Name: Letch Gordon
Age: 26
Race: Human (Ayenee)
Significant Relations: None Currently.
Position/Occupation: Captain/Smuggler

Physical Description: Dark mid-length hair sits over dark brown eyes. He has a plethra of different clothing available to him and wears what he feels is most fitting in the location and event. Like most he prefers comfortable clothing. His boyish good looks have gotten him out of more than one scrape.

Personality: Letch thinks himself a lady's man. He is not often denied the company of the opposite sex so there is nothing to stand against this assessment. He is sly and quick witted despite his average intelligence. He tends to put more value on money and personal wealth than the lives of others.

Skills and Talents:

- Trained and practiced in the use of CONCORD, Human (Ayenee) firearms.
- Exceptionally skilled, trained, and practiced in the use of CONCORD, Human (Ayenee) equipment and most craft.
- Modified to jack into a ship or vehicle's systems to pilot the vessel via direct mental input.
- Experienced in hand-to-hand combat.
- Good reflexes.
- Exceptional computer systems infiltrator, hacker.
- Engineer, CONCORD/Empire Propulsion

Weapons & Equipment:

-- Lancer VP14: The lancer is a magazine-fed, short-to-mid range weapon offering semi-automatic, three charge burst, and fully automatic fire. Charged plasma munitions are pumped into a cyclotron that converts the plasma into a highly lethal bolt before it is expelled from the chamber. Upon impact with the target, the magnetic field surrounding the bolt collapses, venting superheated plasma onto the contact point. The Lancer can also be fitted with a number of different attachments to include a grenade launcher, different scopes, and other attachments. It can be fielded with a number of different hybrid munition types. Hybrid weapons are extremely effective against both shield and armor based defense systems because of the extreme heat and kinetic force issued with each impact. The VP14 uses both capacitor cells and hybrid ammunition magazines.
-- Nova VP8: Close range combat knife that uses hyper-vibrations and heat to easily cut through solid steel and many much harder substances. The VP8 uses capacitor cells loaded at the bottom of the grip but these seldom need to be changed out unless the knife is used excessively. The blade itself is constructed of an adamant core surrounded by vibranium, with a diamondine edge.
-- Arc VP12: A short-to-med ranged phaser pistol that easily bypasses most shield based defense systems and applies electromagnetic and thermal damage to armor based systems. It also has some weak atomic destabilization properties like disruptors. The beam fired by this pistol can easily cut through most conventional armor and cause massive heat damage to tougher stuff. The pistol has two settings that allow for continuous fire or pulse fire. The VP12 requires no ammo but does use up capacitor cells that are loaded at the top of the weapon above the grip. The continuous fire mode causes these capacitor cells to deplete much more swiftly and can potentially damage the weapon if done too frequently.
-- Myrkr VP101 (First shown - left to right): The Myrkr personal defense system is primarily used by snipers and reconnaissance soldiers. This armor uses primarily shield based defensive systems. It does enhance the wearer’s physical attributes as well as their reaction time but not as much as other armors. The user’s senses are enhanced to a staggering degree. Among the additions that are common to all CONCORD personal armors is an advanced cloaking device that renders the wearer all but undetectable. The short range teleportation system allows for near instantaneous transportation provided the wearer has line of sight with the desired destination and as long as a CONCORD capital ship is within a range of seven astronomical units. Advanced sensors allow the wearer to more easily detect other cloaked entities. The self-contained and adaptive filtration system of all CONCORD personal defense systems coupled with the drop system allows a wearer to enter an atmosphere or drop from high altitude and low orbit to arrive safely on the surface of a terrestrial planet. Most CONCORD personal defense systems are powered by a capacitor core that is recharged by the wearer's own bio-current. Some larger or more power hungry units come equipped with a micro cold fusion reactor.
-- EGO (Environmental Guardian Online): A symbiotic neuro-muscular bionetic implant, EGO alters its host at the genetic level, providing encyclopedic heads-up intelligence, while simultaneously unlocking and managing corporeal-maximization, or EGO Powers. Many CONCORD personnel utilize EGO which provides the user with four short timed psionic like abilities that can be used on the fly and with very little concentration. Those abilities are blur, cloak, decoy, and overcharge. EGO sharpens the senses, provides easy communication between members in the same solar system, provides access to a database of knowledge, a heads up display, and an assistant AI among other small perks.

Somewhere in the Pan'chek system.
The Espérance, Godr, Varden Fortress Class Capital Ship, FCV-001.

