Mistborn were created when Rashek condensed the power of Preservation into the metal Larasium which he and a few of his closest friends and allies ingested, granting them Allomantic powers.

Description

ImageAllomancy
Allomancers have the ability to "burn" (or use) metals, in order to fuel a variety of physical and mental enhancements and abilities. For an additional burst of power, they may flare, or burn their metal especially quickly, consuming it at an accelerated rate, but gaining greater benefits in return.History
It is speculated that during the time of Alendi, Allomancy was in its infancy. There were no known Mistborns, and Alendi was one of the few Mistings in existence. When Rashek took the power of the Well of Ascension however, he condensed some of its energy into the metal Larasium which when ingested allowed him and several of his closest friends and allies to become Mistborn. The subsequent generations of these people were also Mistborn, and Allomancy slowly spread.

However, in time, Allomancers became less potent. People were no longer born capable of Allomancy, but had to be "snapped" into realizing their power. Usually this happened via an extremely traumatic event. Because of this, nobles developed a tradition of beating their children nearly to death in order to check for this ability. Also, Mistings who only had access to one Allomantic ability started being born. Even Mistborn were no longer as powerful as their ancestors.

Three hundred years after the rise of Harmony, Allomancy has diluted to the point where Mistborn no longer exist. However, Mistings are more common. A few Mistings are also capable of using one Feruchemical ability, these people are called Twinborn.

So begins...

"Sir, I understand it's normal to feel stressed when one has the responsibility that you do but I can't help but feel as though there's something more to be read from this than simple worry."

Cain shrugged; a man only a few years into adulthood who had chosen to stand up for what he thought was right. He turned to the Officer who was speaking to him and gave a nod, before explaining, "I don't really want to be here, if I'm perfectly honest. Leading is not something I feel comfortable doing, but at the time no-one else was doing anything so what choice did I have?"

They were walking through a car-park towards a large, industrial warehouse that had been militarized and turned into a fortified complex. Armed, non-uniformed men were everywhere; so were civilians. The civilians who were STILL going to them... More arriving by day, though luckily the height of traffic had far since passed. The problem was that when he went on the news and promised to protect them, he didn't realize it would be so difficult or that so many would decide to take him up on his offer. As a result, what had once been a series of warehouses and carparks was now a large evacuation camp for those who never made it to the bunker on time.

The men had stopped talking as they approached the storage doors of the warehouse itself and made their way inside to a command and logistics centre of volunteers and donated equipment.

Almost immediately, Cain noticed a familiar face over one of the desks. "Good evening, Einar," he greeted as he approached him. "I think it's time I had a status report. I need to know what's going on in the world beyond the small part of it we see here."

There was a commotion at the door. Men were shouting in alarm. A sound like a woman's cry could be heard through the walls.

And then it fell quiet.

Moments later three men entered into the command. The one who seemed to be leading them approached Cain.

"Excuse me sir, but there was a breech in security," he said, nervously. He glanced behind himself and motioned towards the limp woman being held by her upper arms by the other two men.

Her greasy hair hid her facial features in a sheath. She would have been staring at the floor if the woman had been any way conscious. He limbs were thin and scrawny. Her clothes were dull and torn. A foul odor permeated from the unknown woman as if she had not bathed in days.

She moved. The "leader" pistol whipped her again, deepening her unconsciousness. The other two men dropped her to the floor and awaited orders.

"... Stop hitting her," Cain ordered with a harshness to his tone. "We protect the people, we don't harm them. At least not without due cause, and no matter what she did to earn the wrath of you and your men, I will not have you literally beat someone who is already down."

Cain sighed. How many of his men were like that? It wouldn't take long for him to lose ALL popular support if that was how they behaved. Should he set up some sort of policy system and harshly enforce it?

"I apologize about this, Einar, I'll return in a moment."

"Now tell me what this is all about."

"She was caught, uh ..."

"Just tell him!", one of the others urged.

"Right ..." he continued. "She was found ... floating over our defenses around our perimeter. We attempted to take her into custody but she fought back." The man cleared his throat, his tale complete.

