The University of Aquaria is arguably Langara's most prestigious educational institution, with an excellent job placement program and beautiful campus. These are the students, faculty, and staff.
The Aschen Empire, a massive collection of semi-sovereign provinces that reigns over a great portion of the Milky Way Galaxy, paranoid, arrogant, and cruel, a once prosperous nation spirals into poverty, and self-destruction.

Description

Caprica City has exploded.
"...Shit"

"What other options?" Kelby looked from the mob to Roana, to the buildings behind them. She was right, as much as it furrowed Roana's brow to consider it. They would have to push past the angry, screaming mob. With one last squeeze, they headed off down the street.

Survivor.

So begins...

"What's happening?"

It could have been a sonic boom, but Roana would never know. As she clutched her room mate, a woman named Kelby Heremosh working at Graystone Industries, her mind reeled. Outside, it sounded as if the whole world had gone mad. Another explosion rocked the street outside. A whimper escaped Kelby as someone opened fire on a building across the street. Would anyone make it out alive? What if the gunner opened fire on them next? Sure, they were behind a couch and whatnot, but what if?

"..EFT IN THE DARK..." An angry voice resonated off of the classy architecture. Even the beauty of Caprica City couldn't mask the ugly that went on tonight. More glass shattered somewhere. Sounds of the riot outside tried to break through the panes of their window. This apartment was a two bedroom, surprisingly cheap for it's location. Kelby and Roana had gotten along beautifully, and life was perfect as can be for the to Aschen citizens. Where had it all gone wrong?

For a fleeting moment, Roana's mind escaped to think of Braxton. Where was he? Was he part of the rebellion? She had denied it from the start, but her father had made mention at it every now and again. No, he was respectable. What would he be doing rebelling against the Divine Shadow? What sounded like a car bomb outside brought her back to reality. She forgot about Braxton, about the Diving Shadow, and thought about living until tomorrow.

Across the room, the phone rang. All displays lit up to reveal it as Roana's mother. She swore, glancing to Kelby, who nodded. Roana army crawled to the reciever, and slammed the button. "Mom?"

"Roana! Baby, darling, are th...." Her heart skipped a beat as her mothers voice faded out.

"Mom are you there?" More gunfire, a bright glow outside indicated something was ablaze. Kelby knocked over a table and slid cover across the room. They had to get out of here, get to safety. Were there evacuations?

"...ff planet, Roana have to get we have to go now off planet we now, Shera, we have to have to get Damnit Sher-" The apartment went black as a particularly loud blast went off outside. Roana and Kelby's eyes locked. Shouts from outside brought them back to reality. Where was their window? Roana's mother and father had been quarreling. Had they been telling them to get off planet? What? Why? Roana nearly couldn't believe it.

"Shit," Kelby slid for her purse, like it would do any good. Kelby was already by the door. Here goes nothin'. They swung open the door, prepared for the worst. Armed with their purses, if it mattered, two Aschen Citizens.

The sounds of explosions continued to rock the city streets as people looted storefronts and ran off with stolen merchandise. Black smoke bloomed and billowed into the skies above the city as roving gangs of people seemed to move like rivers of dredge through the streets of the city. The two citizens would find, once they left that cars had been overturned and people roved through the streets.

"The Divine Shadow's Abandoned us! They surrendered to the Coalition Empire!" An Angry citizen screamed, holding a civilian model plasma rifle into the air and firing off several shots with deafening pops.

"Run while you still can!" He screamed, before he started down the street to kick in a window and make off with whatever he could find. With Civil Defense nowhere to be seen, and much of the Military disoriented from the sudden surrender and lack of command coherency, it seemed the Empire was slowly coming apart at the seams and fragmenting.

El walked down the streets of the city it was chaos in her hands she held an M4 with magazines strapped and donned full combat gear. She was here in deep cover looking for a way to get back at the Aschen for the murder of so many Joes but this was just too good. A she saw a squad of riot police approaching the mob of looters and she raised her rifle not even pausing before opening fire with her explosive tipped rounds as a line of explosions brought a few of the cops down. She smirked before kicking in a door and wandering off through the chaos.

