Name: Maria Raghild
Height: 5'10
Weight: 170 lb.
Age: 1211
Species: Human, werewolf
Sub-Species: Ulfhednar
Place of Birth: Western G'ael, Terra
Current Residence: n/a

Maria is a human barbarian that hails far to the north from the lands of G'ael. She is an imposing and dominating figure with thick red locks of hair and steely grey eyes. Though taller in stature than is typically deemed attractive in a woman, her striking features could once have been deemed alluring; however, her looks have grown marred by the feral state that grips her, and the ragged scar that runs down the length of her neck from ear to sternum. Both hair and clothing are frequently wild and unkempt.

Afflicted with lycanthropy, Maria's war with her growing affliction has left what attractiveness she once possessed to slip away with each drop of her humanity. Even within her human state, the lycanthropy affliction seems to have taken root in her mannerisms and increasing instability. As is customary of her kind, Maria is strongly bound to the lunar cycles and forced into her werewolf state upon the night of the full moon; however, having been so overtaken by her affliction, Maria is also capable of releasing the beast within her during times of intense duress.

Maria is currently serving a penal sentence in the Aschen military.

As Strahga moved past Maria's position, she reached out a hand to grab him firmly around the upper arm. There was a sharp intensity to her eyes as she narrowed them upon Strahga, but a quick search of his face left her perplexed enough to release her grip.

Maria narrowed her eyes as the man spoke to her, before after a moment's pause she simply turned away, leaving him to his departure.

"Dead-walkers," she explained with a wave of her hand, trying to find the right words. "Draugr."

There were only a couple of patrons lingering about the establishment tonight, but every movement and sound seemed to keep her on edge. The tenseness between her shoulders was palpable and her silvery eyes watchful and wary.

"They came, after the others were gone," she explained. "From the north."

Turning her head to the side, she looked past Riaze, her nostrils flaring slightly. There was a sharpness to her gaze, an almost predatory intensity as she narrowed her eyes. Turning back to Riaze, the woman's eyes had taken on an amber wolfish hue.

"Gone," Maria remarked. "Something else now," she continued. "Something new."

Her eyes narrowed. "A demon of smoke and ash."

A rudimentary description if there ever was one, but her grasp of the common tongue left her picking her words carefully. "Gone now too, but it will be back."

She was studying Riaze now with narrowed eyes, looking him over with an odd intensity. She even went so far as to move past him, circling him carefully to get a better look at him from a different angle, to appease whatever held her attention.

"We should hunt."

The last time she had offered such an invitation, the evening had been a blood bath, but there was an element of caution to her this time. Gone was the reckless rage of before, and in its place a calculated wariness.

Maria offered no further words as she turned away, making for the doorway without a look back. She was an independent creature by nature, and to invite Riazes' presence at all spoke volumes as to the nature of her encounter with this demon of hers.

"Here," Maria spoke up.

She had led them just beyond the forest border, the tenseness easing from her shoulders as they left the city behind. At the center of the small stretch of wood stood a tree, rotted and decayed in its entirety, though still standing. The withered leaves had begun to fall, blanketing the forest floor. The rot had begun to take to the surrounding foliage, the grass beneath the leaves already withered and dead. For those with a keen eye, the signs of a brief struggle were evident in the furrowed earth and broken twigs.

Maria crouched down, her hand brushing over the furrowed earth. She had been over this region a dozen times over again, without any sign of the strange presence she had encountered. She didn't remember much prior to coming to on the forest floor. She remembered the smoke, the sensation of suffocating, and the icy fear that had gripped her.

She shook her head. She was Úlfhéðnar. Úlfhéðnar knew no fear.

"Yellow eyes," she muttered suddenly. Yellow eyes staring at her from within the depths of the smoke. She rose back to her feet.

It was the tree then that drew her eye, sharp as a hawk, her lips curling back in a grimace of a snarl.

Maria stalked into the bar, casting a wary glance to either side. Her posture was tense, bordering on deffensively aggressive. Her nostrils flared as the stench of the bar hit her, the reak of tobacco, alcohol, blood and sweat. Clad in worn leathers and furs, she had the look of someone who didn't much wander through civilized regions very often.

But tonight the city called to her, a faint nudge in the back of her mind, and a whispering of darker urges that she couldn't quite shake. She shook her head hesitating just inside the establishment. She shouldn't be here, this was not her place.

Maria scowled, looking back to Riaze.

"There is nothing here," she growled lowly, stalking back off into the woods without a word of explanation to the man she had dragged all the way out here.

Maria trudged through the snow, bundled in thick hides and animal furs to ward against the cold. It had been over a month now that the stranger had taken to trailing her through the mountains - a month now that she had deftly evaded his efforts to locate her. Born and raised in the northern reaches of G'ael, the icy mountain peaks provided her a formidable range with which to shake the occasional pursuer, though this one proved more resilient than others past.

The freshly fallen snow left the region glaringly bright under the afternoon sun, and she kept her eyes downcast so as to not blind herself against the pristine white blanket that coated the mountains for miles around. In the distance, the clang of metal reached her ears as it echoed through the mountain passes, a fight perhaps?

Wolfish eyes narrowed as she pulled her furs closer about herself. It was beginning to grow crowded in her mountains. Veering off, Maria changed her route, taking a mountain pass that would carry her well clear of whatever lay over the rocky reaches ahead.