The ship ran silent, cloaked, and avoiding detection by advanced sensors and pitfalls both varied and numerous. Some were expected, some were not, but all were avoided or countered with varying degrees of difficulty. The only visible and exposed portion of the fourteen kilometer ship was a small portion of an antenna acting like the ship's para-scope. It was the pilot's, Fleet Admiral Haldis's only window to the outside. Many countermeasures were being implemented.

Probes or the use of the ship's sensors to actually scan the system in an attempt to find what they were looking for would result in the risk of being exposed. As such she was preparing the Espérance to make the jump out of Pan'chek and back to Sol. A corvette would remain in system and keep a watch out for the stolen frigate that they had traced to Langara. "Ship Board Broadcast: Prepare to jump. Action stations. Prepare to jump.", said Haldis's voice across the on board communication system. "Fleet link is engaged. Detecting covert cynosural field at coordinates...", EGO rambled off a long list of numbers that drummed on and on, eventually fading and being drowned out by other noises. Fleet Admiral Haldis issued the order. "Jump, jump."

Space itself bubbled causing gravitational lensing of the starlight behind the Espérance before the invisible ship actually was gone from Pan'chek. The observable effect was similar in nature to a collapsing wormhole.

A young man walked quickly by on his way in the direction that Madeline had just come from. Apparently in a big hurry. As he walked by Madeline may notice that she was no longer on the bench by herself. A man wreathed in shadow sat close to her left side though it was likely the young woman would have no recollection how or when the man had took a seat next to her. It had seemed that the man just appeared.

The lights flickered as if there was a short in the power or the light was being drained away to leave only shades of gray and black, fading to absolute pitch. The young man continued to walk on, aware of Madeline for he had glanced at her but completely unaware of the presence with her on the bench. Shadows crept forward as if to engulf the girl.

“SEC this is Varden...” The transmission was interrupted. “SEC this is Captain Gordon of the privateer...” The two garbled communications intermixed now across faster than light communication as a small ship pursued by two others, more than twice the smaller ships mass dropped from hyper-drive speeds and into much slower faster than light warp speeds. “... we are in pursuit of a...”, “..requesting assistance...”, “This is Captain Gardner of the ship...”, the communicators said.

The warp fields dropped away at the system's heart, the star as the frigate exited warp with the two larger corvettes exiting warp a second after. Nearly immediately all types of electromagnetic warfare started to sound off. Micro-energy streams wrapped around the frigate and one of the corvette’s in return as it burned away and turned hybrid turrets back at its pursuers. The ships ducked and dived between coronal loops of electromagnetic force dancing between empty space and the solar storm.

Soundless shots of hybrid antimatter munitions detonated against the lead corvette’s shields as it launched a warp field disruption probe into the path of the frigate as it tried to burn away. The smaller ship's discharge jets ballooned as it activated a micro-warp drive and burned away only to slingshot in reverse to use the larger ships' mass and inertia to its advantage. The larger ships overshot as the smaller frigate buzzed them to start aligning out.

Communications continued to overlap and remained garbled. “... requesting assistance...”, “... wanted criminal and fugitive.”, the communicators continued on as the larger vessels turned and attempted to catch the smaller ship once more before it burned out of the warp disruption field that ballooned out and which now encompassed all three ships.

Normally this far out in SEC space a small patrol force would be expected to respond to any signals about a criminal force but at this time the boarders of the SEC were being heavily patroled due to the state of war with the Cybrans. In a matter of moments A sizable taskforce of a carrier and a squadron of fast attack ships transited to the location they had only recieved a partial message but it was enough and the Varden Call signs were recognized.

"Attention Captain Gordon this is Grand-Moff Tarin responding to your distress call. "Under normal circumstances I would offer to attempt to capture the criminal but I cannot risk the loss of a ship and there for I am authorizing the use of deadly force." As this transmission was sent hanger bay doors were open and a squadron of fighter bombers took off.

They circled the warp disruption field as if pondering weather they could successfully pass.

"SEC. The frigate...", "Thanks SEC. This is Captain Gordon sending a fond farewell!", was transmitted just as the frigate crossed the outer perimeter of the sphere. The two corvettes were in pursuit but were much slower than the frigate. They had each launched four drones which had closed half the distance that separated the corvettes and the frigate just as the frigate's image shimmered and it went to warp, vanishing off the grid.

