The day was wet, damp, and miserable; not exactly your typical summer weather for the area. It had been raining on and off all day, and the entire city was soaked through, with storm drains overflowing into large puddles in the street. Soon a young girl, in her mid teens came by and sat next to Parson. Dressed in polkadot rainboots and a clear slicker over her clothes, she peered over at him for a second. "Hmm.." She started to say thoughtfully. "I know him, why are you looking for Mr. Hammerstein?" She asked politely.

The boy was certainly not dressed for the rain. He looked to the girl and frowned. "You do?" That was lucky. Maybe he was famous or something. "Um...Catherine..Dumitrescu..." He though that was how it was pronounced. "told me I might be able to figure out what happened, if I learned more about him." And he would like that. "I lost a lot of memory. I saw her in Gambit's, and she said it might help."

"Mhm. He's Ms. Catherine's nephew, or at least she was introduced as his aunt..." Laura said trying to figure out where she had seen this boy before. "Oh did you? That mean's she's finally back!" She was referring to Catherine's sudden absence, and lack of contact with anyone, with the exception of a few letters or the occasional gift on a birthday. Laura had really taken a liking to both of them, feeling somehow with all of this strange stuff that had happened, they were both on her side in the end. "So what'dya want to know? Oh I'm Laura by the way." She said sticking out her hand.

The boy shook her hand. "I'm Parson. And...I guess who he is?" He shrugged. "Where to find him, maybe. I'm not sure. I can't remember anything, even what year it is. She seemed...surprised by how old I said I was." And his size, though only just. It was weird.

"Mm.. it's hard to say exactly who Mr. Hammerstein is. I mean he ran this really awesome art store until he disappeared." She answered. "Huh. It's hard to get the jump on Ms. Catherine, she's pretty low key." Laura continued. "Come to think of it you look an awful lot like pictures I saw once of Mr. Hammerstein as a kid." She was pretty sure there was something weird going on here, but what she didn't know. She didn't have the experience to tell her. "I mean I think there's something weird going on here with you..."

Laura tilted her head back and forth for a moment thinking. "I still think there's something weird here, but I'd have to ask Ms. Catherine..." She said frowning. "Call me strange, but it sounds like someone stuck a curse or something on you." Laura muttered trying to think of how best to address the situation. Her knowledge of what could happen in the unseen world was very limited, but she could only imagine what could truly exist. "I know this probably sounds like more of a quest.. but go talk to Ms. Catherine, she probably has your answer. You know she's actually pretty adept at that sort of thing, she just avoids doing much more than her job."

She was quiet for a moment before replying. "Well.. I might get in trouble for saying this... but he's some sort of wizard, I mean I can't think of the right term. But he's very good with magic.. the worst kind too. He even contracts out for things occasionally." Laura answered. "I mean you really remind me of him, you talk just like him." Maybe that was stretching it a bit, because normally all she heard out of Brandon was to stop playing with something or pay attention to the front of the store whenever she was helping out. "Looks like you have Ms. Catherine's card, if you pester enough she'll help." The rain was picking up again, and the bus had just arrived. "Time for me to go, I'll talk to you again sometime Parson, okay?"

"No one ever wants to go my way." Rahal grumbled, rather good naturedly. "It's like no one trusts me to keep them safe in my parents own realm. Kurt, there's just too many people that don't trust a mage's magic." He grinned to the other and finished his drink. "Might as well get going. Brandon's little art shop is off Main Street." He said calmly. "Laura, this itty bitty teen whose ass he saved, normally hangs out. Supposedly, she even works the cash register. Given I almost never see customers there, mostly she moons wistfully over her big strong protector."

"I won't say uncolored." He snickered. "But all right." Rahal led the way to the shop and pushed in. A teenager sat behind the counter, worry on her face. The shop itself was stocked very well with art supplies, primarily painting, but with smaller sections for the other supplies as well. The mage made his way to the counter. "Hey Laura. this is Kurt. He's going to help me figure out what happened to Brandon."