I'm only going after the officials, and I'm doing this for my fallen brothers and sisters. She though, now she needed to find a target worth attacking she wondered where the nearest armory was maybe there was some equipment worth blowing up. She kicked up a manhole and jumped down into the sewer her boots splashing into the murky shin deep water. She pulled up a map of the city and began to look it over.

Roana and Kelby ducked behind a car as they came out the front door, clutching each other close. What were they to do, where were they do go? She started to cough, taking cue from Kelby who had her shirt over her mouth. They didn't want to die like this, not here, not now.

What happened to Caprica City? What was once the beautiful land of glass and steel, sterile and sound against all odds had broken. Was this the descent into madness? Roana squeaked as a civilian fired off a pulse into nowhere. Dragging Kelby to a larger car for cover she cursed under her breath. Again her mind slipped to Braxton. Where was he in all of this? It was at this point she remembered her phone. Roana's heart skipped a beat, glass shattered in the distance.

"Where've we to go?" Roana shook her head in response. Kelby spoke up again, "The Graystone Building," It was only three blocks away, and Kelby was an employee. There were vehicles there, and communication stations. Kelby had an office at her disposal.

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the street. The two girls gripped for the car they were closest to as it rocked to their screams. Luckily they had both instinctively gotten low. A car had detonated three down, a wave of chaos and panic rippled through the crowding riot.

More gunfire.

The girls pushed that thought from their mind as they took off down the street, ducking from car to car, headed towards Graystone Industries. Would it still be standing?

A large ship would make it's slow approach on the planet of Langara, the ship was almost a thousand meters long, about five hundred meters wide. The ship radiated different energy, possibly using more than one way of powering itself and it's shields. The shields could absorb amounts of damage that would seem impossible, even with the technology available to the universe.

The ship began to speed up towards the planet, reaching a speed most large ships should be unable to reach. It was unclear to those watching or attempting to intercept ship where the unusually fast spacecraft was going at first.

That was until it reached the skies over Caprica City. Rioting and unrest from the city below was eclipsed by this new ship. Some would probably wonder who had arrived. New Aschen ships? Special forces maybe? Hadante?

It was something new. Something dangerous. Those who could tell that this wasn't aid were already fleeing or awaiting a fight with invaders or police attempting to stop them.

Whoever or whatever was inside the ship didn't seem intent on doing anything. One could wonder if the ship's arrival was just a ploy, keeping people distracted from something bigger.

Aschen Core Command
Queenstown, Picon

Caprica City;

The rioting continued, and it seemed Defenses were largely unresponsive to the single kilometer long ship. It wasn't until the Aschen High Command finally oriented itself following the surrender to the Coalition that something started to be done. At first the Aschen fleet would have new orders disseminated to it. A Series of bitstream signals broadcast from the Aschen fleet headquarters in Queenstown, Picon.

Queenstown, Picon;

Admiral Inviere had returned from her duties in the Aurora, instructing her fleet to remain so she could return to Aschen space and assume command.

Watching the screens from the main command center, she began to bark orders to various personnel, not before warning screens began to light up across the command room as the Admiral lowered herself into the fortified Bunker.

"Admiral, Unidentified Craft, unknown IFF, they're not UCON or Taiyou." A Lieutenant reported as the Craft moved over Caprica City. "It's positioned itself above Caprica City, intentions are unknown at this time." She said, the Admiral nodding.

"Send hostile challenge and ID." She said, leaning back in her chair. Radio towers in the city broadcasting a single transmission to the unknown alien ship.

"Attention unknown vessel, this is the Aschen Core Command. You are ordered to identify yourself and state your intention immediately, or defenses will be readied against you." She hailed firmly, turning to several other screens.

