Some time later...

"FTL jump complete, we have arrived in the Cryo system, IFF handshake confirmed... I've detected multiple debris fields, and distress signals, I'm parsing them now." EVE chirped.

Marlene frowned. "I need Tolend to release his psychic block so I can communicate with the Tarragon." Marlene asked, as the Scylla slipped through the void of space.

Commander Jarlath was instructed at once to transmit all data pertaining to the engagement to the Scylla, which he did so while coordinating rescue efforts with the damaged Command Carrier.

"As heavily defended Baleon Orta is... sending anything would indeed be suicide... but would they destroy a ship that they thought you were aboard?" Marlene asked aloud, her thoughts ringing in Halena's head.

Halena closed her eyes, sat down cross legged and proceeded to think.

She did this abruptly and suddenly, so much so that even Tolend was curious about it.

Though to be fair to Halena, she had a very good reason for needing to properly start thinking. Several very good reasons actually. First and foremost was her concern regarding the Potentia. Regardless of what Marlene said, Halena could not unseat the deep unease regarding that device. It's very existence was troubling, the ability to rewrite all existence was something that absolutely should not exist in this universe.

At least she thought so. Such power should at the very least not belong to a single individual. The ability to decide the fates of a literal infinite number of individuals was absolutely not something that any one nation should hold. A long standing lesson taught to all asylian children is that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The only defense against such corruption is a combination of understanding and compassion. If she had her way, she would see to the dismantling of the device and the destruction of it's parts. It does not need to exist, and it's destruction was a new goal for her, though one she would have to set aside in light of more concerning events.

Another of her reasons for having to stop and think was the apparent permanent connection she now had with Marlene. She wasn't entirely sure what had caused it, and it wasn't unwelcome. Having someone she could speak with without having to wait for sound waves to reach their ears and be processed was an absolute blessing for the child who had essentially been starved of the social interaction that was such an intrinsic part of her culture.

However, it also made her aware via Marlene's Display of power that there were definite gaps her the older womans capabilities to see events. The sheer amount of information present from peering at infinite timeline and potential outcomes was staggering. This line of thought immediately led her to considerations for cooperation with the precog, perhaps utilizing Halena's ability to parse such information would allow for more accurate and sure predictions and event planning.

Her thoughts changed in a flicker and she said aloud "Tolend, it's fine. Marlene, how sure are you of your ability to predict future events? Also, if you send a ship to Baleon Orta they won't have to destroy it, they can capture intact while simultaneously incapacitating it's entire crew in less time than it takes for you to think."

Marlene nodded slightly, and began to reach out to Agarran on the planet below, so the three of them could commune within a shared mindspace. Marlene wanted to seek the advice of the ancient creature on how to proceed, as this was the first time the half-ascendant was unsure of herself. There were so many different realities, so many wildly varying possibilities, both Halena's thoughts, and Marlene's own perception flashed across her consciousness like bolts of lightning disrupting a radio transmission. Marlene didn't know if the ascendant knowledge she imparted on Halena was rewriting her brain.

Marlene was wondering why the psychokinetic link didn't end when she ended the memory transfer. Asylian biology with ascendant knowledge was uncharted territory, but two minds worked better than one. Marlene was in an almost mental consensus with allowing Halena to parse the information as Marlene could perceive it. It allowed Marlene to focus on the here and now, to plan strategically the best course of action.

"I want to send an unmanned Reverence S, with the psychic signatures of this ship, and it's crew. Including the two of us. It'll be there just long enough to get some telemetry as to what we're facing. They'll capture the ship, and it will self destruct. No one will be aboard the vessel."

She turned to Halena, with Tolend no longer blocking their psychic signals, Marlene had to hope that Agarran would pick up the mental hail quick enough, and they could depart before the Asylians could respond. Raising her own mental barrier against Scrying, and the prying eyes of anything left behind by the Unglauss, Marlene reached out to Agarran.

"I need your help."

The first response Marlene would feel from Agarran was a mixture of emotions. Fear was present, but it was minor compared to the concern and frustration that was placed beside it. The creature himself then responded with Ahh yes, Marlene Angel I presume? Your a very interesting person, though I admit I did not think I would ever get the chance to meet with you. His mind rumbles with displeasure. Unfortunately, circumstances have made such a meeting unwelcome. Regardless, how may I assist. I've already given Commander Jarlath my observations, and my kithid are preparing for wartime operations. It will take a few weeks before the hatcheries have produced a deployable force..."

