Mark, the Unremarkable

Do I know you from somewhere..?

0 · 591 views · located in Wing City Gardens (East)

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Jerico Do'Lantul

Description

Standing at about 5'10", he is of average height. Everything about him seems remarkably unremarkable, to the point where one might question whether or not he was a person, at all..
As of the Lt. "Ironhand" Straken character arc, he has changed his appearence. He now wears his hair shorter, and wears more rugged, military-style clothing.

Personality

Real name Mark Sellers, but rarely, if ever, uses this name. Instead, he goes by a variety of fake names, sometimes using as many as three in a single outing. In spite of all appearences, Mark carries with him a dark secret that only a few in the entire multiverse know; Mark is an assassin. One of the best, in reality, in the fact that he has never been caught in all of his many years of activity. This may be due, in part, to the fact that Mark posseses a special ability unlike any other; the ability to, for lack of a better term, be unremarkable. For reasons unknown, Mark's face is just the perfect ballence between handsome, enough so that people will trust him, and generic, to the point that one will never be able to place his name with his face. This goes beyond an ordinary play on the fickle minds of sentient beings, however. It doesn't matter if you're the most intelligent, memory-bound individual in the entire multiverse. You will never remember Mark's face. Even within moments of losing sight of Mark, many have reported being unable to pick him out of the crowd.Even in pictures, Mark will be unrecogniseable. In a side-by-side comparrison, it MAY be possible to identify him, but this would be a stretch. It is highly suspected that Mark has some innate ability to make his face change, over time, enough to where one would never know it was him. This is a fallacy. In truth, it is the person's mind, itself, which plays tricks. The contours of his face trigger no residual memories to be stored in one's brain, meaning that no memories will be triggered by simply seeing his face. The only way that one is able to remember Mark is if he reminds them of the name he gave them.

An example is the only way to aptly explain.

Suppose Mark comes across and attractive woman. They strike up a conversation, in which Mark introduces himself as "Steven". One he and the woman part ways, all memories of Mark's face will leave her mind, and she will, ultimately, forget him. Now, let's say they meet, again, the next day. The woman's brain will struggle to place Mark's face with past events, but, because Mark's face doesn't trigger residual memories, she will fail to remember him or anything they shared the previous day. However, if Mark reminds her of the name that he gave the previous day, "Steven", her mind will be able to compensate from having no memory of his face and will, instead, work off of the name. Only through this method are people able to remember Mark.

There is, however, one exception.

If Mark were to, for whatever reason, give one his true name, this ability becomes moot. Knowing Mark's true name makes one able to remember Mark's face, because he is being genuine, for a change. Once he had given his true name, he will be fully open and honest with that person, to whatever end. Even after Mark leaves, his face will remain in that person's memories. There is no going back from this, once it has been set into motion. As of yet, only four people have ever known Mark's true name. His parents, sister, and his employer. His parents are dead, and his sister's whereabouts remain unknown. His employer, name unknown, works descretely as he commands thousands of assassins all across the multiverse.

Equipment

Image
Carries a Sig Sauer 226 at all times, but will not use it unless absolutely neccesary. Ussually tucked into the back of his pants, though he will, occasionally, wear a holster on his leg. This will, usually, only be when on the job.

NOTE: As a result of several run-in's with men and women of the vampiric persuasion, he has seen fit to carry custom-made silver bullets on his person, at all times. The base and tips of these rounds are standard lead composition, but the outermost layer is silver, which is enough to cause great harm to most any vampire.

Image
A hidden blade is worn beneath the sleeve of his left arm.

NOTE: as a result of several run-in's with men and women of the vampiric persuasion, he has added silver engravings to the flat sides of the blade. Though the edges are still hardened steel, once the blade enters a vampires body, so too, will the silver, which will serve to cause great damage to most any vampire.

Image
Small, balenced throwing knives, usually worn strapped around his chest. Accessible by unbuttoning one of the middle buttons of his shirt. Not visible from without.

