Artrea the Healing Gauntlets

Artrea were gauntlets worn by a legendary man named Lysander Enlight. The gauntlets were hidden beneath the soil of The Exalted Mountains and were used to light the world when Eras had almost consumed his siblings. For seven turnings of Gaia had Artrea served to the be sole beacon on hope for all living things on the world.

The gauntlets are made from a mysterious metal which is completely white in color, almost as if they were made of our pearl. But they are as harder than any metal known to the current world as the knowledge died with Those Who No Longer Roam. They will light the path when light is needed most.

Glittering feathers protrude backwards and out from the wrist. The fingers are sharpened like ten deadly claws that can grip any surface short of diamonds. It is easy to scale a wall with the gauntlets. But that is not what make the weapons deadly. So sharp in fact are they, that they can pierce through most armor and can slice through human flesh like a razor through parchment. But their greatest power is the ability to touch others and heal their mortal wounds through the use of Will.

There is always a weakness that comes with weapons of great power. Those who adorn the gauntlets and use its abilities will soon find their eyesight failing on them over a long period of time. All those that have ever used them—even once—have gone blind with age. And when they are used to heal, the adorner will find themselves very drained as if their own life-force had been passed into the other in order to save their life

Karasaad Vidathari's Story

Karasaad skated lightly, his feet an inch or so above the ground. He followed the icy footprints, not far behind Gary. He was glad he wasn't alone in the huge temple. He hated being in large open spaces alone. It always felt like something huge was occupying all of the empty space but was unable to be seen.

The young magician descended, and stood adjacent to Gary. He then wiped the little bit of blood that had trickled out of his nose off of his face with his sleeve. The woman gave off another feeling, almost like the first but different, in a sense. Perhaps it was the people of the realm that gave him the strange feeling. "What exactly do you mean by path of betrayal?" He asked, crossing his arms. He narrowed his eyes slightly.

Karasaad almost reached out, and then pulled his hand back, "I... I can feel Ry'nn's power when I'm near, if I cross her, I doubt I would be able to hold my own." He said, closing his hand. He knew that the Ry'nn brought them all here, and moving anything using magic took a lot of will and concentration.

"I..Alright, I guess. I'll take it." He took the stone, and held it in his hand. He looked at it for a moment, and then slid it into a small satchel that he had on his belt. It would blend in with the rest of the rings and jewels that he crafted as charms and trinkets for citizens of Wing City. "I'm sorry for doubting you." He said, watching the paladin leave. His eyes wandered from the paladin and looked at the temple, circling his gaze back to the woman. "I don't believe I have told you my name, I am Karasaad Vidathari, magician." He said, bowing lightly. The bronze feathers on the shoulders of his shirt clinked together lightly.

Karasaad nodded, "Of course, I'm sure you've got it all under control or something." He said, grinning slightly. He had no idea if she had it under control. He looked around some more, "This place is very pretty, what is this place used for? Prayer, or a gathering hall?" He asked, taking a step towards a statue.

"It looks very... open. Do a lot of people come here?" He asked, turning back to her.

"Right, I guess I'll just.. go.. leave." He said, turning to see her go. She was already gone. Her footsteps were gone to. How exactly did he get back here? He then wandered aimlessly through the temple. Why would they build a temple to a god they wanted to keep dead?

"Well, dammit." He sighed, turning a corner. He turned another corner and them came upon the exit, "ugh, thank gosh." He said, exiting the temple.

The young magician sat silently on the edge of the crowd that was forming to see the assassinated individual. He wasn't seated on anything like a chair, or a bench, but more of his own will power. His legs were crossed, and he attempted to look past the crowd to see what exactly had happened.

"Well, some things are the same I suppose." He said under his breath while he stood and walked around to a more open spot. He stepped back, and bump-ed into the barrel that the dwarf was standing upon. "My apologies, sir dwarf. I did not mean to bump into your standing place." He said, backing away and looking at the dwarf.

The dwarf wore plenty of gold and purple, perhaps he was a prince or a king. Being courteous to princes and kings normally turned out rather well. He bowed lightly, "I am Karasaad Vidathari, magician." He said, standing straight again. His eyes then shifted to the crowd, "What exactly happened?" He asked, hoping the dwarf could see better from his perch.

Karasaad looked over to the crowd, and then back to Mikhail. Where had he gone? Karasaad quickly located him, and followed towards the crowd, "Why do you say that? I'm sure these people are quite capable of that themselves." He said, before quickly issuing a few "pardon me"'s to random people he pushed past.

