Description

ImageName: Matthew Harris
Age: 27
Race: Aschen (Human)
Ethnicity: Caprican
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 164 lbs
Place of Birth: Caprica City, Langara
Place of Residence: Caprica City, Langara
Religion: Atheist

Personality: Strong-willed and strong-hearted, Matt is a down to earth (or should that be down to caprica?) guy whose philosophy in life is to do right by other people who need it. If someone needs help he's more likely to ask "what can I do?" than "why should I do anything?". Not quite as naive as he might sound, Matt is more than aware that there are people who would take advantage of a kind heart and he tries to make sure he knows what he's getting into before he does it. Despite this positive attitude towards helping those in need, Matt isn't incredibly cheerful or bright or happy - he's burned out on life so far and looking for something to change that.

Bio: Matt was born into an average low-means Aschen family, with two younger sisters, skirting just above the poverty line. He got through school with slightly above average grades but nothing particularly outstanding, and the best job that he could secure as far as money went was to go into the military. Whilst Matt and his family didn't really support the often warlike nature of their nation, money was money, and their objections weren't severe enough to avoid it entirely.

During training, Matt met another young man in a similar position to him named Daniel White. Daniel had joined the military in order to help his single mother support his younger brother, as she couldn't work due to having to look after him. His father had left her without a word only months prior whilst being their only source of income.

The two bonded and became fast friends during training, and were stationed together in a base on one of the outer worlds for the first five years of their service. Their friendship quickly developed into a romance, and in the manner of many young couples they decided to get married in their fourth year. It was a small ceremony with just close friends and family involved, but special nonetheless.

Just as their terms were coming to an end, however, the Aschen occupied Terra. The Aschen-UCON conflict began and their contracts were involuntarily renewed. The two were stationed on different ships during the war, but they kept in touch through video calls and planned what they'd do after the end of the war together.

That was until Daniel's ship was destroyed in a fleet engagement. There were no survivors.

Devastated, Matt served the last year of the conflict as a shell of his former self, heartbroken and miserable. When the conflict ended and the Aschen were victorious he felt no joy for it. He left the military as soon as his term was over and returned to Caprica city. His family consoled him, and he offered his own comfort to Daniel's mother and brother, but even a year and a half after his husband's passing, he is still not the man he used to be.

He secured himself a maintenance job in a Tech Con facility in Caprica City, and works through the days in quiet solitude. He has a friendly relationship with other workers and attends social gatherings, but there's no denying that he feels the absence of his husband like a constant weight on his shoulders - the absence of all the plans they made, the places they were going to visit, the children they were going to adopt. It's long past time to move on, but he can't bring himself to. Not yet, anyway. Soon, but not yet. Never yet.

Skills and Talents:
  • Physically fit and strong.
  • Good with small, fiddly work.
  • Passable mechanic.
  • Trained in combat, both in firearms and hand-to-hand.

Equipment/Belongings:
  • Average car
  • Plasma pistol (carried)
  • Plasma Rifle (kept at home)
  • Wallet containing several precious photos.

So begins...

Matt wasn't sure why he was here, honestly. Sat at the bar after his colleagues had unsuccessfully attempted to persuade him to come to the dance floor with them, the brown-and-red haired ex-soldier was nursing a glass of whiskey without enthusiasm.

Nightclubs weren't really his thing. He'd been to them here and there, but nowadays he wasn't really a fan of the too-loud music and the flashing lights. Grief, he sounded like an old man thinking that. He really did need to lighten up.

He cast his eyes around the room with mild interest, picking out faces here and there - some he knew, some were just familiar in a vague way that he couldn't place. Probably well-known figures that he just hadn't been keeping up with enough to recognise. His eyes lingered on Sheila as she entered, recognising her as a prominent Admiral.

He kept his head down. Last thing he needed was to be talking about anything military.

Well, that hadn't gone well. Damn. Now she was going to ask questions. Matt looked up from his drink to politely return Sheila's smile, "My name's Matt, Admiral. That'll have been me. I served on the Clarity until the war ended, but I'm no longer military." he said, resisting the urge to salute formally considering the informal occasion.

"You could say that," he went on with a dry chuckle, "But I'm here mostly because I was dragged," Matt gestured to a group of men and women out on the dance floor, "Workmates, they insisted I join them. I haven't been to a club in years, though. It's not really my type of thing if I'm honest. What about you, if you don't mind me asking?"

Matt shrugged, "I suppose you could," he said, slightly raising an eyebrow. "But don't feel obliged. I'm not too down, just a little out of place."

