Description

Image

Alias: Lep.
Full Name: Incredibly long.
Gender: Male.
Age: 23.
Species: Asteri Gennietai (Star Born; not literally).
Race: Talou Asteri Gennietai | Talou.

Appearance: As a Talou, Lep's natural skin tone has a very noticeable blue tint to it. Most Talou scientists speculate that this blue skin-colour is derived from the alignment of the stars around their home planet, though there is a certain degree of inconsistency between theories to the point where most generally consider it nonsense. It can only be to do with pigmentation, after all. Aside from this, the Talou (and Lep) are extremely similar to Humans, if not a little bit taller and well defined. Their eyes also tend to be very dim, no matter the eye colour, with "bright" eyes holding a significant place in their ancient culture for being a sign of inhuman wisdom; people with bright, "glowing" eyes were generally seen as soothsayers, shamans and oracles. Lep's own eyes aren't particularly bright, but they're certainly not as dim as the rest of his kin.

Occupation: Freelancer. At least, that is what people like him call themselves. The Talou as a whole are a close-knit community, with large, tightly bonded family groups joining together to form alliances and kingdoms. Freelancers are exiled Talou, who have no choice but to roam space alone. Most become criminals; smugglers, hackers and assassins. Lep can't honestly say he is an exemption to this without being a liar, but he at least tries to avoid some of the messier work.

Skills and Abilities: Knowledgeable in programming, adept at flying ships, can aim a gun well enough to hit something, packs a mean punch, generally intelligent with an above average IQ, relatively charismatic.

Transport: Curse

Curse is a small, shuttle class transport around 64 metres long. It contains a cockpit for three, a small cargo hold with a munitions storage, and comfortable a living quarters decked with a bedroom, a sitting room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The ship also has two, small, fast-firing railguns capable of tearing up most similar sized vessels at close range.

So begins...

She had heard the news through the grapevine, but still didn't want to believe it. She had left Wing City on a modeling gig when she was ten and hadn't been back in five years thanks to being busy with modeling and movie deals. Sure, she spoke with her parents and older sister all the time on the phone, but it just wasn't the same. She had planned on coming home around this time, but never expected to be coming home to deal with her mother's death. They still hadn't located her older sister, but that wasn't all the surprising. When NeNe wanted to hide, she was very good at it. She decided not to mourn her mother while in Wing City, mostly because she had been crying since the moment she received the call, but to celebrate the life Tayrn lead. Or at least attempt to do that very thing. It seemed strange being back in Wing City, but at least the memories she had were fairly pleasant.

"Hope people still don't card in Gambit's."

Striding through the door, she closed it behind her and took in a deep breath. Of course things weren't the same as when she was a kid, but it was pretty close. The sight, smell, and ambiance brought forth a ton of memories and she couldn't help but smile a little. Walking over to a booth, she slid inside of it and waved down a waitress. Ordering a cherry mountain dew, she crossed one long leg over the other and relaxed against the back of the cushion. Her brunette hair swept across the shoulders of her black and red t-shirt and her hands rested in her lap after smoothing out her black pants. Sometimes being a model was a perk as the clothing she happened to be wearing was all designer made and quite nice looking.

"Do you drink?"
"No, why would I drink?"
"Why wouldn't you drink?"
"Well actually I do drink. I drink water, juice, and diet coke. Because I like the taste of diet coke better than normal coke."

"Are you seriously going to try and hit on me and come across all cool when the strongest drink you'll order is a diet pepsi? Why do you even get diet? Are you trying to lose weight? Are you afraid of calories?"

"Coke. Not Pepsi. Coke. There's a difference. That's like - it's like thinking Star Trek is the one with the Jedi in it when, in actual fact, it's Star Wars."

"Stop being such a nerd about it! They're the same thing!"

"Okay. Okay. I'll stop being such a 'nerd' about it. And while I'm at it, I'll put diesel in my petrol car instead because, hey, they're the same thing. And maybe I'll put liquid nitrogen in that glass instead of fresh lemonade. Oh, and maybe I'll go ahead swap the blood transfusion bag with some Ribena because, y'know, they're the same thing."