"Well at least you didn't shoot her down, I guess," Cain answered with a sigh. "Look... I don't know what you expect me to do? Kick her out if she's a problem? If not, give her a bed, some food and some water and put her with the other refugees. There's really nothing else we can do."

Of course, his mind would not deal with the matter as simply as his voice. His inner-self span the tale he had just heard, the woman he was experiencing before him, around his head a thousand times to try and ascertain if she truly was a threat and if so, what he could do about it.

"B-But sir! She could be a spy!" the man urged Cain. The two others looked down at Loretti, uncertain and ready to shoot at a single flinch.

There was hesitation before the lieutenant asked Cain, "What are your orders sir? Should we hold her captive or ... we should at least question her. If she was a refugee, why did she break into the post?" It was a good question and reasonable.

"I can think of several good reasons as to why she would do such a thing without hostile intent, but because you knocked her unconscious I can't ask her myself if it was hostile intent, can I? Just... Leave her here. Sit her in a chair and I'll deal with it when she wakes up. For now, I have something to discuss with Einar here."

He returned to the waiting man and sat down on the opposite side of the desk. "I apologize about that. So, is there anything you can tell me about the general state of affairs?"

Einar Falls returned to his seat. “A lot. Where to start then?”, he said. “Let us start at the beginning then.” He took the tablet that he had presented to Cain when they had initially meet, sitting it on the table in front of him. “EGO. Present shared file: John Rosenthal 001245.” The tablet responded with a female’s voice. “Requesting permission.” There was a slight delay before the tablet continued on. “Permission granted.”

The tablet lit up to display a scene from John Rosenthal’s point of view wherein he was speaking to Jessica Rohnfeld of UCON and Fleet Admiral Rye Apis. “UCON delegation arrived a few arns ago.”, John whispered to Rye as he sat in the seat next the man who’s point of view the recording device seemed to follow.

Rye spoke then. "I am Fleet Admiral Apis. The Aschen know of us and there is no love between us.”, the Admiral then turned back to John. “Have you briefed them on our capabilities or...”, Rye paused and then continued on. "... you have to understand that we are not interested in assisting forces, governments, or other organizations that intend to set up a dictatorship or subjugate the local population. Is your interest in Terra anything but humanitarian? Forgive me if you have already spoken to Councilor Rosenthal on the matter. I thought this meeting involved another matter and was not briefed properly.”

John spoke in following. "From what I understand the different worlds that compose the Aschen Confederation of Planets suffer immensely under the weight of McGregor's rule." Then Rye spoke again. “We are a peacekeeping force, not a military organization not one of the navies.” Rye leaned forward. “The mandate authorized by the council is the liberation and protection of Terra, the Sol system, and the offering of assistance to reestablish the Terran National Government unless amended by the council. The fleet here at Sol Stat and in the Sol system can offer assistance assaulting Aschen targets in Sol, the surrounding region, and this constellation provided that it is for the best interest of defending in furthering that mandate. We are also well capable of providing fleet support.”

Jessica then spoke. “Every other empire’s thrown it’s hand into making a nation on Terra -- certainly their scenario is unfortunate, they are the road to the Aschen, but that’s just geopolitics. You are ‘liberating’ Terra now but we ‘liberated’ it two decades ago during the First Terran Conflict -- face-to-face, soldier-to-soldier -- their stability cannot come internally. A controlled Aschen power means a stable Local Region, a stable Terra. We’re not killing collaborators like the Taiyou -- don’t think the Terrans are innocent in this thing either, they play the victim just as much as the Aschen -- but here is what is going to happen; the Taiyou won’t be able to take the fight all the way and that is where we will come in. The faster law and order is restored here, the faster forces in our uniform will be out of the Local Region and into Aschen space.”

The men half picked up, half dragged the woman over to a chair and dumped her there. They excused themselves shortly after, not wanting to interrupt the business at hand.

The dirty woman laid sprawled out in the chair, cold in her unconsciousness, and remained still.

She was not waking up any time soon. A knot the size of a baseball had formed on her temple and a nasty bruise was creeping up along her cheekbone.