"Hi Mr. Rahal." She said and sat up a bit straighter on the stool behind the counter. "Hello Mr. Kurt. Do you think you can help Mr. Hammerstein for real? I mean, his Aunt said he's out of commission for a bit, but she didn't say what happened at all." Laura had no clue her boss had been turned into a kid. She just knew that something had happened, something magical and it was bad, whatever it was.

Kurt accepted the greeting. "The pleasure is all mine. As for if I can help, well, currently I'm on a mission to gather information about the nature of his problem. The more I know, the more I can do to assist him. Let's start with what you've seen and heard, and don't leave out a single detail. Even the tiniest bit could be important." He got out his pen and notebook and got ready to transcribe.

Laura thought over what he needed a minute, and began at the beginning. "I first knew something was wrong when I got in after school like two weeks ago. The shop was open, but lights were off and no one was here. Mr. Hammerstine's apartment door was wide open too, and he never does that, but when I looked, nobody was there. Ms. Dumitrescu, that's his Aunt, told me there was some kind of an accident." The teen thought it over. "I saw a kid who looks a lot like Mr. Hammerstine with her from a distance the other day, but that's about it. Until then, we got special hours, cause I'm the only one who can come in." Ms. Dumitrescu watched sometimes, but not often, and so Laura was working long hours, longer than she should, to keep the shop going.

Rahal nodded. "His apartment still unlocked?" He never knew.

"No, but I have the key under the register." The teen gave Rahal the key, and bit her bottom lip. "Mr. Hammerstine's gonna be alright, isn't he?"

"Depends on if I can match what you've told me to anything I find in the historical record. Leave it that he's a few cards short of a full deck and messed with something better left untouched, and now we have to clean up his mess." Kurt was never much for holding back what he thought. Perhaps his ivory tower seclusion was the best for all involved, even if it was good to get out and practice the Art now and then.

"You've been very helpful, Laura. Rahal, I believe you sent the boy away somewhere? I'd like to talk to him next. Or would you rather poke around the apartment, see if the box is still there? I just hope the local police didn't fuck up and take it as evidence."

Laura looked incredibly worried, and Rahal hurried to speak up. "Laura, it will be okay. We're going to do our best to fix him up, and if not, well, he'll be different, but it'll be a few years until he's back to being himself." Quite a few. The mage took Kurt by the elbow. "We're going to go check out his apartment."

"Alright. No police ever came by though." She told Kurt, biting her bottom lip. "Should they have?" Brandon was not, per se, an official missing person. He was just out of contact, for now.

Rahal smiled. "Not for this, no. There's special people who work these cases. Brandon and I have both done some contract work with them, remember? For now, I'm handling it." The mage would frog march Kurt if he had to to the stair case in the back. "Kurt, as much as I respect you, she's a kid, and her only involvement with magic is tending an art store owned by a mage. Be gentle with her." He glanced up the stairs and sighed. "Might as well start checking for residue down here. His workshop is in the back, but the accident occurred in the apartment up top." And no one went in the workshop unless they wanted a fight with Brandon's formidable defenses or were invited.

Kurt bit his lip and looked around. "Well, I guess if she's offering for us to take a look around, we should do so. Are you sure everything is as it was when he left? If anything is out of place, it could ruin the investigation."

Typical Kurt. As much as he was trying, his mind was just full of too many things to fit in the process of how to be nice to people. "Let's stay away from the workshop, there's no telling what he has to defend it. Apartment it is. And let's use the key. Even my teleporting in could ruin something physical or magical at the scene."

Listening to the voicemail message again, Catherine looked at her phone in confusion; it wasn't normal for Laura to call, especially after what should have been close of business. "Well there goes my evening." She said to herself as she grabbed her keys and headed out the door to meet the young girl at the shop. In the mean time, Catherine found herself wondering what could have caused the girl to call in such a panic.

"Could be anything." Catherine muttered under her breath as she drove down the street, thinking that something hadn't been put back up securely and fallen from the shelf once a large truck drove by.

