"Lord-Regent" Radegast the Trainer

"Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man."

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by HolyJunkie

Description

Image Image "Lord-Regent" Radegast Rondo "Dreads" Reginald is a plain, and very laid-back sixteen-year-old dude, who is very friendly with nature. Though he’s not a stoner, his demeanour would make one mistake otherwise. His chill attitude is only betrayed by the variety of pokemon he has gathered together in a single team. Due to a less than ideal childhood, he's learned that he doesn’t much like to fight. That being said, he would not hesitate to do so to help his friends. He does not find it fitting to be referred to as a "trainer", but in this world, avoiding labels can't be helped. He is humble to a fault, with an astonishingly low opinion on his own worth in the world, but he also does not allow that to bring him down. This low opinion on his worth, coupled with his long time in the wild, has made him very unused to interaction with humans. He greatly values the concept of freedom, and believes that everyone should have the freedom to do what they want. That being said, he is also against anyone who threatens the freedom of himself and others.

He is quick to encourage and trust in others forging their own path, developing their own strength, even if they are strangers.

Radegast is an especially strange boy. An obscenely chill person, yet his friends have, despite the boy's peaceful nature, been raised and trained to be incredibly effective combatants. (Mostly by their own efforts, rather than Radegast's.) Their collective power only pales in comparison to their collectively burning loyalty. Despite holding to no long-term goals in life, there must be something about this boy that commands the respect of vicious and lazy creatures such as RAGE and Suros.

The human stands at about 5'7", and is slightly pudgy in his mid-section. His arms and legs have a build that implies that he has done climbing, hiking, and a lot of hand-to-hand fighting throughout his journeys, despite the girth. His brown hair goes out in thick dreadlocks, and his eyes are a deep ocean blue. He has scars over most of his body. The most prominent are the claw marks across his chest, the scars on his knuckles, and an acid burn on his right shoulder. The Acid burn vaguely resembles the number 3.

Due to a makeover, his naturally brown dreadlocks are currently blonde, and tied into a traditional-style Alolan braid. His blue eyes are turned green due to contact lenses.

He has survived in the wild for six years now, and as such has keen survival skills rivalled only by those who have survived the wilderness more than he has. He is skilled with wood carving, and is very knowledgable about shelters, building his own tools, and identifying good plants from poisons. He also developed a resistance to most toxins and the like, mainly because he's often too lazy to set up any shelters for himself beyond a campfire. He does not carry many utensils, oftentimes he builds them on the fly using materials he and his friends find in the wild. The others of his team are particularly skilled in building survival equipment as well. In fact, building such things is the only real "training" Radegast ever gave them. Due to his heritage, he is able to intimidate through his "Reginald" side, where his commanding voice could influence wild strangers to at least consider his "suggestions". He prefers not to use that voice.

Once upon a time, was a member of Team Skull under the gangsta name "Dreads".

Recently nearly killed, returned to life by the King of Depths, but has since taken on the form of a Gallade. While he does look pretty typical for a Gallade, aspects of his original body have carried over, such as his dreadlocks, his build, his scars, and his blue eyes. Additionally, his arms contain a kelp-like pattern that wraps around before meeting an end at the tip of the elbow blades. He also wears the Limiter- a glassy black gauntlet- over his right hand.

Level: 64
Abilities: Steadfast, Justified. Also has Stamina, due to his long travels.
Moves:
-Close Combat - As a natural fighter, he's boosted his brawling potential by improving the precision of otherwise wild attacks. However, this still cuts on his Defense and Sp.Def.
-Calm Mind - He meditates, as taught by Vorpal. This boosts his psychic output and hardiness. (Sp.Att and Sp.Def) Also used to keep control on his power.
-Swords Dance - An exercise form with a blade in hand. This hones his ability with the blade. (Att raised sharply)
-Heal Pulse - Taught by a Gardevoir in Kalos. By tapping into his own healing factor, he boosts that of his own, and shares it psychically to anyone and anything within a radius. However, he needs a few precious seconds in order to perform it, and it heals without discrimination.
-"Elemental Edge" - The principles of Psycho Cut, but he is learning to apply different types of energy into the blades. All variants are considered Physical, but they can be launched a short distance before dissipating. Current blades unlocked:
>Slash (Normal) - The Normal-type edge, no added energies.
>Psycho Cut (Psychic) - The basic Psychic blade. Focuses psychic energy into his blade and unleashes it either as a melee attack, or up to two metres away.
>Leaf Blade (Grass) - By pulling photons out in a similar fashion to Grass-type pokemon, he can convert the Psycho Cut into a Leaf Blade.

Other abilities:
-Improved metabolism: Allows him to heal from most wounds with relative ease. It's not exactly a Wolverine-style healing factor, but a dislocated shoulder would heal fully within a day if set back in properly. Thanks to his Gallade form, the healing factor is somewhat improved, especially when it comes to the usage of berries and potions.
-Mind Probe: The bread and butter of all Psychic-types, typically used to project thoughts and read minds. Projecting thoughts allows him to speak either aloud, or sending messages directly to another mind. The effectiveness of mind-reading depends on the user's mental strength against the target's mental strength.
-Leg Boost: By focusing energy into his legs, Radegast can dart forward at great speeds, and even use said bursts to take off in great leaps.
-Enhanced agility: Through training with Janine, he is particularly agile, and finally has the training required for parkour maneuvers.
-Sword & Shield training

FUSION: The Reginald Coat of Arms- due to its unique nature- can fuse with Radegast to bolster both of their combat abilities.
Current fusion output: 12%
Fusion grants +1 to Attack, and Defense. As output increases, their power increases.
The Graveller Tribe Suit grants the "Fur Coat" effect, where physical damage is halved.

THE ATTIRE
X1 Cap, given to him by Uncle Tarma.
X1 Black leather jacket with purple sleeves. On the back is a design depicting a stylized Skorupi.
X1 black thermal undershirt
X2 T-shirts, one black one light grey
X2 navy blue cargo pants, slightly thicker material to take a beating while maintaining mobility.
Socks and Underwear
X1 pair of Light Steel-toed boots
X1 backpack, single sling.
X2 bandanas
X1 Leg satchel
X1 Pokemon trainer's belt, with pokeball latches.

The Limiter - A gauntlet made from a prismatic material, gifted to Radegast by Floyd the Necrozma. Allows safe fusion with Reginald the Aegislash, at the cost of raw power output. The prism adapts to the growing power of the wearer.
The Graveller Tribe Suit - A suit of padding and plates made by an old tribe of Geodude, Graveller, and Golem, when they used to have a human tribe among them. While it is very traditional, it was designed with form and function in mind. The Suit was created to allow a human to stand closer to even footing against powerful Fighting-types. It halves physical damage against him when worn.
The Galladite and Keystone - Small stones used in Mega Evolution. Currently unusable until the technique for Mega Evolution is figured out.

THE TEAM: (with the exception of Chrome, who's at level 1, every member has level 5 affection.)

Elder the Gengar (ghost-poison) LEVEL 46
The only one who has any self-awareness and a sense of humour. Also the wisest of the bunch, hence the name. He always has an eye for spotting weakness and determining exploits or improvements upon those weaknesses. Very willing to fight dirty for the survival of his team. He also prefers to stay out of his pokeball so he can study opponents to determine weaknesses. With that self-awareness, as he evolves, Elder becomes more and more sinister and prone to jokes and pranks.
In his previous life, he was a Toxicroak scholar, who was exiled for taking interest in dangerous ideas.
He has a scar over his right eye from the Houndour and Houndoom pack. Now long-faded with only the most subtle of evidence remaining.
Met Radegast in a forest, where they escaped a pack of Houndour and Houndoom together. Evolved to Haunter after an encounter on the PTA Island. Evolved to Gengar to save Radegast from a drop down a cliff.
Reason for Loyalty: They're two peas in a pod.
Abilities: Levitate and Shadow Tag, Also can vanish into any shadow, and go into a mist form like all ghosts.
Current Moveset:
-Toxic: Manifests as a putrid dark cloud. Combination with Poison Gas grants range and area of effect.-
-Lick: Using a particular poisonous saliva indigenous to the Ghastly family, it inflicts a powerful paralysis.
-Confuse Ray: Manifests as a quick flash of blinding light. A split-second of blindness, followed by hallucinogenic vision for the victim- thus inflicting confusion.
-Dark Pulse: A pulse of Dark Energy. Slower, but much more powerful.
-Venoshock: A deadly jab that dispenses deadlier punch when the target is already poisoned.
-Hypnosis: Utilizing the hallucinogenic nature of his Confuse Ray, instead flashes a series of colours that puts the target to sleep.
Hold Item:

Crystal the Dewgong (water-ice) LEVEL 46
She’s a professional, very no-nonsense, but also very normal. She doesn’t call too much attention to herself, but her water and ice abilities make her practically the most powerful on the team, not including Suros. She sees RAGE as a rival for raw power. Evolved to Dewgong in the Castelia Sewers to have the power to freeze an ocean breach.
Saved by Radegast during a storm off a tropical island.
Her eyes darken to pits when ready to fight. Is otherwise normal for a wild Dewgong.
Reason for Loyalty: Radegast has lived up to his promise.
Abilities: Thick Fat and Ice Body. She can also levitate.
Current Moveset:
-Ice Beam: A beam of "anti-thermal energy", that rapidly absorbs all heat within the target, potentially freezing them solid. The science of it is beyond me.
-Icy Wind: Manifests as a bone-chilling wind. If heavily focused, it can form solid ice. She uses this to build walls or platforms if the group needs such things.
-Headbutt: A headbutt... Though the pain delivered is amplified by her horn.
-Aqua Jet: Manifests as a laser of water, only instead of piercing power, it holds great punching power. Inflicts intense knockback against victims.
-Rest: Falls asleep, boosting her regenerative abilities on an immeasurable scale.
Hold Item:

Suros the Talonflame (fire-flying) LEVEL 63
A very lazy bird. So lazy that she often prefers not to fly. This laziness clashes with her otherwise undying loyalty to her trainer. Her loyalty is more out of her similarities to Radegast. When she does kick the lazy habit, she's absolutely terrifying.
Met Radegast on a random path, where they became friends in almost an instant. Evolved into a Fletchinder more out of necessity, when she knew she needed speed in order to handle a huge mob of Psychic Rebellion mooks. Evolved to a Talonflame when she became sick and tired of the Psychic Rebellion refusing to "Live and Let Live". Now she's keen on destroying all of them if she gets the chance. Her fury has been unleashed, and the laziness has taken a back seat.
Her plumage is in perfect shape, for no one has ever managed to scar her.
Once had two brothers, Omolon and Hakkë. Both were murdered by Demonbreath.
Long ago, she slew a Dragonite known as Demonbreath. This has made her name, "Demonslayer" a legend among wild Pokemon. She prefers to avoid revealing that she is the Demonslayer, however. She would rather hang out with Radegast and the others.
Defeated RAGE effortlessly once upon a time.
Reason for Loyalty: It's more like a one-sided love on top of a mutual friendship.
Abilities: Flame Body and Gale Wings. Roosting comes naturally due to her laziness, making "healing during downtime" a rather unique ability.
Current Moveset:
-Peck: A savage jab, stab, slash, or any kind of attack using her hardened beak.
-Growl: An uncharacteristically savage rumble that renders would-be-attackers very unnerved.
-Roost: She might as well always do this, meaning she's always in tip-top condition when she ever does decide to join the fray.
-Sand Attack: Using a combination of her talons and wings, sends any dirt or sand flying in the face of her opponents within a cone.
-Flamethrower: Her flames are back in business, woe to the poor soul who is struck by a blast of this fire.
-Aerial Ace: A savage and deadly accurate flying slash with her talons or beak.
Hold Item:

RAGE the Primeape (fighting) LEVEL 46
He carries the rage of a thousand ancient evils. His rage is unparalleled even by Mankey standards, and is an incredibly powerful opponent. An immensely large ham, who is oblivious to most every concept except for fighting.
Met Radegast out on a random trail, where Rage had been exiled by his clan for being too violent and strong. He lost to Suros, and considers it his biggest shame next to losing out on the last rice ball to the Operative. Evolved to Primeape during a fight in the first Unova Gym.
His eyes are sunken like the pits of hell, but the irises blaze with infinite fire.
Reason for Loyalty: He sees Radegast for who he is, and greatly respects the ideals the human holds to.
Abilities: Anger Point and Defiant, also Sturdy due to his infinite fury. Attacking him only makes him more angry and stronger.
Current Moveset:
-Cross Chop: MY BARE HAND HOLDS AN IMMEASURABLE POWER!!!!!! (any standard strike with his fists counts as this)
-Low Kick: THE BIGGER THEY ARE, THE HARDER THEY FALL! GET ON MY LEVEL!!!! (any standard strike with his legs counts as this)
-Seismic Toss: ANY GRAPPLING MOVE I CAN PERFORM, I PERFORM WITH STRENGTH WORTHY OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE COSMOS!!!!
-Leer: THEY WILL KNOW MY SOUL WHEN I GAZE UPON THEIR FRAIL EXISTENCE! THEY WILL KNOW THEY ARE FRAIL AND WILL NEVER COMPARE! THEY WILL LEARN THAT THEY CAN NEVER BE AS STRONG AS THE FURY OF RAGE!!!
-Earthquake: SUNDER THE EARTH UNDER THE INFINITE POWER OF RAGE!!!
-Rock Slide: FLY TO THE MOON, FLY ACROSS THE STARS, FOR THERE IS NO ESCAPE!!!
Hold Item:

“Operative Galvantula” (electric-bug) LEVEL 46
A true professional, a black-ops soldier to the core
At least, she fancies herself as one. Her demeanour is heavily inspired by a Pokemon Mystery TV show she used to watch while hiding in a human facility, called "Tracy the Tracker". Very pretentious, and willing to cut corners, but would pull her weight in the moment of truth. She gets along very well with Elder, as they are both very technique and tactics-focused.
Met Radegast in the lower levels of a dam, where they took on a mad Ursaring together. Evolved into Galvantula thanks to a super-charging during an encounter with a Raikou.
No unique markings or mannerisms, very much an ordinary Galvantula.
Reason for Loyalty: Great respect as a compassionate warrior.
Abilities: Compound Eyes, Unnerve and Swarm. Her legs allow her incredible jumping and climbing capabilities, and translates to a natural +1 to evasion.
Current Moveset:
-Electroweb: Manifests as an electrically charged string shot. Inflicts paralysis on those caught in the webbing. When the charge is spent, it becomes ordinary String Shot.
-String Shot: Manifests as uncharged silk produced by the Joltik's natural bodily function.
-Bug Bite: A fierce, piercing bite.
-Thunder Wave: It's a Thunder Wave... I mean, come on...
-Struggle Bug: It's Struggle Bug.
-Cut: A savage slash with a mandible or claw. Able to slice through trees with a single swipe.
Hold Item:

Chrome the Metagross (psychic-steel) LEVEL 42
A selfish creature with care only for it's own survival. Quite intelligent, and a quick thinker in a combat scenario, but narrow-minded in it's preference to stay away from humans. It is aware of it's covetable "shiny shell", and has been chased by many a trainer for the prized shiny quality. It finds difficulty in trusting others, but currently sees that a laid-back human would make a perfect cover to keep the other trainers away. Unfortunately, it sees Radegast only as a means to an end. Met Radegast on the trail to Virbank. Evolved during the Gym Challenge at Nimbasa, where it faced against Leader Elesa.
Is shiny, with a silver shell and golden claws.
Reason for Loyalty: Self-serving. Hanging with a human keeps other humans away. However, Chrome sees that Radegast is not like other humans.
Abilities: Clear Body and Light Metal. It is capable of speaking the human language through magnetic telepathy.
Current Moveset:
-Headbutt: It hovers using consistent psychic/magnetic energy that it controls like second-nature. This second-nature can be interrupted if it is startled.
-Metal Claw: Obviously, a metallic claw.
-Take-Down: Very similar to Headbutt, only this also has a different goal. The knockback does not affect the solid structure of the Beldum as much as most other pokemon that use Take-Down.
-Zen Headbutt: A psychic-charged headbutt, and it's most powerful attack at the moment.
-Rock Slide: Using psychic energy, throws rocks
-Earthquake: ... What the heck do you think it is?
Hold Item:

THE FRIENDS / ALLIES:
Roxie the Gym Leader
The Pokken Club
Crimson and other Wildlings of the Crimson Guild
Touko the Champion
Lukas the reigning Alolan Champion - currently captured by Regicide Crew.
Hau the Challenger
Team Reskull
The King of the Depths - As well as the other leaders of the Seven Clans of the Ocean Floor. Although they have since disowned Radegast's friendship due to his unexpected, abominable form.

Absolute the Articuno - And the Ice-type pokemon of Crystal's home island.
The Treehouse - AKA The Lord-Regent's Villa. Home of a group of Pokemon who run the place in the Lord-Regent's absence.
Reginald the Aegislash - Despite the Coat of Arms' robotic, monotone demeanour, as well as the complicated rift between the family, "Reggie" values the safety of all who bear the Reginald name above even it's own. It would slaughter those who dare threaten the lives of the Reginalds, whether without, or even against the command of the standing Patriarch. It is less a Pokemon, and more a Stand. Having been around since the beginning of the family line, it is obscenely powerful, incredibly experienced, and is dangerous even to Legendaries. Is now currently protecting Radegast.
The Mad Ursaring - Tormented into madness by the Man in the Weird Suit. Successfully rehabilitated and returned to the wilds of Johto.