"You're a dick!" Said the blonde girl, standing up from the bar and moving away from the man she had been sitting with.

"You just said Star Wars and Star Trek are the same thing," quipped Lep, an alien-humanoid with blue-tinted skin who wore a grey hood over his messy, dark hair.

It wasn't like his response did anything but cause a raging human female to charge out of the door and out into the street, leaving Lep remaining there alone and sighing in relief. He didn't like drinking and she should have just left it at that, but nope, she decided to deploy peer pressure against him. Hah. As if that had ever worked.

As he pulled out a computer pad as slim as a pane of glass, he couldn't help but notice the teenager not far away from him. And she WASN'T drinking alcohol! He liked her already. At least, he assumed what she was drinking wasn't alcohol.

"Hello," he greeted as he moved a table closer.

As she sat and sipped on her very delicious and refreshing Cherry Mountain Dew, Gabrielle couldn't help but people watch. It was something she did all the time, even when she wasn't meaning to, but it happened regardless. What she saw was two individuals having a very odd conversation. Were they dating? She wasn't sure, but apparently the girl didn't know that Star Trek and Star Wars were completely different things. Well, in her defense they both have ships and people on ships, but still. Rolling her eyes as the girl became defensive, LeBeau returned to watching other people and didn't return her gaze until the female had stomped out of the bar.

"Win some, lose some."

Completely aware that the male had moved closer to her, Gabrielle glanced over towards him and wondered if he was a threat. She learned long ago how to take care of herself, but she really didn't feel like having a scuffle in her dad's bar. Especially not since this was her first day back. Causally sipping her beverage, she tilted her head towards him in a nod.

"Why, hello there. Looks like you were abandoned."

"Not abandoned, more like forceful eviction." He rubbed his brow a little as the index finger on his left hand began to tap icons on his screen. "Which.. Sounds like something she could have said."

"... Not that I rape people. Or... Iii'm going to stop talking now."

He brought the pad up to his face and peered into it. From one side, the side Gabrielle was on, it was completely transparent and allowed her to look at him. On his side, on the other hand, all he could see was the interface of a piece of software.. Which would soon tell him if he could find a way to get out of paying for the pizza he just ordered.

As the proud owner of a Gallente shuttle, money was tight considering all the insurance he had to pay.

Arching her brow as he mentioned that he didn't rape people, she wondered if he was a little off in the head. Shifting a little, she watched him silently for a few minutes. It was the first time in a while that she had dealt with people not in the industry and the fifteen-year-old had forgotten how to have normal conversations. Curious as to what was on the pad, Gabrielle waved to the waitress for another cherry mountain dew and slid out of the booth to move closer towards him.

"What's that? Also, it's good that you don't rape people... since ya' know, dat's a crime." There was that accent again. Years of practice nearly kept it at bay, but sometimes it slipped back without warning.

"You humans speak strangely," he noticed as he placed the pad down. Most of what was on there was indistinguishable - strange symbols in an alien tongue mixed with the occasional English word. It almost seemed like some form of word document, but considering the way he typed into what vaguely resembled a 3D molecule structure, it was probably something more.

"I'm Lep," he eventually said. "You can call me... Lep. Or anything you want, really. You can call me Susan if it makes you happy."

He frowned, pulling his wallet from his coat pocket and taking out his credit chit.

"Damnit... Only a hundred credits left."

"How am I talking strangely? I thought I was talking quite properly 'n junk. Well, mostly, I guess."

Shrugging, she peered at the strange pad, resisting the urge to poke at it. Being a teen, especially a young teen meant sometimes she lacked the finesse to do things appropriately. Sometimes she just wanted to poke things and make them make weird sounds. This was one of the times, but she managed to keep from doing anything mainly because he wasn't human and she didn't want to be probed. He seemed a bit down on his luck and sad that he didn't have a lot of err... credits left, whatever those were. Figuring it meant money, she perked up and flashed him a smile.

"Order anything you like here and it'll be on my. My father owns the bar after all, so I've got some perks I'm willing to share with you. It's nice to meet you, Lep. I'm Gabrielle LeBeau, but you can call me, Gabrielle."