Image
Flies a ship know as The Resonance. It is a long-range fighter modified to withstand Slipspace travel. It's cargo bay was filled with the core needed to power the Slipspace Drivers, making it rather heavy and cumbersome. It is primarily used as a means of travel, and not as an actuall fighter, as it was originally intended. Seats two people, the pilot and the gunner/bomber, though there is never a payload onboard, any longer.

History

Not much is known of Mark Sellers. Everything one might glean from a conversation with him has been forgotten mere moments later. it is common knowledge, however, that he works for a man who command several thousand assassins all across the Multiverse. It is said that he has sent one of his best to Wing City to complete an unknown task. Mark Sellers is that man, and will stop at nothing untill his task is complete.

So begins...

Mark, the Unremarkable enters through the front entrance, opening the door silently and closing it behind him. His eyes travel between the two already present. Neither was him. Ah well, no reason not stay for a while.. Mark makes his way casually towards the counter, flopping unceremoniously in a seat near to the other two, though not directly adjacent. He reaches over the counter to grab an electronic menu and pretended to peruse the items on it.

Mark, the Unremarkable orders a light ale as he cintinues to listen in on the pair nearby. Vampires. Nothing new, there. Honestly, for a race that was supposed to be a secluded, secretive people, vampires always spoke the loudest, and caused the most problems. Not to mention they were, often times, the most annoying.. As an androib brought him his drink, he kindly thanked the machine before taking a small sip of the ale. It wasn't the best. In truth, he prefered whiskey, but had learned, long ago, that whiskey was a more uncommon choice. This, in turn, could cause his cover to be blown, should someone notice him drinking it, again. Best to play it safe.

Mark, the Unremarkable took another sip of his ale. What a pair of freaks. They were obviously from different worlds, as they obeyed differing rules of vampirism. In some worlds, it was quite normal to drink from another vampire, though it wasn't very nourishing, as opposed to drinking from a human or even from an animal. And still, in other worlds, drinking vampire blood was deadly to other vampires. With all of the different rules that one must abide by, it was a wonder how any vampires from other worlds got along.

Mark, the Unremarkable turns his head, slightly, to glance at the man who had just entered. And just who was this? After a brief moment, he returns to his drink, doing his best not to draw attention to himself. There wasn't a whole lot for Mark to glean from the man, other than he liked his steak raw. Probably another freak, like the other two. Typical. He takes another drink. His glass was not even halfway drained. He does take note, however, of the little one's supposed criminal record.

Mark, the Unremarkable did his best not to pinch the bridge of his nose between thumb and forefinger. It was almost too much to bear. He had half a mind to walk out of the bar, at that moment, only he could miss out on gleaning much-needed information on the surrounding areas, and perhaps, if he was luck, information on his target.

Mark, the Unremarkable chances a sidelong glance at Parson. The boy was clearly mental. Whether that was due to his turning or to those "pills" he spoke of was unclear. It was possible, however, that the pills had been the only thing that had kept him sane. Without them, his unballenced nature was spilling over into his behavior. He, personally, didn't believe in pills whose very design was to inhibit one from being themselves. But, in some very rare cases, the alternative was far too dangerous.

Mark, the Unremarkable had already returned to his drink, paying no mind to Parson's glance, though he didn't much care for the boy's tone. He takes another sip of his ale and remains silent.

Mark, the Unremarkable pauses as he holds his glass up midway to his lips. He wasn't being serious.. was he? Mark calmly places the still half-full glass down on the table before turning to face Parson. To the surprise of the room, his face would be rather warm and friendly, a smile present upon his lips as he speaks smoothly and evenly. "Oh come, now. You wouldn't want to eat me. I'm afraid I'd be no flavor. All tough flesh and bone, you see. Not very tastey at all."

Mark, the Unremarkable plays on the turn of conversation in an attempt to get Parson distracted. "Is that so? Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. You don't like the idea of being a gentleman? It has it's perks, you know." He smiles warmly. He would have to do his best to keep this situation from spiraling out of control. If it could be avoided, he would rather not kill anyone, today.

