Description

Image

Name: Mataiya Callahan
Age: 21
Gender: Female

Appearance

Mataiya’s hair and eyes are probably the most striking thing of her entire appearance. Her silky and smooth red hair seems to be abnormally straight up until the ends, and then it waves down two inches past her shoulder blades. The sides of her locks trail among her lightly tanned oval shaped face, dropping off past her smiling dimpled cheeks. Her eyes are a feisty fiery red color that stands out against her hair, which lends to the infatuation most men have with her. The medium-long eye lashes curl up, which extenuates the shape of her eyes. Taiya’s athletic figure stands at a minimal five feet, eight inches and despite its thin appearance, is very toned and strong. The only markings she has are two tattoos. Upon her upper right arm, she has a tattoo of a black star. On the lower section of her stomach, she has a tattoo of black roses intermixed with wire in the shape of a heart.

She wears an assortment of spaghetti strapped tanks or wife-beater tanks that rest just above her naval. [Red and black are her favorite] If the occasion calls for it and only if she has to, she will wear a tight fitting dress, which is not frilly. Not one for change, her choice for bottoms range from black hip huggers jeans that are nicely worn in, cargo pants or a black mini-skirt. To complete the outfit, she often wears black feminine combat boots that stop just below her knees or an old pair of tennis shoes. The majority of the time unless it’s really hot outside, she can be seen wearing a long metallic blue jacket that rests a few inches below her knees and has a collar. Mataiya wears a simple black choker that looks more like a belt than anything else. She also has a pair of wire rimmed sunglasses with red lenses along a silver fossil watch, which has a face that glows in the dark. Lastly she carries with her a raggedy old backpack that’s as old as she is, or almost as old.

Disposition: Chaotic neutral

Personality & Mannerisms

Mataiya has been through a lot since her birth and because of her experiences, her attitude and personality has bounced around much like a rubber ball on a tile floor. Overall, she has a stubborn affect and can at times be selfish. Once upon a time, she was a sweet girl and protected the weak. However, the more battles she participated in, the more skewed her perceptions of people became. It didn’t take long for her mood to sour immensely and her temper shortened to the point of wanting to kill someone for interrupting her sleep.

Biography

Arien and Meridian Callahan found Mataiya beneath a tree without anyone else around in the vacinity. Immediately falling in love with the bright-eyed little girl, they adopted her and raised her since they couldn’t have children of their own. On her 6th birthday, they decided to go on a trip. While on the trip, her parents were targeted by an unknown group and slaughtered. The group allowed her to live, figuring she would die since she was alone. She was never adopted but went on to learn from a scrupulous group the ways of the fire. After she was taught all she could learn, she traveled around the world, trying to find her place in it. She mainly kept herself hidden; training in order to advance the powers she was born with. The rest of her history leading up to her twenty-first birthday became nothing more than rumors and myths told by anyone that had a run in with the young female.

Misc Facts

Special Skills: Mataiya has a strange obsession with fires and has learned ways to set them via unnatural ways. She is a pyro-claimer.

Off to the alley that had the fighting going on in, a lithe female was curled up on a pile of flat rocks. Despite how peaceful, albeit uncomfortable she looked; rage seemed to radiate from her form. A light red aura appeared around the area, almost as if it were protecting the unknown woman. Anytime anything neared the area, the shield fluctuated, setting the intruder on fire. Reddish locks covered part of her lightly tanned face and her closed eyes. A black star tattoo was partly visible beneath her long hair as was the red wife-beater she happened to be wearing. Beneath her was a black hooded jacket, cushioning her toned frame ever so slightly. The jacket seemed to bleed into the black hip hugger jeans in addition to her black combat boots. After spending so much time gazing at the fair maiden, one might begin to wonder if she was alive or dead. Giving the state of the current location it was quite easy to believe her to be deceased. However, at the arrival of other forms, more importantly at the sound of the fight, the slender digits upon her right hand began to twitch.

