Steel Erutin bowed his head, understanding his duty to his mother, and thinking, perhaps, that he might understand a hint of what duty he now owed to the fatherland. "At once, mother." Stepping back, he tried his best to mimic a Belkan salute, bringing a rather intrigued smile to Redwing's face, who was taken aback for a moment in pleasant surprise. The boy might actually have some worth to him. Removing himself from their presence, Steel readied himself to try and explain the situation as best he could to Thistle.

"He has some spirit in him." Redwing whispered to Wing as Steel left, his strides having some force to them. He would make a landser, a shame that Wing didn't want him in the line of fire. Such spirit was the sign of a leader, if they ever had the chance for their talent to grow.

Wing smiled at him as he left and nibbled on some of her food before speaking. ā€œHe practiced that for hours until one of my guards finally told him he had it as right as they could help him get it. He spied on a conversation Kampf and I had when he was a boy and has been absolutely obsessed since. I'm only sad I never got a chance to introduce the late Emperor to my children.ā€ She was too. Her children were her world, but only recently had their father even okayed that non-Erutins may know of the four royal heirs.

Erutins were protective in nature, and parents could be the most protective out there, once bonded to their child.

Redwing leaned back, understanding Wing's pain and more. Kampf was her inspiration, her God. When she had spent days in the hospital after the Battle of the Gate, it was He from whom she drew strength. However, such thoughts made her wonder... why was it she no longer bore any of the scars? Odd, but the lord did work in mysterious ways. "A shame, truly, but He calls to us still. Your son is quite the proof of that." Offering a spare glance at this moment to her guard, she sighed and he simply continued to eat, having moved on to an Erutin dish. "But," She started, "tell me. I know that it would be unfair of us to call upon you to assist directly in our Crusade, and I know that war is not what your people desire." She sat her hands in her lap, rubbing the two together as she did, "But the x-... others. They will not see the difference. What if they bring the war to the shores of Dev Eru?"

War? To Dev Eru? Wing paled at the thought. ā€œI will shut down the gates. I...I cannot allow...ā€ She took a deep breath. The very idea! War on her home world. It shook her, they had only just recovered from the revolution. Wing gave a serene smile and turned to Redwing.

ā€œContingency plans are in place. However, with the five new planets, We confess war may touch Erutin shores despite Our desire to remain at peace. We will defend what is Ours and beat back those who would fight against Us.ā€ She said then shook her head. ā€œWe will also not fight our trading partners, whether Our allies do or not.ā€ She said, then relaxed slightly.

ā€œHowever, the Aschen and Taiyou are not Our trading partners and never will be. I do not take kindly to those whom point guns in my direction, or those whose soldiers threaten war over the actions of a child.ā€

Wing's reasons and demands were reasonable, as her people likely hadn't developed the taste for conflict that the Belkans had, forged in the crucible of centuries of unyielding warfare. "Your reasons are both logical and legitimate, and I understand that your people have plans for such an event, Emperor forbid that it ever come." Breathing for a moment, Redwing was distracted by a rather noisy and unattractive sound issuing forth from beside her, one she did her best to ignore, "I was meaning to offer you material aid."

She, of course, was referring to war material: ships, weapons, armor, supplies. If nothing else the Hegemony prided itself on its martial culture. She had, of course, her own reasons for making such an offer, but it was a legitimate one.

Redwing intentionally blinked, not wanting to appear resolute on the issue, yielding to her fellow monarch. "The war in Home is our own, we simply thought that there were better uses for old vessels than target practice." Leaning forward in her seat, she didn't wish to seem dismissive, and looked again to Wing, trying her best to put on a fair gaze, away from her usual hawkish one. "The offer stands, should you or your people ever require it. Regardless of whether you take it," She relaxed somewhat, trying to be amiable, an alien concept. "the Hegemony's protection stands. We know who our allies are."

Redwing smiled genuinely, the grin noticeably different than her diplomatic gestures, at the mention of Erutin support in the war to come. Steel, in Redwing's plans, would play quite a role. Quite a roll indeed. "I am happy to hear such, and we will do our best with him. I'm sure he'll make a fine officer." Genuine as she was, it still seemed off. Honesty with Redwing was an odd thing. First of all it was an oxymoron, secondly, one never knew how to interpret it.

Redwing reassured Wing, doing her best to instill in her mind that the LandwƤchter was a benevolent organization. "His safety is our primary concern." She wasn't lying, entirely, as some very valuable technology rode on the alliance that the two nations shared. But, then again, saying that the LandwƤchter was a organization with only the best in mind for Steel would be like saying that a she-wolf would look at a babe as her own. "You are more than welcome to visit him during his stay. Save for basic training."

"The isolation is to help promote an independent mind. We value initiative in our people before all else." I nothing else this was a blatant lie, though she didn't let it show. The basic training was there to do just the opposite, to make one reliant. Reliant on the government, reliant on the military, reliant on one's superiors. Given, this was something of a flawed system, but that's why the command structure of frontline forces was so decentralized. "Given, he will have one or two weeks off during the three month program, but he will need to concentrate on his duties. His poor sister is more than welcome to stay nearby, should she so wish, and anytime he was released she could go see him." If anything, she spoke the truth here, though almost anything he said would be redacted. "And there's always letters."