"Really? Thanks! I owe you one, Ga-hhhh-Rielle. I don't like the Gab sounds like Scab, and so I will call you Rielle, because Rielle is a nice, feminine name. Or perhaps I will call you Ri, that uses less syllables and is therefore less taxing on my mouth..scular muscles? I would call you Elle, but I don't like that name either."

Taking a breath, he reached into his his shirt and pulled out a small chain that was around his neck. More specifically, he was interested in the Christian-styled cross that was the main feature of the piece. He aimed it at her, then pressed into a button on the centre with a small click.

"That didn't do anything," he soon explained. "I just thought it would make me look mysterious."

Gabrielle blinked, her drink refreshed by the waitress without a word. The staff all knew who she and they knew that they needed to ensure that she was taken care of until her father returned for the funeral. It was actually refreshing to them to have a LeBeau that didn't drink alcohol, but of course they would never say anything like that out loud. Downing half of the glass, she tried to keep a straight face as he attempted to pronounce her name. Quite alright with the nickname, she just grinned and shrugged her shoulders. However, when he pulled out the cross on a necklace and pointed it at her, she felt her breath stopping. Her purply-tinted brown eyes widened and she dropped a hand down to her .50 desert eagle that was hitched to her right side. When he assured her that it didn't do anything, she moved her hand from the gun, but kept it close just in case.

"Den why'd y' do it? Yer de strange one, Leb, but dat's alright wit me." Oh lord, this place was a bad influence on her.

"How old are you?" He suddenly asked. "You look... I can't tell with you human girls. Young adultish? Definitely in the stage of puberty considering your chest isn't entirely flat and you have a little more maturity in your mannerism than a child."

He slowly shook his head. "I don't even know why I'm asking. Bored, I suppose. I've not been on the planet very long, not entirely sure how much longer I'll be here either. So I'm just trying to meet as many people as possible, you know? Learn things, make friends and maybe even some money."

Cryoface lumbered out from the back, seemingly shaken at something. He was tossing back glasses of a clear liquid from a cask, easily carrying it in one arm as he exited the bartender area. "Ladies, gentlemen, and whatever else is in here at the moment...I have a bit of bad news." His face lacked the features necessary to express sadness, as did his voice, but such enunciation from a construct was a feat in itself.

He gestured over at Gabrielle LeBeau, who shared no small amount of her mother's good looks. "If the lady wishes to be the one to lay it on?" He knocked back another shot of homemade vodka that he had made for the deceased Tayrn. "I mean, I can say it if you can't, but still."

"I'm a whopping fifteen years of age. I'm not sure if you should be looking at my chest though. Here on Earth, it's kind of pedophileish, but I'll let it slide this time."

She was about to say more, but was suddenly distracted by Frosty the Snowman. Wait, no, he wasn't wearing the black hat. Wracking her mind, she tried to remember his name as her parents talked quite animatedly about he bartender. Ah, right, Cryoface was his name. She wasn't used to others caring so much about her family, but the look on his face spoke measures of the appreciation he had for Tayrn and she knew her mother held the same for him. Frowning as he turned his attention towards her after beginning a speech of what Gabrielle assumed would lead to the announcement of her mother's passing, tears began to fill her eyes.

"...You please? I don't think I can get through it..." Just like that, her happiness was squashed out like a orange being shoved into a juicer.

Suddenly, he felt cold. Not because of Cryoface's presence, though that could have certainly been one of the reasons, but because the relatively light-hearted mood of the night changed with the fierce, speedy intensity of a snap of the fingers. He had no idea what had just happened to change it, or where it was going, but he felt as though he should probably hush up until it was over with.

He shook an awkwardness from his spine and leaned back in his seat, bringing his tablet up to his face as though trying to hide it. He could finish off that equation or something...

Leave it to a golem with no concept of or capacity for empathy to totally ruin the mood.

"Well then. I regret to inform you all that the heir apparent to this fine establishment, Tayrn LeBeau, has gone to be one with her Lord once again. She is survived by her husband Remy and her lovely daughters Renee and Gabrielle. I will file the necessary paperwork to make Renee the new deed holder immediately after this brief ceremony."