Maria's lips curled back into what could only be described as a snarl, an expression that had no place upon her seemingly human features. Silver eyes were tinged with amber as she trudged on, sparing the second woman not even a second glance.

"Who are you," she bit out as her double matched her pace for pace through the snow.

The freshly fallen slow left Maria's progress slow, even for her.

Maria. The name filled her thoughts as she trudged along. She was Maria, Maria Raghild. She could remember hearing that name in her ears, spoken by Riaze. Their brief time together had stirred memories in her, memories of ages past.

"I am Maria. Maria Raghild, of the Liulfring clan," she growled, her voice thick with her northern accent. "I kill because it is necessary. I kill because I am Ulfheðnar."

It had been many years since the woman had a sense of identity, and she clung to it now. Such a small thing, a name, but it was as much a part of her survival now as the furs that clothed her form.

Maria's wolfish eyes hardened. She could almost smell it, the scent of blood on the air as her pulse quickened. The thrill of the hunt, the stain of fresh blood in the snow as she let the beast fill her, it called to her. In her long years, never had Maria hunted the living for pleasure, but with this voice whispering in her ear, the notion held an intoxicating influence.

She could turn back. She could hunt those who pursued her, hunt those she had passed by only minutes before. The wolfmind was strong within her today and it roiled through her like a caged beast. Why should she not let it out, why should she not give herself over to the ecstasy of the kill. She was a predator, was she not? Why then should she not hunt them. It was a subtle change that was overtaking the woman, this sense of superiority, but some shred of humanity still lingered within her tenuous grasp of self and she did not turn back.

"I am Ulfheðnar," she growled back, "and you are not I. What do you want."

Riaze's eye snapped open, a howl ripping from him as he lunged upwards. Yet when he swept the room, searching for the vampire with a fist of icy fear clenched in his chest. There was no one within with him, a fact that did nothing to slow the booming of his heart. No other noise but the sound of the wind howling outside, the scent of ice and snow in the air. Groaning, Riaze scrambled to his feet.

Looking to the entrance, Riaze flinched at the sight of a figure there. As quickly as surprise came, however it passed. In its place, a furrowing of his brow, for the man could not quite comprehend the sight of who he beheld. "Maria?"

Maria's eyes were narrowed, an anger reflecting in them.

"Why have you come here," she demanded. "You do not belong."

She had always proven elusive and wild, but there was something different to her, something almost dark about the manner in which she held herself, and the predatory gleam within her eyes.

"Pleasure to see you too." The lycan growled under his breath. "I wasn't choosy where I left the shadows, Maria. I'd ask the same of you."

Riaze met her fury levelly, sinking back into his cold remoteness. His clothes were torn and tattered, ichor staining fabric and flesh equally. The mass of scars were bared, his eyepatch lost somewhere back in the dark wood, likely torn off in the wake of the massacre, and his subsequent retreat. Only now were the holes finally closing, yet for all of this the man radiated a sense of life he hadn't in years.

Killing suited him too well, sometimes. "And what do you mean, I don't belong?"

She cast a glance around the cave, watchfully intent on her surroundings. Seemingly satisfied with her survey she turned her eyes back upon Riaze, observing him suspiciously.

"Riaze?" she asked at last, her anger turning to a frown followed by a shake of her head.

"I thought you were another."

She moved inside, snow clinging to her hair and the thick furs that clothed her form. The cave beyond was a haze of white as a blizzard pounded against the mountainside with unrelenting fury.

She sank down to seat herself in the corner, pulling her furs tighter about herself to ward against the cold mountain air. She seemed indifferent to Riaze's presence as she drew her knees close to her chest to conserve heat.

"You should go when the storm breaks."

Her eyes were a glowering swirl of wolfish amber beneath the wild locks of her hair.

Scowling, Riaze looked once more on the wall of white outside of their refuge, narrowing his lone eye. The remnants of his nightmare clung to his psyche, a darkness he could not shake.

Shaking his head, he turned and moved to sit himself down next to Maria. Watching her from the corner of his eye, he studied her for a time in silence. "Who else would be wandering around in that? Not many could long survive winter's fury."

He left her final statement alone for the time being. He had planned on departing to warn the clan of what he'd uncovered, yet he sensed something in the woman that was off. There seemed a skittishness to her, something he had noticed back in the glade of the dead tree. He himself seemed inured to the cold already, scowling anew as he shifted and a large piece of his shirt tore and fluttered to hand off of him.

"What is going on, Maria?"

"The wolf mind," Maria offered in reply to Riaze's inquiries. She didn't spare him a look as he sat beside her, instead keeping her eyes on the cave entrance.

She should have left it there, she had no reason to confide with Riaze, no reason to voice her uncertainties, but neither did she have reason not to.

"It is the strength of the Ulfheðnar," she remarked. "It makes us strong, but never before does it speak."

She shook her head. She had scoured that clearing for hours, and again with Riaze. There had been signs of a struggle, but no tracks but her own led from that clearing. Had the demon been real at all? Her weeks in these mountains had only left her further questioning her sanity, doubting the reality of the things she saw. It was said that the Ulfheðnar all succumb to insanity in time.