THE ENEMIES:
The Reservoir Group - A band of mercenary trainers, doing jobs for a paycheck. Usually criminal activity. Once led by Leopold, the Man in the Weird Suit- who was defeated at the Lake of Rage and left in the hands of the Mad Ursaring. Leopold's fate is currently unknown.
Team Trebuchet - Currently in disarray, with many members arrested by the Police. The big names, however, have managed to escape, and currently plan to regain momentum, funding, and their members.
The Regicide Crew - A section of Team Aqua dedicated to deep-sea research/conquest, has had many a run-in with the Seven Clans of the Ocean Floor, as well as Absolute the Articuno. Currently has captured a Necrozma, as well as Demonbreath.
Steelfist - Rage's rival, and ex-chieftain, crippled by Suros, but still lives. Holds a seething hatred for Radegast, Suros, and especially Rage.
Weyloran - Sister of Felwinter, blames Suros for the death of Felwinter.
Bretomart - The Bellows, The Demonbreath- a powerful Dragonite who once terrorized a region. Slain by Suros, but resurrected and now enslaved by the Regicide Crew
The Reginald Family - His family are "enemies" due to a clash of ideologies. Only Tarma seems to understand Radegast's motives, even if leaving has caused nothing but trouble.
School bullies - Many of them hold a grudge into their adolescence. Who knows where they may emerge.
Marcus Reginald's Palkia - Don't ask.
The Psychic Rebellion - Though Radegast doesn't even know what that is.

However, one of the Master's Lucario pointed him in the right direction: Terminus Cave. Once there, he meets Titania- who is also in the search for key stone. Team One: Dobro and Domingo

The land was just about flattened where Team Justice was. Had it not been for Dobro throwing trees at the oncoming gang members like javelins, the place would be cluttered with them. Instead, only two lonely trees remained standing. The ground beneath them was nothing but dust because of how trampled their area was. And only two Pokemon remained for them to fight.

Dobro was dealing with a rather agile Staraptor while Domingo claw-to-horn battled Murkrow. Dobro's disadvantage was that he was still rather slow from knocking down so many trees that the Staraptor was having a claw fest with him. Domingo's was his injuries.

Team Justice backed up into each other, each holding off their attackers. The two flyers knew they had an advantage like this and started flying around the two like buzzards.

"Dobro!" Domingo was staring up at the sky. "Toss me up there!"

Without hesitation, the Pangoro grabbed the Samurott and chucked him in the air as hard as he could. It was enough for Domingo to fly high enough to meet the two flying birds, who were close together and planning an attack. Domingo was flying right in between the two and he knew the perfect move.

Now! He used Razor Shell right before he was their height. The result was a spinning spiky top of destruction tearing through their pow-wow. The shock of this caused the Flying-Types to free fall from the sky, plummeting to and hitting the land below. The Murkrow had fainted, but the Staraptor decided it wasn't worth his time and fled the scene.

Dobro caught Domingo before he fell to the same fate as Murkrow, placing him down gently. Domingo sighed in relief.

"At least you caught me this time," he looked around him, surveying the damage they'd done. Well, the little clearing was now a big clearing. Their alcove they fought in was impressively flattened enough, but the rest of the woods around it was pretty battle torn as well. The only major patch of green he could see in the area was the grass around the berry bushes. Otherwise, it was either covered by dust or ripped to shreds.

So that's how you turn a Grass-Type arena into a Ground-Type arena...

Dobro walked over and plucked up one of the fallen trees, placing it on his shoulder. His prize... Domingo walked around until he spotted Elder and company...plus two. He noticed the Fletchling and the Seel next to them. They had all been fighting, probably with the same intensity as Dobro and Domingo had been. Domingo approached, Dobro close behind, reaching into his pack in search for something.

"So, this is your other two, I'm assuming," the Samurott motioned towards the Fire and Water types he hadn't encountered yet. "I'd say from the icicles I see protruding everywhere, you guys handled our 'friends' as well as we did."

"Berry," Dobro called out, flicking one to Domingo. He caught it in his teeth and started chewing. The Oran variety. Already he was feeling a little bit better, a little more healed up. As he swallowed, letting the effects of the berry take place, he continued. "I don't think we really got introductions, did we? I'm Domingo and this is my buddy, Dobro." The Pangoro crossed his arms, still holding the tree like it was some kind of weapon. Maybe it really was his "power bat".

Rage continued to shout in utter victory as he shouted various challenges to the heavens, something about “BRING THINE STRONGEST DEITIES AND I SHALL PEEL THEM APART LIKE A TINY SITRUS BERRY!”

Operative hopped in glee, while Suros relaxed. Crystal was about to report the state of Radegast when the other two introduced themselves as Domingo and Dobro.

Elder responded as he pointed to each respective pokemon, “I am called Elder, and these are, in order, Crystal, Suros, The Operative, and Rage. We are friends of the Lord-Regent.”

“That’s right, the Lord-Regent!” Suros blurted out, “He’s fallen into a cavern nearby!”

Elder’s eyes widened at the news. “Are you serious?! Why didn’t you mention it sooner?!” His voice, for once, seemed almost shaky. “Lead the way, Suros.”

Suros hopped at-attention, “You got it!”

The ruined section of forest meant that the previously burned-in path was well-hidden under disturbed leaves and splinters. “
 Shit
” Suros muttered. “I marked a tree with a symbol of the Lord-Regent. I think it was
 this way? No, that

”

Elder’s eye began to twitch. “Is he alright?”

“Not exactly,” Crystal replied quickly, “Dislocated arm, sprained foot. He’s being tough about it, but he’s still in a cave.”

“We need to find that tree,” Elder said. Everyone else didn’t need telling twice. The other four split off to search for the tree, “Keep close!” The ghastly then turned to the other two pokemon- the much larger allies. “I’m sorry this conversation was short-lived. You said you were looking for something as well?

—

Radegast’s foot felt a lot better by the time he finished massaging the sprain. He still remained seated in the middle of the cave, directly below the open hole far above. Despite the injury, he seemed perfectly calm about his predicament. Considering he had no pokemon immediately with him, this calmness seemed especially unusual.

Radegast opened his eyes slowly as he heard voices from above, followed by an excited shout from an unfamiliar voice. The name being said sounded like
 something large
it sounded like a Pangoro. The human had never heard a Pangoro before. Radegast glanced up at the hole. His eyes having adjusted to the darkness, he couldn’t see who was looking down from the bloom.

“Yo, what’s up?” Radegast called.

—

Everyone converged on the shout. As rapidly as they could, each member of the team bounded through the forest at the voice of Dobro. It turned out Rage was the closest.

“FRIEND RADEGAST!” Rage shouted as he leaped down the hole with nary a second thought.

Elder arrived second, followed by Operative, Crystal, and Suros. “Jeez, it was the opposite direction after all,” the Fletchling groaned in embarrassment.

Operative scrambled up the closest tree- the one with the scorched markings- and began weaving a thick rope out of silk threads. The tiny bug made sure not to electrically charge the webbing, and started lowering the makeshift rope down the hole.

Crystal also hopped down, leaving Suros to relax and roost on the ground while Elder remained the diplomat. “Now that we found our friend, what were you guys looking for?” The ghastly asked. His eyes were no longer intense with near-panic. Rather, he seemed uncharacteristically relaxed.

—

“Hey! Good to see you guys!” Radegast greeted as he bumped fists with Rage and Crystal. “How was the fight?”

“THEY WERE AS NUMEROUS AS THEY WERE WEAK BEFORE THE ANCIENT POWER OF RAGE!”

“They were taken off-guard, and were easily divided,” Crystal elaborated, “I’m sure if they got the drop on us, we’d have had a harder time. I’m glad we won quickly.”

“Hey, don’t worry about me, dudes.” Radegast laughed, “Whatever will be will be.”

Operative’s rope slowly, but surely dropped lower and lower. “You doing alright, Operative?” Radegast called when the rope was half-way to the cavern floor, still out of reach. “That’s a lot of silk, dude.”

“This is nothing, sir!” Operative clicked.

So those two up top, they new friends?” Radegast asked as he gently pet Crystal. “I guess Elder’s doing the talking, eh?”

Team One: Dobro and Domingo

"Woah!" Dobro had to sidestep as Rage darted past him, jumping in the hole. Otherwise, he would've been taken down there with him and it is probably much harder to get a Pangoro out of a cavern like that than a human...probably. Nevertheless, he had to laugh at the way he'd just ran past and plopped into the hole.

Elder was the next on the scene, the look of relief evident on his face, followed by the twitchy Operative, the content Crystal, and the embarrased Suros. The Seel joined the Mankey in the hole while the Joltik got to work on a rope. Dobro walked over to the rope, ready to pull the three out of the hole whenever Joltik was ready, considering their main muscle decided to jump in to the hole with their Lord-Regent.

Meanwhile, Domingo spoke with Elder as the diplomat from their side.

“Now that we found our friend, what were you guys looking for?” Elder had asked.

"Well, I was wondering if you had seen a Greninja and a Houndoom around here anywhere," Domingo answered gruffly. "Or if at all possible...a Zoroark?" He was hoping he would say yes to the first two and no to the third. Zane was a crafty and cruel piece of work and he was hoping that he hadn't snuck through the portal with everyone else who'd gone on this mission. He knew that their team of seven would be enough to take him on, no problem. But if it came down to a solo fight between him and Zane...he wasn't sure he'd be able to do it. He hadn't beaten him before...only Crimson held that right.

Team Two: Pert and Meryl

Duck!

Meryl reacted to instinct and hit the deck. She felt the whizzing of an attack just by her left ear. Sweeping her feet behind her, she felt something hit her legs, followed by a resounding thud! against the ground. She flipped around, landing on her feet and Thunderbolting the Sableye where it stood. She was so glad she picked that TM...