Someone’s here… Someone I can destroy… Someone that might know why I am here… Someone that might know something… Guess I have to wake up. DAMN.

Stretching out the entirety of her athletic 5’8 body, Mataiya slowly opened up her fiery red eyes and glanced around. Leaping off her bedrock bed, the agile twenty-one-year-old shifted her attention towards a building that overlooked the alley, wondering if there was a better view from up there. She couldn’t tell who exactly the others were, and that annoyed her. Snatching the hooded jacket off the rocks, she slid it on, not bothering to zip it up. Between where her tank ended and her pants started was a tattoo of black roses that were intermixed with wire in the shape of a heart. The majority of the tattoo covered her stomach, which was otherwise bare of all other forms of decoration.

Callahan strode towards the fire escape ladder, purpose evident in her gaze. Luck was on her side because it was still in good shape. Climbing up slowly, she made her way to the top of the building. Humming beneath her breath, ‘Taiya was happy when she reached the top and glanced down at the scuffle below. There appeared to be a rather large rock creature in addition to several other beings of some kind. Shots were being fired and the pyro-claimer knew better than to make her presence known. She really wasn’t in the mood to be shot. However, it didn’t take a genius to realize that the golem was innocent in whatever was going on and she decided that if anyone tried to attack it, she would light them on fire. She liked fire; it was pretty.

Fenrias legs catapulted like springs as the Russian lifted his gun as he launched into the wall above their heads, pivoted his boots against the brick, and vaulted into the group. The man pounced on the Russian and attempted to disarm him with a quick strike at his wrist. As he reached for the supposedly disarmed gun, the man attempted to shove the Russian into the wall with unnatural strength. A feral growl rumbled from his throat as he vaulted into a back handspring.

Fenrias landed in a crouch with a black semi-automatic pistol, and possibly the Russian's pistol, gripped in his hands. He narrowed his eyes down the sights and squeezed the triggers.

With their attention focused on trying to kill Fenrias before they ran out of bullets or the police showed up, the Russians didn't see when the Golem grabbed one of their men.

"What the fuck?" The Russian looked down at the Golem, but before he could react he felt the pressure on his leg. Bones cracked and splinted, the pain was unbearable. The thug aimed as his pistol at the Golem's eye, but he couldn't get a shot off by the time he was tossed aside.

It was safe to say that when the police arrived he was going to jail. Who could run from the cops at that point?

When the sirens grew closer the Russian thugs began to retreat, those who had completely used up every magazine they had turning to run down the alley. The others taking shots at Fenrias and the Golem in hopes of doing a little more damage before they saw a jail cell or a coffin.

It was better to take someone with if you had to go.

With some space made near it Midas tried to push itself up, eye sliding into the vertical slot in its head. One of the potshots from the fleeing Russians hit the eye just off center, sending cracks through the golem's vision as the crystal fractured and it slumped back onto the ground with a heavy thud, cracking the concrete on impact.

From there it lay motionless, eerily still as if dead.

It appeared like she got to the scene at the end of whatever scuffle had been going on, but that seemed typical of her luck. She could hear sirens in the background and couldn’t help but snort in disgust. She seriously hated cops and tried to keep away from them due to the rather large rap-sheet she had acquired throughout the years. Still, running away from injured Golem was cowardly and so, with a sigh, Mataiya began her descent back down to the ground, landing in a soft crouch as more shots were fired. Slinking along the wall towards the rock creature, the redhead melded into the shadows thanks to her black cloak and stealthy behavior. Scrunching up her nose as the golem first squeezed one of the opponents legs before tossing him towards a wall, luckily not her wall, Callahan could feel heat radiating from her body. She was prepared to protect herself no matter what was thrown at her.

