Description

"Magicians are normally pretty-" He whipped a look over behind his shoulder, then lowered his voice. Mustn't speak to loud about others, especially when they are right across the room. "They're normally pretty cool, but this isn't just a normal magician. I don't know exactly how far his talents go," Kethyr again glanced behind him. Reaching back into his pocket, he pulled out another card. This one was different from the card that already lay on the table. It was not a business card, but a playing card. He placed it face down. The back of the card's decoration was so intricate, one might need a microscope to see the design. "He left me with this, after disappearing in a puff of orange, rum flavored smoke," Kethyr whispered, wrinkling his nose at the memory.- Kethyr Naethus on Merphin Dazzle in Gambit's Bar

Kethyr Naethus followed after the Beast and Jake, keeping his eyes on her. He didn't fully trust the Beast, not after what she did to him, but it appeared he had no choice. They were family, if not by direct blood by unfortunate circumstance. "She's our elder," Kethyr spoke with disdain, senses heightened.

Part of him wanted to approach the woman, no not woman. Beast. Instead, he chose to saunter up to a fire pit, and poke at it with his toe. He had yet to turn his back on the woman, and couldn't help but find her strangely beautiful. But no, she was the cause of all of this, and for that, he couldn't help but hate her.
- Kethyr Naethus in the Cursed Wood

She had told the whelp that was tailing her around the city that he could not learn to fight with the wolf-mind, if he did not first learn to fight as a man. There was truth to it, for without humanity to temper the beast one would inevitably succumb to madness.- Maria Raghild on Kethyr in the Master's Dojo

"You are an idiot child," Maria snapped. "You have no understanding of the wolf-mind, and no weapons. How is it you plan to fight?" she demanded. She shoved him to the ground, stepping closer to loom over top of him. There was something menacing in her movement and her posture, something feral and hostile. For several moments she glowered at him, assessing him. "You cannot learn to use the wolf-mind if you cannot even use your own. You will learn to fight as a man, and then maybe, maybe you will learn to use the wolf-mind." She stalked away towards the city, leaving him to stay or follow as he chose.- Maria Raghild

You can't just deny your responsibility like that,
he snapped,
To me. Ulfhednar. I may be of the south but I am no,
Kethyr spit boldly, surprised at himself,
Whelp.

Again he shoved the fur forth.
You.

He pounded after her, raging.

No.
He threw the fur at her now blocking her path with his lack of bulk.
You.

He almost didn't flinch, but couldn't help it if his eyes fluttered as she stepped toward him like that. Still, he listened to her words, growing hot in the face. He was an abomination, not human, not beast, and yet he was still denied the one thing he sought: A shred of purpose.

The fur fell to the ground. It broke his heart. A tear squeezed itself from his eye as she moved away, he brushed it off with a fist. Kethyr was about to turn, about to stop and grab her, when he saw it.

The blurple smog. He halted, senses heightened, and sniffed. Listened. Were those... His eyes grew wide as the smoke drew closer, as what was happening registered. They were in danger. He growled, every hair standing on end. Kethyr turned, blasting past the fur, reaching out and grabbing Maria on the shoulder. The sound that came from him next wasn't a word, but it wasn't a bark. It was an alarm.

"No!" He ripped himself from her and faced the danger, eyes wet with emotion still. He would prove he was a real wolf, a fighter yet.

The danger approached, and Maria was coming towards him. They couldn't leave now! This was his chance!

"I've got this," He all but whined, clenching his fists. Did he got this? Probably not, but the young manwolf was too compromised to think a straight line.

He whimpered, and turned scarlet as the sound of his own weakness fell upon his ears. He was a coward, a weakling, hot in the face and hot in the heart. She was sending him away, and as he glared he realized he had no choice.

Kethyr growled once, before turning on his heel and retreating to Wing City. Another tear was wicked from his cheek by the wind. He let it go, damning himself all the while.

He had his hands on his knees and was catching his breath when she struck. He fell, weakened, just catching himself as he took her harsh words. A scowl sat on his face, more of a pout, really the face of Kethyr holding out on hysterics.

