Taiyou guards pulled the black bag from the prisoner's head.

As the hood was removed, Joshua winced at the bright sunlight that was shining down. He frowned, blinking a few times as his eyes adjusted to the daylight and he saw hundreds of people standing around. A sinking feeling settled in his stomach. It only got worse as the realisation settled in as to why he was here when someone spoke.

"This man, Joshua Mattrix, has been found guilty of the kidnapping of Shanthi Hakkar, and of slave trafficking. For his crimes against the people of Volaria, he has been sentenced to death by public beheading."

For a moment Josh was completely speechless before he started to shake his head. "N-no." Was all he could mutter for a moment. finally his body seemed to catch up with the brain and Josh tried in vain to get himself up. It wasn't going to be happening, but he tried still.

"I said I was sorry!" The panic showed in his voice as he looked at the woman who had spoken. It was only then that he caught sight of Shanthi and his face paled. "I'll tell you everything about the man who sold her!" He changed his tactics now.

His pleading went unanswered though as Avantia nodded to Kamil who drew the sword smoothly from its scabbard and moved to take his place beside the prisoner. The icy cold blade rested against the back of Joshua's neck while the Taiyou held him securely in preparation for the strike.

Josh's eyes fell upon the man that drew the sword. "STOP! Please!" The fully grown adult was now crying. Death was his worst fear. He wasn't ready for death yet. "I'll do anything. I'm sorry. Please don't do this!"

He struggled as much as he could as he felt the blade touch the back of his neck. "I sorry for what I did. It was a mistake!"

Amongst the royal guard stood the white-haired and stern-faced figure of Ira, his glaive held at the ready and his eyes locked on the pleading Josh. His gaze was hard and his expression unflinching in the face of the man's weeping. Inwardly, he was not quite as unperturbed as he came across. Whilst he held little sympathy for Joshua, he was dissatisfied with the man being taken accountable for what had happened. Yes, as the one who had taken Shanthi he deserved no lenience, but Ira was well aware that he was being scapegoated. It brought no justice to kill him like this, when both his superiors and the man who had maimed Shanthi kept their heads.

He kept his thoughts to himself, though. It was not his place to question the decision, and he was well aware that the latter of the two parties - the Aschen man - was well out of the reach of justice. This pathetic man made a poor substitute, but there had to be some closure to the issue, he supposed.

Another member among the Royal Guard, a bit newer than the rest, was Arjuna. He stood and watched as the man about to be executed begged for his life. He felt no compassion for the man, even though it wasn't his hands that butchered Shanthi's wings. He did feel that O'leary and that bastard Miles, who was the one who removed Shanthi's wings, should be up there with Joshua. He wished that he would have had the honor of beheading every single one of them himself. However, it was not his place to decide these things, so Arjuna would have to be satisfied with just watching Joshua's head roll.

A blue and silver winged spectator, this one not at all avorian, though he blended in well with the crowd, set his gaze up at Avantia. His brows were set deep above his eyes that day, casting a shadow above them. It was a grave sight. An event that stirred a profound sense of unease within his chest. Though he had long since pulled himself away from ocell society, he still held onto a few of their core morals. Executions were not a source of justice. They did not fix wrongs. Criminals were made to work and contribute until the day they died under strict watch. Only criminals that could not be captured were killed.

It was with this in mind that Tane switched his gaze to the man pleading for mercy, for forgiveness, before so many people. Before a queen. Before his executioner.

Was there no mercy?

Tane switched his gaze to Shanthi. Her wings gone. He could barely imagine what torture that had been- but the man who had sold her could not have possibly expected such a thing to happen, could he?

Shanthi probably pleaded as much as this man here, but she had not lost her life. Even so, she had committed no crime. Tane tried to justify this within his heart, because he was Volarian now. This was the place he had chosen to live his life. This beautiful city, this city that was so much more peaceful than Terra. Somewhere he thought he could settle down one day, perhaps-

-but he could not find it. Even with Shanthi in mind, he could not find it in his heart to justify this execution. It was murder. His gaze fell from the sight completely.

