After the riots of 2073, the London Metropolitan Flying Squad commissioned Lyalin Industries to produce an autonomous security and riot control platform to assist their officers in keeping the peace.

This is the result of that collaboration, finally available on the civilian market after three years of political wrangling.

The LRX419 is a fusion of modern robotics technology and mil-spec hardware. Built from a mixture of carbon fibre panels and a ceramic exoskeleton, the 419 is guaranteed to resist sustained small arms fire up to 12.7mm rounds.

The advanced sensor suite incorporates both traditional visual perception blocks and advanced multi-target tracking software originally developed for the close-in weapon systems on warships. The detection and tracking suite includes infra-red cameras and an echo-location device.

Our proprietary artificial intelligence software comes in three principle types. The A-series is little more than a drone, requiring guidance via laser designator and simple verbal instructions. The B-series has a degree of autonomy within a specified set of parameters, but it will always ask for confirmation before undertaking any task. The C-Series is quasi-sentient, capable of matching the intelligence of any security guard or law enforcement officer.

Advanced kinematic modelling software has allowed us to replicate human hands to a minute degree, ensuring that the 419 model is as dexterous as possible. As such, the 419 is able to use any firearm produced in the last 300 years and operate a huge variety of complex devices. Our proprietary ungulate-hybrid locomotion system allows the 419 to cover long distances with greater endurance than a Royal Marine [[Embedded .mpe4 file (LRX419/A vs Sgt Gareth Powell, Royal Marine Commandos)]],leap up to two metres vertically and jump gaps of six meters horizontally.

The LRX419/A, B and C models ship from our Enfield factory on the 29th of June. They will be available from Lyalin Robotics dealerships across the country and from a limited number of specialist retailers at the competitive price of £67,000. Order yours online from LyalinIndustries.sys.uk to avoid disappointment.

The video was likely captured on a handheld device, maybe a mobile telephone or one of Apple's new range of micro cameras. As such, the feed is heavily artefacted, large blocks of torn pixels obscuring the glare of street lights. The cameraman stands on the pavement, surrounded by a mob of drunken party-goers forced into a straggly crocodile by burly security men. Rows of decrepit looking night clubs and kebab shops frame the picture, their flashing signs illuminating the street with a neon glare.

The subject of the video is a robot. One of Lyalin Industries 4-series by the angular hunch of the back and shoulders, and the glossy black carapace covering its joints and couplings. A lit cigarette dangled incongruously from the corner of the robot's voice modulation slit, the smoke curling up into the artefacted sky. The 4-series had tried to enter the Royal Aurora, one of the classier establishments on the strip, only to be rebuffed by a mountainous bouncer, tapping a fat finger against the sign displaying the club's door policy. Affronted, the robot began to shout.

“That's fuckin' discriminatory, mate. I ain't done nothin' to you, fuckin' let me in.”

He tried to push past the bouncer, only to be pulled up short by a meaty hand placed firmly on his chest housing.

“Don't you fucking touch me, ya fuckin' cunt.”

The push turned into a hard shove, driving the robot back across the pavement. Almost faster than the camera could follow, the robot clamped his hand around the bouncer's wrist, shattering the bones like dry twigs in his strong grasp.

Ashen faced, the bouncer threw an ineffectual punch, only to be laid out like a freshly-clubbed baby seal as the 4-series drove his other fist down onto the bridge of the man's nose, sending a splash of crimson blood across the Aurora's queue.

Releasing the now-unconscious bouncer, the robot turned towards the camera, spreading his arms in a surprisingly human expression of defiance.

“Come on you fuckin' cunts. I'll take you all on if you think you're fuckin' hard enough!”

The image appears to have been ripped straight from the optical display of a robot or drone. The machine's heads-up display obscures the central and bottom left and right portions of the screen. The high-quality image shows the interior of a dilapidated tenement with cracked plaster walls marred by tendrils of black mould.

Framed by the decaying decor was a camp bed, little more than an army surplus cot. Spread on it like a bed sheet was a Union flag, the red white and blue fabric discoloured by dirt and grime. Arranged on top of the flag were a number of firearms.