Instead, her attention was caught off guard when the massive beast dropped down to the ground, the surface shaking with the impact. Had a shot gotten past its rough exterior? She had not a clue, but knew it was worth investigating. Slinking forward, she kept her gaze on the thug that had just gotten tossed like trash. Luckily, the others were moving away from the scene, no doubt because of the cops, so she really only had one figure to focus on other than the fallen rockman. From what she could tell, the golem wasn’t dead, but she wasn’t completely sure of that fact and didn’t really want to be smooshed.

“Hey… hey, you… rock creature dude… you okay?” Mataiya poked a finger at part of his arm, trying to get him to make some kind of movement.

“Hey… the cops are coming… you should probably wake up or something.” Yeah, she was super smooth.

A few rounds pierced Fenrias's flesh in the shoulder and abdomen despite his feral agility. He growled as he popped several of his own rounds into the knees of the fleeing Russians in a hope to slow them down. When the gangsters disappeared into the street, the Good Samaritan leaned against the brick wall and winced. He slumped onto the ground, leaving a streak of blood along the wall, and groaned.

"Oi, lasseh." he called out to the girl with his characteristic Scottish accent. "Is the tin-man alright?"

Fenrias glanced towards the entrance to the alley and the direction of the approaching sirens. He could hear their radios from here. "Jesus Christ..." he grumbled as he tried to stand. "Need t' get out o' here..."

The Russians continued to fire back at Fenrias, a few of them dropping after taking shots to the torso or legs. The rest didn't wait around for their comrades, everyone attempting to flee the alley and get away.

It was then that several squad cars and an NPA armored transport arrived.

"Down! Everyone down!" A police officer shouted, others giving chase to thugs who decided it was better to at least try to run from the police. "We've got wounded. Secure them." An officer ordered, the police officers moving through the alley.

"I need you to show me your hands." A cop told Mataiya, "Make this easy for me." He continued, pointing an officer towards the wound Fenrias and another to the downed Golem.

"Your response time sucks." An injured Russian taunted, in truth it was a decent response time once the police had figured out exactly where to go. The Russians didn't care, they would go out with the last laugh.

Midas didn't move even as it was approached. Truth be told it couldn't. It lay face down in the alley way, its now open chest hidden from sight. It was regenerating, slowly. The progress on its food would be slow and almost imperceptible as its superficial damage was repaired much more quickly.

If one looked closely the nicks and pits from the bullet impacts on its stone skin would slowly begin to disappear. It's cracked eye didn't even move as it lay there. This all banked on no one pulling the crystal out of its now open chest, but with the heavy creature face down on the ground that would be unlikely.

Mataiya didn’t flinch much as shots continued to be fired, noting that the unscrupulous men were not shooting towards her, but towards the other creature. At least that’s how she was going to treat the sounds until something closer to her. The Golem still wasn’t moving, which concerned her immensely, a slight frown evident upon her face. Reaching out to poke him a few more times, she shifted her gaze towards the individual who appeared to be Scottish by the nature of his accent when he finally addressed her. Shrugging a bit, she poked Midas a couple more times, huffing quite loudly.

“I don’t know if he’s okay, mister. He’s not responding to my incessant poking, which is quite concerning. Hey! Stop trying to slink away! You’re in need of medical attention as well. What caused all of this anyways…?”

Before anyone had time to say anything else, a few squad cars appeared and she couldn’t help but bare her teeth towards them. She really hated cops, but this time at least she was innocent in the scuffle. Maybe they hadn’t gotten her rap sheet yet. She could hope, right? Remaining right beside the Golem, she rolled her eyes at the cop that ordered her to show him her hands. Why were they always so bossy? She really wanted to smart off to the man, but figured that wouldn’t be a wise thing to do, especially with the injured Russian mocking the armed officer. Today wasn’t a good day to be shot due to a snarky comment. She returned her attention towards the giant rock creature, sighing.

“You’re not placing me under arrest, officer. Don’t even bother trying either. I’m not budging or anything until I know for sure this chap is going to be fine. He was attacked by those scruffy men and is completely innocent in this whole affair.”