Another attack from behind, this time she couldn't sense it beforehand. She yelped at the sudden pain and rolled forward. Concentrating, she focused on being a bit faster...a bit dodgier...a bit like Crimson. She had Agility on her side and used it, turning around and flipping over the other Sableye, landing a kick as she did so. Now it was the Sableye's turn to get up shakily but there would be no reprieve from Meryl. By the time he'd even gotten close to some position to fight, she was already there, charging her strikes with Spark.

And then another interruption, a sudden hit on her head sent her bouncing against the ground, sliding to a stop a few feet down the trail. Groaning, she was rather slow to get up. Everything hurt at this point. She didn't know how long she could take this kind of beating. She'd only managed to take out two of the Sableye, leaving her with three to deal with at once. The sheer number of them attacking at once was extremely hard to deal with, considering every time she would get on some kind of roll, her strikes would be interrupted by one of theirs, usually resulting in more pain.

Meanwhile, on the other end, Pert wasn't faring much better. He'd taken down three, but still had three others taking cheap shots whenever they could against the Plusle. That was their plan all along, Meryl realized. To get me and Pert separated and take us on alone.

Because they were much stronger together.

Meryl's entire objective changed. She had to get over to where Pert was. They had to fight the Sableye side by side with each other or else...

Well, she didn't want to think that far ahead.

Meryl backed up a bit as the Sableye edged closer and closer. Realizing she had the speed advantage at the moment, she decided that Electro Ball was a good attack for right now. She charged it up and fired at the nearest Sableye, who was sent launched back from it. That left two to deal with for the moment. She could handle that.

Before they could even register what happened, Meryl was moving. Climbing the tree behind her, she started leaping from branch to branch, working her way towards Pert who was taking more hits from the Sableye that surrounded him. Meanwhile, the ones that were after her were chasing from below. Hold on there, buddy...I'm coming!

Elder slowly shook his head at the mention of each missing pokemon. “Sorry, buddy. I haven’t seen any of those on this island
 Although-”

There was a blast of icy, displaced air fuming from the hole. The Operative had already tied the completed rope with a solid knot on the thick, strong branch, and crawled out of the way of the blast of cold air. This blast was soon followed by a series of a glass-like plinking, slightly swishing noise. Someone down there was carving ice.

—

Rage worked with his powerful claws to carve steps into a pillar of ice Crystal was forming all the way to the hole entrance. As each step was completed, Radegast took a step, holding tight onto the Operative's rope as a sort of safety net.

The Mankey was the first to pop out of the hole once more, followed by the human and the Seel. In the brighter light of the forest, Radegast looked a lot worse than he felt. Blood had trickled and dried from an injury on his head. The band he used to die his deadlocks into a ponytail had snapped upon landing, leaving his hair to cascade wildly down the back of his head- held in place out of his eyes by his dusty hat. He looked haunting, if not for the fact that his smile was genuine.

“Sup, I’m Radegast,” The Lord-Regent grinned as he wiped the excess silk strands from his hand so he could extend it to shake with the other two, “Thanks for helping my friends.”

Ever the curious one, Elder was partially tempted to ask Dobro to elaborate on why they wouldn’t want to enter the city. The Ghastly glanced at Radegast, who seemed blissfully unaware of the injuries inflicted upon him. Elder rose up to eye level with the human and prodded the side of his head with a malformed hand.

“Yeah yeah, I gotta get that looked at,” Radegast chuckled, “But first, we gotta check out that cave down there. Lots of tunnels Really cool markings down there, I bet there’s treasure down there!”

“Dude,” Suros chimed in, “Your arm’s in a sling.”

“You should seek medical attention, sir!” Operative added.

Radegast glanced to the lazing Fletchling, then to the Joltik still up in a branch. The human then turned his gaze to his left arm- partially covered by the sling he made out of his hoodie. “Ah, this is nothing,” Radegast shook his head as he pat his re-located shoulder with his good hand. He winced slightly. “I set it back in properly. Just needs to heal up, a little physical thera-“

Elder prodded Radegast’s head again, this time closer to the wound hidden under his dreadlocks. The human winced, and reached up with his good hand. He felt the red liquid slowly trickling down. “Oh, blood. Hm
don’t wanna get an infection there,” Radegast hummed, “Alright, fair enough. Let’s head back to town.”

The human waited as Suros climbed back onto the human’s shoulder- the good shoulder. The Operative hopped down from the branch onto Radegast’s hat. As the human began to walk off, with Crystal and Rage on either side, Elder glanced at the hole in the ground and turned his gaze back to the Dobro and Domingo.

“If these friends of yours passed through here, and that gang was still active when we arrived, would the gang have captured them somehow?” The ghastly asked, “Or fallen in a hole like this one?”

Team One: Dobro and Domingo

Domingo watched Radegast curiously as he tried to convince his Pokemon he was alright. His appearance betrayed him. Elder pointed that out and was the first to take advantage of it, showing him that he was bleeding. That ended up being the game changer for Radegast.

“Alright, fair enough. Let’s head back to town.”

Wow... Domingo thought, What a tough scrapper...

Suros took his perch on the human's shoulder, the Operative on his hat. Crystal and Rage couldn't exactly perch anywhere, so they walked alongside. Domingo and Dobro waved goodbye to their new friends, wishing them well on their journey back and hoping they see them again. Only Elder remained.

“If these friends of yours passed through here, and that gang was still active when we arrived, would the gang have captured them somehow? Or fallen in a hole like this one?”

Domingo hadn't thought of that. But there was a good reason why he hadn't and that was because he subconsciously knew the answer. "Not a chance. They're too sneaky for that...much more sneaky than we are. They could be watching us right now and we'd probably never know about it. I'd place my bet on them not yet meeting this gang." Domingo looked back towards the direction of the clearing. "Although given the noise we just made, I'm sure they'll show up or something."

A sudden gust of wind filtered through the forest, unnatural and alive. Dobro's fur went a little wacky, the clear sign that electricity accompanied this air. It practically radiated with the wind, giving the air a thicker feeling...a charged feeling. Both Domingo and Dobro looked back towards the swamp, thinking the exact same thing.

"Was that Pert and Meryl?" Dobro was the first to comment.

"Most likely, given the circumstances," Domingo replied, his voice showing concern. "Do you think they found Team RedEye?"

"No, they wouldn't attack," Dobro reasoned. "Unless Pounce or Gova attacked first...or Zane."

The name itself sent a shudder down Domingo's typically hard spine. It was enough to stir fear into anyone. Either way, one thing was for sure. They had to head back to the swamp and provide support if they needed it.

Domingo turned back to the Ghastly. "I'm sure you felt that. That was more of our friends. We need to go help them. Hope to see you guys again!"

And with that, plus a Dobro wave of goodbye, the two started running through the forest, trying to make their way to the swamp. The best way was through the mountains, through home base.

Elder did indeed feel an odd "aura" washing over him, like some sort of electrical blanket charging molecules within the atmosphere. It granted the air an almost crackly quality to it. He silently listened to their conversation, absorbing every detail as if it were second-nature
which it was, given Elder’s personality

“I’m sure you felt that. That was more of our friends. We need to go help them. Hope to see you guys again!”

“If the Lord-Regent wasn’t injured, I’d be all about returning the favour,” Elder replied, “But that’s what my team does, we stick together
or try to, anyway” The ghastly laughed. “Anyway, peace out!”

Elder turned in the opposite direction from Dobro and Domingo and sped up his flight to catch up with the rest.

“Yo Elder, I didn’t expect you to be the type to lag behind,” Radegast joked as he reached into a pouch on his belt. Initially hidden from sight by his hoodie, the pouch was positioned next to the left-most pokeball. From the pouch, Radegast produced a small compass. He checked it to see that he was heading west- towards the academy once more.

Suddenly the compass began to spin into weird directions. With a sudden, serious tone, he asked, “There’s a charge in the air
 Electric-types close by
”

“A THOUSAND LIGHTNING BOLTS CANNOT STEM THE FLOW OF A RAGING RIVER!” Rage blasted from his face-hole.

“I hear ya, buddy,” Radegast smiled as his eyes turned upward. “Operative, what do you think?”

“The charge is emitting from the direction opposite the way we’re going,” Operative replied.

Crystal relayed that by pointing a fin in that very direction- behind them.

“Oh good, that means we won’t run into them,” Radegast replied. “Elder, since you can’t fall into holes, could you take point?”

Asking was useless, as Crystal would point out by saying “Elder always takes point, Radegast.” The Ghastly was already a good foot in front, checking the ground for any signs of a trap- either human-made or pokemon-made.

Eventually, and without incident, the group breached the forest borders, right between the outskirts of the town and the academy slightly farther ahead.

“Radical!” Radegast exclaimed as he picked up the pace of his limp towards town, “I remember seeing a hospital close to the town centre.”

Entering the town garnered no concerned looks whatsoever. In this world, an injured trainer is about as natural as a woodland rodent emitting an electrical charge capable of causing such injuries in the first place. A local peace officer was quick to recommend the closest hospital
which was indeed near the town centre.

