Matthew Kite

Age: 23
Race: Human
Significant Relations: Felix Lexis, Katy Lockhart, Sonya Ballifrey.

Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 138lbs
Overall Appearance: Matt is a fit young man, athletic and toned, though he is by no means a bodybuilder. He has muscles enough to bulge when he flexes, but not so much that they are prominent otherwise -- no six-packs for Matty. Matt is a fine featured man, with smooth skin and features, and a slightly effeminate look to him, but he is not so androgynous as to be mistaken for the opposite gender. Matt's hair is long, but quite big, also, most of the length taken up before it reaches his shoulders in arcing spikiness. With pretty brown eyes and a soft smile, Matt is quite the looker, and attracts his fair share of the girls. For a time, anyway.

Personality: While often serious and grim, Matt is more than capable of holding a pleasant discussion and cracking a few jokes; his work often gives him cause to be blue, but otherwise he is a friendly and good-humoured guy. A love, rather than a fighter, if he has any option. The times that Matt gets violent are when people start throwing threats around people he cares about, he has a low tolerance for insults, particularly to his family -- he's been known to smack people around the face for a 'your mum' joke in the past, despite the jovial intent.

Skills and Talents:
  • Adept with firearms.
  • A capable hand-to-hand fighter, both with fists and a combat knife.
  • Speedy runner.
  • A well honed sense of justice, hence his career in the police force.

Abilities:
  • Heavy Hitter: Matt has an above par level of strength and endurance, not in the realms of super-strength, but definitely beyond that or a normal human. Capable of 'lifting' a car (i.e., tilting it enough to fit a crawling person beneath) single-handedly, but not of tossing it anywhere, and of delivering really hard punches.

Equipment:
  • Squad car.
  • Handgun/Pistol.
  • Shotgun, usually loaded with bean bag/flexible baton rounds.
  • Taser.
  • Radio communicator.
  • Body armour -- kevlar, etc.

So begins...

The low hum of a car engine was audible from just outside Gambit's Bar, the relative quiet of the late evening broken by its rumble. The offending vehicle pulled slowly to a halt across the street from the bar, a white and blue police car clearly marked with the bold lettering of the WCPD. Its owner, however, was strictly off duty, his uniform left at the station and his radio discarded on the passenger seat beside where he sat, shifting the car into neutral and applying the handbrake with a jerk.

Matthew Kite yawned, reaching for the door handle and clicking the door open, swinging his feet out and breathing in the cold twilight air. When he breathed out, it was with a cloud of smoke, the cigarette held in his free hand glowing dimly as he stepped up and out into the night, casting his eyes to either side down the near-empty street. Closing the door behind him, Matt leant back and stared up at the sky, finishing the last few puffs of his cigarette before making movement toward the door. He had all night, after all.

Matthew Kite glanced up at Alec as the man approached, eyes on him as he spoke into his phone; obviously in some form of argument. Matthew continued to watch him as he snapped his phone shut, more out of curiosity than anything (it was something to look at while he had the smoke), and muttered to himself. Definitely an argument, the other man looked annoyed, certainly. Matt was about to speak up as Alec approached his car, but the man snapped to his senses before colliding.

Matt smiled, lowering the cigarette to his side and blowing out a puff before speaking. "No problem." he replied, "I'm sure the car'd have survived." he noted with a chuckle. "You alright? You seem confused. Looking for somewhere in particular?"

Matthew Kite nodded. "Wing City can be kinda confusing for a while, but you get used to it in time. Anywhere I can help you get? I'm a local, lived here all my life; I know most places." Matt paused to allow Alec to finish, but before he could, the phone went off. Matt raised his eyebrow at the ensuing conversation, and the incredibly loud shouting.

As the yelling continued, and Alec seemed somewhat at a loss, Matt frowned. Turning to lock the car with a beep of the keys, he walked around it to place himself in better conversation distance, leaning on the boot. "I'd just hang up if I were you." he interjected, eyebrow raised. "Sounds like a woman who isn't going anywhere with whatever it is she's saying..."

"Matthew." The policeman nodded at Alec's words, peering over his shoulder at the writing. "Huh, interestingly enough I ain't seeing a street name there. I'm getting the feeling that things aren't going so well for you, Alec, eh?" Matt chuckled, not unkindly, patting the smaller man on the back. "Well look, if this isn't important why don't you let me buy you a drink, give you a rundown of the city, eh? I'm a cop, so you can trust me, got my badge somewhere..." he fumbled about for a few moments, before giving up "Eh, the car's proof enough I think."

