a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Gasmask

Description

Image
Leonardus Cabello
7'5. Well defined and muscled. Male

Leo is a traveling paladin, he has taken vows to hunt anything evil he meets and help any churches, even those unrelated to his own personal religion. He has a long black ponytail that is hidden by his cloak, a scar on his lower lip and distant looking blue eyes.

"Give me a sword and I'll kill a few men. But give me a hammer and I'll win you your wars." The hammer he carries is the personal work of Leonardus' childhood friend who happens to be a master smith( A woman too, as Leo enjoys telling people with inferior weapons.) It's head is enormous with the marking of Leo's order and made out of the toughest obsidian it's maker could find. The haft is wood reinforced by steel bindings. On one side of the head is a small hole, upon a certain amount weight applied to the underside of the hammer a spike will protrude from the hole, allowing it to become a more versatile weapon.

He also carries a spiked chain that usually remains wrapped around his left gauntlet, used for dragging flying enemies down to meet his hammer or trap fleeing enemies. A paladin's work is almost seldom fought in the air.

The book upon his belt is a journal which is used both to keep maps, write information about enemies and remember spells. Currently it only holds one spell, Dawnlight.

  • Dawnlight: This spell is very much like a will'o'wisp. Nothing more, nothing less.

So begins...

Leo pulled open the door with his hands, trying two times to enter the doorway without lowering his back before sighing and sliding though the doorway. Leo's hammer rattled on his back as he saddled a stool and ordered a mug of prime ale. He took a vow, but it didn't stop him from drinking.

The 'large man with the hammer' turned around and looked right back at Ellais, flashing her his version of a friendly smile that ended up looking a bit like a grimace. Leo then looked at Kaliska and raised an eyebrow that was above his placidly distant blue eyes. "Better sword. Where'd you get that forged?" The paladin readjusted the loop wrapped around his hammer to keep it on his back.

His drink arrived and he took a deep swallow. "What's the whip for?"

"I'll be sure, don't want to... break anything do I?" Leo said to Ellais, giving her a thumbs up. One of the universal greetings he gave to people who weren't trying to throttle him with his own insides. He then turned to Kaliska and smiled, stretching the scar on his bottom lip. "We take vows yes, but I'm not the kind of paladin serving whichever god they found hiding under the rocks. I serve the one who brings the dawn, yes I know how that sounds. Simply put, I drink because my vows don't stretch that far, same with killing, I woudn't have to clean blood off my hammer if I was stuck fighting the sack of bones the other paladins fight." Leo joked.

"Who wounded you? Mind if I take a look?"

"Lovely sounding thing, by rat thing I assume it was upright? Heard of them before, back home we call them Craven. Except they usually coat their blades in nightshade, so you'd be dead otherwise. Sounds different from what I know." Leo shrugged. Then he took a look at the boxes flying towards her from the woman with the red hair and talking into some kind of radio.

"You know, back home, the military's highest level of medication is amputation. You want a blessing for that wound..." He paused for her name.

"Sounds like I need to do some hunting. Crack some skulls for the sun." It seems that this Paladin liked the premise of wrecking things. The Paladin looked at Kaliska and slammed a fist turned to the side of his chest with a resounding thump in some sort of greeting ritual. "Leonardus." He gave her a warriors greeting, because he assumed she was a fighter due to the sword and gun.

"I asked if you wanted me to bless your wound, could help you out if you meet Ratface again."

"Shithole? Seems no bigger of a hole than any other places I've visited, wasn't even planning on coming here if it wasn't for that drunk ass of a priest here." Leo shrugged and smiled rather painfully. "Blessings don't work that way, it's not meant to heal you, it's meant to protect you, it's a custom among my kind to bless people with a boost to strength, sounds bullshit I know but it works, seems like not all the gods hate giving us messages that they're there."

Leonardus Cabello looked at Emma. "Yeah. Drunk. All the time, can't handle his own flock so they wander off into the woods at night and he tells me that I have to find them because he's an old bastard who can't hold our own signature weapon, let alone a short-sword. Sure could just be kidnapped, but what if they just wanted to get out of there?" The paladin shrugged and nodded. "Right, well it's only good for one mortal blow, which is what it sounds like, something stabs you hard in the chest where otherwise your guts come pouring out? The blade hits steel and then the blessing calls it quits." Leo then turned to Lt. Emma.

"You come back? Sounds like you have an advantage over all the other men on the battlefield with one life, sure you only command, but you're playing with lives. I wish I could come back after someone strangles me with my own liver."

Leo shrugged and admired Kaliska's rather ballsy joke. "Haha, yes and guess whose tail I'd be pulling right off?" Leo joked back and looked to Emma. "Back home, our camouflage consists of whatever we can stick to our armor that isn't pigshit, but that's admirable to fight your enemies wearing your colors. I do not know what DNA means, but I've been here long enough to know that some of cultures here are years ahead of my own, I can only assume that Kaliska shares the same level of tec-tech-technoobly' by our similar armor."

Leonardus Cabello rolled his eyes. "No honor with guns, but they're easily breakable too." The Paladin patted his weapon and spun a little hand gesture, his pointing finger drew a small symbol on the counter and then he tapped Kaliska on the shoulder. She woudn't feel anything, but the blessing was done. "I don't see much point in blessing you, redhead. You can't die anyway." The paladin shrugged. "Seems like flirting with death."