"This is Admiral Harkin of the Fleet of Rigorous Prayer, we're weapons hot and moving on an Intercept course." Inviere nodded. "Recieved, Admiral. Use caution when engaging the enemy ship, try to avoid Civilian collateral and damage to incoming CPF Assets." She said calmly, bringing up several command codes.

"Admiral." Another Lieutenant reported. "Van Graff Missile base is reporting hot and in the silos, they're ready to launch on your command."

Inviere nodded. "Affirmative." She then brought up the radio. "Commander Milos, hold fire until I give the command. Home fleet is on an intercept course." She radioed.

Milos reported on the phone. "Affirmative, Holding fire." He reported, and then Inviere leaned back, picking up the phone to the Ministry of Defense

"Chaska.." Helene answered.

"Minister Chaska... you're aware we're potentially under attack on top of this rioting?" Inviere said, her tone accusing as she watched the consoles.

Chaska nodded on the phone and replied. "I'm well aware of the situation, I've brought our defenses on high alert, Forces groundside are prepared for a protracted defense."

Inviere nodded. "Very well, I'll route portions of my fleet for an Orbital defense." She reported, then she lowered the phone.

"Lieutenant Mason, Get me SatCom." Inviere demanded, and another wireless phone was handed off to her.

"Commander Harris, I need you to adjust your ODP's axis, two one four carom one one nine, Target that unknown ship, partial power." Inviere ordered, the Commander promptly receiving the order.

"Relay commands to the Ion Cannon defense grid, I want everything we have on that ship." Inviere ordered, surely nothing could withstand the combined firepower of the Aschen's defenses, but with the ship so close to the city, Inviere's options were limited.

"Get the CPF on the line, tell them to quell that looting and to prepare for Evacuations. Caprica City's about to turn into a warzone."

A large ship entered the atmosphere above. Kelby noticed it before Roana did with a gasp. Roana angled her face skyward, eyes glazing as she took in the sight. Somewhere in her pocket, a familiar jingle sounded that she had received a text message. There was no time for that right now, though.

There was a particularly nasty looking mob swelling before them on the street. The girls had done a good job thus far of avoiding other citizens, for most of them had seemingly gone mad, but the crowd ahead looked...Well, troublesome. They both paused, and looked to each other.

"No," Roana shook her head, knowing that getting caught up in that mob was as good as a death sentence. Especially if the police amassed.

"What other options?" Kelby looked from the mob to Roana, to the buildings behind them. She was right, as much as it furrowed Roana's brow to consider it. They would have to push past the angry, screaming mob. With one last squeeze, they headed off down the street.

At first, they were able to finangle their way around the edges. Eventually the girth of the mob was just too large. It swayed and rocked, sometimes surging into a store front, other times filtering around a burning car. Everyone seemed to have something to say about the Divine Shadow, or UCON, or both. Kelby managed to doge in time, but Roana took an elbow to the head. Silently she ducked from the vision of the offender, who had already taken to ranting about exactly what he would do to the xeno that dare get in his way. They squeezed past the perimeter of a grouping of looters planning their next strike and continued through the growing crowd.

Kelby kept her eyes on the prize: her place of employment. Roana kept from glancing at the sky, from getting hit in the head, and from drawing too much attention.

"Damn it, I want these people off the streets," a woman's voice barked out over the din and commotion of the rioting mobs in the distance that still dotted the burning city.

The woman's uniform marked her as an Aschen marine, the staple of the Aschen ground forces, and while Shannon Bennet wasn't a particularly imposing woman on a physical level, nor an overly seasoned officer, what she lacked in size and years she made up for in the authoritative tone of her voice. She had a commanding air about her that when she spoke, it was plain to see that she expected to be listened to. While the Aschen High Space Command was mobilizing to address the threat of the unknown ship that had appeared within the planetary atmosphere, the marines were mobilizing to prepare in quelling ground disturbances.

"Give me that," she instructed as she took a comm device from one of her men. Flipping it on, her voice echoed up and down the neighboring streets as her voice was broadcasted through emergency channels.