Radegast left the hospital later, cleaned up, and properly bandaged. His blue hoodie was back on, and his arm was in a real sling. His dreadlocks were once more tied back into a ponytail. Suros remained on his good shoulder, and Elder hovered by his side, but everyone else decided to rest in the pokeballs on the human’s belt.

“Ain’t medical science amazing?” Radegast asked, “Gonna make a full recovery faster than I thought. Turns out we do make potions for humans.”

“I imagine they feel as pleasant as ordinary potions,” Elder quipped.

“At least it ain’t those awful herbs we tried at that volcano town,” Suros added. This was fitting, for they just passed by an odd spices shop that smelled dreadfully strong with many aromas. Perhaps it didn’t help that a male Rosilia winked at Suros, causing the Fletchling to squirm in discomfort.

Radegast laughed. “I guess opposites attract in more ways than one, eh Suros?”

Suros glared at Radegast with a piercing eye, but relaxed soon enough.

“Anyway, I still need the cast so it takes time to heal, though,” Radegast hummed, “Still, I don’t think it would be under any real threat in that cave we found. Whaddya say, guys? Wanna loot a cave?”

“Personally,” Elder said, “I think we need a sixth wheel, one that can cover the bases we alone are unable to. Who knows what’d be in that cavern.” The ghastly prodded the sixth pokeball on Radegast’s belt- which has always been empty, nor has it ever been removed from the human’s belt.

“I’m not gonna force anything, Elder,” Radegast replied, “If someone wants to join our crew, it’s their choice.”

“Of course,” Elder chimed, “But we are still lacking in a very important combat role for the squadron.”

“In the meantime,” Radegast continued, “Where was that cavern?”

“Man, I just feel like chilling out. We just had a fight, you know,” Suros chirped as she ruffled her feathers in annoyance.

“Though we did get refreshed from the hospital visit, and ignoring Suros’ constant laziness
maybe a break is in order, Lord-Regent.” Elder added as he prodded the tough exterior for the cast, “For your sake, at least.”

Radegast smirked, “I’m lucky to have you guys as friends.” His eyelids flattened a little in relaxation, “Very well, I guess we can return to the Academy, watch some people fight
or whatever it is they do in that weird turn format
”

The trio trekked through the rest of town, headed towards the academy.

Radegast sauntered lazily into the academy grounds once more, with Suros on his shoulder and Elder at his side. His bandaged head would’ve been very noticeable if not for the full-blown cast he wore. He got a few odd looks from other, younger students. The teenager didn’t really notice. He was on the lookout for whatever battles were happening today. He saw that one red-head, Seraphine, with her Cinder. The human also saw that one trainer who beat that one guy with all the legendary pokemon. He would've gone to greet them once more.

But then Elder’s gas began to pulse at an almost dangerous level. Most nearby students backed away. “Hmm?” Radegast hummed as he turned to face the thing the students were staring at. Elder seemed in pain, but emitted no sound. “Shit, about time too, buddy.” Radegast laughed, “How’re the growth pains?”

“Up yours, Lord-Regent,” The Ghastly managed to return a chuckle in between sharp jabs before being engulfed in an unusual white light. The source seemed to expand like a soufflĂ©.

“Dude, that fight must’ve brought you very close to the brink and stuff,” Suros said lazily, “Looks nasty. Good thing I'm never gonna evolve."

“Didja want me to stop it like I did with Crystal?” Radegast asked.

“Nah
I've been... a Ghastly long... enough... this form
 needs
 real hands
”

Radegast’s gaze turned to the Fletchling on his shoulder. Suros pecked Radegast’s neck twice to signify “no”. “A’ight, buddy. I'll just be over on the bleachers,” Radegast winked as he glanced to a nearby bleacher at the edge of the arenas. Other students were staring at this odd visitor and the cast and bandages he wore.

The light eventually faded. The Ghastly was now a Haunter, with equally intense and critical eyes. The orb with surrounding gas had shifted into a more solid-looking head with spines. The condensed gas used as malformed hands had solidified into true, decently formed claws. Elder clamped both hands over his face and sighed in pure joy. “By the deities I NEEDED THIS SHIT!” The excited Haunter pumped both fists into the air as he hovered over to join Radegast. “YO! Lord-Regent, this is EXCELLENT!”

Radegast held up a fist. “Put’er there, dude!”

Elder pounded the human’s fist with his own. “YES! THIS IS EXACTLY IT! Rage, get out here! I gotta bump fists with you!

The Mankey automatically popped out of his own pokeball without Radegast’s influence. “FRIEND ELDER! YOU HAVE EVOLVED! IT IS A DAY FOR REVELRY BETWEEN BLOODSHED!”

Elder and Rage bumped fists. Though Rage looked as pissed-off as ever, he was actually quite happy for his friend. Crystal and the Operative also popped out of their pokeballs and admired Elder’s new development in their own way. Crystal clapped her fins together while the Operative hopped onto and crawled all over the Haunter’s body.

Radegast leaned back in the bench and watched some random trainers duelling each other. Eventually Suros hopped off and interacted with the other four members of the group. They were chirping and barking their own exclamations of congratulations. He was not exactly watching how the fights were done. Rather, his mind drifted to the time he met Elder- his first friend.

— Three years ago —

Bitten
 beaten
left to dissolve in the shade of a raining forest. Pathways covered in wet, slippery clay covered most of the ground that was not covered by thick trees. The Dark-types that had done this left the wounded Ghastly out of some sadistic whim
or maybe they had a higher authority that would punish them if they were out in the rain like this. Regardless of the reasons, the attackers who left the poor ghost in this state did not remain to finish the job.

The Ghastly opened one eye- the other had been punctured by a set of bite marks. It would easily heal for a ghost-type, but for now the other eye was useless. The eye opened because the ghastly heard something. It heard splashing. Something larger than the Ghastly slipped and fell into a puddle of water held above ground by a long slab of slick clay and mud. There was laughter. This was no pokemon’s laughter. The Ghastly had always feared being captured by a human. Enslaved, locked away, with no freedom to speak of. This human’s wet footsteps clearly indicated that he was approaching, even with the delays of slipping and falling. The poor Ghastly could do naught to stop this human from approaching.

“Dude! You alright there, buddy?” The human suddenly noticed the wounded ghost, and approached just outside of the Ghastly’s peripheral vision.

The Ghastly expected a pokeball. It was a perfect opportunity. The Ghastly even heard a rummaging sound, the same sound a human would make if they searched their bags for a pokeball. The Ghastly had heard that sound dozens of times, watching friends and neighbours within the forest be captured and taken away from this place, never to be seen again. The Ghastly closed it’s eye, painfully aware of the futility. It waited patiently for the feeling of one of those spheres slapping it in the face. There was no slap of metal on ectoplasm. Instead, there was a spraying sound. The pain suddenly subsided. “Good thing potions were on sale, or I wouldn’t have bought some today,” the human chuckled. This spray the human used, it closed up wounds in the blink of an eye. The ghost was filled with a feeling of rejuvenation.

The Ghastly opened both eyes- the other one was perfectly healed once more. It billowed a natural amount of gas and began to hover in place. It turned to look at the human, but the human was no longer there. The Ghastly spun around, and found the human walking and slipping down the opposite path. The human stopped by, used a potion, and thanklessly continued onward. What struck the Ghastly as truly unusual, besides the actions the human just took, was that this human had a belt designed to hold pokeballs- a trainer’s belt, exposed from underneath a dark green hoodie. From this angle, it was clear that the human had no pokeballs whatsoever. This human was alone in the wild. This ten-year-old boy had no pokemon whatsoever.

The Ghastly kept to the shadows, curious about this clearly vulnerable human boy. It eyed the back of the boy’s short dreadlocks with a critical gaze. “What is up with this human
?”

The human did not look back. It only kept it’s eyes forward
at least, forward as often as he could with all the slipping and falling on the soft mud and clay path through the forest. “Man, I did not pick a good day to travel,” the human quipped more to himself than anyone else. The Ghastly moved forward quickly, and hid among the trees as he approached the trainer’s side. The Ghastly wanted to get a good look at this human’s face. The human’s eyes were completely relaxed, entirely the opposite of what the Ghastly expected for a trainer who had no pokemon. Even the ghost knew that humans were relatively weak compared to the awesome powers of pokemon; that was why they enslaved and controlled.

Suddenly there was barking beyond the trees- familiar barking. “Fresh meat! Fresh meat!”

The Ghastly watched from the shadows as the pack of Houndours burst from the opposite side and blocked the path the human was walking. The human stopped, and removed a hand from the pocket of his hoodie. “Sup?” The human greeted.

The Houndours did not respond. They only waited until a much larger figure jumped out of the forest to flank the human. The human turned to see a Houndoom.

“Pleasure to meet you, I’m Radegast,” the human greeted as he extended a hand to shake.

The Houndoom’s eyes were filled with bloodlust. They formed a sharper juxtaposition to the human’s relaxed set of eyes.

“Fresh meat!” A Houndour barked.

The Houndoom seemed hesitant to attack. “Why is it so relaxed?” The Houndoom growled.

Radegast, seemingly aware that the large dog wouldn’t shake, retracted his hand and returned it to his pocket. “Anyway, I’m just passing through. Thought I’d have made it to the next town before this storm hit, but hey. You win some and you lose some.” He glanced up to the sky.