Karasaad hadn't heard anything of this man, and followed purely out of curiosity. When he was a student he read about the dwarves and their particular resistances to magic. Also about how their blood could be used in a potion to cure diabetic shock. They were an impressing species. Especially for living underground for so long. Common evolution of underground dwelling species shows normal loss of eyesight, but the dwarves have always been ones to.. well, have eyes.

Karasaad nudged past another man and apologized before being pushed harshly back by a guard. He didn't carry any weapons with him, but his hands and his brain. Those were the best things to have for a magician. "How did you know abou-" He stopped, perhaps it was just best not to ask questions.

He saw Mikhail's weapons and grinned slightly. Dwarves were their own pack animals, and could carry almost everything they needed. "I suppose I do." He said, gesturing lightly to the arrow. It seemed to shiver, and loosen itself from the corpse. Then it slid gently across the floor and rested in Karasaad's hand. "Here you are. It looks like there's some stuff on it." He said, scraping some off with his finger and sniffing it. He wiped it on his pants leg, and held out the arrow to the dwarf.

"It looks well made as far as arrows go, also." He added, looking over the rest while he held it out.

Karasaad knelt down to level with the dwarf. He watched the arrow turn in the dwarf's hands. Who would murder someone int he middle of a crime scene?

"Yeah, it smelled poisonous." He meant that the herbs used in it put off a rather pungent odor and which many poisons do. He hoped that by smelling it he and the dwarf hadn't become poisoned themselves.

"What kind of connection is that?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Demi hadn't told him anything about a poisonous arrow, or someone named Eras. "and who's Eras?" He inquired, cocking his head to the side. He didn't whisper it either.

Karasaad had been bending to pick a flower. It was purple, and grew strangely crooked towards the sky. Upon closer inspection, the petals seemed to put off a slight bioluminescence which gave them a strange purple aura. He slid it into a small book he had purchased into the city, and looked up into the sky.

A solitary bird flew across the sky, and made a hooping noise as it did so. It's wings beat in the air, propelling it forward and into the sky. It was beautiful, until everything froze. He looked around, and gasped as he saw a stone that had been falling stop in mid-air. Then he heard it. The stone spoke. It said his name, and he could see it glowing from inside of his bag.

He reached one hand in and grasped it. It felt different than before, it felt hot, but cold. He withdrew it from it's place, and gazed at it. After turning it in his hand a few times he held it out. Perhaps he was to speak back. He opened his mouth to question the stone. Perhaps it had become sentient, or was a means of communicating with a higher power.

The darkness surprised him, and he gasped. This is what could happen if Eras was to rise again? Wait, how did he know that? The stone. It must've been the stone. He blinked, and he was somewhere else. A cave, and he couldn't see anything until a strange blue torch light up.

Karasaad, spoke silently, "Hello?" He asked, searching the darkness with his eyes. His question reverberated through the cavern and back to him, "Hello?" The echo asked back. Karasaad made his way over to the torch and pulled it from the wall. He held the stone tightly in his other hand, and began to make his way into the depths of the cavern.

He stepped in water, and quickly pulled back his foot. "Dammit, scared the heck out of me." He said quietly, his voice echoing back. He continued into the puddle, which was huge. "Hello?" He asked again, raising an eyebrow. "Hello?" the echo returned.

Karasaad noticed that he couldn't levitate out of the water, and realized that something was suppressing him. He noticed the eyes and froze, looking around him at the others that had opened. "Stay away I've got a r- Gah!" As whatever had fluttered past him had, he stepped to the right and slipped. He splashed into the shallow water, and dropped the stone. He had kept the torch out of the water, but he had dropped the stone.

"Agh, where'd you go." He said under his breath while feeling around in the water with his open hand. He paused, and inhaled lightly. Something was in here with him. Something that he didn't want to see. What was it? Was it a demon? Was it some kind of alien creature that wanted his brain, or his eyeballs?

His hand felt something rough. Was it the stone? He squeezed it lightly.

Karasaad looked up at the great white eye, and stumbled backwards. He sloshed through the water, and kicked the stone back as he walked. He bent and picked it up quickly before looking back at the dragon. He avoided direct eye contact, as many animals see that as a challenge.

"I, uh, don't want any trouble." He said, holding his hands up into the air. He didn't let go of the stone of the torch. "I really don't." He said again, taking a step to the side. It bared it's teeth at him, and he averted his eyes to beneath the dragon. What was that? Some kind of box? A chest. Treasure. He could feel the stone pulling him towards the chest, and he took a step towards the dragon.