He wanted to cry under her scrutiny. An outcast and abomination, not even good enough for the one who did this to him. He was a mistake, even here. Not a fighter, not even a real man. Just an ex desk jockey trying to re-find himself. He was something worth abandoning.

There he sat in the dirt, with nothing, as nothing. Could he learn to fight as a man? His heart skipped a beat at the thought. He pulled himself to a stand. She was leaving, of course. But was she abandoning him? I'd abandon me, Kethyr thought to himself drawing in a breath. Almost immediately following that thought was another.

No.

It came from somewhere within him. No. A single word with a life changing idea. He was not going to abandon himself. He was not going to adapt this...This...This attitude. Kethyr walked after Maria, picking up the pace as he thought again, No.

Kethyr stayed a pace behind her, silent, waiting for her notice. He would follow her until she did, until she saw that he could be a fighter, that he was a wolf. He was one of them.

Despite the late hour, the Dojo was fairly active with a range of visitors occupying the large open building as they paired off against one another. The clang of steel and the grunts of people hitting the mat filled the room, but Maria paid it little mind.

It was the wide weapons rack that took up a large portion of one wall that occupied her attention. She had once been a renowned swordswoman, but that was a time long ago and it had been decades since she had so much as held a sword in her hands. As the wolf-mind grew in fervor, the need for such weaponry gave way to more primal methods of combat - though far less disciplined.

She had told the whelp that was tailing her around the city that he could not learn to fight with the wolf-mind, if he did not first learn to fight as a man. There was truth to it, for without humanity to temper the beast one would inevitably succumb to madness.

She chose a longsword at last. She had typically favored two-handed weapons that could take advantage of her physical strength, but she liked the versatility of the longsword. She held it up to get a feel for its weight and balance before giving it a deft twirl. The weapons were dulled for the purpose of training and it lacked the heft she seemed to recall for a blade of its size, but it would suffice.

Stryfe was supposed to be joining here soon enough.

Stryfe stepped into the dojo, a flock of bodyguards and Invictus soldiers surrounding her as usual. Most eventually broke off from the woman, moving to take positions around the building, to find seats and watch other spars going on.

Stryfe approached Maria, offering the woman a bright smile. "Hello." Stryfe said to the woman. For once she wasn't dressed in her combat gear or a suit. The woman wore tight black t-shirt, an equally black corset and a pair of black tights, on her feet a pair of black Reebok's.

"Ready for this little battle?" Stryfe asked Maria.

"It has been a while," Maria admitted as she glanced up the length of the longsword.

This foray had been at her own request. Lobos and Rynhart's urgings for her to move forward and to leave the past lie held validity, but so to was there value in rediscovering her roots. Swordplay, smithing, these were human skills that had once been hers, and they could be hers again.

She nodded briefly to Stryfe.

"I am ready."

"As am I." Stryfe told Maria, one of her soldiers approaching with a sheathed swords. The sword's basic design was clearly inspired by a katana, but it was thicker and longer than the average katana was.

Stryfe grabbed hold of the weapon, unsheathing it from it's place carefully. "I

"I'm going to enjoy this, it's been a long time since I had a good spar." The Invictus leader told Maria.

Kethyr sat silently, heeding Maria's words. So he had to learn to fight before he was to be accepted, so be it. The first step was observation, and he would prove to be a good student, or die trying. Kethyr had a goal, had his eye on the prize. On the only possible future.

Hungrily he eyed the sword, then cast his eyes down as Stryfe approached. It was time to officially settle into his corner. There he sat, cross-legged on the ground, well out of the way. Still, more swords were presented. The ex-nerd did his best not to drool. Learning the craft of the sword would be a certain perk to his fate.

He was eager to watch the spar.

"Very long," Maria seconded lowly.

She caught site of Kethyr out of the corner of her eye, but she paid the individual little mind. His increasing presence was a point of irritation that she could not seem to be rid of, but neither would the whelp survive on his own. Just the thought of the boy being of her blood line was enough to rile her. He would never claim the name of Ulfhedinn, but perhaps he would learn to survive so she could sooner be rid of him.