Laura had been waiting outside, and the moment Catherine arrived she nearly leaped forward to the other. "Miss Dumitrescu! There was an explosion, above the shop, where Mr. Hammerstein usually lives." She said quickly, eyes wide. "I got kicked out by the protections, and can't...I don't know how to get in again." She said, eyes wide. Her key wasn't working, but Laura wasn't exactly keyed into any wards, like Catherine had been. There was little she could do but wait. "Those two men, they went up. They said that they were there to check out what had happened. I let them, cause they seemed legit, but then this happened, and and and..." She was one step from hyperventilating.

All Laura wanted was a relatively normal life. That, it was clear, wasn't about to happen. She understood staying near by, after the attack, but things like explosions? That was too much. The worst part was no one else seemed to even notice.

Inside the shop, Ty was still recovering. Kurt had left, to get some medical aid, the teen supposed. For now, he wanted to relax, and maybe examine the curse in its crystalline form once more. It was much easily to study like this after all.

Catherine sighed putting up her hands to ward the girl off. "Calm down, you just aren't keyed into the security system for whatever reason. I'm going to assume one of the men was Rahal, and the other that bloody man with the notebook." Pulling her key out of jeans pocket, Catherine approached the door slowly, and waited for a moment for the wards to recognize and allow her through.

Grumbling something about overly paranoid and stupid nephews, she slid her key in and turned. The lock gave a gentle, audible click, and allowed the door to open. Catherine considered asking the girl to go home, but then realized how strange it would be if something else happened and she was the only one there. "I'll go take a look, but it could have just been a box falling off a shelf onto the floor."

Laura nodded and followed behind Catherine. She still needed to clean up from the end of the shift anyway, even if something terrifying occurred. That, of course, was assuming they'd open at all tomorrow, under the circumstances.

Upstairs, Ty grumbled and pulled out both the actual crystal, and the gem shaped made in his own hand, and began to analyze them. The curse itself was...simple? Geez. Or at least, the curse in the original crystal looked ridiculously simple and easy to fix. Surely, there hadn't been all this fuss over something like this? Old Him was an idiot.

The one that had been in the chaos realm however, seemed to have mutated somehow. Great. And that was the one he had mostly been hit with. There was no simple solution there. Ty considered things carefully. "Right. My options are this sucks, this sucks, and father is going to kill me. Somehow, those are my least favorite options ever."

"Everything down here looks normal enough." She muttered looking around the darkened shop. "Okay Laura, just finish up for the evening while I go check upstairs, alright?" Catherine really suspected that it was nothing as she climbed the stairs up towards the small apartment above the stairs.

Finding the door unlocked and open, she placed a hand on her gun in it's holster. Who knew what sort of trouble Rahal and the other mage, Kurt, had gotten into. Brandon's living quarters almost always set her on edge, simply because she never knew what might or might not be magically booby trapped. 'At least Laura didn't come up here, looks like she's gotten smart finally.' Catherine thought to herself as she pushed the door open further carefully. "Hello?" She called out.

Laura nodded and remained downstairs to finish up.

Ty looked up to the widening door and frowned, having taken a seat at the dining table to try and figure out how the heck the curse that had mutated worked. "You...must be Catherine." She looked old. And felt old too. Not as old as Father of course, but old. Whatever, old people were annoying. "I'm Ty Rahal. Kurt left already, but I got hit by the curse, so I've been hanging tight here." He still wore the oversized clothes, and so likely looked all too ridiculous.

"Hey, why were we examining a curse anyway? Did someone get hit? I mean, it was pretty d- blasted obvious how to fix it." Some people were idiots though. Ty was well aware of it. Like Old-Him who was stupid enough to get cursed. Seriously, Father was going to kick his ass for a mistake he hadn't yet made. Or had he? The teen leaned back in his chair and contemplated the metaphysical nature of time travel and time based curses.

"Yes..." Catherine said cautiously closing the door slowly behind her. "Well, that's pretty obvious given your current choice in clothing." She pointed out as she approached the table. 'Figures that bloody mage would split soon as something strange happened.' She thought with exasperation. It wasn't like she had the skill to even despell the curse, and at least she wasn't leaving Brandon like he was as punishment for playing with cursed objects.