He finished off the dregs of his whiskey, setting it down with a sigh. "I can owe you for later? It's been a while, like I said. I'm a bit rusty on the etiquette."

There was a clearly evident flash of pain in Matt's expression as he averted his eyes, looking back down at the remnants of his drink. "I had a lot of plans," he said after an uncomfortably long pause, "But they died with the Rapturous Arc. My husband was serving on board."

It hurt to talk about even this far gone. He grit his teeth and shook his head, "But maybe sometime in the future. I don't know. I don't have a lot of idea where I'm headed right now, I'm just focusing on getting the present sorted out."

"Thanks," Matt said, smiling faintly. It wasn't worth it to point out his leanings towards lack of belief, the sentiment behind the gesture was the same, even if the suggestion that there could possibly be any good reason for Daniel's death in some divine plan irritated him. "I like to think he is." he said, "He deserved it. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, too. From what Daniel said of her, she sounded like a good woman."

He sighed, "It's hard to plan for the future after so long spent planning how we'd live our lives once we got out of the military. Every time I try to, it just reminds me of those plans. But dwelling on the past serves no good purpose. He'd hate for me to be in such a sorry state over it, after all. I'm doing my best to move on."

It had been a touch-and-go experience crossing the city to get to Cynthia's home. The riots that had started to fill the streets had made taking the car a non-option, and Matt wasn't sure that it would still be there when he got back, but he was more than aware that she was alone in her house, and being alone at all right now (much less associated with any form of authority) was not a good idea. He'd have to take his chances with the car. It was old and tired, anyway.

He'd managed to avoid getting into any trouble by keeping to the background and avoiding the bigger crowds in the central areas. When he reached Cynthia's house, he was a little worn out, but otherwise unharmed. Matt brought his hand up and pressed the door-bell, glancing over his shoulder at the quiet neighbourhood. He wondered how long it would stay quiet, or if the riots would stay confined to the main city indefinitely.

Cynthia was at the dining room table when she heard the doorbell. Abandoning her plate of food, she picked up her disruptor pistol from the table and got to her feet. Checking that the safety was off, she sidled up next to the door. Edging the curtain back from the window she glanced out before visibly relaxing. Turning the safety back on, she unlocked the door and opened it. Stepping aside she waved him in while glancing out the door to make sure no one else was out on the street. So far the main rioting hadn't reached the suburbs, but there was no telling for how long that would last.

"Damn it Matt, please tell me you didn't walk here through the city," she said as she closed the door behind him and locked it.

"As opposed to?" Matt raised an eyebrow.

"Staying inside and off the streets maybe?" she asked. "What the hell are you doing here."

"Making sure you're alright, Cynthia. I didn't like to think of you being alone right now, police officer or not."

Cynthia moved back off into the kitchen and set her gun back down on the table. "I feel like I should be out there doing something," she remarked. "The whole city is going to hell though."

Matt shook his head, "You can't do anything alone, and if I'm right, you've not heard anything from the rest of the force? No orders, nothing? I don't know what else could explain the total absence of the usual force this sort of rioting would meet."

Cynthia shook her head. "Nothing," she replied as she sat back down at the table to finish her meal. "There's not much left, but if you're here you might as well help yourself to whatever is there."

A large ship would make it's slow approach on the planet of Langara, the ship was almost a thousand meters long, about five hundred meters wide. The ship radiated different energy, possibly using more than one way of powering itself and it's shields. The shields could absorb amounts of damage that would seem impossible, even with the technology available to the universe.

The ship began to speed up towards the planet, reaching a speed most large ships should be unable to reach. It was unclear to those watching or attempting to intercept ship where the unusually fast spacecraft was going at first.

That was until it reached the skies over Caprica City. Rioting and unrest from the city below was eclipsed by this new ship. Some would probably wonder who had arrived. New Aschen ships? Special forces maybe? Hadante?

It was something new. Something dangerous. Those who could tell that this wasn't aid were already fleeing or awaiting a fight with invaders or police attempting to stop them.

Whoever or whatever was inside the ship didn't seem intent on doing anything. One could wonder if the ship's arrival was just a ploy, keeping people distracted from something bigger.

Aschen Core Command
Queenstown, Picon

Caprica City;

The rioting continued, and it seemed Defenses were largely unresponsive to the single kilometer long ship. It wasn't until the Aschen High Command finally oriented itself following the surrender to the Coalition that something started to be done. At first the Aschen fleet would have new orders disseminated to it. A Series of bitstream signals broadcast from the Aschen fleet headquarters in Queenstown, Picon.