He had seen much blood and death, and caused much of it. This, however, was too troubling.

The AXIS delegation all remained quiet through the spectacle, all of them provided a near front row seat to the execution. Livia was chewing on some popcorn, with executions considered sport where she came from.

Another popcorn was place in her mouth and thoughtfully munched on, while her eyes moved over to the seated Prince, and the Matokeyan delegation. She always detested the small creatures, but those thoughts went unspoken as her eyes went back towards the execution that was unfolding in front of her.

Shimizu was seated besides Takara Sato, whom was dead center in the box seats to the Execution.

The Shogun shot Avantia a reassuring nod, before she leaned back in her chair.

Two Argosian Legionaries stood just adjacent to the Avorian Guard, they were posted by Vulpes in the event that Josh tried to escape. They stood in complete silence, like a pair of statues.

Everyone was poised to carry out the execution, no matter how much Josh begged and pleaded. His cries for mercy went ignored.

The Imperial Warrior behind Josh however managed to say something through his thickly accented voice.

"Stop begging and die with honor." He said, before he stepped back to allow Kamil to proceed with the execution.

The man that was about to die looked nothing like the man he'd once been when he'd chosen to take Shanthi off the street. He'd been starved and tortured and looked broken and pathetic now. He was still begging as the final preparations were made.

"Please! I'm sorry! I don't want to die! Please. I'm begging. I'll do anything."

Even as a man behind him told him to stop begging and die with honour, Josh struggled and shook his head.

Kamil looked briefly to Avantia, but the resolve upon the Matriarch's face had not wavered.

"Please. Don't do--"

The blow fell swiftly to silence Joshua's pleas as Kamil smoothly separated Joshua's head from his shoulders with a single clean cut. As he held his poise for a moment, Joshua's head tumbled free of the neck to land in his lap.

There was silence before Kamil was handed a piece of cloth which he used to wipe the blade clean before re-sheathing it. Once done, he offered the blade back to Avantia once more with a bow who accepted it as graciously as she had from Sato prior. She in turn offered it with outstretched hands to the Imperial Warrior standing at hand, to return it to Sato.

There were mixed emotions among the onlookers. Satisfaction, unease, disgust... not everyone was comfortable with what had just transpired, and many were unaccustomed to such displays. Shanthi herself had turned away at the last minute, and was looking a bit worse for the whole ordeal.

"Ira, Nalesh, go on and take her on back to the palace," Avantia instructed two of her royal guard.

The single Imperial Warrior took the blade with a small bow, and then moved to Sato so that she could take possession of the weapon.

With the sentenced passed, the Shogun turned to leave, along with the rest of the delegation, save for Shimizu and Livia, whom decided to stay and mingle with the rest of the spectators.

Vulpes slowly moved alongside the Legate, shaking his head in slight disappointment.

"This man was little more than a pawn in the scheme, the Mastermind still lives, in Terran custody." The man said, as Livia stopped and nodded.

"Justice must be served, Eliminate him." She said.

Vulpes nodded. "As you wish." He said, before he turned to leave.

All while Sato moved up to Avantia. "Justice has been served, to this one man, but his boss still remains. I can only hope the Terrans will see Justice served, as it's out of our hands."

"Thank you," Avantia told Sato. "For everything."

It seemed a strange thing to thank someone while standing beside Joshua's decapitated form, but through the whole ordeal Sato had shown herself to not just be an ally to Volaria, but a friend to Avantia as well.

"The scars of what happened will linger on for years yet, but perhaps this man's death will ensure that this travesty does not occur again, and that the world knows retribution for these heinous acts will be swift, and without mercy. Thank Prince Shimizu for me. We will not forget the assistance that was extended during this ordeal."

She would have offered her gratitude in person to the man, but the execution had left her weary. She nodded to Kamil as her men moved to escort her back to the Royal Palace. Others had been tasked to the matter of removing the remains of the body, and she needed not linger to oversee that.

