The blonde man, a paladin, crossed his arms and grinned wide. "Oh, don't worry, the competition is going to go one for far longer than one day. It spans this whole month. A whole month of fighting giant monsters! And no one said you had to fight. Join in the festivities! Chat with the people. It's all in good fun...and good sport!"

He gestured to the door. "The portal to Aberash will be located in the Ruins. It's not so long a walk at all. Boarding is cheap, too."

"Oh, it's not exactly what you think. The Gargantua are hardly sentient, and I don't believe they even feel pain." answered Lucian, looking between them. "They're not even organic. Most are larger than forty feet, covered in the elements they were born around. Most have some kind of armor- oh! And what you actually have to hit to defeat them? Their Core. A shiny glowy orb of energy that can power a whole city. That's one big prize, right there. There's no werewolves or vampires or...anything else. It's just fighting Gargantua. It's fun."

When Ethaline bumped into him, he apologized, moving away to give her space. When he heard the hiss, however, he paused, tilting his chin up to peer at her. Interesting.

"What is this, here?" he asked her with a smirk, a charmer?" He sat upon the stool and watched the holographic show for just a moment.

He sighed, however, and waved at Nikodemus to turn it off. "Our efforts turned up dry except for this one man, Nik. We'll have to try another time." He shook his head. "What a disappointment."

"Oh, it isn't a problem." said Lucian to Etheline, giving her a rather charming smile. He leaned back onto the counter and drew a chair to lay his feet up on. Nikodemus, dejected, loped over to sit beside Lucian, head hung low.

Lucian, meanwhile, peered at Declan and Mike for a moment, raising a brow. Magic, huh? "That could be useful in battle." he said to Mike. "Don't you think? You'd do really well."

His attention moved to Etheline for a moment. Something about her hood was...odd.

"...oh, no, no. I'm just, ah. A little entranced." said Lucian, flicking his bangs out of his face. Just like a pretty boy would.

He offered his eyes onto the opposite wall, then at the men Nikodemus had approached.

He glanced back at Declan, however, and then to Etheline. Oh, so it wasn't just him. There actually was something going on with her.

"...oh, but I'd beg to differ." Lucian said to Etheline. "Even so covered up, I'd argue." It seemed like the other man had disappeared for now. Lucky, lucky him, especially while Niko was busy getting people interested.

"So, tell me...you come here often?"

"You don't need to be a mage to entrance..." said Lucian on the side. He rose a brow at the woman. "Why, you probably don't even have to try~"

Nikodemus glanced at Lucian for an annoyed moment.

"Aaaanyway. So you're in? Great! Great, great. There's a portal in the Ruins, and it'll transport you all to the Sterling Hall, where the Silver Queen'll give you guys a speech, and you'll be given liability release form. Y'know, because you agreed to fight monsters and we didn't force you kind of thing."

"...ah, sorry. I wasn't being too obvious, was I?" said Lucian, frowning. He brightened right back up again. "Let me give you a direct answer; yes. Yes, I am absolutely flirting with you. Does that make things easier?"

"Odd? Oddly beautiful, perhaps?" he said smoothly, leaning over the counter. "I don't see how anyone would think such a nice girl like you is anything else. I mean, it'd just be an insult to say any less, wouldn't it?"

He was laying it on thick, Lucian was.

Lucian's heel bumped into the stool leg repeatedly as he looked at her face.

"You know, in a place like this, not just the bar, but Wing City in general...I don't think anyone would mind about what you're hiding under there." he said bravely. "I've seen a lot of different people in my time. Oh, but if you're shy, I can understand that."

"Well, if anyone tried to get anything on your, miss, I'll be sure to give them a good...talking to." He gave her a wink, then patted his sword.

"I'm a paladin, myself, but I think I'm a bit more accepting than others of the same trade."

Once in the Preparation Chambers, the warriors would find a possible familiar face or two.

Nikodemus and Lucian.

They were grinning like fools at the other competitors, bowing at them in a joking, over dramatic manner. "Well, well, well! Fighters. You're all dudes, you notice that, Lucian?" said Nik, the man with the long black hair set into a ponytail.

"Well, yes. I'd complain, but I'm afraid any women to join this competition might be larger than Bao. Or our Minotaur friend, here. Not that there's anything wrong with that." joked Lucian, the blonde paladin.