"Attention citizens of Caprica City," she began. "This is Master Sergeant Shannon Bennet. You are instructed to clear the streets and to take shelter within the available bunkers. Standby for evacuation information. I repeat, you are instructed to clear the streets and to take shelter within the available bunkers. This is a harrowing time for the Aschen Empire, but you have not been abandoned. May his merciful shadow fall upon you."

Flipping the comm device off she scowled. The military, the CPF and the local law enforcement were mobilizing to try and restore order to the city, but the rioting continued unabated. With foreign ships present in Aschen space, it was looking more and more likely that the city would soon become a war zone.

"Get as many men as you can spare to assist the CPF and local law enforcement in getting these streets cleared," she told the man as she returned the comm device. "If this city is about to turn into a war zone, we don't want civilians running amok in the line of fire. Get them to shelter."

The ship remained still, it seemed to be waiting for something or the people inside were preparing something. As the Aschen attempted to make contact with the ship, the ship began to ascend slowly. One would probably assume it was getting ready to leave due to being contacted, but the ship stopped moving after a few seconds.

A hatch on the bottom of the ship opened up. But, the ship did nothing else. The open hatch led to darkness from below, the only thing seen inside were several mechanical arms seeming to grab and move things. Maybe it was a cargo ship, the ship didn't seem to have any immediately noticeable weapons on it.

That was until the mechanical arms began to lower from the hatch, they held a large egg-shaped object.

Soon the object began to drop from the mechanical arms, falling to the ground below. Upon contact with the surface it would explode, the effects of the explosion seemed to be devastating to a good portion of the city directly.

The shockwave from the explosion possibly flipping vehicles, compromising the foundations of buildings, sending people flying or bursting eardrums.

The Military response was swift once the initial explosion rocked the city. In the blink of an eye, hundreds of thousands of lives were suddenly extinguished. The City was suddenly rocked to it's foundation as the explosion blasted out buildings and flattened skyscrapers near the epicenter.

McKenna and the others near the Police station would be privy to the explosion. The dull thundering in the distance before the CPF Officer screamed. "Get down!" Before he grabbed the group and threw them to the floor as the shock-wave blew through windows and threw debris and papers all through the Police station.

It wasn't long before a second crack echoed through the city. But this one was different. In an automatic response, Van Graff Missile Base had responded to the sudden attack, diverting it's Anti-Orbital Magnetic Acceleration Cannon perched on a mountaintop it had locked onto the strange ship and it had opened fire, hurling a single high-caliber slug of ferric-tungsten towards the vessel. The speed was astonishing, and approaching light speeds, the projectile left a contrail of superheated plasma in it's wake, cutting slap through most shields and armor, and reducing the ship to slag in mere seconds.

The Sheer Kinetic energy of the projectile would enable it not only to cripple the ship, but punch a hole clean through the center. Afterall stopping a projectile with this much kinetic energy required near infinite energy and the thermodynamic energy released would vaporize the ship, and half the planet.

The Military of course watched and waited to see if the dust cleared and they would need to fire another shot.

Inviere watched the interference on the DRADIS, before she opened a Channel to Admiral Harkin. "Maintain approach, hopefully this did the trick."

Shortly after the initial blast, fires began to dot the city, and the wail of sirens echoed in the distance as First Responders mobilized to mitigate the damage.

Shortly after the attack, Televisions across the Aschen Empire were tuned into the Minister of Defense, Helene Chaska as she delivered her address to the Quorum, and the Aschen People;

Good evening.

Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very society came under attack in a deliberate and deadly terrorist act.

The victims were in the streets, or in their offices -- secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers. Moms and dads. Friends and neighbors.

Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of alien starships dropping bombs, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger.

These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of This Empire. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of Aschen resolve.

The United Aschen Empire was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for order, prosperity and opportunity in the galaxy. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of the Empire, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

Immediately following the attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in Caprica City and Delphi, to help with local rescue efforts.