Positioned around the intersection of the Welsh and English cross were a pair of black polymer handguns, one with a targeting array and a compensator hooked over the stubby barrel. The second had been skeletonized, exposing the chromed barrel and interior springs.

A large calibre revolver with flaking parkerization and wooden grips sat above the angled pistols. A low magnification telescopic sight had been crudely bolted to the upper rail.

On the other side of the three pistols rested a number of olive drab stick grenades, stamped with white markings betraying their military origins. Opposite the explosives lay a stubby shotgun with wooden grips worn smooth by use.

Shells and brass-cased bullets had been scattered over the flag like rose petals on a marriage bed. A number of knives weighed down the flag's corners.

“Fuck me, this place is a right shithole.”

A hooded figure lurked in the shadows of an alleyway, swathed in a threadbare overcoat studded with tarnished brass badges and frayed patches. His face was hidden by a faded green hood and the coat's raised collar. From the depths of the hood, a single eye winked. It looked more like a lens than an eye, rotating and contracting as it focussed on the cavalcade of werewolves careening down the street.

He had spoken to one of Vargeras' down-trodden citizens, who had backed deeper into the alley as the wolves thundered past. The hooded figure pulled a packet of local cigarettes from his coat pocket, offering one to his companion.

“Mate, you really need to call the RSPCA. Got a serious wild dog problem...”

The citizen, who had introduced himself as Henri, declined the proffered cigarette and shrugged. “This is why you are here, no?”

A rough approximation of a laugh echoed from under the hood, followed shortly by the whir of mechanical joints as the hooded figure sauntered towards the mouth of the alley.

“Yeah, but no-one said nothing about this shit.” A gloved hand emerged from the greatcoat's sleeve and extracted a crumpled cigarette from the pack. The pack disappeared back into the coat, replaced by a battered zippo lighter with a pair of naked women engraved on it. The cigarette flared, throwing the stranger's face into sharp relief.

Angular and inhuman, it was dominated by a hooded optical array that reflected the light like a faceted crystal. He jammed the cigarette into the narrow slot that passed for a mouth, letting it smoulder. Henri backed further down the alley, cursing and making signs against evil.

“And fuck you too, cunt.” The hooded figure replied, raising two fingers in a reverse “V” sign, before plunging both hands into his pockets and setting out after the charging pack of wolves.

While Baron and Ragenard went careening off through the city, the rest of the pack was making their way back towards the den house at a more leisurely pace.

Julienne was the first to note something off about the individual approaching them as she scented the air. She was smaller than the rest with thick brown fur, but she was one of the packs best trackers. It didn't take more than a faint whiff for her to realize something was off about the individual. He wasn't human, but she couldn't be certain what he was.

There was something almost mechanical about him. Something familiar about his scent too, they had passed him by earlier... two blocks ago.

She stopped in her tracks and her skin writhed and rippled as she shed her fur and rose to her feet a woman once more. At her side Carlisle too was shedding his lupine form in favor of one that could speak.

Modesty was a forsaken concept for them, and neither seemed remotely uncomfortable with their state of dress - or lack there of.

"Who the fuck are you," Julienne asked. "And why are you following us?"

The figure cocked his head, the smouldering cigarette dropping from his mouth to smoke on the damp cobbles. He let the silence hang on the still air, the optic under his hood playing over the female's nudity.

After a few seconds, he approximated a giggle and spoke. “Nice jugs, love.”

Under the coat, imperceptible changes were taking place. Servos were angling plates of composite armour over vital joints. His reactions were sharpening as combat sub-routines booted up. His reverse-jointed legs flexed and shifted, lowering his centre of gravity and adding almost half an inch to his height. His optic cycled through several different settings before settling on a monochrome thermal camera, which picked out the two werewolves in sharp relief and the half-dozen locals cowering behind locked doors.

At Julienne's back one of the wolves gave a low deep growl. It was a throaty sound and near imperceptible with how low it was, but her ear caught it. Something about this man was just wrong. Had he been human they might have picked up some sense of his intentions, an air of hostility or a spike of adrenaline, but there was nothing aside from the audible sound of mechanics too faint for the human ear to have picked up.