"I am not quite sure what to make of this," Cain admitted as he examined the recording. "Still, I will not jump to any conclusions and if I am perfectly honest, nothing has been said so far that I wouldn't have expected. I don't pretend to be intimate with the politics of nations, but a stable Terra was obviously going to be on someone's agenda."

He rubbed his temples. "I really cannot afford to remain deaf and blind to these things any longer. I will have to personally involve myself with these politics if I don't want to throw away everything we've done here. If this is a game, I will need to know the players, the sides and all of the pieces."

Meanwhile, Cain had kept half an eye on the unconscious woman. He spared a glance at her every so often during which he noticed her face was in quite a state. He quickly took a second to call for medical attention and then directed an elderly doctor to her.

Einar Falls nodded as the video continued. "I will address the council on the subject of posting a larger force in Sol to stage a push through and into the Langaran system. Such a decision is not made lightly by the council and will take some time. For now we can only operate within the mandate. Since UCON has fought the Aschen over the span of many years, on many planets, and in many systems I think it would go without question that the VEF and VET should follow UCONs lead.”, John said in the video. Einar quickly offered a response. “John’s request was denied.”

Rye spoke then with a sour expression on his face. “That goes provided we have similar tactics. For the best interest of a safe and stable Terra.” The sour face melted away and Rye continued on. "I believe the Field Marshal is already trying to establish law and order by co-operating with local law enforcement operations, Invictus, and the Patronus planet side. It does not help their cause that we have been only able to land very sparse heavy equipment without being detected by other factions. My surprise at seeing a UCON delegation on this station should be apparent. You are not unwelcome.”

Rye then turned to John. “The only reason I have not yet marshaled the fleet in an attempt to blockade Terra is that I know nothing of the Taiyou interest in the planet or its people. Especially since the city was fired upon and Emperor Takayama declared war on the Terran National Government. It is this lack of information that stayed Admiral Haldis’s hand. I was planning on briefing you on the situation. Warden Kenshi has been requesting air and low orbit support for some time now. She also needs heavy equipment and the majority of her soldiers.”, he said. The video then ended.

Einar flipped the touch screen around and touched it a few times with his fingers. “What was that file name again?”, he said to himself. “Ah. Yes. EGO. Play shared file: Vena Kenshi 001678.” The female voice returned and did the authentication process it had done before.

The video opened from Vena Kenshi's point of view. She was in the vestibule within the Patronus temple. She was looking at a large statue of Aurion Caldore. A woman's voice issued from behind her which caused Vena to turn.

Rhea of the Patronus spoke. "You're new here.” Rhea moved closer. “Aurion Caldore. He was one of the founders of the Patronus, and one of the final twelve that fell to the Orsa of Terminus. A Celestial of some renown. They say his death marked the end of the Patronus line for a millennium. I'm Rhea, is there something I can help you with?”

Vena responded then. “You are correct. I am new here. I find myself reminded of my people’s own past when enjoying the art in the place. My name is Vena. As much as I would like to say I have come to the place to admire the art and study Terra’s history I have come for other matters. I represent an intergalactic faction. As such I am not sure you can help me as my information is limited in reference to the Patronus. I know that the Patronus has benevolent ideals and were once sworn to the protection of Terra.”

Rhea respond in turn. "That they were, and are. Who is it that you represent?” Vena replied next. “I represent a peace keeping organization know as the Accord or the Warden. The organization's proper name is the Varden but the Aschen have come to refer to us as the Varden Hegemony as we are primarily a joint policing force that is supported by five distinct galactic empires. My people...”, she said and then paused. The Varden are sworn to protect the weak and defenseless and give succor to widows and orphans. The wars raging across Terra and above her have made many widows and orphans. We have been providing supplies to shelters and running covert escort as a number of other factions evacuate the refugees that want safe haven off of Terra. We would like to see Terra recover and her government stand on its own two feet again.”, Vena said and then glanced at the statue.

Rhea then handed her an envelope and spoke of a meeting held by the Invictus. “The Invictus... We actually knew of Stryfe and The Invictus but we did not know of their ambitions or place within the chaos. Thank you. We shall bring supplies for the refugees. We will not bring weapons of any kind for them to fight with. Food, shelter, and water are what we offer. I am sure the Patronus can defend Windcrest if it is attacked on foot?”