Mark, the Unremarkable 's smile was gone, now. He was quickly growning tired of this. He spoke plainly. "No.. perhaps it would be better if you asked someone else." All the while, he keeps Oliver in the corner of his eye. There would be no holding him down.

Mark, the Unremarkable turns his attentions to the newcomer as Parson seems to leave the bar in a huff. Another fucking vampire. Wonderful. He glances over at Oliver, but says nothing. He had come close to killing the both of them, and this man had regarded it as a game. How unaware he was at just how fortunate he was, this day.

Mark, the Unremarkable slides his glass away from him as he moves to rise from his seat. It was clear that he would find no valuable information, here, regarding his target, Lt. Straken.. Without a second look at anyone present, he would make his way to the front entrance. Unknown to the other patrons, this would be the last they saw of him. At least, this would be the last time they would remember his actions, here. No sooner than he would leave, then his face would be forgotten by them, as well as everything he had done, in their presence. This is through no fault of their own.. he was, quite simply, that unremarkable.(For details, see character profile.)

Mark, the Unremarkable enters through the front entrance, barely making a sound as he closes the door behind him. His eyes quickly scan the many patrons of Gambit's, several of which were dressed alike. None of them were his target. Sighing to himself, Mark heads towards the bar counter, where he sits, alone, away from Charles as he pretends to peruse the menu.

Mark, the Unremarkable quietly orders a light ale. As the android who was working the counter brought it to him, he would raise the glass up to his lips to take a small sip. It wasn't all that great. In truth, he prefered a good whiskey, but ordering one was less than common, especially during the middle of the day. Keeping a low profile was key, and if he was caught ordering something such as a whiskey twice in a row, someone could uncover his identity. One of them, anyway. He continues to sit quietly, listening intently to everything around him in order to glean as much information as possible pertaining to the surrounding area, as well as anything regarding his target.

Mark, the Unremarkable listens in on the soldier's banter. It was clear that they had been around one another for a time, and had even seen combat, together. It also became abundantly clear that they had only recently arrived in Wing City, as he had. So far as he knew, however, there were no "reliable local powers" that he knew of. Justice was upheld by renegade peacekeepers, the citizens of the town, and the occasional rogue military faction. He would say none of this, though, as he simply returns to his drink, taking another small sip.
The woman, Val, chose to preocupy herself in aiding the lone soldier who seemed to be having trouble paying for the soldiers' refreshments. She seemed well-meaning, though this could be a ruse in order to get whet she desired.. whatever that was. Mark wouldn't get involved, in either case.

Mark, the Unremarkable turns his head as Jenna slumps into a chair next to him. She was certainly a wreck. Wait, did she just order a soda? What was she, fifteen? Mark puts on his usual friendly facade as he smiles pleasantly, his voice smooth and calming. "Why hello, there. Is everything alright? You seem rather.. disheveled, if you'll pardon my saying so."

Mark, the Unremarkable half turns his head to keep an eye on the engagement between Cryoface and Erico. It made absolutely no difference to him what transpired between them, but he didn't like it when soldiers with weapons spoke so loudly, at his back. T'was a good way to go about catching a stray shot to the back of the head.

Mark tilt his head to one side, more a way for him to better view what was going on, elsewhere than a show of interest or curiosity. "You don't say. Well, I would love to hear more about it, if you're willing to talk about it." Followed closely by a bullet to the brain.

Well, unfortunately, I have to get going. As an OOC note, your characters will not be able to recognise Mark, should they ever see him, again. The reason for this is explained in his character profile, if you care to take a look. Take care, everyone. It's been a pleasure.

Mark, the Unremarkable 's writer decides to make one last post, actually. His smile fades as he looks where the woman indicates. Nothing. Mark had no magical tendencies, so he was unable to see Jenna's shadow. Nonetheless, he believed he knew of what he spoke. This could be bad, for her. In spite of his better judgement, he sighs, leaning forward, close to her as he whispers. "My name.. is Mark Sellers. Never share that information with anyone, or I will kill you.. I know what haunts you.. and I may be able to help. I will seek you out, one day, soon. Take care.."