"Mature," she remarked dryly. "Are you going to tell us what the fuck you want, or are you going to get out of our way?" she asked.

A hoof-like foot crushed the cigarette's soggy remains as the figure took a pace forward, bending forward slightly at the hips, splaying out the overcoat's tails to reveal his glossy black exoskeleton and the angular curve of his legs. The robot cracked his knuckles and shook out his broad shoulder, mannerisms that he had acquired through several years of fighting beside humans.

The low growl nagged at his auditory sensors like a sonar pulse echoing off the hull of a submarine. He made eye contact with the source of the sound, clicking his tongue as if he were calling a pet to heel. “Nice doggy...”

Julienne rolled her eyes. "We don't have time for this shit, let's go," she said to the others as they moved to pass him by. The wolves broke off to skirt around him on either side, while she and Carlisle moved to pass him on the right.

The wolf that had growled earlier kept a side-long look at him as they moved forward, but the others seemed intent on simply ignoring him.

“Oy. I'm talking to you...”

He stepped in front of the woman, reaching out to grab her shoulder. Underneath his coat, the final sequence of combat modifications activated, locking his ceramic exoskeleton against the titanium bones, restricting his movement but covering the exposed joints in his arms, legs and torso. A billowing gust of wind whipped the hood from his head as a heavy ceramic gorget slid up to protect his throat.

A serrated knife dropped out of his sleeve like a magician's slight of hand trick, the narrow blade glinting in the dying sunlight.

“I just want to talk to your boss, alright?”

The man grabbing for Julienne's shoulder and the flash of a knife was all it took to provoke the growling wolf to make a move. The man hadn't time enough to even finish his sentence before four hundred pounds of fur, muscle, sinew, and snapping jaws threw itself at the man. Fangs flashed and heated saliva flew everywhere as the beast tried to bowl him to the ground to take his head clean off.

The wolf at his back moved in as well, though it was substantially smaller than the first at about only two-hundred pounds. It's jaws snapped for what would have been a hamstring had he been human.

Simultaneously to the wolves lunging at the man who had pulled a knife on Julienne, Carlisle pulled her back by her shoulder. Both he and she where extremely vulnerable at the moment.

"Let me go!" she snapped at Carlisle. "I'm going to kill that mother fucker."

Realizing that Julienne was about to throw herself into the fray unarmed, Carlisle slipped his arm around her and forcefully pulled her back as she kicked and clawed at him. Her brown eyes had shifted to an amber hue as the transformation threatened to overtake her right then and there.

Wayne's world became a swirling mass of flashing threat indicators and markers highlighting the incoming blows. Software adapted from a military-grade automatic defense system took over, shunting all non-essential processes to the secondary brain embedded in the robot's chest.

He barely had time to spit a string of curses before being bowled over by the wolf's giant mass. While he could have kept his feet, the charge took him out of the second attacker's range. He lashed out with his open hand, delivering a stinging blow to the side of the werewolf's elongated skull. The movement was purely mechanical, a clinical strike designed to stun and disorient his target. Another trio of hissing slaps followed the first faster than the eye could blink.

The second wolf simply adjusted its target as the man fell, still snapping for his leg. If it got a hold of Wayne's leg it would clamp down with a vice grip, shaking its massive head back and forth much like a dog with an oversize chew toy - albeit it less humorous.

Meanwhile the wolf on top snapped its jaws inches from Wayne's face, spattering him with steaming hot saliva as Wayne held it at bay. The first blow only served to enrage it further, but the subsequent blows had it shaking its head as it blindly snapped its head to the side to close its jaws around Wayne's arm to stop the rain of blows.

"Let me go!" Julienne shrieked.

"Calm down," Carlisle hissed into her ear. It took both arms around her to keep hold of her at this point. "It's almost over."

To an observer it looked as such anyways with Wayne down on the ground with the two wolves tearing at him.

Sparks flew as the combination of enamel and bite force dug a series of parallel grooves in the armour plate. With a hiss of escaping gas, a powerful set of pistons triggered. The pistons drove the robot's three-toed foot straight into the wolf's face with a crunch of snapping bone.