With their target gone the lead corvette deactivated the warp field disruption probe. "This is Captain Gardner, Drift Class Corvette - Horizon of the VEF pursing a stolen vessel and the criminal in possession of it. We apologize for the intrusion into your space." The other corvette aligned in pursuit of the frigate and its image shimmered as it entered warp, also vanishing off grid. Captain Gardner in the Horizon remained on grid to communicate with the SEC carrier which was much larger than the one kilometer tall corvette.

Tarin stared a moment as he realized what was happening. "Has there been two transmissions coming in this entire time?" Tarin asked his staff his face clearly flushed. He watched as two of the ships disappeared off grid, before he turned to open a comm to Captain Gardner.

"Roger that captain Gardner sorry for the miscommunication it was due to a communications officers incompetence and I apologize for my mistake in identification. " Tarin said. "As for the entering of SEC space I would say you followed proper procedures and I believe no major issue is to be made of it." He added as pondered what to do next.

"Though I would be very interested in a briefing on this criminal if you can spare the time." Tarin said, he knew he had time to spare the charts were dead anyways and he had finished the organization of defensive preparation of SEC space. He was also dreading the mountain of pointless paperwork on his desk and this was an amusing distraction for the man.

A few short minutes later the trauma had been completely mitigated and his blood had been re-circulated. Every muscle in the man's body shook but the electrodes that had been placed above and below his heart had yet to be fed any current. His heart thumped and he inhaled sharply. "Soith tú! Lámhaigh tú dom!", the man screamed out and then moaned, pulling his hands to his head. He moaned again, opened his eyes and shook his head. "An Taiyou damanta. Frell dom. Tá mé an marbh ag siúl."

He tried and failed to sit up. "I wish you had not revived me. Why did you do it and what the frell did you do to me? My head...", he said, still laying in a fetal position on the table. "I was shot. I am shot... Going to die... Cá bhfuil mo long? Tá sé mianach damanta Varden. Tá sé íocaíocht dlite." Five implants were removed from the man's skull. The chip had been removed from the back of the man's right hand and about two fluid ounces of nanites. The nanites seemed passive and did not attempt to replicate in mass or devour objects like the ones at the bridge on Terra. There seemed no reason why the man had spontaneously revived.

The Taiyou scientist was somewhat surprised when the freshly cleaned and oxygenated blood began to circulate, and the man started to regain consciousness.

As he started to twitch and speak in his language, the pair of armed guards took a few steps forward, raising their weapons before the Doctor waved them down, shining a light in the man's eyes. "Impressive." Seno said, backing up.

"Get someone from the ISSP here. I think we have a lot of questions for this gentleman."

The Doctor nodded some. "I simply restored you back to your natural form, your implants will be studied before they're salvaged. And when the ISSP arrives, you will be questioned."

Detention Block

The Detention Blocks were a rather unremarkable set of cells, with whitewashed metallic walls spattered and marked with the blood of it's captives. There was a single metallic table, as well as shackles chained to the wall, in addition to shackles on the table, and a drain in the center of the floor.

There was no sign of the soldiers or the scientist, rather the door clunked and slid open to reveal a young Taiyou male, with a pair of soldiers behind him. The pair of soldiers approached Letch, and moved quickly to attempt to shackle him to the wall, ankles shackled shoulder width, and arms shackled straight out on each side.

Should he be secured, the young Male slowly stepped back and fourth, eyeing the man. "I have a few questions, if you answer them truthfully, your discomfort will be minimized. If you lie to me, then I cannot guarentee your comfort." The young man said, while a third Soldier wheeled in a cart with multiple metal utinsels, a bamboo cane, shards of bamboo, and a car battery with two electrodes attatched to jumper cables, in addition to a water hose which was hooked up to a spigot in the room, and a six foot long, one foot wide, two inch thick plank of wood.

"Tell me your name." Arakawa demanded.

The man allowed himself to be chained. He did not fight but at this point he could barely stand anyway. "You mean to tourture me.", he said in a statement. "I am an marbh Siúlóide. You will give me a clean death if I answer your questions?", he said, standing slumped near the table and eyed the implements. "Letch is my name. What is it you wish to know?"

"You will be allowed to die with honor, how you die will be up to the Tribunal to decide, but as it stands you are a prisoner of war." Arakawa explained, his eyes going over his torture implements.

"I want the location of your home worlds, military capabilities, positioning, troop strength, anything that might be relevant to say... someone looking to invade your galaxy." Arakawa said, straight to the point.

