Marion held the 'hotdog' up to her nose and sniffed it. She was from a place called Arcanum, more specifically The City of Gears. They never had street vendors that sold 'hot dogs'. Dogs were such lovely creatures. Marion had no idea why someone would want to eat one. Though, she had to admit, it did smell very good.

Marion gave it another sniff before she gave the vendor man a few copper pence. "Thanks," she murmured before Marion took the first, brave, bite into a cooked dog.

She wasn't disappointed.

The figure of professor Stein sat at one of the vendor stands, actually selling things, it seemed. The professor had really nothing to do recently, between the things going on in this strange 'Multiverse', he was pretty empty handed on things to do. The doctor watched the woman, who was eyeing the food like it may be poisoned, a slight chuckle escaping his lips as he leaned back on his rolling chair slightly, but not enough to make the wheels turn.

Speaking up, Stein tilted his head before gripping the gear on the side of his head, turning it ever so slightly. "Don't worry ma'am, the food isn't poisoned, the vendors know better than to poison their patients...then again, I don't know much better myself, so I can't speak for me...but trust me on the fact they're not contaminated in anyway, shape or form." The vending stand he was at was strange, a bit rundown in look, but surprisingly holding up, not collapsing or anything. It seemed like it was better built than it look. A sign read 'Professor Stein's table of science and oddities' was on his stand, as he rested his head on the backs of his hands, cigarette in his mouth moving up and down as he moved it using his jaw. "You new here, though? I haven't seen anyone like you before."

Poison? There was reason to suspect that food sold here in this city was poisoned? Cheek puffed out like a chipmunk, Marion spit out her hot dog and dropped the rest of it into the trash. "So much for that," the woman said with a roll of her eyes.

"Thanks for ruining my lunch and I don't think I've ever seen someone so dumb. I have two arms, two legs, and two eyes," she said. "I look like a lot of people from around here. What makes you think I'm not from Cloud City?" She had forgotten it was named Wing City.

"I didn't know the people here were so rude or so nosy."

Sighing, the professor shook his head. Well, not like he meant to ruin her lunch. She just looked like she was auspicious of the food..Ah well, her fault, not his. A grin etched on his face at the mention of this being 'Cloud City'. Well, it was true, there was a Cloud City in existence, but she surely would have taken a wrong turn between Wing City and Bespin if that was the case.

Yawning, he sighed, continuing to turn the gear on his head. "Well, lady. I figured since you were so suspicious about the food, that I might as well deny any suspicion you had about it. Also, you obviously aren't from here if you can't even remember the name of the city...unless you're plain stupid, but, I doubt that. So many people are smarter these days, it's hard to find stupidity. Though, they come up here and there....as for people here being rude and nosy? No, that's just me. It's a scientists job, you know? Poke around, find what makes things Tick? Then again, I much prefer slicing things open rather than observing them on the outside.." Leaning back a bit too much, Stein found himself toppling to the ground, groaning a bit as he picked the chair back up, sitting down once more. "Ergh...anyways, you still look like this is your first time around."

"Anyone ever tell you that you talk to much?" Marion asked, folding her arms. She didn't laugh when he fell down. It wasn't funny. Marion was the type of person that did not find too much humor in the world. Who would after they had denounced their aristocracy, joined the Resistance, and then was exiled from her home? Not many, if any at all.

"I don't like people that talk too much," Marion stated in a slightly threatening tone. She raised a hand and started chewing on her grease-stained fingernails.

She had previously not been looking at where she was going the whole time. Her eyes had been clouded over in thought, and as she walked, she had only noticed her own absentmindedness after smashing into someone's legs, falling onto the ground because of it.

The girl was short, and seemed very young, perhaps around nine, though, as she looked up at the woman she had come in contact with, the eyes that would try and latch onto her own seemed much more intelligent than any child's.

"...sorry." she told Marion, scratching the back of her head, allowing the eight-beaded bracelet on her wrist to jangle. She smoothed out her purple polka-dot dress and dusted off her stockings. She did not just walk away, however.

She just stared at Marion.

Marion walked down the street and reached another vender. This one was selling 'Corn Dogs'. The woman tilted her head out of curiosity at that one. Corn Dogs. These Cloud City people sure were an odd bunch and they had an obsession with eating dogs. Just as Marion reached into her pocket to pull out some money to pay the vendor, something bumped into her thigh.

