King of Dogs

Howl howl, sugar

0 · 692 views · located in Tauvyr Tavern

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by CrashQueen

Description

The King of Dogs, or Perro familiarly. A post-apocalyptic hellhound, hailing from a very different time and place. Spectral in nature, kind of like a bizarro Black Shuck, standing at around 8 feet at the haunches. He is truly a monster.
Have a cute sketch

Image

This is his human form. When he's not wearing the mask he keeps his face shaded by his hood. He probably looks handsome but who would care to pester him?

Image

Personality

He is smart as a whip and well-learned, having once been a man in a past-life.
But he very rarely shows it because being a dumb animal is so much easier.

So begins...

The hellhound in human manifest glanced at the door at the sound of the scratching, before his lips curled into a grin matching the one on his mask. "Well well, now things have gotten INTERESTING~"
He pulled his mask down, leaving an empty glass on the bar, as he stood up, cracking his knuckles and opening his palm so that his vorpal pike might manifest in it. If you could call a sharpened road sign a pike at all.
"Lookit the little puppies~" he purred at the beasties. "Good good, I was getting hungry."

Noisemaking, always with the noise making. The King of Dogs adjusted his crown and cracked his back before charging forward at the littlest monster, his spear at the ready. He banked left as it snapped at him, and he brought the sharp point of his eapon to the creatures neck, aiming to skewer it sideways.

He countered the pack leader's shriek with his own, throaty howl. "Arrrooooo!!!"

Perro released his pike and let it stay in the smallest beast to prolong its suffering as he shook his head and jumped backwards from the two advancing dog-things. If they were looking for a real dog-eat-dog showdown, they had come to the right place.
"Rock n' roll~" he grinned beneath his mask. "Let's light this fucker up!"

He changed from the head down, his mask melting into bone and hollow eye sockets, crowned not by the thorns he wore but sharp, jackal-like ears and a mane of silky white hair soon to be stained with monatuk blood. The grin remained permanently fixed on his skull face as he grew, larger and larger still, his spine deforming and snapping, as did his limbs as he fell forward onto soft paws. Sinew and muscle bristled under more bony armor, chest heaving as the King of Dogs inhaled before opening his own jaws wide and letting out an
UNHOLY ROAR.

The two monatuks would advance again, but this fight was over long before it began as the nuclear hellhound descended on them with a flash of fangs.

The hellhound snorted at the lousy fight the others had put up. He didn't even have to pant. He nosed their lifeless corpses over to the fireplace for later before turning and staring down the pack leader, a low growl rumbling from his throat, his fur puffed. Submit, submit or die, he seemed to be saying.

And then, to emphasize his point, he moved to the littlest monatuk and gripped it in his teeth, pulling it free from the spike that impaled it through the throat before shaking his head, worrying the poor thing like a favorite chew toy before tossing it up in the air and catching it, dispatching the thing in a few, practicised swallows that made his jaws pop. Snacks.
"Hnnnnnf."

The hellhoubd advanced, lower to the ground, his belly sagging with the weight of the pack leader's smallest brother. He bared his fangs just the same, another growl rolling out from him, reeking of monatuk blood. The beast was still hungry, and he would savage the hell out of this other dog-thing if it did not roll over immediately. The monstrous Hound cracked his jaws back together, taking another step forward.
Bow down, fuckin' peasant. Hail hail the King of Dogs.

The hellhound backed off of the submissive monatuk for all of a few seconds before placing a heavy paw on the creature's belly and leaning his muzzle in very close. A pink tongue rolled out and licked across the creature's throat and head before Perro rolled the beast over and grabbed it by its scruff and dragged it over to the fire to join its dead brethren.
The hellhound pinned the smaller creature beneath his paws and occasionally gave it more humiliating licks before burping in its face the scent of the smallest one, the last breath of air from its lungs.
God Perro you're mean.

The hound regarded the dragon lightly. He was still larger, but he had a half-full belly, two other courses laid out for him, and something to lay on by the fire. He shifted the monatuk until it was underneath his swollen belly and let it squirm there. Nice massage, fit for the superior canid.
He tore into his meal with gusto, staining his jaws red and filling that corner of the bar with the stink of open monatuk body. He wagged his tail as he did so, such a happy puppy.