Tilting his head slightly, Matt grinned. "How 'bout it? A few pints at the bar, a real man's introduction. Bar's just across the street there." he gestured over to where Gambit's Bar lay on the other side of the road.

Matthew Kite chuckled, turning and making his way over toward the bar door. "I meant that going out for a drink down the pub is a very atypical man-thing to do." he explained. "You never do that with your mates? Ah, you're missing out. I don't come to this place as often as the more reputable bars, but I hear it's great for a thrill."

The policeman chuckled again, though he subtly checked the pistol at his hip to ensure it was secure. He didn't want to alarm his new friend, but 'thrills' weren't all this bar was known for. But he dealt with the bad guys of Wing City on a daily basis, he could keep the new guy safe, he was sure. Approaching the door, Matt pushed it open, and headed inside.

Matthew Kite pushed open the door of the bar mid-sentence, looking over his shoulder at the smaller man following him. "...at do you drink?" he asked Alec, "I'm a spirits man myself, though beer's good too; depends on how drunk I plan on getting." He glanced at his watch, "I'll have to be driving home later though, so I'll just be having the one beer. But what can I get you?"

Matt chuckled. "Feel free to get far drunker than me; I can drop you off wherever it is you're heading if you need me to." The cop approached the counter, and waited for Alec's drinks request.

Matthew Kite grinned, "Not a heavy drinker? No problem. I'll just get you a cider..." Matt lifted his eyes to the bartender, in time to be distracted by Terminus and her screeching. Letting out an "Ergh" of irritation, the man kept half an eye on the creature as he ordered the drinks. Taking the glasses as they were handed over, he indicated a table a good distance away from the thing.

"Best just to ignore things like that, where possible." he noted to Alec, shaking his head. "Most people can handle themselves, she certainly doesn't seem to be worried." The man walked toward the table and sat. "So, Alec, what was that business with the angry chick?" he asked with a grin, leaning on the wall and putting his feet up on the seat, taking a swig of his beer.

Matthew Kite lifted a finger "Ah ah ah! No bribing Officers of the law." he noted with a grin. "I shan't accept your money, so you might as well put that away."

At Alec's words regarding his partner, Matt got the wrong end of the stick entirely. "Oh? How long have you two been together? Sounds like you ought to give him a good talking to, and remind him of why he picked you up in the first place." The man grinned, nudging Alec's arm, "You get what I'm saying? I'll be it's been a while since you two hit the sack, if it's got to the personal secretary level of things. Give him a nudge in the right direction, eh?"

Matthew Kite winced. "Ah, oops. Jumped to conclusions, apologies. I'm normally good at guessing that..." the man shook his head, "Ah, well, that's harder then. In a sense. You have less to draw on to convince him." Shrugging, Matt leant back with his drink. "But it isn't really my place to butt into professional things. Now being blunt and insensitive about personal things, that I can do, but professionally it might get me in trouble!"

Grinning, Matt shook his head. "Well anyway, what is it that brings you to Wing City?"

Matthew Kite lifted an eyebrow. "You've gotta have balance, you know, between your job and your personal life." he shrugged. "You can't let your job take over everything, you've gotta have a little fun too. Maybe this guy's taking it too far, but balance is important, yeah? I'm perfectly dedicated to my own job, but that doesn't mean I can't take time out to hit a club, have a drink, pick up a gal or a guy for a little dalliance maybe," Matt chuckled at this - he didn't really do anything like that very often, but it wasn't unheard of. "I take time out for my guitar too." he added.

Taking a gulp of beer, Matt yawned. "But as I said. All about balance."

"Nah.." Matthew folded his arms, placing the beer down on the table. "You've gotta have some personal things. Friends, family, that sort of thing; even if you don't pick up a love interest social interaction is important for a healthy lifestyle." Nodding, Matt lifted his eyes back to Alec only to lift a brow in amusement.

"Steady there, mate, you might want to slow down with the drink there." He laughed, "You weren't kidding when you said you were a lightweight, eh? Well, implied it, but still! You might've had enough, I think."

Matthew Kite smirked at Alec, "I wouldn't trust me not to let me do anything foolish if I were you," the cop winked, "I might be with the law, but I'm off duty, and I have a sense of humour too! But seriously, nah, I won't let you embarrass yourself too much."