Marion looked down and frowned. She frowned very deeply. It was a child... thing.

"Watch where you're going!" Marion snapped at her, shooing the child-thing away with her fingers. "Shoo!"

Lifting her chin up into the air, the small girl planted her hands sassily onto her hips. "I apologized, didn't I?" she replied, an edge to her voice. This little girl, standing up to this powerful-looking woman. "I don't think you should be so rude. It's not like I meant to do it, after all."

She did not shoo, not at all, and only crossed her arms and stood there, looking at the woman.

"I do not care if you apologized or if you did not," Marion said in a hostile tone. "Leave!" The woman stamped her foot on the ground and pointed down the street, or rather, she pointed into rush hour traffic.

"Go on! Go find your mommy and daddy and cry and tell them you met a big, bad, old woman. Shoo!"

"No!"

The girl stood her ground! She stamped her foot just like Marion and scowled at her. "I can do much more than my parents and I'm not afraid of any big, bad, old woman no matter how bad her temper tantrum is!" She huffed at her. Huffed! And popped her hip out as though she did not believe the woman could soccer kick her out of the city within seconds. "I'm going to stand here and stare at you, so NEEH!" She blew a raspberry at her.

"Very well then," Marion said in a cooler voice. She turned up her nose and then turned on her heel. If the child wasn't going away then she was leaving! There was more than one way to be rid of an annoying, snot-nosed, child.

Marion walked down the street and eyed the vendors along the street attempting to sell their products to newcomers. Fried Pickles! the sign said. Marion stopped immediately and bought one. She had no idea what 'fried' was or 'pickles' but Marion was willing to try anything at least once.

"What's the child death rate in this city?" Marion asked the vendor. "Is it high? I hope it's high." The vendor was too shocked to even answer.

The pitter-patter of expensive shoes upon the ground could be easily heard behind Marion. She had followed her. And she was standing right behind her.

"You're not really used to this kind of place, are you?" she asked, lips thinned in a tight line. She had one eyebrow raised. "Either that, or you're just plain rude. It's somewhat amusing, but you'll find it's not really the best way to be in this city."

"No I'm not from-" Marion stopped what she was saying and looked down. And there it was. The child. Marion yelped and threw her fried pickle over her shoulder without meaning to do that.

"You!" she yelled and pointed a finger at the thing. "You owe me a new fried prickle!"

"Uh, pickle," the vendor corrected.

"Not my fault you're a spaz." commented the young girl. Without her consent, a little smiled curled onto her lips. "Fried pickles aren't the best thing anyway! Are you trying to get diabetes? Though I suppose all the weight is going to your tah-tahs. How come your spine isn't broken yet?"

With her fingers clasped behind her back, she let a giggle escape.

Marion blinked several times as if she didn't understand what was being said to her by the girl. The child had a mouth on her but, even though Marion hated kids, she was not about to hit one. Yet, the frustration of being followed was growing to be too much.

"If I buy you something, will you kindly shut up!"

"Maybe." she taunted, scratching the back of her ankle with her opposite foot. "And maybe not. You'll have to deal with those chances."

A very good way to of gotten rid of the child would have been to be very polite and boring, but Nikka had a feeling that wasn't about to happen, which made this all the more exciting.

"What's your name?"

The woman gritted her teeth as if it pained her to give any information about herself to the child. "Marion," she said. Walking a bit further down, Marion had spotted another vendor that sold chewy, decorated, caramel apples. Now that was something Marion recognized. Kids always loved sugary treats.

Marion bought one, dribbling with thick, sweet, caramel. She shoved it towards the kid and said, "Eat it."

Now it was Nikka's turn to stand and blink several times. A part of her really didn't want to take it.

The other part of her really, really did.

Her eyes darted from the apple to Marion, then back, several times before she finally reached out and took it, biting into the treat with vicious greed.

Those large eyes darted back up to Marion again. Her mouth was full, but the look certainly had a thanks in it.

Marion sighed in sheer relief. The caramel apple seemed to do the trick. The child wasn't talking anymore. The situation made Marion think that children weren't so bad if they weren't talking until their mouths fell off.

Marion nodded her head in approval and paid the vendor a small fee.