Why had he done that? He took a step back. He didn't know what to do. The stone had brought him here. Maybe the dragon could speak to the stone and know that Karasaad was on their side. He held the stone out towards the dragon, and stood straight to show that he was dignified. If it was a speaking dragon then he knew they respected the dignified individual. Most of them did, at least.

Karasaad fell to a kneeling position as the earthquake began to stop from falling. As a large stone smashed into the floor of the cave, Karasaad jumped forward, landing on the bank that the dragon had been on.

As the light faded, Karasaad opened his eyes and looked to the dragon who had now moved to the side of the cavern. In the dimming light, he watched the dragon burn and turn to ash which clouded the water. Had he done that? He took a big step back as another rock fell where he was standing, but something stopped his foot, causing him to fall.

He fell back, and slammed into the cracked stone that covered the tomb. It broke away, revealing whatever lie inside.

Karasaad felt a rock sticking into his back, and opened his eyes. The stones had stopped falling from the ceiling, and he was inside the tomb. He coughed, and stood. A sconce on the wall allowed him to slide the torch in and free up his right hand. He swiped it around to wave away the dust that was flying around in the air.

After it cleared and he could see better, a stone table was visible. On it was some gauntlets. They were a brilliant white, and looked sharp. "What are you?" He asked, grinning widely. They looked valuable. He approached them, and picked one up. He turned it in his hand and a bit of dust fell out of the open end. "I'll just borrow these from you." He chuckled, placing the stone down on the table to feel the gauntlet with both hands.

He didn't out it on, but looked tot eh stone, "Is this what you wanted me to find?" He asked it, raising an eyebrow. They were brilliantly crafted, and upon closer examinations the tips of the fingers were just as sharp as they had appeared.

He looked around at the mountains as they returned to his view, and then down to the gauntlets. "I guess theses are mine." He said, sliding them on his hands. They felt comfortable, and didn't weigh too much.

He turned his hands around and looked over them. They went well with the rest of his outfit, which was a plus. He wondered what they did. He though for a moment, perhaps they magnified his powers? He attempted to lift a rock that had fallen without concentrating on it, and blood spattered from his nose. He fell to his knees and brought his hands up to his face.

"No.. they don't do that." He said, wiping the blood off with his sleeve. He then thought. Perhaps they'd reveal their powers to him when they were ready. He then remembered what Demi had told him. He had to keep them secret, he didn't want Ry'nn to see them or she'd kill him. He went to remove them.

Karasaad looked down at the gauntlets in horror, "Di-Did you just speak to me?" He asked, feeling crazy for trying to talk to gauntlets in a serious manner. His nose bled a bit more, but slowed. The gauntlets had just spoken. It had said, "Why are you trying to remove me." Unless his blood had just spoken. Then that'd be even stranger.

He wiped the blood off of the gauntlets by wiping them on the grass. He came to the conclusion that it truly had been the gauntlets that spoke, so he explained himself, "There's a woman that if she sees me.. er, us, then she might kill me... er, us." He said, trying to count the gauntlets as a person.

He shuddered. Had the gauntlets spoken? Was he crazy? He must've been.

"Right.. uh.. thanks?" He said, removing the gauntlets. He slid them into a satchel with a bunch of trinkets that Karasaad had sold to travelers as good-luck charms and wards. He stood, and wiped the last of the blood off. "Damn, that was really dumb of me." He said, eyeing the boulder.

The young magician continued down the path, stopping to examine a big crawling across the ground. It had twenty legs. A good number. He picked it up, and bit into it. Tastes good. He said, finishing it off. It was sweet, but not too much so.

Karasaad eyed the rock, and lined himself up to it. All around the small open area were chalk drawings of various symbols that Karasaad knew would help him concentrate. In the ground he had dug a large circle, and filled it with different symbols and wards. On one side was Karasaad, the other, the stone. It was large and grey. About the size of a boulder. On Karasaad's hands, he wore beautiful white gauntlets that ended in clawed fingers.

He pointed his finger at the rock, and focused in on it. His eyes slowly began to glow blue, and his hair blew back as the boulder lifted off the ground. It rotated, and Karasaad began to use his other hand to lift the boulder higher. The gems and trinkets all over him also glowed brightly. Within his head it felt like a thousand hammers smashing into his brain simultaneously.

His face contorted, and blood quickly shot out and began to flow from his nose. He fell to his knees, and gripped at his face. The boulder came crashing down in a little rut that it had created. The young magician, attempted to stand and then fell back onto his knees. He could lift it higher, but it was becoming too dangerous. After a moment, he wiped the blood from his nose and stood. He had to brace himself on a tree to keep from falling back. The vertigo would subside momentarily, and he'd be able to try again.