Yeah, she didn’t see what happened, but if he was the attacker, more of the men would be squished on the ground and that just wasn’t the case. What made things even more interesting was the fact that the pieces that had been chipped appeared to be reforming themselves. Was he magic of some sort?

"I'll beh fine..." Fenrias waved off the officer's aid. "I clot quickly... Go check on the big guy or run down those langers that go' aweh!"

Fenrias lifted his shirt and inspected the bloody hole in his gut. The flesh quivered and flexed as the wound slowly but surely began to close. At this rate it would be completely healed within an hour. If the officer complied with Fenrias's dismissal, he would attempt to rise to his feet again.

The man eyed each of the officers and carefully noted their locations and lines of sight. When it was clear none of them were watching him, Fenrias limped towards the shadows and deeper into the alley.

"I'll be back to check on you. Paramedics should be on the way." The officer told Fenrias, the others trying to help Midas to their feet after rounding up the injured thugs.

They'd have a lot to clean up with the few who were dead and the damage the gunshots had caused as far as windows, cars, and doors went on either side of the alley.

Sooner or later there would be that one guy blaming the police for the bullets in his tire or in his iPod containing Russian go-go music.

Around the corner of the Eastern Street, a lithe female was curled up on a pile of flat rocks. Despite how peaceful, albeit uncomfortable she looked; rage seemed to radiate from her form. She couldn’t exactly hear what was going on, but someone was kneeling on the ground and it took her a few minutes to realize it was raining all over her. Had it been pouring earlier? She didn’t really know, but figured it had been, but that didn’t really matter. Shifting her attention back towards the male, Mataiya leaned forward a little more and took note of something in one of the men’s hand seconds before the begging fellow had his head lopped off. Well, part of it, at least. Blinking and absolutely confused, she decided to follow the sword wielding fellow and do some investigation. Heading back towards the fire escape, she shimmied down it and walked onto the street, following behind the only male that was leaving the scene.

What in the heck did I stumble in on…?

Kenji was headed home, to his apartment in the northern part of Eastern Street. His umbrella hung over him like a shadow, rain dancing off the top as it was diverted by the protective material. Kenji stopped at the curb, taking time to light up a cigarette, looking above at the towering archology that surrounded him. It still amazed him that he lived in this sky city, the upper atmosphere surrounding them like an invisible cocoon.

He pressed on, continuing his walk, the splashing beneath his feet ringing in his ears. He passed a few night lurkers in the street; random pedestrians who were either coming home late, going into work early, or just roaming around. He spotted a mugger or two as well, but that was of no consequence.

The night air was refreshing, especially with the rain. He enjoyed the rain, and how clean and crisp it smelled on the concrete beneath him. He took a last drag of his cigarette before exhaling the remaining smoke and tossing the butt aside. Suddenly, he spun around, sword drawn as he scoured the path behind him with his eyes. His cybernetic left eye engaged in thermal scanning, and he detected a very high heat source behind him. Of course, the person's footsteps pacing behind him had given his follower away.

"You've got to the count of three before I start cutting," he began. "One... two..."

Shoving her hands into the pockets of her hooded jacket, Mataiya hummed under her breath. She wasn’t really attempting to be secretive as she followed the male home, though she probably should have at least attempted to be ninja-like. The longer the two walked, the more bored she became and it wasn’t long before the redhead even wondered what she was doing. Removing her hands from the pockets, she pulled the hood up over her head to give her a sense of mystery and ceased humming. Glancing around, she was far too busy looking around to realize her target had stopped moving. She was definitely rusty for this type of business. Quickly coming to a stop, she stepped behind a building, staring around it to watch him smoking his cigarette. When he began walking, she did as well, this time making sure to pay attention more than before.