“Why is it so relaxed?” The Houndoom repeated. The Ghastly noted that these dark dogs were not used to a potential quarry feeling no panic whatsoever.

“Is it
not intimidated by us?” One Houndour asked.

“We do not threaten this human?” The Houndoom questioned, “A species that has captured many of our pack? Weaken our pack to these numbers?”

“It’s
insulting us! It must be!” Another Houndour barked.

Radegast remained seemingly uninterested. From the ghastly’s angle, it could tell that the human was actually seriously pondering his next move. The eyes held an intensity that indicated deep, rapid thought. Radegast did not dare show the dark dogs this moment of apparent panic. “You know, there was a Ghastly back down the path,” Radegast commented as his gaze relaxed once more, “Lotta bite marks
Kinda match the shapes of your jaws,” He pointed at the Houndours at the front of the path. “Why didn’t you finish the job?”

The Houndours’ eyes collectively widened- if only so slightly. Their eyes met Radegast’s, and the the Houndoom’s. The Houndoom glared at the rest of the pack. “You left a quarry?” The Houndoom growled.

“You howled for us, sir!” One Houndour explained rapidly, “You howled that it was urgent!”

The Ghastly only knew two moves, and only one of them would be perfect to use now, while the pack was woefully unaware. As the Ghastly flew between the branches, the human seemed to understand the intentions completely. With a hand shooting up to the brim of his cap, Radegast covered his eyes with said hat. The Ghastly emitted a blinding, sinister light, one that covered the entire area. The sudden movement made every single dark dog divert their gaze to this newcomer, and every one of them was vulnerable, and caught by this light. The dogs’ visions blurred. The human became the dogs, and the dogs became the human. Around the edges of their eyes, everything seemed to warp and wobble. “Come on!” The Ghastly shouted at the human. Radegast did not need telling twice. He vaulted over a confused Houndour tackling another confused Houndour. The Ghastly billowed an immense amount of purple smoke in the area, engulfing the pack in a thick, poisonous gas, and followed. The human slipped, but somehow managed to remain upright despite the increased pace. “Yo, that was a sick move, dude!” The human laughed after a good minute of running. Far behind the two of them, growls, barks, and pained whines trailed behind them.

“Stop, everyone!” The Houndoom shouted above the rest. The group was then silent, save for an astonishing amount of choking.

“Ah shit,” Radegast muttered, “I hope they recover from that
”

“They’re a well-organized pack, their turf has an abundance of berries and medicinal herbs,” The Ghastly assured.

“Potions were on sale too. I wouldn’t have minded helping them out.”

The Ghastly faced the human with utter shock, “They were planning to attack you!” The Ghastly sputtered, “They would have killed you- they nearly killed me!”

“Hey, what did I say?” The human asked innocently. The Ghastly then remembered that humans didn’t understand Pokespeak.

The Ghastly sighed, “You’re an odd human, you know that?”

“To each their own,” Radegast replied.

Was that
an actual response? Did this human
? No, it couldn’t possibly know Pokespeak
Did it register body language? Was it just a lucky guess?

“Anyway, thanks for the help. I guess we’re even now, eh?” Radegast laughed as he turned to continue down the path.

“Hang on,” The Ghastly said. Radegast halted. The Ghastly approached and nudged the human’s belt. “You have no pokemon, do you?”

“What about my belt?”

“Every human needs a pokemon.”

Radegast seemed to understand the matter-of-factly tone. “I don’t need a pokemon.” The Ghastly’s eyes widened. Radegast smiled, glad that he managed to guess what was being said. “I just need friends.”

Cinder shook her head and said, "Sorry I haven't seen either of those pokemon, unless they were captured by a trainer, and by the sounds of it they wouldn't be." Crimson looked really disappointed. She felt really bad. "But hey, maybe we can help! You helped me when your friend captured me, maybe we can help you now! I mean, I'm still Seraphine's only pokemon, but maybe Touko can help too."

"Look, guys, I don't wanna interrupt anything, but there are people trying to learn in here," Touko sighed, gesturing to the closed doors. "Perhaps we could discuss this outside?"

Cinder looked around at the other students giving them a wide berth and generally being suspicious. "Well, what do you think Crimson? Want some help?"
______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Seraphine watched as Crimson also pointed to a greninja on the water chart. Seraphine walked over to inspect the water chart, not only to get a closer look at the greninja, but to see what that jellyfish pokemon that Touko had was. She found out it was called Jellicent. Now she knew for next time. "Sorry bud, haven't seen those pokemon around here. But I'm sure me and Cinder could help look for them. I'm sure you could use two extra pairs of eyes."

"Look, guys, I don't wanna interrupt anything, but there are people trying to learn in here," Touko sighed, gesturing to the closed doors. "Perhaps we could discuss this outside?"

Seraphine looked around. "That's probably a good idea. Come on Cinder, we can talk to Crimson outside, and if he wants help, we'll follow him." She started walking to the doors of the building. She would have to talk to Touko later. Maybe along the way she could catch some pokemon. She would have to go into town to get berries and pokeballs though.

"...maybe we can help! You helped me when your friend captured me, maybe we can help you now! I mean, I'm still Seraphine's only pokemon, but maybe Touko can help too," said Cinder cheerfully.

"I'm sure you could use two extra pairs of eyes," Seraphine added.

Crimson appreciated their wanting to help. He really did. And they were right, of course. Four more eyes out there searching was worth it, even if they came up empty. But...

"I really appreciate your offer," Crimson said, walking towards the exit at Touko's request, "But, what about your lives here? You both need to start learning! Seraphine needs to learn how to be a Pokemon Trainer while you need to learn how to be a great Pokemon fighter. I feel like if I let you help me, it would impede on that. I mean, I do have seven sets of eyes already looking and while nine sets are better, it wouldn't be fair of me to drag you two away from the Pokemon Academy to help me complete my mission. So, unfortunately no. But only for the right reasons." Crimson walked through the double doors, the warmness in the air washing over his body instantly as he stepped outside.

The four had missed the evolution of Radegast's newly formed Haunter, but Crimson perked his ears up as he could hear the commotion of the other Pokemon, specifically the Mankey "Well, it sounds like something went down over there." he casually noted, walking with the other three, seeing if they needed anything. Touko was looking for something in her bag, it seemed like. Curious, he waited to see what she would pull out.

Tag and Sarik had moved from their initial position of laying in the grass to sitting up, antsy to get moving.

"Gah, what's taking Crimson so long?" Tag whined.

"Patience," Sarik reminded him, "He'll be back."

"And if he doesn't? What do we do then?"

Sarik's intelligent eyes gazed across the Academy. "I don't see it as likely. However, in the precaution of Crimson not being able to return for any reason, I say we start planning an infiltration of our own."

Tag shot up like a bolt, "Right. But how do we do it?"

Sarik looked at him, "Well, we just...walk in, I guess."

Tag looked puzzled, "Walk in? Won't that make people suspicious?"

Sarik shrugged, "Possibly. But it's not like we stick out like sore thumbs. At most, they might think "Oh, this Pokemon is without it's owner." or something like that."

Tag's eyes lit up in understanding. "Oh, I see. So we can walk in. Then what?"

"Then, we look for Crimson and see what he's-" Sarik stopped as a sudden light started coming from the Academy. The light looked familiar...he'd seen it before. And then understanding accompanied that familiar feeling as he realized he'd seen it more than once before.

"Hey, that Ghastly's evolving," Sarik pointed to the field, "Good for him."

Tag looked to where Sarik was pointing and watched with him. "You ever think you'd have been happier as a Blastoise?"

Sarik didn't need to think about that one. "No. I feel like I would've become a big muscle Pokemon had I chose to evolve. I like this form better."

Tag nodded. "Yeah, me too. Getting bigger means getting slower and I like being fast."

The two watched as the Ghastly became a Haunter and started clasping his hands together as he got used to his new form.

"Let's go congratulate them!" Tag declared and started running off to their position.

"Tag, wait!" Sarik called after him, "This isn't Mohka!"

But Tag was already too far ahead, running towards the group. Sarik gave chase, but he knew he wouldn't catch him in time. A moment later, Tag was there.

"Hey, congratulations to you guys!" Tag smiled at the Haunter.

Sarik was panting as he caught up, annoyed at Tag's behavior, "Tag, we're not at home where everybody knows everybody." he whispered to him. And then he looked at the five Pokemon, all staring at them. Awkwardly, he explained their position, "I'm sorry. We didn't mean to interrupt you guys. We just follow a tradition where we come from to congratulate any Pokemon who evolves, as it is a glorious achievement. To which I also say, congratulation to you, Haunter." he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, nervously hoping they wouldn't be hostile about it.

“Hey, congratulations to you guys!” came a small, unfamiliar voice.

Elder and the others turned to see a Turtwig standing close by. A Squirtle seemed to be giving chase. The Squirtle caught up, panting as he whispered something to the Turtwig. The Squirtle then spoke to the group. “I’m sorry. We didn’t mean to interrupt you guys. We just follow a tradition where we come from to congratulate any Pokemon who evolves, as it is a glorious achievement. To which I also say, congratulations to you, Haunter.”

