History

There is no record of Maurauna's age, not even she knows. Her earliest memory is black. A simple dark room where she sat for eternity. Personally, she can not remember a single thing before the room, but just as if it was yesterday, she remembers her exit. She came into a room lit by a single wick. No one was there, save a glass of milk and a floor length mirror hanging against a clay formed wall. She knew her body had no desire for substances such as food, but the liquid called to her. Next thing she saw in the mirror was the change of her eyes. The darkening of skin and thickening of her coat. Her knees cramped, and a violent urge compelled her, twisting and shaping into a powerful creature with yellow eyes, sharp claws, and an ivory mouth full of teeth. Before the effect of the milk wore off, Maurauna had broken through the wall and ran out into the forest caging the busted building. Time was of no essence to her as she ran, for days/months/maybe even years. It wasn't until she came upon a small oasis out in a desert which was later called to be The Bahariya. When she quenched the dryness of her mouth with some of the cool, crystal water that seemed to flow directly from heaven itself, Maurauna collapsed. She found herself upon waking totally naked, and fully aware of the fact.

She arrived at the nearest city wrapped in a tunic made of leaves. She exposed herself to the High Priests for what she was, a shapeshifting beauty, and instead of punishing her, or listing her outcast, they placed her amongst themselves, in honor of the goddess Hathor. There she reigned for decades, never aging, and becoming ever more terrifying with her position for not many of the children that grew to see her immortality appreciated it; rather they envied it. When this eventually rose to the attempt of her life, Maurauna let herself loose with rage again. This time it was a fully cognitive act, she was furious. She grew to appreciate her anger towards humans, and decided to embark on her own quest: To retrieve the eyes taken for an eye.

Through decades of conquer and slaughter, Maurauna managed much the same, until she came across a being that she found to be enticingly interesting. He was a vampire, and his name was Mytri. The fabulous creature fed of the life that pumped through the blood of the very humans who she despised and went around punishing. Instantly, they formed a partnership. Mytri introduced Maurauna into the vampiric underground, where she flourished. She herself was not a member of the dead, nor did she have a beating heart. It made her position very secured. Not many hunted for her kind,or even knew of her existence.

So begins...

Maurana tried to hide her blush. "What is your fee, kind sir?" She was unsure his purpose was, but a portrait drawn by someone she met along the way, would be the perfect way to show completion.

Maurana took one gold band bangled arm and reached inside her cloak. She pulled out three pieces of currency, "Let's just hope you are worthy of a Queen's payment." Maurana clinched her teeth at her too familiar mention of her title. 'You're supposed to be anonymous, not known to mortals as The Queen od Shapeshifters'

Maurana closed the distance between herself and this artist, "I do believe I've been told my left is the best side." She whispered as she tilted her head to the left. "Let me prepare" She disrobed, laying is gently on her lap. Under her cloak, Mauran wore a jet black gown, that sparkled gold. The straps hugged her shoulders. Around her neck was a white gold chain, with a golden claw at the end of it. Her jet black hair was ruffled around her shoulders. Maurana took one hand and ran her fingers through it, bringing it around her left shoulder. Baring after her shoulder was an ivory pearl in her ear. Her green eyes sparkled with the anticipation of being painted. Portraits of oneself was banned in her Egypt. It was known to trap a piece of ones soul within the paper. 'What's done away from home, stays away from home.' Maurana told herself.

Maurana cleared her throat, as she felt a strange sense of power from the man before her. "My name..." She tried to remember the last time she had to recite her name, most people she surrounded herself with already knew her name. "Maurauna." Her last name was insignificant. "What exactly do you mean, weird things" At this point, Maurauna was unable to focus on anything besides this mans' aura. She could feel her claws itching for a stretch.

Maurana furrows her brow, "So you're first time at art is at my expense? You seemed so experienced." Maurauna scolded herself at her lack of judging character.

Maurana fought her natural instinct, hiding her right hand as it exposed itself as a claw. Her natural form was the feline, though her spirit was that of a human. "Do your brush dictates your, er, progress?" Maurauna had little experience with artists that paint. The artists from her land would sculpt. Painting was a tempting new taste for her, one she found exciting as her paw retracted into her their five fingered form.

Maurana gazed at herself. She could understand why her ancestors would suggest that part of ones soul would become captured in the painting. It looked exactly like her, she could almost sense her aura from the eyes looking back at her. "Oh, you're good." She whispered. "Painting is against the law where I'm from. You would become infamous instantly with this kind of work." Maurauna gracefully handled the picture, grazing the mans' fingers with her own as she took it from his grasp.

Maurana 's eyes were as wide as coins, "Satisfied, yes." She skipped a breath as she became confused as to how she would transit the portrait with her being throug her journey. "This will hang in my drawing room on a day shortly to come." She set is softly unto the table before her, as she dawned her golden sewn cloak. "Where do you sire from, Sir Simone?" Curious as to the history of one who could capture her essence so beutifully.

Maurana nodded. "Sir Simone, as you would be addressed if you would ever dawn upon my land." She fidgeted for a moment, "To live a dangerous life is to live a colorful one, as this is my first outting from my homeland. I've many rooms, in my kingdom. My drawing room is that of very tasteful colors. Draperies, flowers, and an easel with many sets of lead. My teachers, however, would never dream of letting me sketch from a model, such as you do..." She noted wit enthusiasm, "It's more of a way to communicate the images held within my mind, so that I would not express my inner thoughts out in such a way unladylike."

Maurana fiddled, "A land hidden deep within the deserts of Egypt. I'm due back any day now, with stories of my travels. Perhaps you would like to join me?" Maurauna hesitated, "My goal was to meet many social participants, building my skills. Though, I must admit, you are my first. Maybe you could come along and impress such a crowd that they would not dare to question the rest of my adventures?" Maurauna continued to fidget with her painintg, and felt the need to explain, "You see, as I am Queen, I am expected to be able to socialize with all the sorts. We have secrets, me and my people. But I am not so trustowrthy of humans that I would go to greet just any or all of them. You, however, have a way of seeing into a persons' soul. You could make such an impression, that my court would perhaps be impressed with you."

Maurana closed her eyes in wonder, "I'm afraid I can only 'teleport', as you say, my own soul into that of another form. Our travels would have to be that of my own personal transit."

Maurana shrugged, "I will abide whatever you feel neccesary to take. Let me just say, we ar venturing into a kingdom. Bring with you the best of your best, I will provide the rest." Maurauna rubbed her brow, "Speaking of, let us rest this night, and venture on in the morrow. Shall we say, shortly after the rise of the sun? I will explain the regulations and systems along the way. I will also provide a person who expertises in the escaping of difficult situations, shall you ever find yourself in a position you wish not to be in. As the Queen of the land your are daring to venture in, I give you my word, we shall travel safely and be greeted with open arms."