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the galaxy from further attacks.

The functions of our government continue without interruption. Imperial agencies in Caprica which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight and will be open for business tomorrow.

Our financial institutions remain strong, and the Aschen economy will be open for business as well.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources for our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Quorum who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the Aschen people, I thank the many galactic leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

The Aschen Empire and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the galaxy and we stand together to win the war against terrorism.

Tonight I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us spoken through the ages in Zeus; 21:3: "Even though I walk through the valley of the impending doom, verily, i shall fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Aschen from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. The Aschen have stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time.

None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night and may his Merciful shadow, fall upon you.

Nothing looked good in the skies. A large, unfamiliar vessel loomed at large, casting a bleak shadow over everything. Other ships had begun to occupy the atmosphere, many shuttles were departing, many fires lined the horizon. Roana waited as Kelby cleared her way through the thick line of riot cops surrounding the building. They argued with Kelby at first, but thankfully she had presented her ID before actions were taken. They hadn't cleared Roana. She would need a pass, which was Kelby's top priority. The main atrium was crowded, but there was an easy path to the door. Eyebrows were raised, a co-worker waved, many were suprised she had made it at all it seemed. With a set jaw, she all but slammed her I.D. on the receptionist's desk.

"Need a guest pass."
The receptionist didn't look pleased at her phone conversation being interrupted. Her eyelids closed and wrinkled in an exagerated fashion as she reached slowly for the guest ID card. Sliding it across the counter, the woman tapped it twice before returning full attention to the phone call. It was her sister, by the sound of it. Kelby didn't care: she had to get back to Roana.

Outside, Roana waited impatiently in the crowd. They were mulling about, chanting of riots, while she stood in the mix of people between those spitting in the face of the assembled police. She was one of the people ready to fade through their ranks if the rioters did strike: ready to be protected. Her phone made a noise, indicating she had a message. That's right!

Roana fumbled her phone from her purse, slinging it back over her shoulder and tapping through the lock screens.

_Where r u

Braxton. Her heart skipped a beat, grasping the device in both hands and sweeping in a reply.

Graystone Indst. u safe? _

There she waited, staring at the phone, while inside Kelby fought through a crowd that had thickened while the receptionist recieved her. Where had this crowd come from? With a frustrated sigh she pulled out her research badge and began elbowing through. Had to get Roana, who outside was fully attended by her phone. Braxton had replied quickly; a good sign if there ever was one.

_4now. U?

Roana hammered in a reply, looking up as there was a noise. A strange noise. She nearly dropped her phone, but instead typed something else in and hit send. She then shoved the phone back into her bag. All around her, everyone else had taken to staring at the sky. Out of the large unfamiliar vessel descended arms. At least, they would be arms if they had been human. Fear and disgust crossed her face, the crowds began to grow silent. In the strange mechanical arms was an egg. It could be nothing good, for it was nothing familiar. Inside, many hiders by the window had gone silent at a child's shouts to "LOOK!" Kelby had made it to the door, and was negociating passage when they turned to observe the arms, the egg. Kelby screamed in horror.

The silent crowd raged at once, surging towards the Graystone Industries main building. Roana was caught in the shuffle, her bag at some point becoming detached from her. A heavily armed officer, possibly an army guy, grabbed her and flung to the ground with Roana. She had been far too busy watching, forever imprinting into her mind, what it looked like when a bomb was dropped.

The claw had let go.

Inside, everyone spilled into back rooms, downstairs, anywhere but where they were. Kelby managed to wrestle through two doors and find a spot in a toilet stall. The bomb was dropped and, for both girls, all turned to darkness.

Down the hall, as Kelby drifted to consciousness, there was activity. Why was she asleep, and why was she wet? It was cold and echoey where ever she was, and it was awfully dark...and her foot was asleep. In a...toilet? Yes, in a toilet. Her location had been identified, when she noticed she was surrounded in rubble. Bricks of some sort, and plaster possibly?