“
 Soooo
wait, what are you sorry about?” Suros asked incredulously.

“They’re saying they’re sorry for interrupting us,” Elder replied to the Fletchling.

“How are they interrupting us?” Suros laughed.

“INTERRUPTION IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN WE ENGAGE IN COLLECTIVE CELEBRATION!” Rage shrieked.

“Haha! Well-said, buddy.” Elder returned to the two turtles. “Thanks, you two. It means a lot- having hands, that is. My name’s Elder. These are Suros, Rage, Crystal, and the Operative.”

On the last called name, the Joltik crawled into view on top of the Haunter’s head. “Good to see you have true appendages, sir!” The Operative barked. “Now you’re not useless in a fight!”

Elder’s chuckling stopped immediately. Before the Haunter could swat at his forehead with his new hand, the Joltik hopped off and scurried under the cover of some nearby grass. “I provide support, the same as you, thank you very much,” Elder jabbed playfully.

Radegast, meanwhile, watched as his friends interacted with two newcomers from the nearby bleachers. This event seemed to interest him more than whatever was happening in the arenas. Some younger students silently watched the laid-back trainer in the cast and bandage. They no-doubt wondered what Radegast was there for, or why he had such dressings.

As Seraphine walked outside, she spotted a familiar face. Radegast was sitting on the bleachers of the training field, all his pokemon out of their pokeballs. Something looked different though... First of all there were two more with him, secondly Elder looked... different. She walked over out of curiosity. As she got closer, she realized two of the pokemon were the squirtle and the turtwig from Crimson's crew. And Elder was... A haunter now! She quickened her pace towards the excitement.

"Hey Radegast! Thought you weren't sticking around the island. Congratulations Elder! I like your new form." Then she noticed Radegast's bandages. "What happened? You didn't have those bandages the other day did you?"
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Cinder walked out with Seraphine towards the familiar human and his pokemon. She saw Tag and Sarik along with them too! It would make sense that Crimson wasn't here alone. There was a lot of excitement going on over there. Cinder ran ahead of Seraphine to greet her friends.

"Hey Tag, Sarik!" She greeted. Then she turned to Elder. "Wow! You evolved! That's so cool! And your new form even has hands!" She almost couldn't contain her excitement for her friend but merely extended a claw for a high five. She noticed the bandages and cast on Radegast. "Hey, what happened to your trainer?"

"Oh, hey," Touko smiled awkwardly at Radegast. "Thought I saw you out the corner of my eye the other day during my battle with that fake Grimsley. You seem to be in a good mood...might I ask what happened? I know of a good deep dish pizza place in the student center, and they're not kidding when they call it extra-large."

She grinned and tipped her snap-back cap towards the party. "Hey, Seraphine...what of our fire monkey friend? I kind of wanted to capture him for myself, but I saw the look in your eyes when you saw it. Mine was a more academic interest, but there was some real passion there. Maybe I should catch it for you? Show you how to catch? Let's make this a learning opportunity, hai?"

Now to see what else this Raikou resident knew. Instead of giving a written test, practical expertise was always more valuable. There was no way Cinder could take on Crimson...no way someone of Cinder's caliber would be so bold as to walk the halls of a human establishment. Maybe Radegast would be a match...he had the full team after all. Touko now just had to figure out her next move.

“
 Soooo
wait, what are you sorry about?” asked the Fletchling.

Sarik was thrown off guard, "Uh-"

“They’re saying they’re sorry for interrupting us,” the newly formed Haunter explained.

“How are they interrupting us?” the Fletchling laughed.

Tag turned back to Sarik with a smirk, "See? They didn't mind. Don't be such a worrywart!"

"Well, I wouldn't have to be if Team Justice didn't cause a scene here yesterday," Sarik muttered as Tag turned back to the conversation. Tag knew the Squirtle would've probably acted the same way, regardless of what Dobro and Domingo did here.

"My name’s Elder," the Haunter introduced, "These are Suros, Rage, Crystal, and the Operative.”

Tag laughed at the exchange between Operative and Elder before continuing, "Well, I'm Tag. My shellshocked compadre behind me is Sarik. And our leader Crimson is...somewhere around here." He looked around the area, trying to find their leader. He glanced back to where they were resting to see if the Chimchar had returned, but he hadn't.

"Hey Tag, Sarik!"

An all too familiar voice made Tag's ears perk up as he turned towards the buildings to see the Pokemon they'd encountered yesterday. Cinder, he remembered as he looked behind her to see the brunette, Seraphine, and...

"Speaking of which, there he is right there!" Tag motioned towards the Chimchar as he walked towards them. "Hey, Cinder. How's it going?" he greeted the Charmander as she walked up to them.

Sarik walked immediately over to Crimson, a look of concern on his face. "So you went to get the brunette and Seraphine. Why?"

"Touko's the name of the brunette," Crimson told him. "And it was more like I tried to spy and they discovered me."

Sarik gasped, "Does that mean you're-"

"No, I'm not captured," Sarik breathed a sigh of relief as Crimson went on, "At least not yet anyway. But looking at the situation..." he looked up to see Touko's calculating face, who was talking to Radegast, "They might try."

Sarik nodded determinedly, "Should we help?"

"No, I think I got it," Crimson said, "Besides, I don't want to drag you two down with me in case the worst happens."

Sarik glanced at the three humans, from Seraphine to Touko to Radegast. "Which one are you fighting? All of them?"

Crimson studied the three thoughtfully, "I don't know. Probably not Seraphine, since she doesn't carry that much experience. It'd be between Touko and the boy in the bandages."

Crimson perked his ears up as Touko mentioned him to the redhead, "Hey, Seraphine...what of our fire monkey friend? I kind of wanted to capture him for myself, but I saw the look in your eyes when you saw it. Mine was a more academic interest, but there was some real passion there. Maybe I should catch it for you? Show you how to catch? Let's make this a learning opportunity, hai?"

So his assumptions were correct. They were going to fight him. Crimson watched her glance over to where the bandaged one stood and by reading her face, knew instantly where this was going. "I'll be fighting him and his Pokemon."

"The ones we just met?" Sarik asked incredulously.

Crimson nodded. "Those five." He walked over to the pow-wow of Pokemon.

Tag was going off as to what they were doing there. "We aren't actually natives of the island. We live on a different island called Mohka. We're part of a guild there called the Isle Defenders," Tag reached into his pack and pulled out the badge, a white and pink looking oval with wings on either side and a logo on the front with the letters "ID" engraved in it. "We explore, we help other Pokemon, and we defend our home from evil humans and Pokemon alike. Right now, we're exploring...well this island in fact. But we've come across a snag. You see-"

"Alright, that's a lot to take in for right now," Crimson interrupted. Tag stopped and nodded, putting the badge away. Crimson walked up to Elder, a genuine smile on his face and his hand outstretched to be shook. "Hi, I'm Crimson."

Pert and Domingo continued onward through the swamp. Unlike the last time Pert was here, no one was around to attack them this time. They spotted a couple of Pokemon, a Bellsprout and a Weepinbell, walking along the path. Upon asking them if they'd seen anything weird, they responded with seeing a cluster of Sableye around here recently, but besides that nothing.

After a bit longer, Domingo and Pert reached the edge of the swamp, the sudden change in atmosphere a welcoming feeling to the two Pokemon as they could see the ocean and feel the breeze on their skin.

"Do you see anything?" Domingo asked him, keeping his eyes peeled around him. It was a hard task after seeing so much green before and finally coming across the shade of blue.

Pert also looked, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. He shook his head, disappointed. "No, I don't."

Domingo sighed, "I hate to say it, but there's no other way to go but back."

Pert stomped his foot in frustration, "I know those Sableye weren't just a random Pokemon gang walking around! They had to be here for a reason!"

Domingo agreed, thinking back to the gang they fought in the forest with the bandanas. "Yeah, they don't sound like natives. But we don't have anywhere else to look. It's possible they're smarter than to hang around where the important stuff is. Maybe they're decoys."

Pert was open-minded and didn't doubt the possibility. But something still didn't feel right about the attack. A thought crossed his mind, a thought he was surprised he didn't think about earlier. "Maybe it was an ambush? To get rid of me and Meryl?"

Domingo raised a brow in interest at Pert's proclamation. "You think?"

Pert shrugged, "It's possible. If they weren't guarding anything, why go after us at all?"

Domingo nodded understandingly. "That makes sense. But if that's the case, we should head back and look after Meryl with Dobro. At the same time, we should plan our moves and avoid the swamp until Crimson, Sarik, and Tag return."

Pert nodded, "Right." He took off towards the mountains, eager to get back to his sister. Domingo trotted after him, giving once glance back towards the ocean before disappearing among the murky green of the swamp.

Radegast was flicking at the brim of his cap as he sat on the bleachers. With glazed eyes, the human seemed to perform only that simple function. He only snapped out of that odd trance when he heard someone call his name. It was Seraphine, greeting him and congratulating Elder. “What happened, You didn’t have those bandages the other day did you?”

“Nope!” Radegast replied with a grin.

Another girl- an older one at that- greeted Radegast as well. “You seem to be a good mood
might I ask what happened?” I know of a good eep dish pizza place in the student center, and they’re not kidding when they call it extra-large.”