While Gambit's was in its own demiplane and thus not under the jurisdiction of the Terran National Government, or indeed any government save its own, the general feeling was that a sense of harmony with the outside worlds had to be maintained in order to get through this difficult time. "A toast to Tayrn LeBeau. May she find fulfillment in union with her Lord from whence she came."

Gabrielle shook her head, fighting back the tears. Augh, she had already cried so much since finding out about her sister. There was nothing worse than being on set for a television series and finding out the news. She was inconsolable for hours and was even driven to the airport by her body guard because he was afraid she wouldn't make it safely. He wanted to join her, but she firmly stated -- through tears of course -- that this was a family affair and she would be safe in Wing City with her father and older sister. Speaking of her older sister... she had better show up soon or else.

Ignoring the pity looks thrown towards her, she focused instead on her soda, sipping it silently. The tears streamed down her cheeks and she stubbornly wiped them away, refusing to let them taint her drink. Taking in a few deep breaths, she wondered if her sister would even want to be the heir to Gambit's. Well, technically their father was still owner, but who knew what he would do to avenge their mother's death.

"...Thanks, Cryoface..."

"I'm sorry," he said sincerely. "There are loads of things I could probably say right now but... You probably already know them. And you probably don't want to hear it form a stranger like me. Still, losing family is never nice and I think we can all agree on that."

He slowly stood up, taking the tablet with him by sliding it to the edge and then scooping it up under his arm. "I have to leave now, but I'll probably come around tomorrow to see if you're okay," he explained with a nod.

"I'm sure your friend here," he gestured to Cryoface, "will do a brilliant job of keeping you company, but I can't ignore the fact you were sat alone here. Isolation is one of the things I can truly understand, so I can at least help you deal with it if that's what you're going throug-"

The tablet began to beep. Not just visibly, with flashing lights of neon green, but audibly too. It almost sounded like an alarm of some sort.

"Sorry, I really have to go, I'm late for my medical."

Giving a departing bow to the both of them, he ran out through the door and off down the street.

Lep blinked at the man sitting across from him. "Where did you find this?" He asked, examining an object hidden from view by the back of the briefcase it was in.

"That would be a trade secret, my friend. Still, you recognize it, I presume?"

"Yes, this... This is from Talouna."

"Good, then you're the person who knows how much it's worth, right, Mr. Lep?"

"Uh... Yeah, yeah. I'd say... This is worth around 50,000,000C. Just.. Where did you get this?"

"As I said previously, the point of trade secrets is that they are secrets, and secrets cease to be secrets if they are told."

"Fine. Fine," he complied, closing the briefcase and pushing it back across the table - only for it to be stopped by the other man's hand.

"Oh no, Mr. Lep. I want you to keep it for a little whi-"

"Are you kidding?! If, no, when I get found with this, I'll be executed!"

The other man stood, his face hidden. He didn't simply wear a suit, but a full-body set of armour in black that covered every aspect of him. Even his voice was like metal, not organic like that of the blue man before him.

"That, Mr. Lep, is exactly why I want you to keep it. Try not to lose it, you understand, and thank you for your time."

"No way. I'm not keeping thi-" Lep was cut short when a pistol was aimed at his face.

"Yes, Mr. Lep, yes you are."

Too frozen to reply, Lep simply watched as the other man slowly backed out and left.

Lep flinched. Really? He had already been found? Less than thirty seconds?!

"Nothing!" He answered, leaning away from the voice of the woman and his entire body out over the table, hands first, to keep the briefcase out of her reach. "It is private!"

He scampered up, feet on the seat below him before he pushed himself outwards so his entire body slid to the other side of the table. When he reached the other side, he span so his feet lowered to the ground and quickly jumped up to a standing position, taking the case with him.

Lep let out a long sigh, out of relief and annoyance both. "Really? You didn't mean to scare me? I find that hard to believe, Miss, that what you did had no ulterior motive."

As he spoke, he casually, no - naturally, moved the arm holding the briefcase behind his back. He seemed protective of it, with good cause.

"Well, have a good day."

"Well, have a good day."

He simply stood there, as though waiting for her to move on.