It all rushed back to her as someone sobbing not ten feet away was heard. They choked on their moans, babbling nonsense and shuffling around. The sobs turned to shrieks, shrieks with words and a name. Accusing shrieks that somehow sounded farther than she knew they were. Kelby cringed, as memories took place of irritation and wet shoes. There had been something large, they had all be staring outside at...

Roana.

Kelby scrambled, climbing under the fallen bathroom stall wall and over rubble from the collapsed corner of the room. Apparently she had chosen her safety place wisely. Rushing water began to mix with the sobs, as she realized her shoes were more than just wet. Her shoes were soaked. Had a sink...exploded? The cries morphed into wails. Kelby felt her way around the wall to the door, as the sounds of someone losing their sanity with their dead friend in their arms droned on. In the hall, low lights had activated along the floor in beans. People rushed by, but they still sounded far away. Had her hearing gone? She was slightly dizzy... It was dusty here...Not a good sign. Kelby pulled her shirt over her mouth. Mournfully, she thought of her friend.

Roana.

As she came to the main atrium lobby of the building, the breath left Kelby completely. Dust caked everything, and the air. Glass was shattered, people were strewn about. Corpses. She pulled her shirt over her mouth again. A broadcast could just be heard, she wobbled forth and angled an ear, as other survivors straggled to life. Kelby reached a grave conclusion, a single tear pushed a shining trail down her cheek. Through the dust, in silence, she grieved her loss.

Roana...was surely dead out there.

The ship was split by the shots that came towards, each one tearing part of the sip rather easily. This showed that the ship may have been made from an extremely weak metal or alloy. It was clear to the more seasoned soldiers and intelligence agents that the ship wasn't part of an invasion. It was the suicide bomber. The distraction.

One had to wonder what they were being distracted from. A group of enemy soldiers finding another way? Domestic terrorism looking to cease the opportunity presented by the rioting? It would be nothing but speculation for now.

The alien ship remained in the air for as long as it could, chunks of debris falling to the city below. Eventually the ship began to descend, it lost any power it had remaining and was on a crash course with Caprica. Debris continued to fall, the ship's bridge and most of it's front half descending towards the outer regions of the city.

Upon contact with the city buildings, people, vehicles, wildlife were all mowed down by the ship,.Pieces of metal tearing apart from the spacecraft, littering much of the area with debris. It was safe to say that the rioters were being given a chance to prolong their dissent.

The military, CPF and local law enforcement were going to have a lot to deal with.

"Get back!"

The dust hadn't time to settle before a surge of authority pushed everyone back into the building. Down a hall, through a door, it didn't matter where anyone went so long as they had their life. Caught in a tidal wave of limbs and panic, Kelby was forced down staircase after staircase. She descended with the others down to the bowels of the building. Elbows stuck in her ribs, she threw them in return. Nobody meant to harm one another, it simply happened here. All were agitated in the great shuffle towards safety.

Plaster and paint chips rained on their heads as the building shook again. Screams echoed through the stairwell, Kelby was lucky enough to catch on the suits of a couple burlier men. Pressure from above urged her downward some more. She grit her teeth and reached for a hand rail, moments later the lights flickered and died.

A scream escalated into many as darkness overwhelmed the stairs. Kelby squeezed her eyes shut, thankful the building was no longer shaking, but fearing for her life. When would the security lights go on, damnit, she thought to herself. She let loose a sob, the hall began to illuminate. It seemed some people still had technology on them, phones and electronic data organizers.

"Ev'rone Alright down there?" A man's voice called down from a level or two above. There were still cries of terror, wails of fear. Men and women screeched for their lost loved ones. Over the depression someone called in a broken limb, a few more chimed in. Many were shouting to their neighbors, half deaf from the blast.

A murmur began to descend through the crowd.
"What do you mean, leveled?" One person said, outraged.
"We're all going to die!" Wailed another, instantly shushed by their less hysteric neighbors.
"Everyone remain calm," Someone else implored the mass of people.