“No big deal, I just went into the forest. Fell in a cave, dislocated my shoulder, gashed my head, then Elder just evolved. You know, typical stuff. I wish we could’ve checked the cave, but my buddies
” Something clicked in Radegast’s mind, and he suddenly chuckled. “Dude wait
pizza? Are you asking me out to pizza or something? I think I’m outta your league, dude.” After a pause to gauge her reaction, Radegast continued, “Nah I’m kidding. Deep-dish or thin-crust, Pizza’s great. Yo Elder, whatcha think of pizza?” The human turned his gaze down the bleachers to the pokemon forming up around the base.

—

Elder's jagged smile broadened at the continued congratulations from others. His grin was at his widest when he high-fived the Charmander, Cinder. “Appreciate it, squirt. How’s that tail-whipping going?”

“Hey, what happened to your trainer?” Cinder asked.

“Oh, nothing special. He fell in a cave, dislocated his shoulder, gashed his head,” Elder replied, “You know, typical stuff.”

“Yo Elder, whatcha think of pizza?” Radegast focused his attention on the gathering pokemon down below the bleachers.

Elder pumped a fist into the air. “As long as you’re buying, buddy!”

“No big deal, I just went into the forest. Fell in a cave, dislocated my shoulder, gashed my head, then Elder just evolved. You know, typical stuff. I wish we could’ve checked the cave, but my buddies
”

Seraphine couldn't tell if he was joking or not. She laughed anyway. "Well as long as you're ok."

She turned to Touko with wide eyes. Her eyes were wide with amazement that Touko would do that for her, and also with some surprise. Touko knew that the chimchar was the leader of the pokemon they met yesterday right? It wouldn't be fair to capture him. Plus she doubted Cinder could really take them. Then she realized Touko was trying to get Radegast to fight.

"Yeah, chimchars are awesome! I've never seen a fire monkey before! As much as I'd love a chimchar though, I don't think that's a good idea. This one seems to have a team already. Besides, I don't want to force a pokemon to come with me if they don't want to. Pizza sounds good though, what do you think Cinder?" She looked at her charmander, who seemed to have focused her attention on the chimchar after Touko's statement.

Cinder ran over, arms outstretched. She picked her up, careful not to let the flame on Cinder's tail catch her clothes.

"You're a tad bit heavier now than when you hatched," Seraphine chided, and put Cinder back down.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________

"I'm doing pretty good! Look, I've learned a new move! Elder here helped." She demonstrated her tail whip with pride. Her eyes got wide when Elder said what happened.

"Whoa! That's typical? Your life must be really exciting then." Just then, she noticed Crimson, Tag, and Sarik huddled off to the side. They were whispering and looking at the humans.

"Hey, Seraphine...what of our fire monkey friend? I kind of wanted to capture him for myself, but I saw the look in your eyes when you saw it."

Oh no, she was tempting Seraphine with a fire pokemon. She couldn't let Crimson get captured, though, even by her trainer. Crimson had lots of important work to do on the island.

"Crimson! They're trying to get Seraphine to capture you!" Cinder exclaimed as she ran over. But from their looks when she interrupted, that was what they were in the middle of discussing.

"Oh, sorry to interrupt. I guess you've got it covered though, by the looks of it!"

"Yeah, chimchars are awesome! I've never seen a fire monkey before! As much as I'd love a chimchar though, I don't think that's a good idea. This one seems to have a team already. Besides, I don't want to force a pokemon to come with me if they don't want to. Pizza sounds good though, what do you think Cinder?"

Aww yeah pizza. Such cheesy, saucy, meaty goodness. "Heck yeah I'll take some!" She ran back to her trainer and stretched out her arms so that Seraphine could pick her up.

  1. Jodan desu yo = You're joking, used in this sense to mean "are you kidding me" at Touko's lack of cash.

    by LawOfTheLand

"Okay. So we're all in agreement?" Touko groaned as she looked up her balance. Payday wasn't until next week. Damn it.

"Jodan desu yo," she grumbled as she snapped the wallet shut. "No pizza parlor. At least not on my dime. There is, however, a local specialty that humans and Pokémon alike are sure to love. I've even heard Shirona is mildly addicted to them...Castelia Cones. It's all the way over on the main land, so we'll need to grab a ferry. I'm supposed to be having office hours right now, though...you guys decide what you want and who's paying."

The cones were just an excuse to see what the heck was going on over there...it did look a little suspicious, and after the last incident where Cinder was kidnapped, gotta nip it in the bud. As a helper to the others, she quickly sketched out a pizza slice and an ice cream cone on a sheet of paper before handing it to Seraphine. "Use that to find out what they want. As for you, good sir..." Here she turned back towards Radegast. "You and your Pokémon get along great. There's a lot more good times ahead, I'm sure...so how about a battle? I think Mankey evolves when it gets stronger, as well...though we might want to check on your shoulder first."

Radegast stood up and made his way down the bleachers. He heard talk about whoever’s paying, so he immediately said “Yo, Pizza or ice cream, it don’t matter- cuz it’s on me! Like Elder said.” Radegast checked his pockets to produce his wallet. He paused, and wore a neutral expression. “That is what you said, right?”

Elder nodded.

“Good," Radegast huffed, "I don’t even know Pokespeak, dude.”

“
so how about a battle?” She asked.

“Jeez, I was just joking on the “hitting on me” thing,” Radegast retorted, “Don’t need to turn it literal, amirite?” Still
A battle? As in a trainer battle? Radegast wasn’t sure how to respond to that. Despite his age, he had never been in even a half-assed trainer battle. Despite the adventures and combat his friends had witnessed, the human himself never gave them a single command as a full-fledged trainer. The pokemon usually operated on their own, or per Elder’s impeccable advice, so there was really no point for Radegast to get involved. Plus this girl looked to have two or three years on Radegast, give or take. Frankly, the boy wasn’t really sure anymore, what with the difference in growth spurts between trainers.

One look at Rage, however, made Radegast forget that anxiety. He could’ve sworn that the Mankey was emitting pulses of heat waves. “A BATTLE! A CHALLENGE TO PHYSICAL COMBAT! YOU WILL REGRET THE DAY YOU CROSSED BLADES WITH THE THOUSAND GREATEST EVILS WHO HAVE EVER EXISTED WITHIN A SINGLE FORM!”

“You do remember you lost to Suros, right?” Radegast jabbed playfully before laughing. He crouched down to scratch behind the Mankey’s ears.

“ONE TIME!” Rage bellowed savagely as he pounded his chest, “AND A LITTLE TO THE LEFT! IT IS STILL HISTORY AS ANCIENT AS MY INFERNO OF A SOUL! SING UNTO ME MY KINGDOM OF TORTURE!” Rage glared at the Fletchling, who had decided to roost on the grass because standing up was tiresome. “BUT KNOW THAT I STILL CRAVE REVENGE ONE DAY! I KNOW HOW TO DESTROY FLYING-TYPES NOW!”

“Yeah yeah, whatever dude,” Suros returned, “Look can we get pizza already?”

“NNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH- YES! PIZZA! OF COURSE! A WARRIOR’S APPETITE CANNOT BE SATIATED BY A LACK OF PIZZA! FRIEND-RADEGAST! WE SHALL CONQUER THIS RECOMMENDED LOCATION OF PIZZA LIKE BLOOD BROTHERS HUNTING AND DIVIDING A MIGHTY QUARRY!! ALSO YOU’RE TOTALLY FORKING OVER THE CURRENCY FOR SUSTENANCE!” Rage began to stomp off, bellowing war chants in an unknown (probably made-up) language, akin to ancient tribal servants of long-dead deities. Everyone else treated this behaviour as perfectly normal.

Radegast burst out laughing once more. He even gripped his left arm to prevent it from moving too much. “Ooh! Ah! Almost stretched! Almost stretched. Ah
Anyway,” Radegast stood once more and faced the brown-haired girl, “It’s all good, miss. I already got it relocated. Doctors gave me a real sling and everything. No need to worry about this guy.” The human lightly pet his shoulder. “Still, I’m not one for battles, but Rage is always down for a fight. Heck, just about all of ‘em got into a brawl when I fell in the cave.” Radegast laughed once more as he turned to the other pokemon. “Yo, you guys gotta tell me how that fight went.”

“You wouldn’t understand Pokespeak,” Crystal replied matter-of-factly.

“Oh don’t be a wet towel, Crystal
” Radegast chimed, “Well then again, you are a water type.”

Suros squeaked with laughter at that bit. Even Crystal’s face betrayed a smirk.

“SIR!” The Joltik chirped over everyone, “We should not conduct in intense physical activity directly after eating!”

“Alright, alright,” Radegast chuckled as he rose one hand (obviously, his good one) to shush everyone up. “My friends are down for a fight, before we eat, I mean... but
” Radegast moved a little closer to whisper. For a split-second, his eyes held an unusual, almost alien intensity. His friends did not see it, for if they did, all five pokemon would've collectively acquired a very unusual sense of alertness. “My friends are not exactly
orthodox...” Fully relaxed once more, Radegast grinned and said, "Shouldn't be a problem, though. Between Elder and Crystal, I'm sure they'll learn this format quickly."