"Now! You all may be wondering why you're shuffling rooms. Well, it's part of the whole...official...thing. Whatever. As for the Gargantuan you'll be fighting, well...it won't be one today. It'll be seventeen of them. And it'll be a team effort to get points in."

Lucian began to unload weapons from the table, all of them coated in a strange blue glow. They were all daggers and swords in vastly different sizes.

"You're totally allowed to use your own weapons, but you'll need to carry one of these with you to absorb, and therefore give the finishing blow, to the Gargantuan's Core. It'll be absorbed into the Geist Orb- this clear sphere thing- above the arena. You all are following so far, right?"

The Gargantuan Stage spanned far and wide, closing in on the horizon. Flying over them were small cameras with rotors attached. Screens hovered in the air, at least four of them about thirty feet wide, showing the Audience what they could not view up close.

On the opposite side of the fighters, a door slid up, releasing the gargantuan.

They were as Nikodemus and Lucian described- spiderlike creatures made of scrap copper pieces. Forty feet in height. Each one tipped with sharp spikes. They were swift and many, running towards the fighters in less than a minute across the vast stage.

Lucian and Nikodemus had retreated to the sides of the stage, staying close to the walls. Maybe they knew something the other fighters didn't. Maybe they were cowards. They would all find out soon.

One of the Spinners had made it ahead of its group, immediately raising their front legs to try and spear the most obvious of their targets- Damionell.

Two others had gone around it and tried to pick off of the smaller targets. The ones in shiny armor looked easy to pick off, and were obvious to the eye.

After the first round of the Hunt, Lucian stepped out of the portal, leaning his sword over his shoulders. It had been a tiresome affair, and he could not be sure if he was ready for the next round already. He'd need at least another day of recuperation, but he couldn't allow the other fighters to see that, now could he? Or the crowd, which would be in charge of heightening the grandness of his prizes if he made a good enough impression.

So, the paladin stumbled into the Ruins, thinking about getting a room and board at Gambit's, or perhaps Taylor's, or any other popular, but not stuffed, establishments around the area. He ran his fingers through his hair, slick with sweat, and stretched his arms up.

"Well, well, nothing like a Hunt to get back in shape, I guess."

While walking down from the portal, which lay between two towering pillars, Lucian's attention was taken by two people. One, a white-haired man sitting in front of two graves. A rather sad, and even serene scene. The other, a younger man walking up towards him.

Lucian decided to address both clearly.

"Odd to see even this many people around here! I'm likely wrong, but are you here for the competition? Both of you, that is." He kept in view atop a slight hill, obvious to them both if they looked toward the sound of his voice.

Lucian nodded to Aeryn, a wide smile coming to his face. "Yeah, that's a good one, and I'd hate to disappoint you, but-" He tilted his head back, gesturing to the pillars behind him, "-it's not happening around here, and it's not hide and seek!"

He leaned onto the nearest ruin he could find, groaning from the earlier day's fight. "It's called a Gargantuan Hunt. It's annual, and happening in one of the richest cities on the planet. Called Aberash, by the way. City is Vien. Ever heard of a bullfight?" he asked both men.

"Well, it's like that, just...not a bull. Bug monsters! Not...organic beats, like you'd expect, but some kind of being composed of the elements they manipulate around them, around this...life force, called a Core. Big glowy light thing. It's enough to power a city for years. There's no shortage of these guys, and they aren't exactly sentient, so the sport's clean. Or so they say."

He perked a brow.

"Have I caught your attention?"

"Of course there's more. The competition lasts a month. It's not just a competition of fighting monsters, it's pleasing the crowd! Becoming a celebrity. And the more liked you are? The better the prizes. People who win gambles put money into your name, so when you win each round, that money goes to funding your reward."

He tried not to laugh at Nack's inquiry. "Giant bugs? Hardly! Some of them may not be too smart, but give the Gargantua a little more credit! Some of them are worshiped as Gods, of a sort. After their death, normally. Some take the shape of bugs, others dust storms, others something more... recognizable. Shockingly so. Each Gargantuan is different from the next. Some are designed by human hands, and they make puzzles out of them. It's not just punching monsters in the face. It's about thinking."

"Easy. You don't. But you'll be missing out. I'm also a paladin-" He splayed his arms out at his sides, "-check me if you want!" He lifted his chin in a laugh. "Or not. Or, if you want, just come up to the portal. There's a round going off right now. You might be able to see it."