"In addition to the location of anything in this Galaxy and Andromeda that you might know of. Now be aware I am very good at telling if someone is lying. Pray I do not think you are lying, our methods are refined to a science, I will enjoy them thoroughly, but you... you will not."

"EGO.", he thought and there was no response. "EGO.", his mind went on and nothing came. "I am a privateer, a pirate, and a smuggler. I was born on a station in the Orien system in the region of Molten Heath within the galaxy of Ayenee. I would need a star chart to show you.", he said and then pressed his hands to his head. "Exactly what military do you mean?", he questioned and then very nearly fell.

"The forces of the combined nations that comprise the Varden." Arakawa said, sliding a picture of the frigate that attacked the Great Seto bridge towards the captive. "We believe they were behind an attack on our Shogunate." He said, narrowing his eyes. "I can provide star charts, but we'll need coordinates."

Arakawa felt slightly dissappointed, he was expecting someone much more formidible. "So you are a pirate, interesting. Perhaps I should first ascertain as to why you were here in the Sol System." The ISSP agent said, his expression darkening.

"You're a long way from home, Mr. Letch."

He smiled at the picture of the frigate. "That was my ship. Spiffy paint job they gave her, the bastards. Before you ask me who let me say that I would tell you if I knew. My first mate shot me in the back and threw me out the lock.", he said while shivering.

He then shook his head and lowered his hands. "You have it wrong. The Varden do not control member states. Most people call them **Concord in Ayenee. They are police, tools of the empires to keep each other and the corporations in line.", he said and once more nearly fell. "I am dizzy. May I sit? I will answer..."

**CONCORD stands for Consolidated Cooperation and Relations Command. CONCORD was founded not long after the five empires had established contact with each other. Relationships between the five empires were strained right from the start and one of the main purposes of CONCORD was to ease the fragile tension and create a foundation for the empires to work their differences out in a peaceful manner. In this regard, the workings of CONCORD can be said to have been successful, since the empires have kept the peace over the last few centuries. On numerous occasions relationships deteriorated to within an inch of all out war, but through the efforts of CONCORD a compromise solution has always been found.

The Detective nodded, and one of the Soldiers threw a small switch, the shackles and chains, which were attatched to a pulley system going into the wall relaxed, and provided more chain to allow the man to slump to the floor.

"You've been pretty fourth coming. So it was your ship that carried out the attack. Any particular reason why your first mate, or this Concord for that matter saw it fit to bomb one of the most important economic landmarks on Terra?" Arakawa asked.

"Seems they got too big for their britches, as the Terrans would say... because they're keeping other Empires in line, Empire that have no need for their... policing."

He slumped and sat. "I will give you what coordinates I can remember." He then looked up from the floor. "I was picking up a shipment of Terran spirits, tobacco, and drugs and was due to ship them to someone in Wicked Creek. Some executor of Test. I do not know why my crew member turned on me or why Concord would attack you.

Letch rubbed his temples. "It's not so much that.", he said while he held his head. "It is a delicate balancing act. The empires dance on the edge of war and they battle far from the galactic core of Ayenee and Eden but do not do so directly for fear the other four would turn on the one. Concord helps maintain a sort of balance and chases people like me. Do you ask for the strength of Concord, the empires, or the coalitions that battle for resources? The total count is beyond what I can fathom or decribe. Ayenee is vast and the coordinates will not help you get into the galactic core or even high security space."

"I just need a place to start." Arakawa said, before he nodded to a pair of Imperial Soldiers, one of them stepping from the detention room. "I'll get you those star charts, and a system to plot hyperspace coordinates." The ISSP detective said.

"Word of the attack hasn't reached Niihama, or the Emperor for that matter as far as I am aware, but it will only be a matter of time before the Empire mobilizes against the Varden on an official level."

Dr. Miyagi stood silent in observation as the ISSP detective carried on with his questioning.

"If you're a smuggler, we're going to need ways to avoid detection in addition to detecting their vessels. You're the most experienced in dealing with that, so I'm prepared to cut you a deal." Arakawa said flatly.

"It's a standard deal the Empire offers to the citizens and fugitives of it's enemies. You will be given asylum in exchange for your assistance in dealing with this threat. The more help you provide, the more comfortable we can make you. And I must say... the Empire has a lot... in the way of creature comforts for someone who has a discerning taste." The man added, just as the Imperial Soldier returned with several star charts, as well as observatory photographs, hyperspace charts, and other mapping implements.