In the crowds stood a woman who had watched the execution with her own eyes. The man had begged and cried for his life right up until the end. She firmly believed that his lesson had been learned before all of this and that none of this should have happened. There was no proof for them that the man had committed the crimes. There had been no trial and she'd lived here for over half a year now doing charity work. The whole thing had been so shocking that she hadn't believed it when she'd heard an execution was taking place and it was clear that the man hadn't know that his death was coming until he'd been told in front of everyone.

He'd had no mercy, whatsoever.

Well, she wasn't going to show this country no mercy either. The nation weren't known for their violence, but murdering a TNG citizen without giving him his proper rights was murder and she was not going to stand by and accept it. Avantia had now given her the power to speak up.

She watched the royals move from the stage. If only she had tomatoes, she would have thrown them then. But now was not the time. No, now it was time to call some people and start plotting. She wasn't going to get away with the abuse of her power. And she'd learn that for your actions there were consequences. Just like the man on the stage had paid for whatever his were by losing his head.

With that, she stalked off back home.

Avantia stood quietly atop one of the numerous balconies of the palace that overlooked the sprawling city of Volaria. Her hands rested lightly atop the balcony edge and worry lines marked her expression. Things had been calm in Volaria since the arrest of the TNG woman who had made attempts to instigate local riots, but there was a tension on the horizon that was so palpable one could almost cut it with a knife.

She couldn't help but wonder if this was all a mistake, and that by entering Volaria into an alliance with the AXIS she had begun a ball rolling that was only gaining momentum as it went, with no way to stop it.

"Avantia," Kamil said from behind her.

She had been so distracted in her thoughts that she hadn't heard him approach, but from the weight of his voice she had a feeling this wasn't a conversation she was going to enjoy. She didn't reply, letting him speak up if he wished.

"Is it true?" he asked.

She couldn't make out whether it was disappointment, or something deeper that tinged his voice. There was an edge of something there, perhaps hurt. She knew he already knew the answer to his question, just as she knew what he was asking simply by the tone of his voice.

"It is," she replied finally.

Kamil moved to lay a hand on her shoulder, the question of why lingering upon his lips, but he withdraw his hand before it reached her and only silence followed.

"Kamil-" Avantia began as she turned to face him, but he was already departing from the balcony and his footsteps receded into the palace halls. It would seem there would be more than just political ramifications for her night with Shimizu.

"We need to calm these people down!" Kamil shouted over the panicked Xupra. "Tahir, I want this entire area corralled off from the rest of the town. Those showing symptoms are to be put in the hospital, everyone else who has been exposed I want separated from the rest of the town. Make use of these homes to put them up if need be. Get on it. Bandar, send word back to the Matriarch requesting more men out here. We need to roundup the Xupra that have gotten out of town. Are anyone besides the Xupra showing symptoms of the illness?"

"Doesn't appear so. It's just them," Bandar replied.

"Good. If we're fortunate it's not contagious outside of their species."

Tahir was already moving off to try and calm a panicked woman who was shouting that the disease had followed them. He tried to grab her arm and pointed her towards the area being corralled off for the still healthy Xupra.

"We need to get you people away from the sick, and separated until we know who are sick and who aren't," he explained to her.

With the Volarians largely unable to speak the common tongue, Tahir was one of the few who could communicate effectively with the Xupra. It was leaving a lot of panicked people being herded and in some cases forcefully relocated with no one to explain to them what was going on.

The villagers were taking it with a bit more calm. There was concern and worry etched into their faces, but they didn't share in the panic of the Xupra. In fact, as a man approached a villager to inquire into aiding the children, he was helpfully directed to the temporary hospital.

His arrival was interrupted by Kamil though, as the Avorian captain caught site of the stranger heading towards the building being corralled off for the sick. Kamil mistook him for a local villager and his words came in the Volarian tongue.