Agarran himself took form in their shared mindspace, smaller than his actual stature, a blessing considering his wingspan. Standing about the size of a small horse, Agarran turned to Halena, seeing her sitting crosslegged and being able to feel her mind working at such blinding speeds.

He'd turn with a raised brow at Marlene. "I'm going to assume that the assistance you need has something to do with her?" He'd say.

Halena, for her own part flicks a thought towards him. "I am Princess Halena Auroran Vassari Asylia, Daughter to King Galadaius Eroque Tanno Asylia, Heir to the throne, et cetera. I'm here to stop the senseless murder and destruction that will be brought about if my people set to engage the Aschen Empire. Originally I had believed that said destruction would be one sided, and my concern was to prevent genocide." Her thoughts reddened with mild irritation that she flicked at Marlene as she said "Ignorance truly is bliss."

She then said "I need to clarify exactly what I mean when I say they could instantly capture the ship. I mean that they could effectively freeze it in it's entirety, to the point where you would not be able to initiate a self destruct, because the individual atoms that make up the ship would be frozen."

She then proceeds to dump a light load of knowledge on Marlene, showing her images and memories of her past when her father taught her about the Void Sea, it's creation, and what the Asylian Guild of Sorcery learned since then. The sorcerers who enacted the creation of the void sea, though we still have not determined exactly how they managed to make it self sustaining, have left us with plenty of lessons that allow us to replicate the feat on a smaller scale. Thanks to this, Asylia has a powerful trump card that no other known force in the universe has. Her fathers voice says to her, kind and soothing, with an unexpected depth that makes him sound wise and powerful, but also kind and loving as a father should be. Needless to say, it's a very warm and happy memory.

She's silent for a moment as the memory fades before stating. "It's important to note that that Trump card is only one of many, not all of which I am aware of. But for Telemetry gathering, your plan is a good one, just don't be surprised when the ship you send is captured and subsequently dismantled for studying.... Actually you might be best served with the bare minimum technology necessary to run a scan and then relay the information back. The less Asylia learns of your ships computer systems or defenses the better."

Agarran looked between Halena and Marlene, then settled to wait for the latter to inform him what she needed of him.

Marlene nodded in agreement. "A civilian ship, or even a Taiyou ship, fitted with the bare minimum for telemetry gathering, something that they won't learn much from studying..." Marlene nodded. "I'll have us set the plan in motion when we return to Langara."

She turned her mental attention to Agarran. "I have two things to ask of you. I need help with developing a viable countermeasure to Asylian magic, weapons, and defenses. I don't know how much you managed to learn from your observations outside what was included in your report to Commander Jarlath, but we're not out of the woods yet. The second thing is I may need you to help me hide the Princess. I have a few more errands to run with her, and I want to make another video to goad the Asylians. But I know that your ships can exit phase, and become intangible.

"I'll need you to hide the Princess, if I sense the Asylians are getting too close."

Agarran sat back on his haunches and contemplated. "The Asylian's magic is concerning. Generally speaking, most individuals who use magic have to have a connection to one or more of the primal forces that shaped this universe. The stronger the connection the more specific their abilities. Most individuals have to study for years and then form that connection through a great struggle of training and hardship. It's very rare that individuals are born with an innate connection to one of the primal forces."

"However, what I was able to glean from the Asylians as that this connection is an innate feature of their biology. Their nerve systems produce enormous amounts of electromagnetic radiation, that they are able to manipulate and control, training to increase their control to the point of manipulating the various interactions between electromagnetic radiation and the other primal forces."

"This essentially means that every Asylian is capable of some degree of magic and telekinesis at the very least. Considering their intelligence, I doubt their military wouldn't make this a focus of training, which likely means that their military forces are considerably powerful when it comes to metaphysical ability."

"The difficult part is that, because of that very intelligence, they've probably been working on measures to counteract standard anti-magic weaponry and countermeasures. Most of these countermeasures rely on disrupting the connection to the primal force by using a surge in dark energy, caused by whatever method the countermeasure utilizes."