"Once you provide us with this information, I will arrange for you to be unbound and fed, maybe even provided some books or a comfortable place to sleep.."

Letch slowly and unsteadily got to his feat when the charts were brought in. He riffled through them, pushing most to the side. The Hyperspace charts did not appear to help him at all and it did take him more than a few minutes to find what Arakawa was looking for but he didn't point it out just yet. "I am an marbh Siúlóide. I was told I would get a clean death. This is the only thing I request and will tell you everything you wish to know without resistance."

He grabbed one of the charts and lowered himself to the floor again. "If your talking about cloaking I can't really tell you more than I think you already know. Matter in close proximity to a cloaked object tends to disrupt that cloak. The more powerful the field, the more matter is needed. I spent more time hiding and running from CONCORD than I did trying to detect them. I would not have doubted the Black Harold or even Kuvakei if they had approached me and told me I had surpassed them on CONCORD's most wanted list."

Arakawa made a face, and then he nodded slowly.

"That word, what exactly does it mean?" He said, turning to one of his Imperial Soldiers, who turned to leave.

"If it is death you seek, death will be granted, but not now." He said.

"So to disrupt their cloak, you need matter... interesting..." Haruo said.

"There is no word in the common tongue that we speak now. The closest translation I can think of is 'the walking dead without a soul'. I had a clone in Orien. That clone was activated when I died and when my consciousness was transmitted. I am a dead man Taiyou. I have no soul.", he said with some degree of terror in his voice and then looked down at the chart. He folded it so one small patch was visible and then slowly stood before stretching his hand and the folded chart out to Arakawa and Haruo.

"CONCORD likely has me in Orien. They already know what has happened to me up to the point of my death. Will you not honor our agreement?", he said with desperation in his voice.

"When my government is satisfied with the information you have provided. You will be given your death. It will come swiftly and it will be painless." Arakawa said.

"But for now you are too valuable to be allowed to die quite yet. In time it will come."

After a moment went by, the soldier returned with a bow. "Sir, you're being asked to take the prisoner and transfer off the ship, and the Commander is requesting the coordinates to be given to Admiral Yamamoto."

Arakawa nodded a moment, and then turned back to the man before him. "The implant responsible for whatever transferred your consciousness, could it's signal be traced? The Implant responsible for your internal AI? I want access codes, whatever it takes to interface with the AI, and then you will be allowed to die with honor."

"I do not know. I would think it is possible but you would need to find the correct FTL channel before the transmission left and there are uncountable number of channels. It would be much easier to trace the origin than the destination. I doubt even the best CONCORD or Empire scientists could do it.", he said and then slowly lowered himself to the ground after giving the folded chart to the Taiyou.

"The implants allow the human population to compete with the other races of Ayenee though some would argue that we do not need them. They bestow such abilities as eidetic memory and reflexes so fast that they would be called by some, precognitive. They also allow us to link in with the technology directly. We need these things to react efficiently and effectively as pilots in Ayenee and Eden.", he said, rubbing the back of his head with his right hand.

"I'll have more questions for you in the near future." The Prince said, nodding to the Imperial Soldiers and Dr. Miyagi, before he started out towards the exit, and once everyone had departed, the door closed behind them, latching shut while the other Taiyou ships began to spool up their hyperdrives.

Though he was by himself, he was by no means unsupervised, or allowed to move freely. Once the door shut behind them, the chains tightened back up, restraining him against the wall with arms and legs immobilized, and a small security camera could be seen in the corner of the room.

----

It was a matter of time before the coordinates were provided to Admiral Uremeshi, the Commanding officer of the fleet, and then promptly entered into the ships computer.

"We have a calculation?" The Admiral asked, and a Lieutenant nodded. "At full throttle, and with newer hyperdrive engines, the trip should take fifteen months."

The Admiral nodded. "Prepare the fleet, we jump in thirty minutes. Mark."

After he was yanked back to the wall and unceremoniously restrained... 'EGO', he thought. 'EGO? Are you there?'

'Integrity... five... percent...', came the female voice with a broken reply.

'I need overcharge.'

'Unable... Recovery...'

'Time?'

'Unknown... Sustenance... required...', EGO replied directly.

Letch just hung around at that point. He attempted to wrap one of the chains around his neck to choke himself to death but the restraints were pulled to the wall too tightly.