She brought her sword up and widened her stance, choosing perhaps uncharacteristically so a defensive one. There was a familiarity to the weight of the blade in hand, and her form was on mark, but there was caution in her wolfish gaze as she leveled it upon Stryfe.

Stryfe nodded to Maria, taking up a stance of her own. The stance was comparable to those that would be took by someone doing Olympic fencing or one of the Three Musketeers in most films.

Stryfe lost her smile, her expression was suddenly stone cold. This was the Stryfe that was a soldier, not the Stryfe who had been meeting with politicians, generals and Rhea.

Quickly the woman advanced on Maria, thrusting her sword forward at the woman's chest. It was clear she was seeing how close Maria was to her, making sure not to be too close or too far from her opponent.

Maria shifted her weight and met Stryfe's blade with her own, but she didn't follow up on the parry to push the offensive as she instead returned her sword to a guarded position. The clang of steel hardened her own eyes as she began to circle to Stryfe's side.

Battle was something Maria had lived for, almost since she could walk. That had never changed, only the tools she implimented. It was clear that she was getting a feel for Stryfe, as surely as Stryfe was getting a feel for her.

As she eyed Stryfe behind studious and observant eyes, she couldn't help but wonder over the woman's knowledge of swordplay.

"You are Invictus. Why did you learn the sword?" she asked, though still circling with an almost feral grace to her steps.

She had seen the destructive capability of the modern weapons at the Invictus' disposal, and she could not deny their efficiency.

"We are fighters first and foremost." Stryfe told Maria as she lunged toward her, swinging her own sword towards the woman's waist. "We have to be ready to fight all kinds of battles. Sea, land, air, gun, sword, knife, fist and bone."

Stryfe also enjoyed swordplay. The woman's specialty was thinking. Tactics, strategy, planning ahead, sword fighting allowed her brain to keep on working.

Again Maria twisted to meet Stryfe's blade, this time following up with a retaliation of her own as she pressed the brief opening. One, two, three, four times the blades rang out, and Maria seemed set to hold her own - that is until she stepped into a counter strike that left Stryfe's sword past Maria's defenses and leveled at her chest.

The northern woman had skill, but it was rusty yet.

She stepped back and gave her sword a twirl as she fell back into stance to have another go. The wolfish gleam in her eyes took on an amber hue as she readied herself.

"Versatility," Maria noted, her voice having dropped several octaves with the swirl of color that filled her grey irises. "The Ulfhednar are taught that anything is a weapon, in the hands of a warrior."

Kethyr Naethus followed his nose, wherever it goes, and it lead him to this place of memories. There was a town, he didn't remember that, and they let him in, which was even more odd. The place reeked of bloodsucker scum. But there, slipping into Tauvyr Tavern, was the smell. He followed it in and took a seat. Kethyr for the first time in a long time realized he, too, smelled very...bad.

's nose wrinkled at the sensory overload as he fought to maintain his stoic, professional complexion. Kodan could smell it too, however. Undead. Not exactly his first idea of a safe place, especially considering his Lycan appearance. But the paper he had found when he first got into town had told him of the Tauvyr Tavern, with open positions for a waiter. He had the experience for it, whether he wanted it or not. And his new life might as well start on an interesting chapter.

Kethyr kept to the corners of the room. He slinked onto a bar stool, ragged clothes catching the disgusted eye of a few customers. He took no notice. Instead, the ginger haired gentleman bore holes into Kodan.

It had been years, but here in the bar was one of him.

Kodan, while looking over the bar for a person who worked there, could feel knives being stared into his back. His eyes closed as he sighed, rolling them back into his head before opening them back up, straightening up his back to turn and find the culprit making his skin crawl. He saw, and smelled, Kethyr staring wide eyed at him. Kodan cleared his throat, clearly looking a bit annoyed by the sudden attention. "May I be of assistance, sir?"

Kethyr Naethus fished a dented coin from his pocket and flicked it into the fountain, making a wish.