Queenstown, Picon;

Admiral Inviere had returned from her duties in the Aurora, instructing her fleet to remain so she could return to Aschen space and assume command.

Watching the screens from the main command center, she began to bark orders to various personnel, not before warning screens began to light up across the command room as the Admiral lowered herself into the fortified Bunker.

"Admiral, Unidentified Craft, unknown IFF, they're not UCON or Taiyou." A Lieutenant reported as the Craft moved over Caprica City. "It's positioned itself above Caprica City, intentions are unknown at this time." She said, the Admiral nodding.

"Send hostile challenge and ID." She said, leaning back in her chair. Radio towers in the city broadcasting a single transmission to the unknown alien ship.

"Attention unknown vessel, this is the Aschen Core Command. You are ordered to identify yourself and state your intention immediately, or defenses will be readied against you." She hailed firmly, turning to several other screens.

"This is Admiral Harkin of the Fleet of Rigorous Prayer, we're weapons hot and moving on an Intercept course." Inviere nodded. "Recieved, Admiral. Use caution when engaging the enemy ship, try to avoid Civilian collateral and damage to incoming CPF Assets." She said calmly, bringing up several command codes.

"Admiral." Another Lieutenant reported. "Van Graff Missile base is reporting hot and in the silos, they're ready to launch on your command."

Inviere nodded. "Affirmative." She then brought up the radio. "Commander Milos, hold fire until I give the command. Home fleet is on an intercept course." She radioed.

Milos reported on the phone. "Affirmative, Holding fire." He reported, and then Inviere leaned back, picking up the phone to the Ministry of Defense

"Chaska.." Helene answered.

"Minister Chaska... you're aware we're potentially under attack on top of this rioting?" Inviere said, her tone accusing as she watched the consoles.

Chaska nodded on the phone and replied. "I'm well aware of the situation, I've brought our defenses on high alert, Forces groundside are prepared for a protracted defense."

Inviere nodded. "Very well, I'll route portions of my fleet for an Orbital defense." She reported, then she lowered the phone.

"Lieutenant Mason, Get me SatCom." Inviere demanded, and another wireless phone was handed off to her.

"Commander Harris, I need you to adjust your ODP's axis, two one four carom one one nine, Target that unknown ship, partial power." Inviere ordered, the Commander promptly receiving the order.

"Relay commands to the Ion Cannon defense grid, I want everything we have on that ship." Inviere ordered, surely nothing could withstand the combined firepower of the Aschen's defenses, but with the ship so close to the city, Inviere's options were limited.

"Get the CPF on the line, tell them to quell that looting and to prepare for Evacuations. Caprica City's about to turn into a warzone."

While the two were in the house, there would be a loud knock at the door, and then a second knock as the chaos unfolded outside the house in the city. James McKenna silently waited for an answer, as a band of looters moved past the building and down the street, as if they were running from something.

Cynthia frowned as she rose back to her feet, retrieving her disruptor pistol from the table once again. A quick check at the window reassured her as to who was outside and she unlocked the door and opened it.

Hanging back in the corridor behind Cynthia, Matt glanced past her to see who was outside. He didn't recognise the man, but assumed that Cynthia knew him.

Once the door to the House opened up, McKenna flashed his badge. "I'm with the CPF." Of course one could easily recognize the former CCPD Homicide detective. "We need to head to the Police Station and suit up, CPF is moving in on the rioting, and the Military is addressing the ship that is floating above our city."

"It's about time some sort of order came forward out of this mess," Cynthia replied before glancing to Matt. "I know how you feel bout the military, but I'm sure everyone is wanting for capable hands right now. I trust you haven't forgotten how to hold a gun, eh?" Cynthia asked.

Matt sighed, "Trying to stop this city burning itself to the ground is something I think everyone has to agree with." he said, "I'll help however I can." He might hold no particular love for the military's causes in general, but he wasn't so stubborn as to refuse to work with them out of principle. He gave his sister a hard glance, "But hopefully the plan isn't to shoot at people until they shut up."

"Damn it, I want these people off the streets," a woman's voice barked out over the din and commotion of the rioting mobs in the distance that still dotted the burning city.