King of Dogs watched the altercation while munching away. Dinner and a show, bravi bravi! He tilted his head at the living snowman. Hailing from the post-nuclear war desert, he'd never seen such a thing.

King of Dogs moved, dragging his captive with him, closer to the fire to warm his body up. Sometimes he could swear e was part-reptile, for all the heat-basking he did. A loud CRUNCH rang through the bar as he chewed at one of his dinner's legs, splintering bone with ease to lick out the marrow.
And still he wagged his tail.

"It's all just compensation," Perro chuckled from his corner, finally finding the time to actually speak. Although 'speak' was a very loose term for what he did. More like a public mental broadcast, but whatever.
He still thought he was at least the King of Dogs. It just sounded cool.

Monsters you say? The hellhound entered the bar, as if on cue, yawning and curling his pink tongue as he padded to the firepllace to settle in, still smelling monatuk blood that wasn't quite scrubbed out of the rug there. He chuckled at this and tucked his paws beneath him and observed the patrons that existed, thinking about what he might order tonight.
Howl, howl, sugar. The King of Dogs has arrived.

Perro only forced his will on others when they deserved it or they challenged his alpha status. But as far as he was concerned, he was literally the top-dog in the bar. He shifted to warm another side of his large fluffy yet bony body, his exposed muscle rising and falling with steady exhalations.
Even still, he was a formidable presence, taking up nearly all the space by the fire.

Perro entered the bar clutching what appeared to be a dead feathered something in his jaws. It was much too large to be any bird, given it filled his baretrap mouth quite nicely- and at 8 feet at the shoulder, he was far from the size of an average dog.

He approached the bar and the wary NPC server on hand with a wagging tail, pleased as punch that he made such an awesome kill and retrieval. He released his quarry onto the bar to reveal itself to be a small gryphon, it's neck snapped.
He rumbled out some words, "I hear y'clean and prepare things like this here...." and asked about the cost. The King of Dogs was quite famished now, his monatuk feast but a memory. He didn't want to deal with the sopping mess of fur and feathers his quarry was destined to become.

He turned to observe the bar once his demands were being met. Humans were typical here, though he didn't know why, this place seemed too dangerous for them, especially for that little girl, if his eyes weren't deceiving him.
The wolf though. That could be fun indeed. It wasn't that Perro didn't like other dogs...he just liked to make sure he was given the respect he was due.
Since he wasn't a chief demi-entity in this plane, the least he could do was make some pups roll over.

Perro wouldn't dream of hurting a little girl. Innocent as innocent gets. He much rather hunt down those with a streak of evil in them and deliver a bit of karmic retribution. But for now, lookie here, he caught himself a gryphon and that was an achievement.
He decided against any intelligent drivel for the time being, and sniffed the air, the scent of bacon still lingering about. Mmm bacon...Maybe it'd go well with the gryphon once the semi-talented chef in the kitchen cleaned it for him.

He moved towards the wolf and little girl with soft footfalls before sitting down in front of them and tilting his skullhead to the side as if confused. Still, what was a little girl doing in a dangerous place like this? Also, a tame wolf? First time he'd seen that here.
He gave a small woof in greeting before wagging his tail again, jackal-like ears perked forward.

Perro gingerly lifted his paw to let her inspect it further. His claws looked like they were made of cut obsidian, black and sharp to an edge, but dulled just enough at the tips from his travels so they wouldn't hurt anybody unless he put force into his swipe. Though he was a lot of bone, he was still a great deal of fluff as well, especially around his neck and shoulders, and his paws, where silk-like hair flowed and flickered from his heels like smoke. His paw-pads were massive and black, but very soft.

That described Perro pretty well. Hard yet soft at the same time, bone and muscle and floof married perfectly together to be both frightening and endearing all at the same time. He continued to wag his tail, liking Elisia's admiration. He was a very handsome mutt indeed.

"Oh no don't do that!" Perro finally spoke once the girl had injured herself, probably startling her with the fact he COULD speak. Well, speaking was a loose term for what he did- given his mouth didn't move at all. He wasn't telepathic either, since anybody else could hear him and it wasn't a mind-to-mind connection or anything. He clicked his tongue, however, and his ears swished back as she ran her bloody fingers through his nice white fur.
"Why are you here in this place anyway, little girl?"