While a human might have had to divide his attention between the two opponents, Wayne's sophisticated processing systems allowed him to deal with both targets simultaneously. Without so much as a grunt, he smashed his bulbous forehead into the larger wolf's face, wrenching his arm free of the snapping jaws with a shriek of tortured servos.

The wolf that had been kicked let out a yelp and fell back as it shied away from another kick, but the one on top wouldn't be deterred. The head-smash would be largely cushioned by the wolf's thick mane of fur, but it released the arm in favor of snapping back towards Wayne's face. It was still disoriented and its vision muddled up from the blows to its head, and it was largely reacting off the movement and instinct.

The wolf seemed intent on going for the kill, and if it got its jaws around Wayne's face in the split second that his head was up against the wolf's, it had little intent of releasing him until it managed to decapitate him if necessary.

On the rooftops overlooking Vargeras, he crouched, overlooking the commotion below. His face was concealed by a patchwork cloth mask. Resting atop his head was a ratty top hat, a trademark style for this peculiar Hunter. Everything about his appearance was strange: his attire was an assortment of badly-sewn articles of clothing, his posture reflected confidence, malice, and confusion all at once, and his invisible stare was largely unsettling.

Nox Mellencamp, one of the Ardelean Society's finest Hunters, if one could believe such a statement, stood watch over the brawl that had erupted in the streets below. A group of werewolves were having it out with a mysterious figure in the streets. It seemed the wolves had the upper hand, but not without their opponent giving them some trouble himself. However, the strange individual was pinned to the ground, being mauled by the werewolves as they held him firm in their inhumanly strong grips.

He decided, without much consideration or planning on his part whatsoever, that he must do his civic duty and end this fight quickly. From his back, he retrieved his signature weapon: a gas-propelled, fully automatic crossbow that fired silver-tipped bolts. Aiming through the telescope he had attached to the top of his weapon, he fired off six rounds into the brawling group, who or what he hit not being his concern at all.

"Scatter, ye foul dregs, or I will be forced to dispatch you!" Without a moment's hesitation, he procured from his coat a series of explosives; white phosphorus bombs to be more specific. Igniting the bombs quickly, Nox tossed them to the street below, listening with glee as the thundering applause of his deadly children erupted through the streets. Should anyone be hit by the aftermath of the detonations, they would be pelted with shards of metal burning with such intensity that it would graft into their skin, causing permanent damage to any vital extremities, such as eyes, ears, and reproductive organs. Additionally, the flames that the bombs produced were enough to set fur or any other flammable material alight, causing severe burns and possibly death if they spread far enough.

As this madness transpired, Nox continued to spray bolts from his crossbow on the streets below, sweeping his weapon from side to side. "Say hello to my little friend!" he shouted in a mock Italian-American accent.

The wolf atop Wayne let out a yelp as a crossbow quarrel struck it in the side of the neck, while a second pierced its flank. It twisted, snapping at the quarrel as it fell onto its side, flailing violently.

It was enough to set the second wolf skirting back with a whine as more quarrels struck the pavement. A moment later it had turned tail and was booking it down the street.

Carlisle pulled himself and Julienne into the doorway of a street side cafe to shelter them from the rain of crossbow bolts, but it afforded them minimal protection from the phosphorus bombs.

Shards of metal peppered their exposed sides as Carlisle thew the door to the cafe open.

"Out the back!" he barked.

Even Julienne's temper was stayed in the wake of the death of one of their own, and the attack from an unknown source. The pair pushed tables, chairs, and even people out of the way as they headed out the back of the cafe, disappearing in a different direction from the fleeing wolf.

Meanwhile the felled wolf had fallen still as its fur began to recede, leaving a man sprawled in the street with two crossbow quarrels embedded in his scorched flesh.

Lindsay was hiding under the tree that was right next to the roof top Nox was standing on, she had been slightly distracted by the fighting, but then realized she was in danger, her wolf form taking over, causing her to yelp in pain as her body changed and her clothes had ripped off, her muscles now showing, her legs thicker, her tail long and bushy, she stood to her feet, and Lindsay took off at full speed in wolf form, she took off running the other way.