The longer she walked, the wetter she became, but that didn’t really bother the lithe female. Naw, as soon as she was able to get out of the rain, she would just use her special ability to warm and dry herself back off. For now, she was going to just have to deal with being soaked. Scrunching up her nose when he tossed the butt to the side, she was glad she wasn’t close enough to actually smell the cigarette stench. When he suddenly stopped again, Mataiya slid behind a building, holding her breath to keep from being spotted. When he started counting, she debated whether or not to show herself and figured she really had nothing to lose. There was something about the guy that intrigued her and she figured he might be able to help her. So, after taking a deep breath, she stepped out beneath a nearby light, the hood still pulled far enough to hide her appearance.

“Now, now, no need for such drastic measures.”

Much to Kenji's surprise, he was approached by a young woman. He kept his sword low in his right hand, eyeballing the girl carefully. She didn't appear all-too-impressive, but her heat signatures were rather astounding. He figured her to be a pyrokinetic of some sort, but she didn't appear to be armed with any MagiTech. Of course, this was all of very little consequence to Kenji, who was only focused on one thing at the moment.

"Why are you following me?" he asked sharply. His career as a member of the Kuro Ude had earned him quite a good amount of enemies, and this girl could be another one just like them. It wasn't at all impossible that she was the fiance or daughter or sister of someone he had killed. Her posture didn't appear threatening, but sometimes they didn't; it was a clever tactic to try and catch Kenji off guard.

Unfortunately for his various would-be assassins, he was never not on his guard. His eyes burned into the figure before him, awaiting her explanation. He'd much rather not have to cut her to pieces if he could avoid it. Only if he could avoid it.

Why was she following him? Why do people always start out with a question? Why not a hello, hey, how ya’ doing? It was a little sad that someone apart of society was always quick to jump the gun and point a sword at someone that just walking down the same street as him. It was a little off-putting, but she figured it was a good question. He seemed a little jumpy and she wondered if perhaps he thought maybe she was an associate of the man that had been chopped. Of course that just wasn’t the case, but it appeared he wasn’t a mind reader. Finally deciding it wasn’t wise to keep a man holding a sword waiting, Mataiya parted her ruby red lips and smirked briefly.

“I’m not following you. I’m simply walking down the same street as you and hiding behind buildings for the fun of it. Maybe you shouldn’t be so paranoid, sir. Though, that is a nice sword you have there.” Technically part of what she said was the truth… to a certain degree.

Stepping to the side a little so that she was more in the shadows, Mataiya pulled the hood forward more to make sure not an inch of her face could be seen, except maybe the bright color on her lips. She really wanted to cross her arms, but didn’t want to make it hard to get to her weapons. Though, technically she didn’t need to use anything, but it was habit and that was something that was very hard to break. As the two stood there, she tried to debate on whether or not to ask about the poor soul, but figured that might get her skewered, so she decided to skip inquiring about him.

“May I go now? Or do you plan on cutting some of my head off like that begging sap back there?” Damn, she just couldn’t stop herself sometimes.

His eyes shot wide open at the mention of Xao and his demise. "I think you're mistaken. I believe you didn't see anything, and for the sake of your safety I think it would be best that you agree."

He didn't know who this woman was or what she was doing here. She could have been a cop for all he knew, scouting him out. If he had to kill her, so be it. It was always best to be safe. But that all fell under necessity, and so far he didn't have a need to kill her. A want, possibly, but nothing was absolutely necessary yet.

"To answer your question: no, you may not go now. Not until you tell me who you are and what it is exactly that you are doing!" His eyes narrowed, his optic implant scanning her thoroughly. She had her face hidden, so he couldn't perform a retinal scan or otherwise, but he found no other indication pointing to her identity.

His nerves were being tried, which was never a good thing.

Mataiya arched a brow at his comment. Was he serious? She didn’t see anything? Right… She was completely certain that some poor guy had been begging for his life for something that didn’t really concern her and the individual in front of her had been the one to end his life despite the presence of guns. No, she knew exactly what she saw.