"You expect something more? Like golden temporary tattoos or glowing eyes? Don't happen like that, you'll certainly feel lighter when it saves your life though. Remember, this just gives you ten lives, rather than your standard nine." He winked at her. If they were going to show off weapons, he better join in. "Well if we're going to share." A hand slipped behind his back and loosened the hammer, slipping into his hand and was dragged across the floor to the front of Leonardus. The head was heavy looking, with religious grooves and one side had a hole in it. "Luckily for me, when your kinds were making gears for your guns, mine were making ours for up close."

Leo gave the head a heavy stomp with his boot, there was a click and a jagged spike shot out of one end.

"Woof." Leo snapped back. "I was just tellin' you how it works." The paladin scratched his face with the palm of his hand and took another swig of his drink which was now dry, he sighed and slid it back to the other side of the counter. He gave the hammer a loud crack with his boot and the spike reversed itself back into the hammer. "I'll throw this at it then. Don't think I'll miss too much, eh?" Leo seemed very proud of his abilities.

"Or I can throttle it with chains. You're not the only one with a whip."

The paladin gave the bridge between his nose and mouth a good wipe, gods above that smell was far too fresh of a forest smell for the city dweller to handle. This surprised Cabello who was used to the smell of blood, smoke and incense candles. His huge battle hammer rested upon his shoulders, as no strap could handle the pure weight of such an object, but a wanderer couldn't be picky in these times.

Leo continued down the twisted trail, whacking a prickly bush away with a mighty blow from his gauntlet, and occasionally looking around for the animals he heard all around him, he was pretty hungry. He stopped for a second to glance upon the sign, bearing a language he didn't understand and no scholar had taught him. What could the damn sign mean? He didn't know, but he elected to continue on the ever foreboding forest.

Leonardus came to view a stranger on the road, he raised a heavy hand into the air. "Hello!" He shouted, echoing in the forest for miles. He still had to comprehend the size of the forest around him. The stranger seemed to be a hunter, or a woodsman, maybe both. The paladin swung the hammer off his shoulders and let it thump against the trail, causing a light splatter of dirt against his clothing.

"Do you know where this path end-" He started to say, stopping as he heard a quiet click in the air. What the hell was that? Some kind of animal?

"Yes, I was given a mission by the church to find something here, a monster, but there doesn't seem to be anything but a forest, hunters and grass and the trail has er... messed with my inner compass." Leo shrugged, and extended a hand to Yandrew and then to Jo. "Nice to meet you both, I assume you're both hunters of this forest?" The paladin said, giving her weapon a raised eyebrow, what an odd looking staff.

"I don't bite, stranger, much." The paladin said to the woman, grinning.

"I am Leo, paladin of er... everyone."

"That's for sure. I don't think I know either of your accents or faces, if you don't mind me saying." The paladin said, scratching his chin and pondering what kind of idiot in the church would send him on a turkey chase, he wasn't a paranoid man, but if the hunter woman hadn't seen or heard of a monster, maybe there wasn't one and something was going down at the church without him, it woudn't surprise him.

"Are you sure you haven't heard or seen anything abnormal?" He asked the both of them.

The paladin nodded at Yandrew. "Thanks, that will really help me out." Then he turned to the rustling noise and grabbed his hammer, making sure to heave it with a loud grunt up onto his shoulder. "What'dyou see?" He asked, shoving the conversation to the back of his head, maybe this is what he was hunting, maybe it was just another wanderer. It would be pretty likely, considering everything.

"What do you mean monsters? They're just lost children." the paladin said numbly, looking at Jo and then the changelings. Then he gave her a confused look and stepped forward, his mind easily entrapped in their illusion. He put down his hammer and leaned it against the tree. "What are you lot doing out here, where are your parents?" The paladin shouted, moving forward in long powerful strides, muscles bristling in the cool air, he continued walking well into striking distance.

Then he realized his mistake.

Leo roared in fury, he felt the razor teeth sink into his neck, he was hardy, but not that hardy. The paladin screamed in pain, flailing in pain and fury as he grabbed the little one off his shoulder and fell backwards, the sudden loud cracks of noise bringing his attention to Jo's gun. That was no staff, and it certainly wasn't just a walking stick, but he wasn't stupid enough to figure out that it was some kind of ranged weapon, but right now, he had his hands full.

He glimpsed Yandrew backing up, he shouted towards him. "Help me!" he half gurgled, half yelled. His arms desperately trying to pull the changeling off his back. Leo had signed up for fighting larger monsters and frightful beings, not pseudo-children who could use his own strengths as weaknesses.

The paladin pulled the chain from his right gauntlet, bringing it to bear against the closest changeling that was too his left. The chain glowed a bright gold, but surprisingly, it didn't have any element to it, it was just hardier than a regular piece of chain. Leo grabbed the flare gun, giving it a split second look and thanking her with a nod. Then Leo grappled the child to his left, wrapping the chain around it's neck with a grunt and slamming a boot to it's chest and pulled upwards, then putting the flare gun to the side of it's head and pulling the trigger.

A part of him didn't believe anything would happen, another hoped to the gods above that it shot fire, like she implied to him. If it worked, he'd throw the flare gun back over to her, and resume a fighting stance.

Leonardus flinched, it was going to take awhile for him to become used to the sounds of modern day technology, and these sounds were the worst. He held a hand to his neck, making sure to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. He begun to wrap the chain around his gauntlet and stared at the creatures. What kind of evil used children as a tool to commit murder? All kinds apparently.

It made a person think.

"Have they got friends? Nice fighting by the way, but I think it's time we left. That native had a point, this is their forest, and I'm damn sure they know it better than I do." The paladin said quietly to Jo, making sure to keep a hand on his side. He'd have to get his hammer too, if that was possible since it was a couple of meters behind them resting against a tree.