"I suspect that you are not sound of mind...." He stood up, moving his fur out of reach of her bloody hands and his claws embedded firmly into the floor where she could not cut herself on them again. "Or quite possibly...." he trailed off, giving an investigatory sniff. "Not a little girl at all."

He didn't know what is was, but once her blood started flowing, he could sense some bad juju floating around Elisia. "Most people don't voluntarily cut themselves- so now you have me suspicious, girlie."

He puffed up his fur and remained on the warier side as he moved from her just as his meal was laid out on the floor by the bar, the once regal-looking gryphon stripped of its feathers and fur, declawed, and de-grimed, looking no different than the other animal carcasses found shrinkwrapped in grocery stores, cut up at all the right spots. It was quite skilled butchery. Perro reminded himself to leave a tip for the meatsman.

He settled down by the gargantuan plucked bird and took one of its limbs in his jaws, teeth neatly cleaving meat from bone as he wagged his tail again, looking perfectly adorable with his new chewtoy.

The hound growled a little possessively over his meal and the creepy vibe Elisia now gave off, even as he kept his posture overall welcoming. Worse came to worst, he figured he could easily overpower the little girl, given she was maybe not even a fourth of his entire size. But she came over anyway, and he cursed himself for being too adorable in his natural state.
He briefly thought about switching over, but there was no way he could finish off his gryphon at that size.
That meant that he'd have to get, oh god forgive my pun, a doggie bag.

Since it appeared that Elisia would not leave him in peace any time soon, he complied with her request, using his front teeth to delicately sniff off a piece from the haunches of the prepared gryphon and spitting it out in front of her like a wolf would regurgitate chunks of meat for its pups.
He didn't stop to think that maybe humans (if she was human) couldn't process raw meat. He was sharp, but when food was involved he turned a bit more bestial and dim-witted. Oh well. It wouldn't be HIS problem.
He stuck his snout into the belly of the carcass and started scarfing down the softer parts.

The hound watched the little girl try to be a proper carnivore with an amused look on his face. It was an awful lot like watching a kid try ANY sort of new food, and, just like she had, reject it after a few chews. "Fussy fussy," he teased as he pulled his own face from the gryphon's belly, his muzzle stained with dark red blood that he licked off.

His ears swished to pick up the sounds coming from Anodyne's gaming device, and his head followed suit. Color him intrigued! He picked up the gryphon and moved it out of sight so no other meat-eating beastie would steal his hard-earned meal and loped over to Anodyne, watching the game over her shoulder, and probably casting a formidable shadow across her. Familiar, so very familiar, but he couldn't remember why.
He kept silent, preferring to speak very little unless it was needed to clarify.

The King of Dogs moved to sit in front of Anodyne now, still trying to place why the gaming device in her hand was so familiar to him. It felt anachronistic in a way; out of place and time- but it shouldn't have. He didn't dwell on it too much, and instead opted for the slightly more invasive sniff-over by the way of greeting the woman.

He sniffed at the device, trying to make sense of it. The electronic impulses around it tingled his bony muzzle pleasantly. His first instinct was to eat it and he wondered why, but after a small, investigatory lick of a few of the buttons, he decided against it. He placed a paw on it and accidentally shut it off.
Shit.
He glanced at Anodyne apologetically before pushing it over. He met plenty of humans, but they were talking long before he was- Anodyne seemed to communicate non-verbally like other canines, and he was fine with this state of affairs. He woofed once, sharp and quick before perking his ears forward, waiting for the woman's response.

So she did speak! That was an interesting development. The King of Dogs leaned forward just a bit more before speaking himself, keeping his voice just as soft as not to startle Anodyne nor let people in on their speech that she seemed keen to keep hidden given her volume. "Hello....human." he greeted, not sure what else to call her.
He gave his tail a cautionary, slow wag.

He didn't blame her for not keeping track of all the creatures on Terra. He'd only been here for a few days and he'd already counted at least a dozen different species he was not familiar with from his previous existence.
"Dog is fine," he chuckled. "Most people call me Perro," he added as he sniffed at her again to double-check his assessment. Yep. Human enough for him. He glanced at her game again before asking the simplest, dumbest question. "I'm going to sound naive but- what exactly IS that thing you're carrying?"