"However, this method won't be viable against the Asylians. The Asylians can produce the energy that they manipulate to work their spells, which means disrupting it won't be effective against them. It will weaken their spells, but it won't stop them being able to use them."

"Their weaponry is another concern. What I witnessed was a mastery of electromagnetism and gravitational effects. They only used one form of direct combat against us, a particle cannon that, in a single volley, stripped a command carrier of it's primary shielding. After that, the only attacks we actually saw used consisted primarily of defensive measures, some form of antimatter minefield, and a strange gravitational effect that redirected the aforementioned command carriers own barrage back at it. The end result..." He pauses and gestures at the wreckage of the Athos.

"And then there's the matter of the ship itself. I'm not entirely sure what it's made of, but they were some how converting the energy resulting from them impacting the Aegis field and using that to increase their drive force. No shielding, but from what I saw the ship didn't need it, the hull, whatever it's made from, didn't even scuff from the amount of energy being built up."

"In short, ma'am... The task you ask of me is quite a large one. And that's all with just the one ship we saw, just as the Aschen have multiple classes of ship, so we must assume they will as well. Simply put, we need more intelligence. Your plan to scout them out is probably the first step in the right direction. If it's possible, any debris or wreckage we can recover from one of them would be invaluable in study. We're already working to recover whatever we can and identify it."

"As for the princess, I have a few ideas. My colony is using an old tried and tested method for defending our hatcheries. They are kept in their own seperated pockets of space and time. Even if the Asylians have the power to see into the future, they won't be able to see into the Hatcheries. She can be hidden there and none save those you desire to know it would be able to find her."

"I read the report." Marlene replied. "It was able to strip the primary shielding of a command carrier, that is most concerning, because from what I understand, the Command Carrier uses the latest, most advanced forms of shielding available to us, technically, that Command Carrier should have been able to shrug off that attack."

The Image of the drifting Command Carrier flickered to life in the shared mind space.

"We recovered some debris from their encounter at Molecay, I can arrange for the Materials Sciences division to have samples sent to you for study, the more minds we focus on this effort, the better."

Marlene stroked her chin in thought, and then nodded. "I have a few more errands to run with the Princess, and then we can keep her here, until the situation has resolved."

Marlene turned to Halena, and pondered for a moment.

"I want to set a trap, would you be comfortable being the bait?"

Halena doesn't seem to hear Marlene, her eyes strangely out of focus, yet she is clearly intently observing something.

The something in question is a void, an empty white space in the otherwise consistent flow of timelines she has been receiving from Marlene since their connection was made. The longer she observes this whiteout event, the larger it becomes, slowly but inexorably expanding and crossing over multiple timelines and events. It still remains a miniscule thing, but it's growth is steady and consistent. And it concerns her greatly, when one considers the possibilities it could mean.

"It's as if some event is causing a singularity across all possibilities..." She mutters to herself, nearly entranced by her observations.

Agarran eyes the child curiously, then turns back to Marlene. "I'll have my kithid begin preparations to receive the samples. The moment I have something you can utilize, I'll report to you directly, if it please you."

With that said, the Escion fades from the mindspace, and returns to his works.

Set course to Rhynosa, captain. Let's keep this one on the sly.
he called out, laying the papers he was reviewing onto the wooden desk before him. It was crucial that they met with the delegation on-time, as after a long series of negotiations with the artifact hunter, it was clear there would be other buyers.

Aeolia pushed the spectacles back up on his nose and returned to work as the ship accelerated deeper into the system.

Marlene nodded to Agarran. "Very well."

"A Singularity across multiple realities?" Marlene asked, tilting her head as the mind space began to dissolve.

They were now back aboard the Scylla proper, but Marlene was puzzled in the fact that she was unable to break the link between herself, and Halena. The sickening sensation washed over them as the Scylla prepared to execute an FTL Jump, promptly winking out of the Cryo System, on course for Langara.

Winking into existence, the Scylla appeared in high orbit over Langara, for a moment, Aschen Defenses moved swiftly to engage, but after a brief IFF Exchange, the Scylla was recognized, and allowed to proceed towards the planet.

"We've reached Langara... Tell me... What is it that you're seeing?" Marlene asked, cantering her head. The strange blankness across realities had the older woman concerned.

With a tilt of her head, Halena pulled Marlene into a place like a frozen painting.