With a yawn, Matt glanced at his watch for a second time. "Hm, getting late. Shouldn't be hanging around here for too long, I think, if you want to get wherever it is you're going in any decent time."

The man paused, leaning forward slightly. "Say, I haven't asked yet - what is it you and your partner do?"

Matthew Kite raised an eyebrow. "You're very drunk." he noted, "And what would I do? Well, if I found out you were doing something against the law, I'd arrest you. That's what the police do, ya know? 'course, I'd be gentle about it, and as nice as possible; but even when I'm not on duty I can't just sit back and watch crime take place."

Well, not unless it was limited to Gambit's Bar. The lawless bar was impossible to police, on or off duty, without an entire unit. Even then casualties were far too high to do much beyond answer on the rare occasion a patron thought to call. "Well, Alec, I have to say you've aroused my suspicions now." Matt frowned lightly, leaning forward to rest his forearms on the table and drum his fingers on the wood.

Matthew Kite stood himself, walking after the drunk Alec with a sigh, shaking his head. "Look, Alec, buddy.." Matt rested a hand on the other's arm to halt him. "I'd love to be able to turn a blind eye, but you're really not making it easy. Plus, we've only just met, so I'm not really that convinced anyway. I'm going to have to ask you to come with me to the station."

The man extracted a pair of handcuffs from his belt, dangling them. "Can I assume you're gonna come quietly? Don't make things worse for yourself, you might still be able to get out of this without too much trouble if you cooperate."

Matthew Kite shook his head, putting one arm around Alec's shoulders with an exaggerated sigh, reaching over to snatch the phone and snap it shut, leaning in close in a comradely manner. "Listen, Alec. You're doing something illegal, plainly, by the way you're avoiding my questions, so... I really have no choice but to take you in."

Matt made to take Alec's wrist in hand and to pull him towards the door. "Come along now, let's get this over with eh? Once we've got this cleared up I might even be able to come through on that drop-off I promised. As long as you aren't doing anything too bad. Oh, and that reminds me.." Matt reached to grab Alec's briefcase and confiscate it.

The cop would have helped the kid, if his writer wasn't too tired for anything complex, don't blame him!

Matthew Kite scoffed, ruffling Alec's hair amusedly. "You're killing me, sweetheart." he teased, rolling his eyes. "You aren't fooling anyone, come on..." Matt hooked one arm around Alec's own tightly and pulled the other toward and out the door, into the night air.

"You just gonna stop there then? Alright then, don't say I didn't warn you..." Matt rolled his eyes, bending down and promptly hefting Alec up bodily into a bridal carry, all semblance of maintaining the other's dignity abandoned for the practicality of just getting him to the damn car in one piece.

Reaching the car, Matt removed one hand temporarily to wrench the back door open, managing to keep Alec aloft despite this in a somewhat impressive display of upper body strength, and lower the man toward it. "Go on, in you go, or do I have to toss you?"

Matthew Kite sighed. "What am I going to have to do to get you to let go, Alec?" he asked, somewhat exasperated. "I'm not going to stand here all night, and I'd really rather I didn't have to shove you in there, you'll only end up getting hurt."

Matthew Kite climbed into the car's front seat with a heavy sigh and an eye roll, turning his keys in the ignition and shutting the door with a clap. He reached over to the radio on the passenger seat, flicking it on.

"This is Officer Kite here, I've got a suspect here arrested on ground of suspicious activity and possible possession of illegal goods, bringing him down to the station for further investigation. Over and out."

Matt dropped the radio back down onto the seat before shoving the car into gear, pulling out and heading down toward the station.

Matthew Kite pulled into the parking area in front of the Wing City Police Station, killing the engine and sliding the handbrake on. Matt stepped out into the cold night air, nodding to another officer just on his way out of the station and walking the few steps to Alec's door.

Opening the door, Matt leaned down to pat the man on the arm. "Oi, Alec, wakey wakey."

"Come on..." Matt shook his head, hauling the other man to his feet and pulling him toward the station; though not with unnecessary roughness. In his other hand, Matt carried the man's briefcase, and he kept a careful grip on both of them as they ascended the steps and through into the reception area, attracting a few interested glances from waiting citizens and breaking officers alike.

Moving through that room and into the main building, Matt led Alec down into a narrow corridor lined with doors, and used his hips to knock the door of a free room open and lead Alec into it, where he indicated a seat at a bare table to sit. "Go on, sit down." he instructed. "Make yourself at home, hopefully this won't take long."