He began to walk backwards, gesturing for both men to follow. The portal was at least a house high. They had to compensate for the rather large...Minotaur...that had passed through earlier. As they came up to it, the reflection of a world that was galaxies away from Terra met their eyes.

The crowd was so vast, so lively, that the roar was deafening. The stands moved like an ant colony, hectically organized, and so filled that every person was stuffed shoulder to shoulder. But they did not mind. It was the battle that they had their attention on.

In the distance, in an arena a mile across, completely flat, with dust bellowing all around, was a titanic spiderlike monster, forty feet in height, made of copper scraps, trying to aim its sharp, thin legs at a man dressed like a gladiator below.

"...sillier than the one you've got on, you mean?" huffed the paladin irritably. "I'll have you know this armor is a Karyusan special, given to me under the name of the Knight Queen Enda Klee as a sending away present. She's a pain in the ass, but she means well, and it wouldn't be wise to insult it." He gave Aeryn a smirk. "Lest you find the favors turned in a team battle, if you and I are paired up."

It was a playful threat, one not to be taken seriously, but the paladin had an insufferable pride. Mostly to himself.

When Nack expressed his bewilderment, Lucian's attention deviated. "Yeah, sure is a beaut, isn't it? And it's being televised to all other parts of the world...and a few others."

"Hmph. Well you gotta be more specific!" snorted the paladin, rolling his shoulder back. He moved to step through the portal, looking back at them.

"Well, c'mon. If you need some board, it's cheap, but nice. I'll introduce you to the Silver Queen. She's...kinda running the thing, and would like names before anyone barrels into the arena."

With that, he stepped into the portal, into the Silver Stage.

The setting changes from The Ruins to Zahn Street

Zahn street was a vast and bustling area, filled with such a thick wave of people rushing back and forth from the arena that there was hardly any space to look around. Some headed to the Hangover, a busy bar that was popular with the locals, especially, and some poured from Tan Vien Inn. Hovercraft sped overhead, which looked nothing like the technological messes that you'd find on any other planet. They harnessed the power of a Core, which one got from the Gargantua. It was chunks of well-shaped metal that revolved around the ball of light, with a rider guiding its energy outlets.

They looked some something from Atlantis, not a futuristic city.

A paladin, one of the competitors from the recent Opening Ceremony, was walking down the street, with people parting in his path, whispering and crying out to him about his bravery.

...and how much he sucked for being slammed into the wall by a pansy Gargantuan!

It seemed that Lucian would stumble, unfortunately or fortunately, upon that girl that everyone was talking about. He noticed a few eyes being directed away from his heroic stature and onto...

"...well, well, well. Well. What..." The man in armor rounded the corner, facing the black-haired woman, "...do we...have here?"

With a smug look on his face, he began to eye the girl up, and never without a smirk. "You must be a big name if everyone's talking about you and pointing. I didn't see you in the Openings, though! What are you, second round?"

He held out his hand to her, raising his chin. "I'm Lucian Segal. Paladin from Sozo."

She was just about completely relaxed; something that was rare for the warrior when someone interrupted her solitude with questions that she neither understood nor cared to understand. Sliding her gaze towards him, she studied him while he looked upon her with a smug expression. She resisted the urge to slam her fist into his face and instead crossed both arms against her chest, keeping quite calm and impassive. Staring at his had as he extended it out towards her, she glanced behind him towards the crowd that had began to grow around them before returning her attention towards him.

"What on earth are you talking about, you sad little man? What openings?"

Finally taking his hand, she shook it and couldn't help but squeeze it a bit more than what was necessary. Returning her arm back to her chest, she crossed it over the other that remained in the same place and shot the encroaching crowd a very deadly glare. Yes, if they got much closer, she was going to begin shooting them or ripping open their chests with their hands. She hated nosy people.

"The name is Obsidian Fyre."

Lucian frowned. "Sad...little man?" He crossed his arms and looked down at her. "I beg to differ! I am not sad nor am I little...in any aspect."

He began to walk around her, his hand resting between the hilt of his sword and his hip casually. "Let's see...that's a gun I spot, isn't it? And you look feisty enough. Don't know how you ended up here, of all places, right during the time that the Hunt is going on, but you're extremely lucky." He stopped once in front of her again, a smug look on his face.

"Obsidian Fyre. I. Like. That. Name. Well, could a lil' mama like you do with some cash? Maybe with some bigger rewards? Fame? What do you think?"