She pointed, and Marlene would be able to see a frozen world with a very dire scene. Aschen soldiers, basic infantry and enhanced soldiers alike, fighting against a force of Asylian troops swarming through a gateway torn into the very heart of Langara.

The frozen forces from asylia were marked, bearing an icon Halena identified as Ilia Thauce's Personal crest, the implications of which were obvious.

However, even as they studied the scene, it would fade into a white haze, like a static filtering that slowly broke it apart.

Opening her eyes, Halena looked to Marlene. "The first few instances I came across it I was trying to find specifics on the fates of those holding the keys to the Potentia. Specifically i wanted to be sure there were no instances of them being caught by Ilia. However, shortly after I began following a thread where one seemed to be at risk, I ran into this mess" She gestures vaguely.

After a few moments. "The potentia is to blame, I think it's significantly more powerful than anyone assumes. remaking the galaxy to be as one wants to be? In order to do that, you'd have to change how things were. And the mere existence of this device is already effecting reality."

Marlene frowned. "This device is millions of years old, it was constructed by the Ancients before the dawn of man, back when Langara was little more than an Ancient outpost that was part of the Potentia Array."

Marlene surveyed the scenario grimly, before she focused her mind, pulling the mind-space away from the vision of the Asylian soldiers pouring through the gateway.

"This is Illia Thauce's forces, do the Asylian Armies go for the throat in this reality?" Marlene focused, taking them to a circular room, scrying as best as she could into this reality. She took them to a large circular room, where there were five people bathed in light, they were inserting small crystalline keys into the large circular pedestal that they were all standing around. Marlene, Chairman Inviere, Minister Chaska, Emperor Prince, and Admiral Nagala were all standing around the table.

Marlene tried to scry another reality, with foggy, but similar results.

"How does Illia learn of the Potentia's existence?" Marlene asked, as the vision broke apart and faded into nothingness "There's more than one Potentia, it's in fact an array, Illia wouldn't have found this from Aschen sources, does she discover one of the other installations?" This vision brought about more questions than answers.

"That's the part that concerns me. I cannot FIND the event across any timeline. And while this is just an estimation on my part, the fact that every possibility where she leads her forces after the array appears to be the origin point of this singularity, it's very likely that it stems from the very fact that she discovers it in the first place."

Halena frowns, eyes closed as she thinks. "Ilia is no fool. She may not be as intelligent as I am but she's still Asylian, and thus very capable of processing multiple possible events and scenarios and thus picking a course that best suits her. To this end, if the potentia is capable of rewriting the very fabric of time and allowing one to rewrite possibility, Ilia would definitely use that capability to ensure her victory by rewriting every possible chance of her failure to discover or activate the potentia in some way to ensure that she would find and therefore discover it."

"Which means that, in all likelihood this white out event is caused by Ilia's discovery of the potentia, and her subsequent employment of it to ensure an absolute victory." Halena finishes and looks over at Admiral Nagala before saying. "That individual commands a ship, does he not?"

She then peers through the various timelines and possibilities Marlene's powers grant her access to, and seizes upon one particular event. The mindspace is an empty void of whiteness, a result of the singularity. "Scanning through all possibilities, there is one specific event that does not exist, Admiral Nagala's Capture. If we presume this whiteout to be a result of Ilia's use of the Potentia, then we should also assume that the reason there is no event of Admiral Nagala's capture, that it is because it is the origin point of the discovery, and therefore has been erased already."

"... And that's when the decision was made to Hold them." Marlene explained as she came down from one of the jetways that lead to the Intelligence wing of the Spaceport. The neon billboards, and flickering holographic screens of Caprica City cast a soft, multicolored glow on Marlene, and Halena as they moved across the spaceport tarmac to the Cobalt Glaive. Two Shore Patrol agents, in their verdant hunter green uniforms, with the words SP on black, and white armbands were already in position near the airlock.

"I want to verify Ex Langara permits, and meet this Mr. Falcor himself so that I may hear what he has to say, and challenge him." Marlene said, moving ever closer to the ship.

During their trip to Caprica, Halena had been provided with a change of clothes, Marlene had given her, her daughter Teyla's childhood clothes, to help her blend in with the Aschen population. They moved under cover of darkness, during surveillance blackouts, and EVE conveniently not keeping tabs of their presence. Marlene had taken measures to keep their presence concealed, and it would be soon time to depart, for another random location aboard the Scylla.