Nope, not mistaken… What a crack head…

Maybe he had taken some drugs earlier and was tripping out. What if he thought he was just doing a painting and really no clue that he had killed a man? Musing on that for a while, she decided that was stupid and that he really did kill the poor bastard, but was trying to cover it up. Not only that, he was passive aggressively threatening her, which was never a good thing to do to such a volatile woman. Her bottom lip made its way between the two rows of her perfectly white teeth, though that motion just like her brow arching probably couldn’t be seen thanks to the shadow of her hood. She did note his look however and thought about pressing it, but opted to do nothing at the moment.

“You seem awfully paranoid for not having done anything villainous such as killing a man in the middle of the Eastern Street. I’m someone who doesn’t like answering arbitrary questions without some form of compensation. The only thing I’m divulging so far is that I’m looking for a group that is thought to be only a myth. The Kuro Ude to be exact.” She remained eerily calm, her voice just loud enough for him to hear what she had to say.

Her demeanor looked as if she were ready to go on the offensive, and Kenji thought he was going to be put in a position to deal with her posthaste. However, her mention of the clan perked his ears quite a bit. 'What the hell could she possibly want with the Kuro Ude?' he thought. His gaze narrowed, staring her down.

"You a cop?" he asked plainly. He could never be too sure. After all, it would make sense: the trailing, the questioning, the persistence. The only thing she was missing was the obviously forced inconspicuousness. Otherwise, she had all the makings of an officer of the law. Kenji held his grip on his mana-powered blade, but the answer was already quite apparent.

He smirked. "No, you're no cop. You and about twenty of your buddies would have come down on me by now if you were, if you did see what you say you saw." With that, he sheathed his blade, taking another cigarette to hi lips and lighting it up, taking a heavy first drag from the cancerous paper stick. He exhaled, the smoke billowing into the rainy air and dying in the night.

"So then, what's your interest in the Kuro Ude?"

A cop? Did she really look like a stupid cop? Did cops on this world dress in this manner? Mataiya arched her brow once again, trying to figure this guy out. Nothing the guy was saying was making a bit of sense, but she was getting used to that by now. He answered his own question before she had a chance to say a word, his response only causing her to shrug her shoulders. She made no other movement, not even when he sheathed his weapon because she was never really nervous in the first place. This wasn’t her first rodeo and it probably wouldn’t be her last. He seemed to be quite fond of his cigarettes and that was the only thing she was completely sure of at that moment.

“Of course I’m not a cop. Good lord, what kind of cop would … actually, an undercover cop would…” Shaking her head, she released a very deep sigh and thought about how to explain what her interest in the Kuro Ude was and why she should even tell him.

“I’m not sure I should tell you that. How do I know you even know who they are? I’m looking to hook up with them. Let’s just say… I have abilities that would fit in fantastically with them.”

Kenji had to suppress a laugh. This girl had no idea who he was; standing before her was the strongest gateway she had to meeting the Kuro Ude. Short of meeting the Madame herself, anyway. With another drag on his cigarette, Kenji blew the smoke into the rain. He turned to face the girl again.

"And what... 'abilities' would you happen to possess?" he asked. Given her heat signatures, he could only only assume she was some sort of metahuman or something similar. Maybe even a humanoid alien of some sort. The specifics of her biology didn't matter, however. At question was her authenticity, and --if she did happen to find herself inducted into the Kuro Ude-- her loyalty. Kenji stood back a bit, getting a scope of her.

"You don't look like much to me," he said with a smirk.

The rain was beginning to aggravate her more than she wanted to let on. If he knew nothing about the Kuro Ude, then she was wasting her time and was only gaining the potential of getting pneumonia. However, if he did know them, which she was sure he did after seeing what he did in the street, then getting sick would totally be worth it. Tilting her head towards his question, she still wasn’t sure what all to reveal to him. Sighing, she decided to trust the yutz and give him just a little.

“Well, I’m not just some normal human. I have a love for fire and well… I can pretty much manipulate anything that has to do with fire.” Yeah, she loved fire, a lot.