The woman's uniform marked her as an Aschen marine, the staple of the Aschen ground forces, and while Shannon Bennet wasn't a particularly imposing woman on a physical level, nor an overly seasoned officer, what she lacked in size and years she made up for in the authoritative tone of her voice. She had a commanding air about her that when she spoke, it was plain to see that she expected to be listened to. While the Aschen High Space Command was mobilizing to address the threat of the unknown ship that had appeared within the planetary atmosphere, the marines were mobilizing to prepare in quelling ground disturbances.

"Give me that," she instructed as she took a comm device from one of her men. Flipping it on, her voice echoed up and down the neighboring streets as her voice was broadcasted through emergency channels.

"Attention citizens of Caprica City," she began. "This is Master Sergeant Shannon Bennet. You are instructed to clear the streets and to take shelter within the available bunkers. Standby for evacuation information. I repeat, you are instructed to clear the streets and to take shelter within the available bunkers. This is a harrowing time for the Aschen Empire, but you have not been abandoned. May his merciful shadow fall upon you."

Flipping the comm device off she scowled. The military, the CPF and the local law enforcement were mobilizing to try and restore order to the city, but the rioting continued unabated. With foreign ships present in Aschen space, it was looking more and more likely that the city would soon become a war zone.

"Get as many men as you can spare to assist the CPF and local law enforcement in getting these streets cleared," she told the man as she returned the comm device. "If this city is about to turn into a war zone, we don't want civilians running amok in the line of fire. Get them to shelter."

At the police station the rioting had finally managed to die down. Reverences dotted the skyline while deploying. McKenna brought his gaze to Ross before he shoved a Disruptor rifle at her. "They've got spice gas deployed in the streets, so you'll need to find a gas mask and some goggles." He said, racking the weapon and checking the microfusion cell.

"We're grouping with the Batallion on Atlas street, going to clear the way to Graystone Industries so we can link up with his U-87s."

Ross too checked the readiness of the Disruptor rifle, largely out of habit before slinging it over her shoulder. She didn't have far to go to locate a mask as a passing officer shoved one into her hands before he moved along to pass them out to other officers that were gathering within the station.

"Ready when you are," she told McKenna.

As local law enforcement goes she hadn't the military experience of her brother, Matt, nor more than a few years on the force, but she had joined the Caprica City Police Department to protect people. Right now if protecting people meant working with the CPF and the military, she was more than ready and willing to provide her services to bringing order and safety back to the city of Caprica.

The ship remained still, it seemed to be waiting for something or the people inside were preparing something. As the Aschen attempted to make contact with the ship, the ship began to ascend slowly. One would probably assume it was getting ready to leave due to being contacted, but the ship stopped moving after a few seconds.

A hatch on the bottom of the ship opened up. But, the ship did nothing else. The open hatch led to darkness from below, the only thing seen inside were several mechanical arms seeming to grab and move things. Maybe it was a cargo ship, the ship didn't seem to have any immediately noticeable weapons on it.

That was until the mechanical arms began to lower from the hatch, they held a large egg-shaped object.

Soon the object began to drop from the mechanical arms, falling to the ground below. Upon contact with the surface it would explode, the effects of the explosion seemed to be devastating to a good portion of the city directly.

The shockwave from the explosion possibly flipping vehicles, compromising the foundations of buildings, sending people flying or bursting eardrums.

The Military response was swift once the initial explosion rocked the city. In the blink of an eye, hundreds of thousands of lives were suddenly extinguished. The City was suddenly rocked to it's foundation as the explosion blasted out buildings and flattened skyscrapers near the epicenter.

McKenna and the others near the Police station would be privy to the explosion. The dull thundering in the distance before the CPF Officer screamed. "Get down!" Before he grabbed the group and threw them to the floor as the shock-wave blew through windows and threw debris and papers all through the Police station.

It wasn't long before a second crack echoed through the city. But this one was different. In an automatic response, Van Graff Missile Base had responded to the sudden attack, diverting it's Anti-Orbital Magnetic Acceleration Cannon perched on a mountaintop it had locked onto the strange ship and it had opened fire, hurling a single high-caliber slug of ferric-tungsten towards the vessel. The speed was astonishing, and approaching light speeds, the projectile left a contrail of superheated plasma in it's wake, cutting slap through most shields and armor, and reducing the ship to slag in mere seconds.

The Sheer Kinetic energy of the projectile would enable it not only to cripple the ship, but punch a hole clean through the center. Afterall stopping a projectile with this much kinetic energy required near infinite energy and the thermodynamic energy released would vaporize the ship, and half the planet.

The Military of course watched and waited to see if the dust cleared and they would need to fire another shot.