The video then went black but the progress bar said that it was only half finished.

The video picked up then with the point of view shifted behind the person who’s point of view it was supposed to be. Vena was standing before a number of Aschen soldier outside of the Patronus temple. “It is a decoy.”, offered Einar with an attempt to explain why the point of view was not where it should be. “Rhea! May I join you and this delegation in the dining hall? I believe we have a vested interest in this meeting.”

The Aschen raised their weapons and Admiral Nagala spoke. "You're not welcome here. "The Varden are allied with the Taiyou bent on the destruction of our people as a race, tell everyone to get to safety... now." Nagala turned to a woman near her with white hair. EGO had read the woman’s lips and put the words at the bottom of the video. “Whisper, if this turns violent I need you to do your thing.” The Aschen Admiral then turned back to Vena’s decoy. "There are elderly and Children here. I will fight you any time, any place. This is not the place. Leave."

Before Vena could act a man with gray hair stepped up and silenced the Admiral, cutting off any reply Vena could issue. "Enough! This is neutral ground. There will be no hostility here, from either of you, while you both remain our guests. I don't ask you to like each other, but to tolerate one another's presence. You're each acting as ambassadors of some form, this is no different to any other negotiations. Even enemies don't draw their blades or guns on one another in such circumstances.” A faint amber-orange glow issued from the man’s arrow sheathe his hip.

The white haired woman stood close to the Admiral and offered no words. Vena’s decoy took two steps forward and an indicator came up on the left side of the video screen. Einar spoke to explain. “EGO is warning her that the decoy is failing and will not last much longer.” Vena’s decoy spoke. "We do have a vested interest in this meeting. The Varden defend the interests of the Terran people through our council's mandate."

Nagala lowered her weapon slightly. "We're in a state of War with the Varden Hegemony, we're not participating in any negotiations with her present." She then spat before continuing on. “For all I know it could be a trap. Let's go, I don't think the Taiyou have missed our arrival, it won't be long before they arrive to kill everyone here.”

Rhea spoke now. “An attack upon yourselves would be an attack upon this temple. Vena. I invited you to accompany me to Wing City so that you might discuss your business with the appropriate people, people that can't be found here. The Patronus are not the Terran Government, and any negotiations in regards to matters of these wars are better directed elsewhere. This is not the place for war councils, intergalactic diplomacy, or planetary defenses. I will have to ask that you wait outside while this matter is concluded.”

Rhea then looked to Nagala. “I will speak with you.”, she said to the Admiral. Your men can wait here if you wish. The girl may accompany you.” The party turned away and then the screen went black, the video ending.

Cain Genesis watched in silence throughout, only offering a nod when Einar explained the various anomalies in the footage. Once it finally ended and the screen went black, the man leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"So the Varden are at war with the Aschen. You are not acting with the Taiyou, are you? As far as I was aware, the Taiyou declared war on the remnants of the TNG and that makes them just as much my enemy, especially if they see the TNG as the only lawful governing figure on Terra."

Still, it wasn't like he could do much about it whatever the case. "So, is that it?" He went on to ask, trailing his fingers around a glass of water that he occasionally sipped. "What of Terra itself? The planet is in a state of anarchy, are there not regional governments taking power over areas of the planet? Warlords expanding their influence and using the chaos to their advantage? Or not even an attempt to restore the National Government and with it, order?"

Einar Falls nodded, leaning back in his chair. "The Varden have been at war with the Aschen for about a year but have been unable to act until recently. Inaya and Ithica, the Varden council world is more than one billion light-years distant but let me easy your mind. We are not working with the Taiyou. How could we work with someone who has such disregard for life?", Einar said, referring to how the Taiyou were treating Aschen civilians.

“There is more to show but I will answer your other questions first. There are some minor warlords that have risen to power, mostly in third world nations or places that the Terran National Government does not have an established hold over. Despite the failing of your government, the people have united more than I think you would believe. I am not saying that crime on your world had not risen exponentially. It has. Most of the grasping or talks have been made by extraterrestrial power blocks. Some others on the planet have spoken out for reform. Invictus is one of them. ”