The meeting was a planned one, unlike their previous encounter, and Redwing was sure to look her best, as she always did with foreign dignitaries. Seated cross legged behind her desk, in the building only recently dedicated to political meetings on TannhƤuser, she was somewhat uncomfortable away from her home at the LandwƤchter headquarters, but she shrugged it off, not wanting to give any quarter to the Erutin who would soon be present. That wasn't to say that the two people's didn't enjoy a fruitful relationship, but these two in particular... well. To put it lightly, it was colorful. With a pot of tea resting on the desk before her, she had forgone pouring any for herself thus far, waiting on her guest.

Who, by Redwing's reckoning, should be arriving rather soon. Pursing her lips, Liese looked about her makeshift office, which was much more gaudy than her official appointment. Rather grand, twin portraits of Josef and Otto gazed at each other from opposite sides of the room, on either side of the door, and a grandiose fresco of the Hegemony's territory stretched upon the wall behind her, its borders and key planets illuminated with holograms. All of it was made to inspire a sense of awe, and perhaps it did, though Redwing paid it little heed. Few things mattered to her, least of them the coming meeting. While Steel was a good servant and quite the tool, he was of no real concern. His well-being was something that depended entirely upon him.

Not that his mother would ever know.

The woman was shown into Redwing's office before too long, the guards performing as admirably as possible, and Liese rose to meet her. What was done was done, and in an almost sick sort of innocence, Redwing considered the matter finished. She also considered it a sort of business interaction, rather than anything personal. Being as she'd do it to anyone, given the chance. Saluting the Erutin ambassador idly, she offered as pleasant a greeting that Hope would likely hear from her lips, "Good evening, Anona." Though Redwing smiled as she spoke, one could see the truth of her in her eyes, which looked at Hope as little more than an animal.

Again, in an almost sick sense, it wasn't personal, nor was it even to the Erutins in general. She did it to everyone, save but a handful.

Nodding in response, Redwing slid the manilla folder, something which members of the Ministry of the Interior had figured would rate as being more personable, which contained the report across the desk to Hope, the tips of her nails scratching the material. "He's quite the young man. I wish that every one of our sons were so devoted." Hope's next comment, though spiteful, was to be expected, considering how the two had gotten on before.

"Thank you, his sacrifice does mean a great deal." Her words burned Redwing, but for more reasons than Hope would understand. "I only wish he could stand here today, in my stead."

Redwing had retaken a position of parade rest as Hope spoke, not removing her gaze from Hope as she spoke, feigning interest. "He is, actually. Most foreign volunteers drop out in the first three weeks. The LandwƤchter will be proud to call him a brother." Stahl would prove to be a rather loyal servant, hopefully one whose mettle would only be strengthened in the forge of war. Redwing's company, however, didn't allow for many spare moments, and again made an inquiry, one that was answered in good time. "Within the year, pending weather. He's making good progress."

Redwing blinked at this, having before not known of her involvement in the area. She didn't let it show, however, and rolled with the subject as it came. "But of course. Thistle, isn't it?" She hoped she'd recalled the name correctly, she wasn't terribly good with names. Belkan names were always much easier to remember, especially surnames, "Tell me, Hope, how go things outside of the Cluster? All I ever hear from is the front."

Redwing shrugged, looking rather the part of an apologetic woman, save that her eyes bore a twinkle of entertainment, of something much more than mischief. "Was only a question, and unless you have any issue to bring up, I am done. Unless you'd like to stay for dinner." Reflexively, Liese offered a hint of a smirk, unconsciously. "I don't know whether working can work up an appetite for you, I know it does me."

Redwing returned to her seat at this, smirking to herself. The Erutin were serving their purpose for now, and perhaps had some role yet to play, as Kampf was keen to see. His wisdom truly did extend beyond his being, and Liese sighed. It was odd, this feeling she felt. This loss. Kampf was her Emperor and Lord, yes, and she felt the pang of every Belkan's loss. But... She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. Perhaps her sight was clouded by the sparring match that she and Hope had partaken in. It had taken a great deal of willpower to resist striking her for her casual disregard for their faith.

As wise as He was, sometimes she had a hard time comprehending Him.

The failing light of the day was giving its final efforts to push through the office's panoramic window, reflecting eagerly off of the dome of the Gotteshalle which lay to the left of the window's sight. It wasn't an imbalanced relation, however, as the sprawling palace of the Emperor lay on the other, much more wide than the dome across from it was tall. The distance was roughly four kilometers, though from this vantage they seemed to be closer, perhaps only one. The wonders of illusion.

Redwing sighed, having moved to the window only a moment or two prior, and was leaning on a table, looking wistfully to the metropolis below. Her tunic was left back on the chair at her desk, and she seemed somewhat less intimidating with her white dress shirt, interrupted only by a black tie and the suspenders that held tightly to her breeches. Things were different with the regime change... and not for the better, at least in some ways. She always liked the dusk, there was something about it that was primal and comforting, away from the brightness of day and before the shroud of night.

Hope Anona. This Erutin always managed to be a source of interest for Redwing, as they kept on managing to run into each other, perhaps Wing had some other demand to make of them... There was just a point where an adult can't take the whims of a child anymore, and this was beginning to approach it. The least they could do was choose a better envoy than this woman. Redwing waved her hand once more, in a gradual, sweeping manner, informing the men and women that there was no need for violence just yet. They lowered their rifles, still standing by should their regent require them. "Perhaps. I'm glad to see that you're finally coming to reason, Hope." Redwing began to descend the stairs which lead to the window, down towards her desk, and ran a hand along her head, making sure that her swarthy hair had remained tight in its bun.

She didn't want to seem disheveled, after all, especially considering what was going through her head earlier. "So what brings you here today, business for pleasure?"
