Max Ratsel

KOSA's Paranormal-Human Interfacing Operative and sometimes doubles as the IT guy

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Dovey

Max would be quite dapper and sharp if only his clothes fit right. Instead, he wears pantsuits that are mismatched and often too big for his rather short 5'6'' wiry frame. A magpie when it comes to thrift shopping, his closet is full of clothes of every cut and pattern, and he can be seen walking out the door pairing stripes with paisleys and committing other fashion no-no's. His hair is dark and curly, graying at the temples, and often piled off his forehead in what he says is an "unruly" fashion when in fact it is more accurately described as a cross between the hair of a poodle and an Elvis Presley pompadour. Although Max's brown eyes are dark enough to disguise the runes that circle his irises, in public he frequently wears dark lenses that clip onto his glasses.

Despite his slovenly appearance, Max is a tad vain and egoistic. Although, with his nervous tics, which are somewhat quelled by his chain smoking, he mostly comes off as neurotic. He can be very sharp and sarcastic, tending to meander into long diatribes. His frequent but light flirtations with teammates are indiscriminate.

Standard: (Copied and pasted)
- Badge: For scaring the crap out of the lesser supernatural misfits.
- Rune-inscribed handgun plus ammunition: Ammo is free, but lost or damaged handguns will be deducted from an agent's per diem.
- Rune jars: For capturing ghosts and spirits. These must be turned in after capture, and empty jars will be issued as replacements.
- Rock salt: Ghosts hate it, and lesser undead can be repelled by it. Most agents stick with bullets, but the salt is handy as a backup.
- Poppet: The small primitive doll is supposedly useful for dealing with poltergeists, but none of the agents have figured out how its supposed to work. Some of the goblins make puppets out of them.
- Religious text of agent's preference: Most of the agents are agnostic, so these usually get left in the armory, but they're useful when trying to handle demons.
- Scroll cases: On the off chance that an agent might be capable of using rune magic, prepared rune scrolls need to be stored in a special made case so that the runes do not degrade in the open air, potentially weakening the prepared spells.

- Polaroid camera
- Tape recorder
- Zener cards and assorted dice
- Pocket mirror
- Candles
- Cigarettes

Specialty: Shooting things, acting as supernatural medium, administering tests for paranormal abilities, rolling cigarettes

Fresh out of college and broke, Max agreed to sell his soul for some mind-altering drugs and was possessed by a demon. The details of it all are all very vague because he doesn't like to talk about it, although KOSA has the full write-up in its records.

Sometime between then and age of 30, he was exorcised and then committed himself to a mental institution. There he came to terms with the abilities left by his demonic possession: seeing into the supernatural world, xenoglossy or the ability to somehow pick up a new language, and lighting a cigarette without a flame.

At the asylum he created quite a name and cult status for himself, when, partly out of curiosity and partly to quell his notoriety, KOSA intervened and acquired him into their ranks to use his talents as some kind of field grunt gussied up with the title of "Paranormal-Human Interfacing Operative."

Extra: He doesn't like to talk about his demonic possession.