The stairwell was a narrow sea of technological light and human worry, save the single dark particle that was Kelby. Everyone else tried to orientate themselves with the situation, a task which had Kelby's eyes glazing over. Her thoughts escaped through the newly created cracks in the building, floating in the midst of outside's destruction.

Expressionless, the woman was ushered through the bottom doorway of the stairwell by others. Her body felt not her own, as if she were a zombie. It made sense, given the recent events. Coughing, blinking against dust and what little light there was, Kelby folded her shirt over her mouth. Where were they going? Everything was dust and debris at the surface, burrowing lower seemed the only attempt for clean air. What worried her was the darkness.

The soldiers that had identified themselves worked to move the shocked citizens into rooms in the basements of the building. One whispered something to the other, then broke off down a hallway.

"Alright everyone," The remaining Aschen soldier addressed the tittering crowd, "We're safe down here. There's a back way out," He pointed in the direction the other soldier had disappeared in, "Which we are to explore shortly. We've got this!" Despite the general atmosphere of fear, he tried to smile. Kelby looked down the hall as the crowd muttered approval.

In a fortified bunker just paces from The Haven Nightclub, Braxton Mortemira frantically swiped through his phone. He finally located the text conversation he sought. It was with his girlfriend, of course, and he wanted to know if she was alright. Thank goodness his phone had survived their travels. Only half battery, but it would have to do.

_Roana, babe, pls respond

Gerard was gone. Braxton wondered where, surveying the others around him and thinking about what lie beyond the bunker walls.

In a completely different part of Caprica City and underground, Kelby Heremosh and a band of survivors listened intently to the soldier that returned.

"Alright, there's tunnels, beyond a door. We need an access card," The soldier looked to his counterpart, "Unfortunately it denied my rank access." The other swore, which meant his card would be denied too. Kelby didn't even know this door existed, and doubted she had access. Patting herself down, she realized her card was missing anyway.

The soldiers addressed the crowd: "Is there anyone who has access to this door?"

And then, as if Zeus himself had heard their pleas and had answered their prayers at the most opportune moment, the sound of shouting could be heard from farther down the tunnels.

"Anyone here? Any survivors in this bunker?"

The Langaran refugees would be greeted to the sight of Tech Con rescue workers and guards, easily overriding the bunker's security clearance and freeing the trapped survivors. They'd brought food and medical supplies with them, and quickly began distributing the rations among the masses.

"Alright, alright, take it easy," a relief worker addressed the crowds, "eat all you like, but not too fast. We're gonna take this slow, kay'? No going up all at once. There's still a frak-ton of radiation above ground, so we're going to extract you nice and slow."

Another Tech Con agent tapped the worker on the shoulder. "We just checked Bunker 304. All dead."

The worker swore under his breath. "What about the one on Main?"

"Twelve survivors. Not a lot to go with."

"Great Hera. Tell the chief to head towards that one beneath the Haven Nightclub. I'm pretty sure that one was stocked with enough food to keep em' lasting."

Another worker overheard them talking and ran up to the pair. "I dunno' man, I heard every refugee in that shelter died. Not worth Hagan's time to look into it."

"Is there any way we can know for sure if there are still survivors in the Haven bunker?"

Kelby grabbed a ration, but held it in deft hands. They were saved, and it seemed like a miracle.

"Shit, are you serious?" One of the Aschen Soldiers said to the Tech Con agent. "We were hit pretty bad, huh?" He then continued on to help the relief workers distribute goods and keep order.

"Thanks for the rescue," The second soldier smiled grimly. "Haven bunker? That's way out the way of the chaos I heard." He pointed in a random direction, since they were underground. Kelby overheard the word Haven and looked up. Hadn't...

Hadn't Rex been there? Yeah, actually, I'm pretty sure Roana- Kelby's stomach clenched. She didn't have Rex's number, but Roana did. She was...outside. But... Maybe there was a chance...No.