The two Shore Patrol officers saluted, offering a crisp 'Ad Victoriam' to Marlene and her Charges, before standing aside to allow them aboard the ship.

Marlene stepped through to board the ship pausing only long enough to make sure Halena was behind her, of course she would be, Marlene could feel her presence in her mind.

"You know..." Rei started to say but by the time she turned to speak to Ean he was gone, vanishing somewhere back into the bowels of the ship. Crew physicals made absolutely no sense to her, as most were more interested in spending less time in dock and more time in space. It was how money was made, won, and lost. Planet side or dock time was only for necessary repairs,

"Oh for fucks sake..." She muttered under her breath as she tried to remember where exactly the med bay was. Rei would have greatly preferred to have them slip from the ship's moorings and leave Langara far behind. But from the urgency of which Ean had been addressed by one of her yet unnamed new crew mates, it seemed like the Aschen had better ideas. That alone gave her cause for concern and second thoughts. She couldn't help it, there was something about the Aschen and Langara that set her on edge, and try as she might she couldn't shake that feeling of unease.

Finding a empty bunk, Rei dropped what few things she had there and headed to go find the med bay. The bunk had looked unoccupied, but if it wasn't she supposed she would just apologize to the owner later. It was better than starting everything off on an even worse foot that they already were with what was starting to look like a delayed launch and manifest inspection; two things she was no stranger to, and given Ean's initial remarks, they should have been able to go once pre-flight and other checks had been completed by the co-pilot.

Docking Collar

"Ya know, it's considered uncultured to board a man's ship before the captain gives the go ahead." Ean said, intercepting Marlene and Halena at the Docking collar, his face all smiles. "Especially considering I didn't even have time to prepare refreshments for two fine ladies such as yourselves"

Halena, for her own part tilted her head in sudden and strong curiosity at Ean, so much so it would radiate across the link to Marlene, that same ravenous hunger that so terrified Tolend earlier. He has no presence. Across the entirety of the information present from your abilities, I don't see him. It's not just the white out either, he's simply not present at all. By all logic, he shouldn't exist... What is he? I need to study him... Don't let him leave.

Cockpit

A crewman found Rei and immediatly accosted her. "Your the new pilot right? C'mon, we need to get to the cockpit and get ready to launch now." He said, directing Rei forward "Captain's got that funny feeling again."

Immediately after arrival, the man sits in the copilot chair and starts bringing systems up and online. "C'mon hurry! Every time the captain gets a funny feeling, we all end up in a fire fight."

He then pulls a headset and sets it on his ear. "Feidlimid, you better get loaded up, Captains got that funny feeling again."

Marlene narrowed her eyes slightly at the Captain. "I'm Director Marlene Angel, I'm the head of Imperial Intelligence." She cast a brief glance to Halena, sensing the thoughts as they radiated across her connection to the Asylian, before she turned back to the Captain.

"I have a few formalities to iron out before we clear your ship for launch." Marlene said, narrowing her eyes. "It shouldn't take long, I just need to check a few things, and ask you a few questions to summarize the report given to me by my subordinates." Marlene said, softening into a smile.

"I also wouldn't launch without clearance, Captain." Marlene said, as possibilities began to flood her perception, and consequently Halena's mind, like a tidal wave of cosmic data, she allowed the Asylian's mind to parse potential outcomes, and send them back. The first true test of the duo's mental capabilities.

"Orbital Defense will vaporize this tub before it hits the stratosphere." She said, nodding.

She then gestured into the ship.

"Shall we?"

Feidlimid floated within a bridge control pod its internal life support systems using its own native profile. Mostly ammonia mired him in an atmosphere with a faint green tinge. His sense of the threads of time going forward was still short as he was young yet but didn't like what he saw. When the crewman called Feidlimid over the comms the threads collapsed into a bleeding sore of void.

Feidlimid's voice was almost monotone but with a clack of his forelimbs said in sharp tones, "I will consider it. The captain should know most of the threads I can see from the mech are black. Others soaked in fire and blood. This is the heart of a great beast and it is best I do not step near its mouth. There are threads here... that are better options."