Inviere watched the interference on the DRADIS, before she opened a Channel to Admiral Harkin. "Maintain approach, hopefully this did the trick."

Shortly after the initial blast, fires began to dot the city, and the wail of sirens echoed in the distance as First Responders mobilized to mitigate the damage.

Shortly after the attack, Televisions across the Aschen Empire were tuned into the Minister of Defense, Helene Chaska as she delivered her address to the Quorum, and the Aschen People;

Good evening.

Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very society came under attack in a deliberate and deadly terrorist act.

The victims were in the streets, or in their offices -- secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers. Moms and dads. Friends and neighbors.

Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of alien starships dropping bombs, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger.

These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of This Empire. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of Aschen resolve.

The United Aschen Empire was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for order, prosperity and opportunity in the galaxy. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of the Empire, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

Immediately following the attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in Caprica City and Delphi, to help with local rescue efforts.

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the galaxy from further attacks.

The functions of our government continue without interruption. Imperial agencies in Caprica which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight and will be open for business tomorrow.

Our financial institutions remain strong, and the Aschen economy will be open for business as well.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources for our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Quorum who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the Aschen people, I thank the many galactic leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

The Aschen Empire and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the galaxy and we stand together to win the war against terrorism.

Tonight I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us spoken through the ages in Zeus; 21:3: "Even though I walk through the valley of the impending doom, verily, i shall fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Aschen from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. The Aschen have stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time.

None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night and may his Merciful shadow, fall upon you.

Nothing looked good in the skies. A large, unfamiliar vessel loomed at large, casting a bleak shadow over everything. Other ships had begun to occupy the atmosphere, many shuttles were departing, many fires lined the horizon. Roana waited as Kelby cleared her way through the thick line of riot cops surrounding the building. They argued with Kelby at first, but thankfully she had presented her ID before actions were taken. They hadn't cleared Roana. She would need a pass, which was Kelby's top priority. The main atrium was crowded, but there was an easy path to the door. Eyebrows were raised, a co-worker waved, many were suprised she had made it at all it seemed. With a set jaw, she all but slammed her I.D. on the receptionist's desk.

"Need a guest pass."
The receptionist didn't look pleased at her phone conversation being interrupted. Her eyelids closed and wrinkled in an exagerated fashion as she reached slowly for the guest ID card. Sliding it across the counter, the woman tapped it twice before returning full attention to the phone call. It was her sister, by the sound of it. Kelby didn't care: she had to get back to Roana.

Outside, Roana waited impatiently in the crowd. They were mulling about, chanting of riots, while she stood in the mix of people between those spitting in the face of the assembled police. She was one of the people ready to fade through their ranks if the rioters did strike: ready to be protected. Her phone made a noise, indicating she had a message. That's right!

Roana fumbled her phone from her purse, slinging it back over her shoulder and tapping through the lock screens.

_Where r u

Braxton. Her heart skipped a beat, grasping the device in both hands and sweeping in a reply.

Graystone Indst. u safe? _

There she waited, staring at the phone, while inside Kelby fought through a crowd that had thickened while the receptionist recieved her. Where had this crowd come from? With a frustrated sigh she pulled out her research badge and began elbowing through. Had to get Roana, who outside was fully attended by her phone. Braxton had replied quickly; a good sign if there ever was one.

_4now. U?

Roana hammered in a reply, looking up as there was a noise. A strange noise. She nearly dropped her phone, but instead typed something else in and hit send. She then shoved the phone back into her bag. All around her, everyone else had taken to staring at the sky. Out of the large unfamiliar vessel descended arms. At least, they would be arms if they had been human. Fear and disgust crossed her face, the crowds began to grow silent. In the strange mechanical arms was an egg. It could be nothing good, for it was nothing familiar. Inside, many hiders by the window had gone silent at a child's shouts to "LOOK!" Kelby had made it to the door, and was negociating passage when they turned to observe the arms, the egg. Kelby screamed in horror.

The silent crowd raged at once, surging towards the Graystone Industries main building. Roana was caught in the shuffle, her bag at some point becoming detached from her. A heavily armed officer, possibly an army guy, grabbed her and flung to the ground with Roana. She had been far too busy watching, forever imprinting into her mind, what it looked like when a bomb was dropped.

The claw had let go.

Inside, everyone spilled into back rooms, downstairs, anywhere but where they were. Kelby managed to wrestle through two doors and find a spot in a toilet stall. The bomb was dropped and, for both girls, all turned to darkness.