"My friend," She spoke before she could stop herself, "Outside. Her boyfriend was at The Haven Nightclub. They were um," She looked down then up again as the crowd began to look at her. "...Texting."

Outside Graystone Industries, a cell phone would ring.

And that cell phone would, unfortunately, continue to ring without pause. No one would answer it. No one was there.

After Kelby confirmed that there were, in fact, survivors in the Haven bunker, Tech Con was quick to dispatch a rescue operation to the location. Dominic Hagan himself accomponied this one. Tech Con's humanitarian efforts in Caprica was HIS project, after all. He felt he ought to be among the workers first-hand. He owed this city that much, at least.

Much like at Kelby's bunker, Tech Con came in with fire and fury. They quickly distributed rations and medicine among the survivors, listing out a detailed extraction plan and attending to the wounded. Dominic Hagan moved from refugee to refugee, shaking hands and asking questions. Although his movements were methodical, there was a sincere empathy in his movements, as if he were really putting his heart into this.

In time, he came to Braxton.

"You okay?" he asked, offering a wrapped food ration to the man who hardly looked a day older then he was. He offered the Aschen a sympathetic smile. "You look worried. Aren't you happy you're getting out of here?"

Braxton continued to stare at his phone, despite the relief efforts. He didn't wait in line, as he was fine, but instead waited for a response from his love. Though he didn't spot the girl, Gerard walked by and shot him a half smile. He seemed to be headed somewhere.

"Huh? Yeah," Braxton looked at his peer through hard eyes, "What's it like out there?" He then looked back to his phone.
"I'm..." It seemed foolish but, no, "Waiting for a text."

Kelby clutched the survivors packet and watched as they dispatched for the Haven Nightclub. With pain in her heart she wondered if Rex even survived. Looking around as people broke off into huddles, Kelby shed a tear for Roana. The woman then settled alone into a corner, placed her head in her arms on her knees, and waited for slow extraction. Silently the woman wept.

Dominic shrugged. "Lil' hot. Bout two hundred degrees Celsius. Best to wear sunscreen." He smiled, looking down at Braxton's phone. The poor boy was waiting for the call of a loved one... a call he'd likely never get.

A Tech Con trooper walked over to Dominic. "Sure, the last of our refugee camps in Leonis has been filled. We're out of places to put these people."

Dominic turned to the trooper. "Send whoever's left to my private estate. I'll attend to them personally."

"Yes sir."

Dominic turned back to Braxton. Most of the other refugees were filing in line for processing. He needed to get this kid moving now... else he might never get up again.

"Hey," he called out softly, "hey, what's your name?" He offered his hand to the young man. "Let me help you up. We're going to get you out of here, alright? Can I do that for you?"

Braxton's heart dropped. Not survivable for anyone. If she wasn't in a bunker, she wasn't alive. He clenched his jaw at the thought, gripping his phone even harder. She would respond. She had to respond.

"Braxton Mortemira," He let himself be helped, figuring Gerard could look out for himself.

"Yeah, alright."

Kelby continued to cry for the loss of her life, and the unknown of her future.

"Braxton Mortemira," Dom smiled, "my name is Dominic Hagan, and I am honored to serve you." He helped Braxton to his feet, leading him through the thronging masses of refugees. "I'll take this one myself," he nodded towards a Tech Con guard. He would lead Braxton through the tunnels of the bunker towards the landing pad. A Kevlin force field kept the incredible radiation heat from getting into the bunker. Up ahead, a Tech Con transport awaited them.

"Do you have any family own in the bunker with you, Braxton?" Dominic asked as he lead the boy towards the ship, "anyone else that I can arrange to stay with you when we arrive at my manor?"

---

Eventually, a kind-faced Tech Con agent would kneel down in front of Kelby and lightly touch her shoulder.

"Come on ma'am," he smiled at her, "come on. It's time to get up. It's time to let go. Come on. The world won't get fixed in here." He offered her his hand.