"Woah woah woah! Hands off! Take a girl out before getting handsy!" Rei exclaimed as she found herself being pushed towards the cockpit. Things were getting off to less than wonderful start, and only adding to her anxiety and second thoughts about signing on with Falcor's crew. She would have found her way to the cockpit eventually, but she had assumed she had more time. Normally the Aschen authorities were slow, stupid, and easily fooled. But this time it sounded like it was more serious than she had originally thought.

"Slow down dude, I just got here five minutes ago." She added sliding into the pilot's seat. Taking a quick minute to acclimate herself to the ship's controls, she watched as the Glaive's systems came to life under the instruction of the co-pilot. Life support and navigation were already online, as were a number of other systems, the only thing left it seemed was the engines. "And yeah.. I'm the new kid, what of it?"

Reaching over to grab her own headset, she happened to glance out and down through the glass of the cockpit. Spying Ean talking to someone on the dock she frowned. She could see him and three other persons, one of those three being someone which she had hoped to not see again. "Shit..." Rei muttered now very much inclined to agree with the co-pilot's comment about Ean having a funny feeling. "How quick can you spin those engines to thirty percent and hold them?" She asked the co-pilot her tone much more serious now. There would be no more joking and smart comments from her until later.

If the captain wanted them waiting locked and loaded on the docks, then Rei was happy to oblige. She just didn't look forward to the potential of having to play chicken with Langara's orbital defense platforms. She didn't have the means to fake the correct signal to patch them through. For now though, she would do everything short of taking off, up to and including radioing the control tower.

"Tower, this is the Cobalt Glaive holding on dock 13. Requesting start up for general departure."

The tower cracked it's response over the radio. "Negative, we have an executive hold on your departure, disengage your engines, and await further instructions!" The Voice chimed over the radio.

One of the Tower Crew turned to the other, and shook his head.

"See if you can Vector Commander Tyrus of the Pella to prepare for a possible starside intercept."

The second Tower controller nodded, and keyed up the comms on an encrypted channel, instructing the Evocati class cruiser, Pellas to adjust vector for Caprica City space.

Marlene Angel appeared to be quite visibly agitated, and Halena could sense the strange energies swelling from the blonde, reverberating through space, and time as Marlene narrowed her eyes. The temperature around them began to noticeably drop, there was a minute gravity fluctuation. Both of the Shore Patrol agents at the docking collar began to check their weapons.

"I don't think you understand, Captain. I wasn't asking."

Ean looked up at Marlene and a smile cracked his face like the side of a mountain. In that same Moment, Halena herself shuddered, though not from the energies she felt through Marlene. Rather what had the Asylian in a fit was the timeline she had just come across, in which the entirety of the Aschen world had dissolved like mist in the sun. It happened so quickly that Halena was having trouble isolated the exact moment of it's occurrence, though she had no doubt what the cause was. She eyed Ean and Marlene both, and as she did this, Tolend took a step closer to his charge.

/write at the cockpit of the ship, the copilot was already powering up the ships shield systems, and as per Rei's instructions, he had the engines throttled to only 30%.

Rei scowled and ripped the headset off, "Tell Falcor and anyone else they have 5 minutes or less to get their ass on board, then I'm taking off." She suddenly had an idea of how to get through the planetary defenses surrounding Langara in orbit. It would be risky, and likely Ean wouldn't be terribly pleased, but it would get them out of whatever this imperial entanglment was. "Screw what the tower says, in t minus 5 I want you to throttle to fifty percent output and spool up any auxillary drives if you have them." This was going to take a lot of power, and Rei just hoped that the Cobalt Glaive could handle what she was fixing to throw at it.

The viewing window of Feidlimid's pod slipped open revealing the misty green ammonia atmosphere inside as he interacted with several systems at once using various tentacles. He had a working knowledge of the ship as a more precognitive engineer to see its threads as they moved. The pointed structures on his face gesticulated as he replied to Rei over the comms system in monotone, "If I turn off gravity in favor of inertial dampening I can sustain 4g internal acceleration in ten seconds. The crew should survive. It should run for at least 45 seconds until I have to hard cycle the cooling system to keep us from melting. At which point we need to be supraluminal before heat issues suspend those systems too. There are survivable paths there. Are you lucky?"