"Because anything to do with creating or despelling curses is above my pay grade, and yes someone got hit, Brandon." Catherine stated matter of factly as she took a seat across from him at the table.

"Yeah, well, you're in luck." The boy said. "It's a super easy fix." He shrugged and placed the cursed crystal in the box that had been cursed. "Also, the box it curse free now." That was important information to impart. "Brandon, whoever he is, seriously just has to open the box and touch the crystal. The curse will be sucked into the crystal, and viola, he's back to his proper age."

He smiled wryly. "I got hit by mutated curse backlash when Kurt disrupted my concentration while I was confining the curse to its new home." He made a face at this. "Which is why I don't like working with other mages, cause they're all stupid. It means I'm going to have to unravel the curse the much harder way." It would take him a few weeks, but that was it. "I'm just avoiding going home just yet to tell Father, because I like all my body parts where they are supposed to be." Father would be furious and stick him through obstacle courses again and again, and may even make him live through the curse, depending on how much the older man blamed him for the incident.

Probably entirely.

Catherine looked at the crystal as it was placed in the box. "Well for everyone's sake lets hope it works, because I'm not terribly fond of having to deal with the curse running it's course." She said after a moment. If this didn't work, she'd find a way to personally hang the two of them for botching the job.

"Sometimes you have to work with someone, as horrible as it is. Some people are more tolerable than others though." Catherine added. She'd been lucky enough to end up having been assigned Alexander as a partner through her career, but there were days when she seriously contemplated killing him; even though that wasn't possible. "It sounds like your father is a bit of a...hm.. hard ass?"

A hard ass. That was one way of putting it. "Kind of. But he loves me. Him and Mother both do, and it's not like I don't get healed after I get punished. It's not a big deal." Usual punishments included what Ty not so fondly called 'walking the dogs.' This usually meant being dumped into a pit of hell hounds in a kill or be killed situation, with his magic bound. Others included running laps while being chased by creatures of chaos that would all too happily feast on his bones. Almost the worst was when his father decided to very firmly put the boy back in his place by 'sparring' with him. It was more an excuse to beat the crap of Ty than anything else.

"Anyway, apparently I go by my last name when I'm older, which is stupid as all get out. So just call me Ty, okay? Rahal is, well, my last name, but just sounds weird." Seriously who went around demanding everyone call them 'Son of Ra.' Old Him was weird.

Sitting in the car, Catherine flipped through various notes she'd taken over the course of the past week. "The paper work alone is going to kill me." She muttered before picking up her coffee and taking a sip, leaving a lipstick print on the white plastic lid. One would almost swear that the woman ran on coffee and coffee alone, because rare was it that one actually saw her with anything other than a mug of tea or cup of coffee. Setting the coffee down and turning off the ignition, Catherine got out into the still, hot, and entirely too humid day. They had been forecasting rain all week, but so far all it had done was get stickier and sticker by the day. By the time she reached the door of the art shop from where she had parked, her blouse clung limply to her back, what little starch it had had defeated by the hot and steamy air.

Pushing open the door to the shop, a bell somewhere inside announcing her presence; Catherine spotted Laura, but no Brandon, yet. "Hello Laura, is Brandon around today?" She asked as she looked around the shop, waiting for the girl to finish with a customer.

"Miss Catherine!" The girl crowed with delight upon seeing the other woman. "How are you, did you enjoy your trip?" The girl was young, eager, and almost childlike in her ways.

Catherine offered the girl a slight smile, allowing herself to indulge in the girl's joy at seeing a familiar face. "I'm fine, thank you Laura, I did enjoy my trip. But, have you seen my nephew?" She asked again as she approached the counter. Laura thought for a moment before answering the woman. "I did earlier today, but it's been pretty slow, so he could be doing inventory in the back. Want me to go get him for you?" She asked sweetly. Catherine just shook her head, "No, I think I'll go check on him myself."