"We have a disease outbreak in there. We need to limit the exposure to anymore people. Are you with the volunteers?" he asked.

He could likely find the man other ways to help, while they tried to limit contact with the sick.

The Captain that Binx'o had been calling for, never showed his face. For Bo Alla was too busy trying to sort out the mess that was going on further away from his co-pilot. The chaos and panic was causing more trouble than anyone had probably planned and in a way (it was probably for the best) that many of the Xupra had died in the crash otherwise there probably would have been a stampede by now. But as there was, the panic at least was contained for now. But the lack of communication was what was causing a lot of the panic, along with the fact that the Xupra knew the truth of how deadly the disease was for them. No one wanted to come into contact with one of the diseased.

And the panicked woman right now, didn't want to go with the man that was trying to herd her somewhere. She wanted her children and she wanted to leave before the disease reached them.

"No! No! My family! My family!" She called out in Xi first and then in the common tongue to try and get the man to understand her as she struggled to get herself out of his grip.

Binx'o, upon seeing all of this frowned and tried to get himself up but couldn't. He had given up trying to call for Bo. Maybe the man had died in the crash. Instead he decided it was time he took charge. "Hey! You! Let her go and help me up. I can't move for some reason. I need help getting up." Bino'x could speak the common tongue well, at least.

"Binx'o! The disease is here! It's here! Get everyone out of here! We need another ship!" The woman cried out in Xi to a man she obviously knew more than just another member of her species.

Tahir was unable to stem the woman's struggles, or her panic and in the end he was forced to relinquish her to a pair of men who took hold of her arms to draw her away towards the as of yet, still healthy Xupra.

He caught his brother, Bandar, by the arm as the younger avorian was moving past.

"Find someone who can speak their tongue, and try to find that woman's family," he told Bandar. "And get them split into small groups and have them limit exposure with each other until we can separate the sick from the healthy."

"Uh... sure thing. Also by our estimates, it looks like at least six of them got out of town on us. Avantia's sending more men to help search the countryside and round them up."

Tahir nodded briefly before moving on. He didn't pay any notice the Binxo's shouts as he moved on to continue corralling the Xupra.

"You need to stay where you are," a nurse spoke up as she joined Binx'o. She was a young human woman, a local from the village who had volunteered to help with the refugees. "We'll get someone over to move you as soon as they can to limit any further exposure, but for now, just try to stay calm. You just got out of a major surgery, you need to rest."

Having been helpfully directed towards what would be a temporary hospital, Enoch thanked the Xupra and began move off in that direction. However, he was almost immediately interrupted by another individual, whose speech was of a strange tongue. And so, Enoch used the same method as he had but a moment ago, pressing into the mind of the other to discern the thoughts. And the man's thoughts were an explanation of the situation (of which Enoch was already well aware), followed by in inquiry as to his purpose here.

"I was sent here by the Father," he responded to the man in Caelestic, though he knew the man couldn't possibly know the tongue. He accompanied the words with thoughts of their meaning, allowing the man to comprehend him. "I am here to lend aid unto the children. Thou needst not concern thyself for my duties or my welfare, sir. I cannot succumb to the plagues of the mortals. It is, in part, why I was sent."

He glanced over toward the building that the Xupra indicated for him.

"If thou wouldst allow me, I would see to the aid of those in need."

He then waited patiently for the man's decision.

Elsewhere, a pair of of men were speaking with Kamil who was having a hard time following their words.

"Go find Tahir," he told the Volarian with him, before making an effort at communicating with the sergeant.

"Slow," he told them as he pointed with a finger to his lips.

His grasp of the common tongue was broken, and not near fluent enough to follow at a conversational pace and it took him a few struggling moments to formulate a few coherent words.

"Bo," he explained. "Follow with."

He gestured for them to follow as he led them off to locate Bo. A brief awkward exchange with a pair of Xupra escorting a weeping woman managed to get them pointed in the right direction - towards Ambar who was examining something on the ground, with Bo standing nearby.