Down the hall, as Kelby drifted to consciousness, there was activity. Why was she asleep, and why was she wet? It was cold and echoey where ever she was, and it was awfully dark...and her foot was asleep. In a...toilet? Yes, in a toilet. Her location had been identified, when she noticed she was surrounded in rubble. Bricks of some sort, and plaster possibly?

It all rushed back to her as someone sobbing not ten feet away was heard. They choked on their moans, babbling nonsense and shuffling around. The sobs turned to shrieks, shrieks with words and a name. Accusing shrieks that somehow sounded farther than she knew they were. Kelby cringed, as memories took place of irritation and wet shoes. There had been something large, they had all be staring outside at...

Roana.

Kelby scrambled, climbing under the fallen bathroom stall wall and over rubble from the collapsed corner of the room. Apparently she had chosen her safety place wisely. Rushing water began to mix with the sobs, as she realized her shoes were more than just wet. Her shoes were soaked. Had a sink...exploded? The cries morphed into wails. Kelby felt her way around the wall to the door, as the sounds of someone losing their sanity with their dead friend in their arms droned on. In the hall, low lights had activated along the floor in beans. People rushed by, but they still sounded far away. Had her hearing gone? She was slightly dizzy... It was dusty here...Not a good sign. Kelby pulled her shirt over her mouth. Mournfully, she thought of her friend.

Roana.

As she came to the main atrium lobby of the building, the breath left Kelby completely. Dust caked everything, and the air. Glass was shattered, people were strewn about. Corpses. She pulled her shirt over her mouth again. A broadcast could just be heard, she wobbled forth and angled an ear, as other survivors straggled to life. Kelby reached a grave conclusion, a single tear pushed a shining trail down her cheek. Through the dust, in silence, she grieved her loss.

Roana...was surely dead out there.

The ship was split by the shots that came towards, each one tearing part of the sip rather easily. This showed that the ship may have been made from an extremely weak metal or alloy. It was clear to the more seasoned soldiers and intelligence agents that the ship wasn't part of an invasion. It was the suicide bomber. The distraction.

One had to wonder what they were being distracted from. A group of enemy soldiers finding another way? Domestic terrorism looking to cease the opportunity presented by the rioting? It would be nothing but speculation for now.

The alien ship remained in the air for as long as it could, chunks of debris falling to the city below. Eventually the ship began to descend, it lost any power it had remaining and was on a crash course with Caprica. Debris continued to fall, the ship's bridge and most of it's front half descending towards the outer regions of the city.

Upon contact with the city buildings, people, vehicles, wildlife were all mowed down by the ship,.Pieces of metal tearing apart from the spacecraft, littering much of the area with debris. It was safe to say that the rioters were being given a chance to prolong their dissent.

The military, CPF and local law enforcement were going to have a lot to deal with.

High above Langara, and Caprica City, thousands of small satellites began to come online, somewhere between low orbit, and the thermosphere, a Hard Light Shield began to form electro-quantum mechanics similar to a Watchtower's Aegis field. A Top secret Aschen project dubbed 'Lunatea's Veil' Which was incorporated into Langara's defenses sometime following the Galactic War.

Shimmering like sunlight on water across Langara's sky, the barrier began to stretch as far as the eye could see.

Feidlimid made a request across the beleaguered engineering through damage control comms, "Damage control, Critical, please assess transit support field systems in sector tau-psi-6. Possible tampering. It is not aligned correctly with neighboring sectors and it would be good not to explode right now."

The temperature was rapidly rising in the primary coolant crucibles for the engine and he had to keep enough head-end for the shockpoint jump to initiate cleanly. The ship was already starting to hum with the load on inertial dampening systems attempting to keep rei from turning the crew into red paste.

As the Cobalt Glaive gained altitude from the spaceport, several ground based emplacements that dotted Caprica City's towering skyscrapers, and the surrounding mountains swiveled to life, they almost immediately began to garner firing solutions, as dozens of heavy anti-orbital gun batteries fired, causing deafening booms to reverberate all throughout the city, as school bus sized ferric-tungsten slugs were hurled up at the ship, calculated for trajectory at near relativistic velocities, igniting the atmosphere into a white hot plasma as they screamed through Langara's atmosphere.

Raid sirens began to blare through Caprica City's streets, as Langara's defense fleet began to move in for a star-side intercept.

Leading the charge was the Reverence II 'Esteem' But there was little they could do on the other side of the Aegis field, so the fleet moved with coordination, and haste only Aschen ships seemed to be able to pull off, they moved into position.