She remained in the shadows, her appearance still almost completely hidden. The hood was still up for a couple of reasons; to keep her head dry and to hide her appearance and if he wanted it down, they were going to have to go inside. Shifting from one foot to the other, she crossed her arms against her chest and waited for him to either tell her he knew the Kuro Ude’s location or to tell her he had no idea where they were at and that he was only messing with her. If it was the latter, she was going to torch him, rain or not.

“So, you know where I can locate them?”

He scoffed. "That's privileged information I'm afraid. Can't go dolling it out to any street rat who wants an in," he said plainly, "I don't even know what you look like, much less what your name is." He dropped his now expended cigarette, crushing it beneath his shoe, twisting his foot to grind the cherry on the soaking sidewalk. Sizing the girl up, Kenji crossed his arms.

"You want in with the Kuro Ude, you'll need to prove yourself. And right now, you look like just another petitioner." He wasn't smiling anymore. His voice was smooth, full of attitude and of his intent. This girl was rather insistent in finding her way to the clan, but Kenji wasn't one to just take any old Miss Jane he met on a rainy sidewalk and introduce her to the Madame. No, she'd definitely need to prove her worth. At the moment, however she wasn't doing so much of that.

"Prove to me you got what it takes to be in, and I'll consider it," he said. "Now if there's nothing else, I'd like to get home and go to sleep, if that does alright by you." Whether she was okay with it or not really was of no consequence. He was tired, and wanted to get out of the goddamned rain. Umbrella or no, standing out in the middle of this wasn't his idea of a good time.

He turned to walk away...

Street rat? Well, she supposed with the rain, she might not look the best, but a rat? Hardly. Not moving an inch, she didn’t even make any facial movements to indicate she cared what he said, which she really didn’t. She had been called worse in the past and would probably be called worse in the future. Keeping her arms crossed, she shrugged again and wondered just how she was supposed to prove herself to this man. Logic quickly dictated that he definitely knew where they were at and was probably some guy in a high position for them. Sighing, she realized she was wasting her time because he didn’t seem like he was going to do much of anything let alone let her prove her way.

“And how am I supposed to prove myself to you if you’re going to sleep?” Her voice was still just as calm and quiet as it had been, though there might have been a slight irritation underlying the tone.

The heat in her body intensified slightly and she was glad when the heat took off the chill of the rain. She really needed to invest in an umbrella if this was going to happen more than once. Water generally made it more difficult to mess with fire, but if he wanted her to prove herself to him, then by god, she was going to do it before he left her and she never found him again. Taking in a deep breath, she held her hand out in front of her, her skin beginning to glow bright red. It took a great deal of concentration, more so than any other time, but it was definitely doable. After a while, the luminosity of her skin seemed to intensify three-fold until the light was floating above her flesh in the form of a fire. The flames flickered back and forth thanks to the rain, but they were very much real. Tossing the fire over to a trashcan she watched it become a blazing object in the matter of seconds.

“And that’s just me doing it while it’s raining. Imagine what I can do when it’s dry.”

Kenji watched as the girl paraded her abilities. She was struggling to generate a flame, but she accomplished her task, igniting a nearby trashcan. Kenji yawned, a display of boredom to be sure. "Pyrokinetics. I've seen it before. I could go to a back alley chop shop and get the same..." he trailed off. He turned to face the girl once again. As uncharacteristic as it was of him, Kenji admired this girl's tenacity and persistence.

"I'll tell you what," he began, "Show up at the Sakura Garden teahouse tomorrow, no later than 12:00 P.M., and I'll see what can be done. You know of the Kuro Ude, and you're obviously intent on learning of our 'little' family. We'll see if you have what it takes." with that, he turned to leave once more. However, he stopped in his tracks, turning his head back to the girl.

"By the way: if you try anything... fancy, we'll have your head on a platter. Is that understood?" he asked with finality.
